KDM2B promotes IL-6 production and inflammatory responses through Brg1-mediated chromatin remodeling

IL-6 plays important and pleiotropic roles in infection and inflammatory diseases,and its production needs to be tightly ***,the epigenetic mechanism underlying Il6 gene transcription remains to be fully ***,we report that lysine-specific demethylase 2b(KDM2B),which demethylates H3K4me3 and H3K36me2,is required in macrophages and dendritic cells for the induction of IL-6 but not TNF-α,IL-1,and IFN-β.Compared to wild-type mice,KDM2B-deficient mice were more resistant to endotoxin shock and colitis,with a less severe inflammatory pathogenesis phenotype and decreased IL-6 production in ***2B selectively bound the Il6 promoter but did not alter histone demethylation;instead,KDM2B interacted with Brahma-related gene 1(Brg1),the core ATPase subunit of SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complexes,to facilitate chromatin accessibility of the Il6 ***,KDM2B directly recruited RNA Polymerase II to further initiate and promote Il6 ***,our finding identifies a novel nonclassical function of KDM2B in gene-specific transcription initiation and enhancement of Il6 independent of its demethylase activity and adds new insight into the specific epigenetic modification mechanism of inflammatory immune responses.

Asymmetric Fluorinative Dearomatization of Tryptophol Derivatives by Chiral Anion Phase-Transfer Catalysis

An asymmetric fluorinative dearomatization reaction of tryptophol derivatives was developed via chiral anion phase-transfer catalysis. Vari- ous fluorinated furoindolines were obtained in moderate to excellent yields and enantioselectivity in the presence of Selectfluor. The preliminary mecha- nistic studies suggested the existence of an in situ formed tryptophol boronic ester plays a critical role in determining the enantioselectivity. This method features the facile introduction of a fluorine atom in a highly enantioselective manner and construction of two contiguous quaternary stereogenic cen- ters.

WO3 nanoflakes decorated with CuO clusters for enhanced photoelectrochemical water splitting

The low quantum efficiency arising from poor charges transfer and insufficient light absorption is one of the critical challenges toward achieving highly efficient water splitting in photoelectrochemical cells. Three dimensions（3D） structures and heterojunctions have received intensive research interests recent years due to their excellent ability to separate photo-generated charges as well as the enhanced light harvesting property. Herein,3 D Cu O/WO3structure was fabricated through a facile solvothermal method followed by chemical bath deposition. The loading of Cu O clusters on WO3nanoflake arrays results in a much improved photocurrent density compared with that of pristine WO3nanoflake arrays, which reaches 1.8 m A/cm2 at 1.23 V vs. the reversible hydrogen electrode. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurement demonstrates that the improved performance of Cu O/WO3electrode is attributed to the accelerated charge transfer kinetics as a result of the desirable band alignment in Cu O/WO3heterojunction. This work demonstrates a facile strategy to construct superior WO3electrode, which will ultimately allow for efficient storage of solar energy into hydrogen.

Variations of mercury distribution in the water column during the course of a tidal cycle in the Yangtze Estuarine intertidal zone,China

Tidally induced resuspension processes play an important role in the release of mercury (Hg) into the water column, which increases the risk of Hg exposure to estuarine eco-systems. In order to further understand the geochemical activities of Hg in the intertidal area, the temporal variations of dissolved Hg (Hg D ) and particulate Hg (Hg P ) in the water column during the course of a tidal cycle and its geochemical processes were studied in the southern intertidal zone of the Yangtze Estuary, China. The concentrations of Hg D and Hg P varied between 37-612 ng/L and 51-638 ng/L respectively during the tidal cycle. The increase of Hg D was distinguished at the early flood tide and late ebb tide when the water flow rates were higher. The Hg D concentrations were negatively correlated with Hg P (r = 0.523, p < 0.05) and positively correlated with dissolved organic carbon (DOC) (r = 0.605, p < 0.05) in the bottom water, indicating that the Hg D released from the sediments into the overlying water was associated with the simultaneously released colloidal material in the bottom water. The main pathways for the translocation of Hg from the sediments to the overlying water include the processes of desorption from resuspended particles, advection or diffusion from sediments, and the oxidation of resuspended sulfide. The results of principal components analysis (PCA) and Pearson correlation analysis showed that the combined effects of the total suspended substrate (TSS), DOC, pH and dissolved oxygen (DO) influenced the geochemical activities of Hg in the water column during the course of a tidal cycle.

