A positive trend in the stability of global offshore wind energy

The recognition on the trend of wind energy stability is still extremely rare,although it is closely related to acquisition efficiency,grid connection,equipment lifetime,and costs of wind energy *** the 40-year(1979–2018)ERA-Interim data from the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts,this study presented the spatial-temporal distribution and climatic trend of the stability of global offshore wind energy as well as the abrupt phenomenon of wind energy stability in key regions over the past 40 years with the climatic analysis method and Mann-Kendall(M-K)*** results show the following 5 points.(1)According to the coefficient of variation(C_(v))of the wind power density,there are six permanent stable zones of global offshore wind energy:the southeast and northeast trade wind zones in the Indian,Pacific and Atlantic oceans,the Southern Hemisphere westerly,and a semi-permanent stable zone(North Indian ocean).(2)There are six lowvalue zones for both seasonal variability index(S_(v))and monthly variability index(M_(v))globally,with a similar spatial distribution as that of the six permanent stable zones.M_(v) and S_(v) in the Arabian Sea are the highest in the world.(3)After C_(v),M_(v) and S_(v) are comprehensively considered,the six permanent stable zones have an obvious advantage in the stability of wind energy over other sea areas,with C_(v) below 0.8,M_(v) within 1.0,and S_(v) within 0.7 all the year round.(4)The global stability of offshore wind energy shows a positive climatic trend for the past four decades.C_(v),M_(v) and S_(v) have not changed significantly or decreased in most of the global ocean during 1979 *** is,wind energy is flat or more stable,while the monthly and seasonal variabilities tend to shrink/smooth,which is beneficial for wind energy utilization.(5)C_(v) in the low-latitude Pacific and M_(v) and S_(v) in both the North Indian ocean and the low-latitude Pacific have an obvious abrupt phenomenon at the end of

Discovery of the Significant Impacts of Swell Propagation on Global Wave Climate Change

This study compared the differences in the wave climate in the South China Sea and North Indian ocean under these two datasets:ERA-40 wave reanalysis and Mei’s hindcast wave *** the numerical calculation of regional ocean waves,the wave climate characteristics exhibited significant bias if the influence of external swells(swells from afar)was not fully considered,which may provide an incorrect basis for global climate change analysis.1)The trends of the significant wave height(SWH)obtained from the two datasets showed significant differences,such as those of the Bay of Bengal and the Java Sea in *** the past 45 years,SWH from ERA-40(SWH-ERA)exhibited a significant annual increase in low-latitude waters of the North Indian ocean(0.2-0.6 cm yr^(-1))and South China Sea(0.2-0.8 cm yr^(-1)).2)In the Bay of Bengal,the SWH-ERA in each month was generally 0.5 m higher than the SWH from Mei’s hindcast wave data(SWH-Mei)and can reach 1.0 m higher in some months.3)In the Bay of Bengal,SWH-ERA and SWH-Mei increased significantly at annual rates of 0.13 and 0.27 cm yr^(-1),*** increasing trend was mainly reflected after ***-ERA showed a trough in 1975(1.33 m)and a crest in 1992(1.83 m),which were not reflected in SWH-Mei.

Uncertainty quantification of inverse analysis for geomaterials using probabilistic programming

Uncertainty is an essentially challenging for safe construction and long-term stability of geotechnical *** inverse analysis is commonly utilized to determine the physico-mechanical ***,conventional inverse analysis cannot deal with uncertainty in geotechnical and geological *** this study,a framework was developed to evaluate and quantify uncertainty in inverse analysis based on the reduced-order model(ROM)and probabilistic *** ROM was utilized to capture the mechanical and deformation properties of surrounding rock mass in geomechanical *** programming was employed to evaluate uncertainty during construction in geotechnical engineering.A circular tunnel was then used to illustrate the proposed framework using analytical and numerical *** results show that the geomechanical parameters and associated uncertainty can be properly obtained and the proposed framework can capture the mechanical behaviors under ***,a slope case was employed to demonstrate the performance of the developed *** results prove that the proposed framework provides a scientific,feasible,and effective tool to characterize the properties and physical mechanism of geomaterials under uncertainty in geotechnical engineering problems.

