Prussian Blue Analogue‑Templated Nanocomposites for Alkali‑Ion Batteries:Progress and Perspective

Lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)have dominated the portable electronic and electrochemical energy markets since their commercialisation,whose high cost and lithium scarcity have prompted the development of other alkali-ion batteries(AIBs)including sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)and potassium-ion batteries(PIBs).Owing to larger ion sizes of Na^(+)and K^(+)compared with Li^(+),nanocomposites with excellent crystallinity orientation and well-developed porosity show unprecedented potential for advanced lithium/sodium/potassium *** enticing open rigid framework structures,Prussian blue analogues(PBAs)remain promising self-sacrificial templates for the preparation of various nanocomposites,whose appeal originates from the well-retained porous structures and exceptional electrochemical activities after thermal *** review focuses on the recent progress of PBA-derived nanocomposites from their fabrication,lithium/sodium/potassium storage mechanism,and applications in AIBs(LIBs,SIBs,and PIBs).To distinguish various PBA derivatives,the working mechanism and applications of PBA-templated metal oxides,metal chalcogenides,metal phosphides,and other nanocomposites are systematically evaluated,facilitating the establishment of a structure–activity correlation for these *** on the fruitful achievements of PBA-derived nanocomposites,perspectives for their future development are envisioned,aiming to narrow down the gap between laboratory study and industrial reality.

Status and prospects for symmetric organic redox flow batteries

As environmental concerns from fossil fuel consumption intensify, large-scale energy storage becomes imperative for the integration of renewable sources like wind, hydro, and solar with the electrical *** flow batteries, particularly those employing organic molecules, are positioned as a key technology for this purpose. This review explores the growing field of symmetric organic redox flow batteries(ORFBs) within this context. Unlike traditional asymmetric designs based on unique active materials for each electrode, symmetric ORFBs involve a single bipolar species for both electrodes. This review highlights the benefits of a symmetric design, and categorizes five distinct classes of organic bipolar molecules used in both aqueous and non-aqueous solvents. By providing a comprehensive overview of their cell cycling and performance characteristics, the strengths and weaknesses of the diverse categories of bipolar molecules are highlighted for both solvent systems, as are opportunities for future development. This should guide new research directions and advance the development of practical symmetric ORFBs.

Numerical prediction of ground vibrations induced by LPG boiling liquid expansion vapour explosion(BLEVE)inside a road tunnel

Accidental boiling liquid expansion vapour explosions(BLEVEs)caused by the bursting of liquified petroleum gas(LPG)tank inside a tunnel can induce vibrations of its surrounding geological media and threaten the stability of adjacent tunnels and ***,it is essential to understand the characteristics of vibrations induced by LPG BLEVEs inside the tunnel for the safety design of its adjacent *** to the difficulty in effectively predicting the LPG BLEVE loads,the current practice usually employs equivalent methods,e.g.,the TNT-equivalency method,in LPG BLEVE load predictions for structural response analysis,which may lead to inaccurate response *** study compares ground vibrations induced by a BLEVE inside an arched road tunnel with those induced by its equivalent TNT explosion via high-fidelity numerical *** results demonstrate that the frequency of BLEVEinduced vibrations is lower than that induced by the TNT explosion at the same scaled *** intensity of LPG BLEVE-induced vibrations at relatively small-scaled distances is lower than that of TNT explosion-induced vibrations at the same scaled distance,but becomes higher after a certain scaled distance because of the relatively low attenuation *** addition,parametric analysis is conducted to evaluate the effects of various factors on the characteristics of LPG BLEVE-induced ground *** is found that the surrounding rock type,the rock porosity,and the cover depth of the tunnel have more significant influences than the concrete grade of the tunnel *** recommendation for the tunnel design is also given based on the intensity and frequency characteristics of BLEVE-induced vibrations.

Silver-zinc(Ag-Zn)batteries are a promising battery system for flexible electronics owing to their high safety,high energy density,and stable output ***,poor cycling performance,low areal capacity,and inferior flexibility limit the practical application of Ag-Zn ***,we develop a flexible quasi-solid-state Ag-Zn battery system with superior performance by using mild electrolyte and binder-free *** foam current collector is introduced to impede the growth of Zn dendrite,and the structure of Ag cathode is engineered by electrodeposition and chloridization process to improve the areal *** novel battery demonstrates a remarkable cycle retention of 90%for 200 cycles at 3 mA cm^(-2).More importantly,this binder-free battery can afford a high capacity of 3.5 mAh cm^(-2)at 3 mA cm^(-2),an outstanding power density of 2.42 mW cm^(-2),and a maximum energy density of 3.4 mWh cm^(-2).An energy management circuit is adopted to boost the output voltage of a single battery,which can power electronic ink display and Bluetooth temperature and humidity *** developed battery can even operate under the extreme conditions,such as being bent and sealed in solid *** work offers a path for designing electrodes and electrolyte toward high-performance flexible Ag-Zn batteries.

Environmentally-friendly harvesting TiO2 nanospheres and V2O5 microrods from spent selective catalytic reduction catalysts

Spent selective catalytic reduction(SCR) catalysts are defined as hazardous wastes because of the toxicity of V2O5to the ecological environment. Recycling of V2O5and TiO2from the spent SCR catalysts has strikingly social and environmental benefits as well as economic values. In this work, a “NaOH + Na2CO3” system was employed to recycle 99.2% of anatase/rutile TiO2nanospheres with a nanospherical morphology from the spent SCR catalysts by a simple sintering-leaching process. The observed photocatalytic performance of anatase/rutile TiO2nanospheres was higher than that of the other TiO2recovered from the spent SCR catalysts,commercial TiO2, and chemosynthetic TiO2, which can be ascribed to the enhanced separation of photo-excited electron/hole in a direct Z-scheme of anatase/rutile TiO2homostructures. Additionally, high-purity V2O5microrods with high H2S removal performance were efficiently prepared by a hydrothermal method in the leaching solution, which is superior to the traditional method including NH4VO3precipitation and solvent extraction as the present method can recycle vanadate from low-grade filtrate with a 99.6% of recovery *** study develops an alternative method for controlling pollution of vanadate to soil and water and recycling of valuable metals.

