Diurnal variation of aethalometer correction factors and optical absorption assessment of nucleation events using multi-wavelength photoacoustic spectroscopy

A field measurement campaign was carried out during the late winter and early spring of2015 in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. The size distribution(SD) and optical absorption of carbonaceous particulate matter(CPM) was measured online using a Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer(SMPS), a 7λ-aethalometer and an inhouse developed 4λ-Photoacoustic Spectrometer. Based on the SD data, the measurement period could be classified into days with and without new particle formation events(normal days and nucleation days),although particular nucleation-like events were observed on normal days as well. Three characteristic size modes were observed with CMDs of circa 15, 25 and 110 nm that corresponded to the nucleation, traffic and heating modes. Based on the temporal behavior of these modes both types of days were divided into distinctive daily periods(heating hours,traffic hours and nucleation hours). The optical absorption spectra(OAC and AAE) also displayed the same part of day behavior to that of SD. That way this paper is among the first to assess the optical response of urban nucleation events. Due to the simultaneous measurement of OAC by the 7λ-aethalometer and a 4λ-Photoacoustic Spectrometer, OAC was measured overall at 11 wavelengths. That way aethalometer correction factors(f and C)were determined at all aethalometer wavelengths using in situ reference photoacoustic measurements. Correction factors were found to have both wavelength and time of the day variation. In the case of f, no clear trend could be observed, however, Cref values increased both as a function of wavelength.

The widely used photocatalytic self-cleaning coating materials are often made of polymers and polymer based composites,where the photocatalyst immobilization occurs with ***,these organic polymers are often unstable under exposure to UV irradiation and easily degraded by reactive radicals produced in the photocatalytic *** order to solve this problem,in this paper,we present the facile preparation of a multifunctional coating with dual superhydrophobic and photocatalytic properties,where the fixation and the hydrophobization of the plasmonic Ag-TiO2 photocatalyst particles with visible light activity was performed with non-water soluble sulfur,which is a cheap and easily available *** resulted novel nanocomposite with rough and nano-tructured surface roughness(1.25–2.45 nm determined by small-angle X-ray scattering)has sufficient low surface energy(3.3 mJ/m2)for superhydrophobic(θ=151.1°v)***,in contrast of the organic and expensive fluoropolymer based composites,this non-wetting nature was durable,because the measured was higher than 150°during the long-term LED(λmax=405 nm)light irradiation.

A program CALTPP(CALculation of ThermoPhysical Properties)is developed in order to provide various thermophysical properties such as diffusion coefficient,interfacial energy,thermal conductivity,viscosity and molar volume mainly as function of temperature and *** thermophysical properties are very important inputs for microstructure simulations and mechanical property *** general structure of CALTPP is briefly described,and the CALPHAD-type models for the description of these thermophysical properties are *** CALTPP program contains the input module,calculation and/or optimization modules and output module.A few case studies including(a)the calculation of diffusion coefficient and optimization of atomic mobility,(b)the calculation of solid/liquid,coherent solid/solid and liquid/liquid interfacial energies,(c)the calculation of thermal conductivity,(d)the calculation of viscosity,and(e)the establishment of molar volume database in binary and ternary alloys are demonstrated to show the features of *** is expected that CALTPP will be an effective contribution in both scientific research and education.

AIM To analyze the effect of intralesional steroid injections in addition to endoscopic dilation of benign refractory esophageal *** A comprehensive search was performed in three databases from inception to 10 April 2017 to identify trials, comparing the efficacy of endoscopic dilation to dilation combined with intralesional steroid injections. Following the data extraction, meta-analytical calculations were performed on measures of outcome by the randomeffects method of Der Simonian and Laird. Heterogeneity of the studies was tested by Cochrane's Q and I^2 statistics. Risk of quality and bias was assessed by the Newcastle Ottawa Scale and JADAD assessment *** Eleven articles were identified suitable for analyses, involving 343 patients, 235 cases and 229 controls in total. Four studies used crossover design with 121 subjects enrolled. The periodic dilation index(PDI) was comparable in 4 studies, where the pooled result showed a significant improvement of PDI in the steroid group(MD:-1.12 dilation/month, 95% CI:-1.99 to -0.25 P = 0.012; I^2 = 74.4%). The total number of repeat dilations(TNRD) was comparable in 5 studies and showed a non-significant decrease(MD:-1.17, 95%CI:-0.24-0.05, P = 0.057; I^2 = 0), while the dysphagia score(DS) was comparable in 5 studies and did not improve(SMD: 0.35, 95%CI:-0.38, 1.08, P = 0.351; I^2 = 83.98%) after intralesional steroid *** Intralesional steroid injection increases the time between endoscopic dilations of benign refractory esophageal strictures. However, its potential role needs further research.

A new model for thermal conductivity of“continuous matrix/dispersed and separated 3D-particles”type composite materials and its application to WC-M(M=Co,Ag)systems

In the present work a new thermal conductivity model is developed for two-phase composite materials,which are consisted of a continuous matrix and dispersed 3 D-particles separated from each other by the matrix as a function of grain size and volume ratio of the dispersed particles at different *** model is applied to reproduce experimental thermal conductivity values of cemented carbide systems WC-Co and *** agreement was found between measured thermal conductivity data originating from both this work and recent literature and the calculated ones only using semi-empirical parameters for the interfacial thermal resistance(ITR)values at WC/Co,WC/Ag and WC/WC interfaces as a function of ***,the temperature and grain size dependence of the thermal conductivity for WC is established for the first *** model works well for the case when the matrix(Ag)has a higher thermal conductivity compared to that of the WC particles and also for the case when the matrix(Co)has a lower thermal conductivity compared to that of the WC *** new model forms a physically sound basis for further development/materials design of cemented carbides and particlereinforced composite materials.

