Food allergy and related risk factors in 2540 preschool children: an epidemiological survey in Guangdong Province, southern China

Background:Although the number of studies on allergic diseases in the general population of southern China is increasing,only a few have addressed food allergy(FA)in children in this *** present study aimed to investigate the prevalence,clinical manifestations,spectrum of allergens,and related risk factors of FA in preschool children in Guangdong Province,southern ***:A random cluster-sampling method was used to select 24 kindergartens from 12 cities in Guangdong *** parents or guardians of the children were requested to complete a questionnaire on general information and data regarding FA diagnosis and symptoms in the children and their first-degree ***,the Chi-square test,multivariate regression analysis,and Spearman's rank-order correlation coefficient analysis were performed to identify statistically significant ***:Analysis of 2540 valid questionnaires revealed an FA prevalence rate of 4%.Adverse food reactions were due to the consumption of shrimp(4.4%),crab(3.2%),mango(2.3%),cow's milk and dairy products(1.9%),and eggs(1.4%).Logistic regression analysis indicated that a history of FA and a history of allergic rhinitis in the first-degree relatives were the major factors leading to FA in ***:The incidence of FA in children in Guangdong Province is higher than that commonly *** individual's genetic background is an important risk factor for ***,mitigation of the impact of lifestyle and environmental factors should be carefully considered to reduce the incidence of childhood FA.

MDSLB:A new static load balancing method for parallel molecular dynamics simulations

Large-scale parallelization of molecular dynamics simulations is facing challenges which seriously affect the simula- tion efficiency, among which the load imbalance problem is the most critical. In this paper, we propose, a new molecular dynamics static load balancing method （MDSLB）. By analyzing the characteristics of the short-range force of molecular dynamics programs running in parallel, we divide the short-range force into three kinds of force models, and then pack- age the computations of each force model into many tiny computational units called ＂cell loads＂, which provide the basic data structures for our load balancing method. In MDSLB, the spatial region is separated into sub-regions called ＂local domains＂, and the cell loads of each local domain are allocated to every processor in turn. Compared with the dynamic load balancing method, MDSLB can guarantee load balance by executing the algorithm only once at program startup without migrating the loads dynamically. We implement MDSLB in OpenFOAM software and test it on TianHe-lA supercomputer with 16 to 512 processors. Experimental results show that MDSLB can save 34%-64% time for the load imbalanced cases.

The accuracy of predicates selectivity estimation is one of the important factors affecting query optimization performance. State-of-art selectivity estimation algorithms for string predicates based on Pruned countsuffix tree(PST) often suffer severe underestimating and overestimating problems, thus their average relative errors are not good. We analyze the main causes of the underestimating and overestimating prob-lems, propose a novel Restricted pruned count-suffix tree(RPST) and a new pruning strategy. Based on these, we present the EKVI algorithm and the EMO algorithm which are extended from the KVI algorithm and the MO algorithm respectively. The experiments compare the EKVI algorithm and the EMO algorithm with the traditional KVI algorithm and the MO algorithm, and the results show that the average relative errors of our selectivity estimation algorithms are significantly better than the traditional selectivity estimation algorithms. The EMO algorithm is the best among these algorithms from the overall view.

In fall–winter, 2007–2013, visibility and light scattering coefficients（b sp） were measured along with PM_（2.5）mass concentrations and chemical compositions at a background site in the Pearl River Delta（PRD） region. The daily average visibility increased significantly（p 〈 0.01） at a rate of 1.1 km/year, yet its median stabilized at ~13 km. No haze days occurred when the 24-hr mean PM_（2.5）mass concentration was below 75 μg/m^3. By multiple linear regression on the chemical budget of particle scattering coefficient（b sp）, we obtained site-specific mass scattering efficiency（MSE） values of 6.5 ± 0.2, 2.6 ± 0.3, 2.4 ± 0.7 and 7.3 ± 1.2 m2/g,respectively, for organic matter（OM）, ammonium sulfate（AS）, ammonium nitrate（AN） and sea salt（SS）. The reconstructed light extinction coefficient（b ext） based on the Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments（IMPROVE） algorithm with our site-specific MSE revealed that OM, AS, AN, SS and light-absorbing carbon（LAC） on average contributed 45.9% ± 1.6%,25.6% ± 1.2%, 12.0% ± 0.7%, 11.2% ± 0.9% and 5.4% ± 0.3% to light extinction, *** b ext displayed a significant reduction rate of 14.1/Mm·year（p 〈 0.05）; this rate would be 82% higher if it were not counteracted by increasing relative humidity（RH） and hygroscopic growth factor（f（RH）） at rates of 2.5% and 0.16/year-1（p 〈 0.01）, respectively, during the fall–winter, 2007–2013. This growth of RH and f（RH） partly offsets the positive effects of lowered AS in improving visibility, and aggravated the negative effects of increasing AN to impair visibility.

Stress induced by low temperature, which represents a widespread environmental factor,strongly affects maize growth and yield. However, the physiological characteristics and molecular regulatory mechanisms of maize seedlings in response to cold remain poorly understood. In this study, using RNA-seq, we investigated the transcriptome profiles of two sweet com inbred lines, "Richao"(RC) and C5, under cold stress. A total of 357 and 455 differentially expressed genes(DEGs) were identified in the RC and C5 lines, respectively, 94 DEGs were detected as common DEGs related to cold response in both genotypes, and a total of 589 DEGs were detected as cold tolerance-associated genes. By combining protein function clustering analysis and significantly enriched Gene Ontology(GO) terms analysis,we suggest that transcription factors may play a dominating role in the cold stress response and tolerance of sweet com. Furthermore, 74 differentially expressed transcription factors were identified, of those many genes involved in the metabolism and regulation of hormones. These results expand our understanding of the complex mechanisms involved in chilling tolerance in maize, and provide a set of candidate genes for further genetic analyses.

The ability to identify a specific type of leukemia using minimally invasive biopsies holds great promise to improve the diagnosis,treatment selection,and prognosis prediction of *** genome-wide methylation profiling and machine learning methods,we investigated the utility of CpG methylation status to differentiate blood from patients with acute lymphocytic leukemia(ALL)or acute myelogenous leukemia(AML)from normal *** established a CpG methylation panel that can distinguish ALL and AML blood from normal blood as well as ALL blood from AML blood with high sensitivity and *** then developed a methylation-based survival classifier with 23 CpGs for ALL and 20 CpGs for AML that could successfully divide patients into high-risk and low-risk groups,with significant differences in clinical outcome in each leukemia ***,these findings demonstrate that methylation profiles can be highly sensitive and specific in the accurate diagnosis of ALL and AML,with implications for the prediction of prognosis and treatment selection.
