Correlation between the rock mass properties and maximum horizontal stress:A case study of overcoring stress measurements

Understanding the mechanical properties of the lithologies is crucial to accurately determine the horizontal stress *** investigate the correlation between the rock mass properties and maximum horizontal stress,the three-dimensional(3D)stress tensors at 89 measuring points determined using an improved overcoring technique in nine mines in China were adopted,a newly defined characteristic parameter C_(ERP)was proposed as an indicator for evaluating the structural properties of rock masses,and a fuzzy relation matrix was established using the information distribution *** results indicate that both the vertical stress and horizontal stress exhibit a good linear growth relationship with *** is no remarkable correlation between the elastic modulus,Poisson's ratio and depth,and the distribution of data points is scattered and ***,there is no obvious relationship between the rock quality designation(RQD)and *** maximum horizontal stress σ_(H) is a function of rock properties,showing a certain linear relationship with the C_(ERP)at the same *** addition,the overall change trend of σ_(H) determined by the established fuzzy identification method is to increase with the increase of C_(ERP).The fuzzy identification method also demonstrates a relatively detailed local relationship betweenσ_H and C_(ERP),and the predicted curve rises in a fluctuating way,which is in accord well with the measured stress data.

One-step fabrication superhydrophobic sand filter for capillary-driven separation of water-in-oil emulsions

The efficient separation of water-in-oil emulsion is of significance in environment and energy filed,and it has become a world-wide ***,we have presented a one-step,facile and low-cost approach to prepare superhydrophobic sands for efficient separation of water-in-oil *** as-prepared sand layers possessed a water contact angle higher than 151°,demonstrating their superior superhydrophobic ***,the as-prepared sand layers could separate water-in-emulsions with separation efficiency up to 99.7%,which is superior to both traditional and superwettable filtration *** effect of thickness of sand layer on separation performance was also *** results showed that the filtration flux decreased with the increased of filtration thickness while the separation efficiency *** as-prepared sand layer proposed by this study is a processing candidate for separating water-in-oil emulsion in practical ***,the as-prepared superhydrophobic sand fabrication method also provides an alternative for desert water storage.

The numerical study of the simpleshear flow past the cylinders shows that the particles ’motion is controlled by the vortex.

Effect of process parameters on dry centrifugal granulation of molten slag by a rotary disk atomizer

Dry centrifugal granulation(DCG)experiments for blast furnace slag(BFS)were performed by means of a rotary disk atomizer since water quenching method can create a series of *** results showed that the DCG method can granulate the BFS,but the results are easily affected by the slag flow rate,disk rotating speed,disk radius,disk material and slag falling *** granulating parameters with an excessive flow rate,low rotating speed,SiN–SiC disk,stainless steel disk and low slag falling height are detrimental to the granulation *** most suitable parameters for granulation are a slag flow rate of 5.1×10^(−5) m^(3)/s,a disk rotating speed of 1500–2300 r/min,a slag falling height of 0.8 m and a smooth graphitic disk with the radius of 0.1 *** the absence of an off-center flow,the overall best granulating effect produces round particles with mean diameter of 3.43 mm without creating slag *** vitreous content of the BFS particles granulated by graphite disks is 92%,which meets the requirements of cement raw *** Bond work index of dry granulated BFS is 18.4 kWh/t,and the grindability of dry granulated slag and water-quenched slag is similar.

A semiempirical algorithm for SAR wave height retrieval and its validation using Envisat ASAR wave mode data

Many synthetic aperture radar (SAR) wave height retrieval algorithms have been ***,the wave height retrievals from most existing methods either depend on other input as the first guess or are restricted to the long wave regime.A semiempirical algorithm is presented,which has the objective to estimate the wave height from SAR imagery without any prior *** proposed novel algorithm was developed based on the theoretical SAR ocean wave imaging mechanism and the empirical relation between two types of wave *** dependency of the proposed model on radar incident and wave direction was *** Envisat advanced synthetic aperture radar (ASAR) wave mode data,the model can be reduced to the simple form with two input parameters,i.e.,the cutoff wavelength and peak wavelength of ocean wave,which can be retrieved from SAR imagery without any prior knowledge of wind or *** Envisat ASAR wave mode data and the collocated buoy measurements from NDBC,the scmicmpirical algorithm is validated and compared with the Envisat ASAR level 2 *** root-mean-square-error (RMSE) and scatter index (SI) in respect to the in situ measurements are 0.52 m and 19％ *** results indicate that,for Envisat ASAR wave mode data,the proposed method works well.