This study investigated the performances of a new type of precast beam-column joint subjected to earthquake and impact *** sustainability and durability considerations,new materials such as corrosion-resistant fibre reinforced polymer(FRP)bolts and reinforcements,fibre reinforced concrete(FRC),and geopolymer concrete(GPC)were used to construct the *** examine the resilience,durability,sustainability,and multi-hazard resistance capacities,both cyclic and pendulum impact tests were carried *** experimental results demonstrated that the proposed precast joints had the comparable or even better performances as compared with the traditional monolithic joints under cyclic and impact *** simulations using ABAQUS were also adopted to determine the optimal values of the concrete-end-plate(CEP)thickness for the proposed dry joints and to further quantify other response parameters which could not be obtained during the test,e.g.,stress distribution,energy absorption,and stress *** on the influences of various parameters on joint performances under different loading conditions was also presented in this study.

Insight into the growth behaviors of MoS_(2)nanograins influenced by step edges and atomic structure of the substrate

The step edges and intrinsic atomic structure of single-crystal substrate play a critical role in determining the growth pathways of transition metal dichalcogenide(TMD)grains,particularly whether the TMDs will grow into wafer-scale single-crystal or anisotropic ***,we investigate the growth behaviours of the MoS_(2)nanograins on(0001)and()sapphire *** one hand,the step edges formed on the(0001)surface after thermal treatment are found to promote the macroscopic aggregation of MoS_(2)nanograins and to form unidirectional large triangular islands along with thesteps in the annealing process,while on the pristine(0001)surface,the MoS_(2)nanograins grow into a random network-like ***,oxygen treatment on the substrate can further enhance the growth of MoS_(2)*** electron microscopy and fast Fourier transform patterns reveal that the substrate could modulate the orientation of MoS_(2)nanograins during their growing *** the other hand,the MoS_(2)nanograins on the surface could self-assemble into one-dimensional nanoribbons due to the strong structural anisotropy of the *** addition,the ratio of Raman intensities for peaks that correspond to the and A1g phonon modes shows a linear relationship with the grain size due to the change of the“phonon confinement”.Moreover,new peaks located at 226 and 280 cm−1 can be observed in the off-resonant and resonant Raman spectra for the MoS_(2)nanograin samples,respectively,which can be attributed to the scatterings from the edges of as-fabricated MoS_(2)nanostructures.

Polypropylene(PP) fibres have primarily used to control shrinkage cracks or mitigate explosive spalling in concrete structures exposed to fire or subjected to impact/blast loads, with limited investigations on capacity improvement. This study unveils the possibility of using PP micro-fibres to improve the impact behaviour of fibre-reinforced ultra-high-performance concrete(FRUHPC) columns. Results show that the addition of fibres significantly improves the impact behaviour of FRUHPC columns by shifting the failure mechanism from brittle shear to favourable flexural failure. The addition of steel or PP fibres affected the impact responses differently. Steel fibres considerably increased the peak impact force(up to 18%) while PP micro-fibres slightly increased the peak(3%-4%). FRUHPC significantly reduced the maximum midheight displacement by up to 30%(under 20°impact) and substantially improved the displacement recovery by up to 100%(under 20° impact). FRUHPC with steel fibres significantly improved the energy absorption while those with PP micro-fibres reduced the energy absorption, which is different from the effect of PP-macro fibre reported in the literature. The optimal fibre content for micro-PP fibres is 1% due to its minimal fibre usage and low peak and residual displacement. This study highlights the potential of FRUHPC as a promising material for impact-resistant structures by creating a more favourable flexural failure mechanism, enhancing ductility and toughness under impact loading, and advancing the understanding of the role of fibres in structural performance.

Performance of double-arch tunnels under internal BLEVE

Double-arch tunnels,as one of the popular forms of tunnels,might be exposed to boiling liquid expanding vapour explosions(BLEVEs)associated with transported liquified petroleum gas(LPG),which could cause damage to the tunnel and even catastrophic collapse of the tunnel in extreme ***,very limited study has investigated the performance of double-arch tunnels when exposed to internal BLEVEs and in most analyses of tunnel responses to accidental *** TNT-equivalence method was used to approximate the explosion load,which may lead to inaccurate tunnel response *** study numerically investigates the response of typical double-arch tunnels to an internal BLEVE resulting from the instantaneous rupture of a 20 m^(3) LPG *** of various factors,including in-situ stresses,BLEVE locations,and lining configurations on tunnel responses are *** results show that the double-arch tunnels at their early-operation ages are more vulnerable to severe damage when exposed to the BLEVE due to the low action of in-situ stress of rock mass on the response of early-age *** is also found that directing the LPG tank to different driving lanes inside tunnels can affect the BLEVE-induced tunnel response more significantly than varying the configurations of tunnel ***,installing section-steel arches in the mid-wall can effectively improve the blast resistance of the double-arch tunnels against the internal *** addition,the prediction models based on multi-variate nonlinear regressions and machine learning methods are developed to predict the BLEVE-induced damage levels of the double-arch tunnels without and with section-steel arches.