Leading Pattern of Spring Drought Variability over East Asia and Associated Drivers

Drought events have become more frequent and intense over East Asia in recent decades,leading to huge socioeconomic *** the droughts have been studied extensively by cases or for individual regions,their leading variability and associated causes remain *** on the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index(SPEI)and ERA5 reanalysis product from 1979 to 2020,this study evealuates the severity of spring droughts in East Asia and investigates their variations and associated *** results indicate that North China and Mongolia have experienced remarkable trends toward dryness during spring in recent decades,while southwestern China has witnessed an opposite trend toward *** first Empirical Orthogonal Function mode of SPEI variability reveals a similar seesawing pattern,with more severe dryness in northwestern China,Mongolia,North China,South Korea,and Japan but increased wetness in Southwestern China and southeast *** investigation reveals that the anomalously dry(wet)surface in North(Southwestern)China is significantly associated with anomalously high(low)temperature,less(more)precipitation,and reduced(increased)soil moisture during the previous winter and early spring,regulated by an anomalous anticyclone(cyclone)and thus reduced(increased)water vapor *** spring dry-wet pattern in East Asia is also linked to cold sea surface temperature anomalies in the central-eastern *** findings of this study have important implications for improving the prediction of spring drought events in East Asia.

Physical Prediction Model of Compound Hydrodynamic Unload-Load Response Ratio and Its Application in Reservoir Colluvium Landslide

It is well known that the deformation and damage of reservoir colluvium landslides are often determined by the combined dynamics of reservoir water level change and *** on the systematic analysis of the change law of reservoir water level,rainfall and displacements of reservoir colluvium landslide,this paper proposes the compound hydrodynamic action of rainfall and reservoir water as the unload-load parameter,and the landslide displacement as the unload-load response *** on this,a physical prediction model of the compound hydrodynamic unload-load response ratio of reservoir colluvium landslide was established,and the quantitative relationship between the compound hydrodynamic unload-load response ratio and its stability evolution was in-depth analyzed and *** the basis of the above research,taking Shuping landslide,a typical hydrodynamic pressure landslide as an example,the unload-load response ratio model is used to systematically evaluate and predict the stability evolution law and the change trend of the landslide under compound hydrodynamic *** prediction result shows that the variation law of the compound hydrodynamic unload-load response ratio is consistent with the dynamic evolution law of its ***,the above studies show that the compound hydrodynamic unload-load response ratio parameter is an effective displacement dynamic evaluation parameter for reservoir colluvium landslides,so it can be used in the prediction of the reservoir colluvium landslides.

The relationship between support and surrounding rock is of great significance to the control of surrounding rock in mining *** view of the fact that most of the existing numerical simulation methods construct virtual elements and stress servo control to approximately replace the hydraulic support problem,this paper establishes a new numerical model of hydraulic support with the same working characteristics as the actual hydraulic support by integrating numerical simulation software Rhino,Griddle and FLAC3D,which can realize the simulation of different working *** on this model,the influence mechanism of the supporting strength of hydraulic support on surrounding rock stress regulation and coal stability in front of the top coal caving face in extra thick coal seam were ***,under different support intensity,the abutment pressure of the bearing coal and the coal in front of it presents the “three-stage”evolution *** influence range of support intensity is 15%–30%.Secondly,1.5 MPa is the upper limit of impact that the support strength can have on the front coal failure ***,within a displacement range of 2.76 m from the coal wall,a support strength of1.5 MPa provides optimal control of the horizontal displacement of the coal.

Assessment of Storm Surge and Flood Inundation in Chittagong City of Bangladesh Based on ADCIRC and GIS

Coastal flooding caused by tropical cyclones has long been a major threat to life,property,and infrastructure in coastal *** study assessed the risk of flooding in Chittagong,southeastern Bangladesh,under extreme sea level scenarios caused by high astronomical tides and storm *** Jelesnianski typhoon model and the ADvanced CIRCulation hydrodynamic model were used to simulate 91 typhoons that occurred in the Bay of Bengal between 1981 and 2017,and observational data were used for model *** inundation model was based on a digital elevation model and a seed spread algorithm,and a geographical information system was used to visualize the flood *** four scenarios,the changes in flood levels caused by sea level rise had no signifi-cant influence on the extent of flooding in *** flood levels of 8.82m(50-year storm surge without sea level rise)and 8.89 m(50-year storm surge with sea level rise),the maximum estimated area of inundation was 11.35 km^(2).The western coastal and southeastern river coastal plain areas of Chittagong have the highest risk of inundation due to their low-lying *** flood levels of 9.83m(100-year storm surge without sea level rise)and 9.97m(100-year storm surge with sea level rise),the maximum simulated flood extent was 36.44km^(2).Simulated floodwaters propagated in a south–north direction,and most of the northern areas of the city are at risk of inundation under these scenarios.