In the next generation wireless communication systems operating at near terahertz frequencies, dielectric substrates with the lowest possible permittivity and loss factor are becoming essential. In this work, highly porous (98.9% ± 0.1%) and lightweight silica foams (0.025 ± 0.005 g/cm3), that have extremely low relative permittivity (εr = 1.018 ± 0.003 at 300 GHz) and corresponding loss factor (tan δ< 3 × 10−4 at 300 GHz) are synthetized by a template-assisted sol-gel method. After dip-coating the slabs of foams with a thin film of cellulose nanofibers, sufficiently smooth surfaces are obtained, on which it is convenient to deposit electrically conductive planar thin films of metals important for applications in electronics and telecommunication devices. Here, micropatterns of Ag thin films are sputtered on the substrates through a shadow mask to demonstrate double split-ring resonator metamaterial structures as radio frequency filters operating in the sub-THz band.

Chronic kidney disease severely deteriorates the outcome of gastrointestinal bleeding: A meta-analysis

AIM To understand the influence of chronic kidney disease(CKD) on mortality, need for transfusion and rebleeding in gastrointestinal(GI) bleeding *** A systematic search was conducted in three databases for studies on GI bleeding patients with CKD or endstage renal disease(ESRD) with data on outcomes of mortality, transfusion requirement, rebleeding rate and length of hospitalization(LOH). Calculations were performed with Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software using the random effects model. Heterogeneity was tested by using Cochrane's Q and I2 statistics. Mean difference(MD) and OR(odds ratio) were ***1063 articles(EMBASE: 589; PubM ed: 459; Cochrane: 15) were found in total. 5 retrospective articles and 1 prospective study were available for analysis. These 6 articles contained data on 406035 patients, of whom 51315 had impaired renal function. The analysis showed a higher mortality in the CKD group(OR = 1.786, 95%CI: 1.689-1.888, P 15, P < 0.001) and spent more time in hospital(MD = 13.245, 95%CI: 6.886-19.623, P < 0.001) than the *** ESRD increases mortality, need for transfusion, rebleeding rate and LOH among GI bleeding patients. Prospective patient registries and observational clinical trials are crucially needed.

The 2-m aperture Chinese Space Station Telescope(CSST),which observes at wavelengths ranging from 255 to 1000 nm,is expected to start science operations in *** ultra-deep field observation program covering approximately 10 deg2is proposed with supernovae(SNe) and other transients as one of its primary science *** paper presents the simulated detection results of type Ⅰa supernovae(SNe Ⅰa) and explores the impact of new datasets on the determinations of cosmological *** simulated observations are conducted with an exposure time of 150 s and cadences of 10,20,and 30 *** survey mode covering a total of 80 observations but with a random cadence in the range of 4 to 14 d is also *** simulation results indicate that the CSST can detect up to ~1800 SNe la at z <*** simulated SNe la are then used to constrain the cosmological *** constraint on can be improved by 37.5% using the 10-d cadence sample in comparison with the Pantheon sample.A deeper measurement simulation with a 300 s exposure time together with the Pantheon sample improves the current constraints on Ωmby 58.3% and ω by 47.7%.Taking future lager sets of nearby SN Ⅰa sample form ground-based surveys(i.e.,N~3400) into consideration,the constraints on ω can be improved by 59.1%.The CSST ultra-deep field observation program is expected to discover large amounts of SNe la over a broad redshift span and enhance our understanding of the nature of dark energy.

BACKGROUND Obesity rates have increased sharply in recent decades. As there is a growing number of cases in which acute pancreatitis(AP) is accompanied by obesity, we found it clinically relevant to investigate how body-mass index(BMI) affects the outcome of the *** To quantify the association between subgroups of BMI and the severity and mortality of *** A meta-analysis was performed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis(PRISMA) Protocols. Three databases(PubMed, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library) were searched for articles containing data on BMI, disease severity and mortality rate for AP. Englishlanguage studies from inception to 19 June 2017 were checked against our predetermined eligibility criteria. The included articles reported all AP cases with no restriction on the etiology of the disease. Only studies that classified AP cases according to the Atlanta Criteria were involved in the severity analyses. Odds ratios(OR) and mean differences(MD) were pooled using the random effects model with the DerSimonian-Laird estimation and displayed on forest plots. The meta-analysis was registered in PROSPERO under number *** A total of 19 articles were included in our meta-analysis containing data on 9997 patients. As regards severity, a subgroup analysis showed a direct association between AP severity and BMI. BMI 25 had an almost three-fold increased risk for severe AP in comparison to normal BMI(OR = 2.87, 95%CI: 1.90-4.35, P < 0.001). Importantly,the mean BMI of patients with severe AP is higher than that of the non-severe group(MD = 1.79, 95%CI: 0.89-2.70, P < 0.001). As regards mortality, death rates among AP patients are the highest in the underweight and obese subgroups. A BMI < 18.5 carries an almost two-fold increase in risk of mortality compared to normal BMI(OR = 1.82, 95%CI: 1.32-2.50, P < 0.001). However, the chance of mortality