Effect of coal particle swarm properties on the fluidization characteristics and coal beneficiation in a dense-phase gas-solid fluidized bed

This paper analyzes the influence of different coal mass fraction in an air dense medium fluidized bed （ADMFB）. The effect of the low density particles layer on heavy sedimentation increased with increasing material layer thickness. The thickness of the low density particles layer also affected the final settling time of the high densiW particles. Increasing the thickness of the low density particles layer by △h provoked an increase in the settling of high density particles that was related to their diameter （△h/D）. The pressure gradient across the bed was lower than that observed for the control experiment, which had only the dense material, owing to a decrease in the pressure gradient in Zones 1 and 5 （at the top and bottom of the bed, respectively）. Introducing different coal sizes resulted in different fluidization environments, particle accumulation layers, and changes to the surrounding zone. However, the influence of the coal particles on the local bed characteristics was related to its concentration. The feeding mass fraction of 6-13mm size and 13-25mm size coal should be limited to10% and 13%, respectively. The ranges of possible deviation were found to be 0.08-0.15 and 0.07-0.10 for the respective samples.

In cold regions,the thermal effect of accumulated water on underlying permafrost and permafrost subgrade remains a significant hazard causing engineering *** depth of accumulated water may be an important influence factor of permafrost thermal stability,but there is lack of qualitative and quantitative research about *** this study,equivalent thermal conductivity theory and solid heat transfer theory have been used to establish the calculation model for simulating heat transfer in water and ***,the accuracy and reliability of the calculation model are checked by monitored data and subsequently used to analyze the thermal erosion of water on underlying permafrost and permafrost under the *** simulation results show that shallow water can protect permafrost and deeper water disrupts the thermal stability of underlying *** thermal effect extent of water is primarily determined by its depth,and the concept of critical depth and stable depth of accumulated water has been ***,the temperature field of permafrost under embankment can be changed by the slope toe *** addition,the thermal effect range of the slope toe water is limited by the thermal influence radius,which increases with the depth of standing *** findings provide support as well as a fundamental base for environmental issues arising from the accumulated *** observations will,thus,also be valuable to further engineering environment studies in cold regions.

Synthesis and photo-responsive behaviors of hollow polyazobenzene micro-spheres

By means of distillation precipitation polymerization,the silica-hybrid particles with polyazobenzene shell (PAzo@SiO2) microspheres were prepared with 6-(4-methoxy-4'-oxy-azobenzene) hexyl methacrylate (Azo-M) as monomer,divinylbenzene (DVB) as cross-linker,and ～250 nm vinylated sol-gel silica particles as template. Hollow polyazobenzene microspheres were further developed after selective removal of the silica cores with HF solution. When the content of DVB related to Azo-M is 20 wt%,the acetonitrile is 200 mL,and the polymerization time is 4.5 h,the hollow PAzo microspheres with about 20 nm shell are successfully fabricated. These hollow PAzo microspheres have excellent reversible photoisomerization,and their first-order rate constant of trans-cis isomerization only decreases 11.8% compared with homopolymer of azobenzene (Homo-PAzo).

A novel porous nanocomposite,cross-linked chitosan and polyethylene glycol(PEG) bead-supported MnFe_(2) O_(4) nanoparticles(CPM),was developed as an efficient adsorbent to remove metalloid(As(Ⅲ))and heavy metals(Cd(Ⅱ),Cu(Ⅱ),and Pb(Ⅱ)).The characteristics of CPM showed a porous structure,well dispersed MnFe_(2) O_(4),and several of hydroxyl and amino groups(-OH,-NH_(2)).Batch experiments demonstrated that the best adsorption property of As(Ⅲ),Cd(Ⅱ),Cu(Ⅱ),and Pb(Ⅱ) was achieved within 8 h with maximum adsorption capacities of 9.90,9.73,43.94,and 11.98 mg/g,*** and synergistic effects(particularly precipitation) were included in the co-adsorption mechanism of As(Ⅲ) and heavy ***,As(Ⅲ) was partly oxidized by MnFe_(2) O_(4) to As(V),and both were coordinated on MnFe_(2) O_(4) ***(Ⅱ) could also bind to MnFe_(2) O_(4) by ion exchange and electrostatic ***,Cd(Ⅱ) and Cu(Ⅱ) tended to be coordinated on ***,CPM can serve as a remediation material for water and soil co-contaminated with As(Ⅲ) and heavy metals.

A Dynamic Micromechanical Constitutive Model for Frozen Soil under Impact Loading

By taking the frozen soil as a particle-reinforced composite material which consists of clay soil （i.e., the matrix） and ice particles, a micromechanical constitutive model is established to describe the dynamic compressive deformation of frozen soil. The proposed model is constructed by referring to the debonding damage theory of composite materials, and addresses the effects of strain rate and temperature on the dynamic compressive deformation of frozen soil. The proposed model is verified through comparison of the predictions with the corresponding dynamic experimental data of frozen soil obtained from the split Hopkinson pressure bar （SHPB） tests at different high strain rates and temperatures. It is shown that the predictions agree well with the experimental results.