Estimation and Inference in Semi-Functional Partially Linear Measurement Error Models

This article studies the estimation and statistical inference problems of semi-functional partially linear regression models when the covariates in the linear part are measured with additive error. To obtain the estimation of the parametric component, a corrected profile least-squares based estimation procedure is developed. Asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are established under some mild assumptions. To test hypothesis on the parametric part, the authors propose a novel test statistic based on the difference between the corrected residual sums of squares under the null and alternative hypotheses, and show that its limiting distribution is a weighted sum of independent standard χ12. Finally, the authors illustrate the finite sample performance of the methods with some simulation studies and a real data application.

A Chandra study of the massive, distant galaxy cluster SDSS J0150–1005

We present a study of a fossil cluster,SDSS J0150–1005（z 0.364）,with high spatial resolution based on the imaging spectroscopic analysis of Chandra *** Chandra X-ray image shows a relaxed and symmetric morphology,which indicates that SDSS J0150–1005 is a well-developed galaxy cluster with no sign of a recent *** to the isothermal model,its global gas temperature is 5.73±0.80 keV,and the virial mass is 6.23±1.34×1014M⊙.Compared with the polytropic temperature model,the mass calculated based on the isothermal model is overestimated by 49%±*** central gas entropy,S0.1 r200=143.9±18.3 keV cm2,is significantly lower than the average value of normal galaxy clusters with similar *** results indicate that SDSS J0150–1005 formed during an early epoch.

Facile Preparation of Water-Soluble and Cytocompatible Small-Sized Chitosan-Polydopamine Nanoparticles

In this paper, a kind of novel water-soluble chitosan-polydopamine （CHT-PDA） nanoparticles with a hydrody- namic diameter （Dh） around 10 nm were reported by the combination of self-polymerization of PDA and electro- static complexation between PDA and CHT in water/DMSO （W/D） mixture at the molar fraction of DMSO （XDMSO =0.37）. The preparation method was efficient with a yield of 98% around. The as-prepared water-soluble CHT-PDA nanoparticles exhibited effective UV-screen ability, enhanced visible-light transmittance and good cyto- compatibility via MTT assay, which might be used in transparent formulation for UV protection usage, especially in biological field including sun care application.

Ligand Perception,Activation,and Early Signaling of Plant Steroid Receptor Brassinosteroid Insensitive 1

Leucine-rich repeat receptor-like kinases （LRR-RLKs） belong to a large group of cell surface proteins involved in many aspects of plant development and environmental responses in both monocots and dicots. Brassinosteroid insensitive 1 （BRI1）, a member of the LRR X subfamily, was first identified through several forward genetic screenings for mutants insensitive to brassinosteroids （BRs）, which are a class of plant-specific steroid hormones. Since its identification, BRI1 and its homologs had been proved as receptors perceiving BRs and initiating BR signaling. The co-receptor BRIl-associated kinase 1 and its homologs, and other BRI1 interacting proteins such as its inhibitor BRI1 kinase inhibitor I （BKI1） were identified by genetic andbiochemical approaches. The detailed mechanisms of BR perception by BRI1 and the activation of BRI1 receptor complex have also been elucidated. Moreover, several mechanisms for termination of the activated BRI1 signaling were also discovered. In this review, we will focus on the recent advances on the mechanism of BRI1 phosphorylation and activation, the regulation of its receptor complex, the structure basis of BRI1 ectodomain and BR recognition, its direct substrates, and the termination of the activated BRI1 receptor complex.

Preparation of hollow alumina nanospheres via surfactant-assisted flame spray pyrolysis

Hollow A1203 nanospheres with well-defined structure and shape were successfully prepared via flame spray pyrolysis （FSP） in the presence of a surfactant as droplet stabilizer. The morphology and structure of the nanospheres were systematically characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and N2 sorption. A solution of hydrated aluminum nitrate, polyethylene glycol （PEG） and absolute ethanol was sprayed into a flame to transform droplets into particles after evaporation and surface nucleation, forming hollow AI203 nanospheres from aluminum nitrate decomposition. The surfactant was found effective in producing smaller droplets because of decreased surface tension and viscosity, while the combination of oxygen atoms on PEG chains and aluminum ions in solution reduced interfacial turbulence, leading to increased stability of the droplets.