A Detail Investigation on the Antarctic Wind Energy

The scientific development of wind energy based on local conditions is conducive to the urgent energy demand and environmental protection of Antarctic *** this study,the ERA5 reanalysis data are used to evaluate the wind energy resources in the Antarctic region.A series of key indicators,such as wind power density,effective wind speed occurrence,energy level occurrence and stability,are comprehensively considered by using climate statistical analysis methods to analyze the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of Antarctic wind energy *** results show that the Antarctic region contains abundant wind energy resources,which benefits the construction of scientific research *** superior areas are the Southern ocean and the coast of the East Antarctica,followed by the Transantarctic Mountains,the coast of the Bellingshausen Sea and Amundsen *** areas have advantages in terms of wind power density(500-2500 W/m2),effective wind speed occurrence(80%-90%),energy level occur-rence(60%-90%)and stability(Cv:0.6-1,Mv:1.2-1.8,Sv:0.8-1.2).The Antarctic’s wind energy resources in wind power density,effective wind speed occurrence and energy level occurrence in autumn and winter are better than those in summer,while the coefficient of variation in summer is worse than that in autumn and winter.

Characteristics Analysis and Risk Assessment of Extreme Water Levels Based on 60-Year Observation Data in Xiamen, China

Extreme water levels are related to astronomical tides and storm *** typhoon systems,which have caused extreme water level rises,were selected based on 60-yr water level data from the Xiamen tide gauge *** these 11 typhoon systems,the astronomical tide component accounts for 71%-95%of the total water *** Gumbel distribution of extreme water level rise was estimated,and the impact of typhoon surges on water levels during the return period was *** ex-treme tide levels caused by typhoons Herb(1996)and Dujuan(2015)are much higher than those of other typhoons and correspond to the return period of 76 yr and 71 yr,*** differences of sea levels in the presence and absence of these two typhoons in the 10-100 yr return period are 5.8-11.1 *** the 100-yr return period,the total risks within 10,25,50,and 100 yr increase by 94.3%,85.4%,72.9%,and 54.4%,respectively,if the Herb and Dujuan are not *** that typhoon Herb(1996)occurred during the highest astronomical tide,it will produce a water level higher than that of the 1000-yr return *** level rise has an important influence on the water level return period,and the contribution of nonlinear sea level rise in the next 100 yr is estimated to be 10.34%.

Hypercrosslinking Polymers Fabricated from Divinyl Benzene via Friedel-Crafts Addition Polymerization

Microporous organic polymers with high surface area are widely used in many *** them,hypercrosslinked polymers have been extensively concerned because of their simple processes and low-cost ***,due to most state-of-the-art strategies for HCPs based on condensation reactions,the release of small molecules such as hydrochloric acid and methanol involved in such strategies brings about new hazards to ***,we propose a method of fabrication of hypercrosslinked polymers via self-addition polymerization of divinyl benzene and its crosslinking with polar aromatic *** hypercrosslinked polyDVB-based products are demonstrated by FriedelCrafts addition reaction of double bonds on DVB that can connect adjacent phenyl rings of aromatic molecules to form the crosslinked *** HCPDVB-CB obtained in 1-chlorobutane as solvent has a high micropore content and displays high surface area up to 931 m^(2)/*** this finding,DVB is used as a novel external crosslinker for knitting polar aromatic *** L-phenylalanine and bisphenol A are used as the aromatic units,the obtained HCP(Phe-DVB)and HCP(BPA-DVB)could reach surface area of 612 and 471 m^(2)/g,and have hydrogen uptake of0.62 wt%and 0.58 wt%at 77 K and 1.13 bar by comparison with HCPDVB-CB having hydrogen uptake of 0.30 wt%,respectively.
