Structural Geology and Chronology of Shear Zones along the Shangdan Suture in Qinling Orogenic Belt,China:Implications for Late Mesozoic Intra-Continental Deformation of East Asia

The Shangdan suture zone(SDZ)in the Qinling orogenic belt(QOB)is a key to understanding the East Asia tectonic *** SDZ gives information about convergent processes between the North China Block(NCB)and South China Block(SCB).In the Late Mesozoic,several shear zones evolved along the SDZ boundary that helps us comprehend the collisional deformation between the NCB and SCB,which was neglected in previous *** shear zones play an essential role in the tectonic evolution of the East Asia *** study focuses on the deformation and geochronology of two shear zones distributed along the SDZ,identified in the Shaliangzi and Maanqiao *** shear sense indicators and kinematic vorticity numbers(0.54–0.90)suggest these shear zones have sinistral shear and sub-simple shear deformation *** quartz’s dynamic recrystallization and c-axis fabric analysis in the Maanqiao shear zone(MSZ)revealed that the MSZ experienced deformation under green-schist facies conditions at∼400–500℃.The Shaliangzi shear zone deformed under amphibolite facies at∼500–700℃.The^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar(muscovite-biotite)dating of samples provided a plateau age of 121–123 *** with previously published data,our results concluded that QOB was dominated by compressional tectonics during the Late Early ***,we suggested that the Siberian Block moved back to the south and Lhasa-Qiantang-Indochina Block to the north,which promoted intra-continental compressional tectonics.

Theoretical analysis of ground displacements induced by deep fluid injection based on fully-coupled poroelastic simulation

Observations of surface displacements are expected to aid in geomechanical analyses of injectioninduced ***,the controlling factors of the displacement magnitude remain poorly understood except the elastic modulus of the fluid-bearing ***,an experiment scheme of numerical simulation based on fully-coupled poroelasticity is designed to investigate the displacements induced by deep underground fluid *** to the sealing ability of deep reservoirs,the numerical experiments are classified into two scenarios:injection into open and sealed *** effects from both geological and operational parameters are considered during the experiments,which include the hydromechanical properties,the reservoir geometry,injection rates and *** results reveal that in addition to the reservoir depth and Young’s modulus,the porosity also has significant influences on the surface *** modeling of injection-induced displacements should include the parameter of reservoir *** the reservoir is characterized by a good sealing ability,fluid injection is prone to induce larger horizontal displacements than vertical *** of injection activities including hydraulic fracturing can probably induce detectable surface *** surveying,especially using Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)with both horizontal and vertical observations,should become an essential monitoring task for anthropogenic fluid injection/production activities,which is conducive to assess and mitigate some geohazards including earthquakes.

Analysis of stiffness and flexural strength of a reinforced concrete beam using an invented reinforcement system

In this study,we conducted experimental tests on two specimens of reinforced concrete beams using a three-point bending test to optimize the flexure and stiffness *** first specimen is a reinforced concrete beam with an ordinary reinforcement,and the second specimen has an invented reinforcement system that consists of an ordinary reinforcement in addition to three additional bracings using steel bars and steel *** results of the flexure test were collected and analyzed,and the flexural strength,the rate of damage during bending,and the stiffness were *** element modeling was applied for both specimens using the LS-DYNA program,and the simulation results of the flexure test for the same outputs were *** results of the experimental tests showed that the flexural strength of the invented reinforcement system was significantly enhanced by 15.5%compared to the ordinary ***,the flexural cracks decreased to a significant extent,manifesting extremely small and narrow cracks in the flexure spread along the bottom face of the *** addition,the maximum deflection for the invented reinforced concrete beam decreased to 1/3 compared to that of an ordinary reinforced concrete *** results were verified through numerical simulations,which demonstrated excellent similarities between the flexural failure and the stiffness of the *** invented reinforcement system exhibited a high capability in boosting the flexure design and stiffness.

Variable retention harvesting in Great Lakes mixed-pine forests: emulating a natural model in managed ecosystems

Evaluation of accelerated deterioration in NAPTF flexible test pavements

Previous research studies have successfully demonstrated the use of artificial neural network (ANN) models for predicting critical structural responses and layer moduli of highway flexible pavements. The primary objective of this study was to develop an ANN-based approach for backcalculation of pavement moduli based on heavy weight deflectometer (HWD) test data, especially in the analysis of airport flexible pavements subjected to new generation aircraft (NGA). Two medium-strength sub-grade flexible test sections, at the National Airport Pavement Test Facility (NAPTF), were modeled using a finite element (FE) based pavement analysis program, which can consider the non-linear stress-dependent behavior of pavement geomaterials. A multi-layer, feed-forward network which uses an error-backpropagation algorithm was trained to approximate the HWD back-calculation function using the FE program generated synthetic database. At the NAPTF, test sections were subjected to Boeing 777 (B777) trafficking on one lane and Boeing 747 (B747) trafficking on the other lane using a test machine. To monitor the effect of traffic and climatic variations on pavement structural responses, HWD tests were conducted on the trafficked lanes and on the untrafficked centerline of test sections as trafficking progressed. The trained ANN models were successfully applied on the actual HWD test data acquired at the NAPTF to predict the asphalt concrete moduli and non-linear subgrade moduli of the me-dium-strength subgrade flexible test sections.

Aim:We aimed to further investigate the role of hepcortespenlisimut-L(Hepko-V5 or V5),a new oral immunotherapy developed by us,for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)***:The interim data from ongoing PhaseⅢplacebo-controlled,randomized trial were evaluated on the initial group of patients in advanced stage of HCC with emphasis on liver function and tumor marker alpha-fetoprotein ***,an in vitro study was undertaken to elucidate the mechanism of action of V5 by measuring with flow cytometry the expression of cytokines such as IL-2,INF-γ,and TNF-αand cell activation markers CD69 and Ki67 on CD4-and CD8-positive lymphocytes isolated from peripheral blood of healthy ***:As early as one month after treatment initiation,there was a clear improvement in alanine transaminase,aspartate transaminase,alkaline phosphatase,and bilirubin levels among HCC patients who received daily dose of V5,but not in the placebo ***,alpha-fetoprotein(AFP)levels among V5 recipients decreased,while in the ;placebo group they *** results are in line with in vitro observations indicating immune activation,as evidenced by many-fold enhancement of CD69,Ki67,and INF-γexpression and at the same time marked anti-inflammatory effect resulting in 10-fold decrease in TNF-αoutput and lack of influence on IL-2 ***:Hepcortespenlisimut-L,a tableted oral formulation derived from heat-inactivated pooled blood of patients with HCC and viral hepatitis shows beneficial clinical effect,as demonstrated by improvement in liver function and reduction of tumor marker AFP *** correlate with in vitro observations showing potent activation of the immune response and pronounced oral tolerance effect.
