bACKGROUND： Decision making and surgical planning are to achieve the precise balance of maximal removal of target lesion, maximal sparing of functional liver remnant volume, and minimal surgical invasiveness and therefore, crucial in liver surgery. The aim of this prospective study was to validate the accuracy and predictability of 3D interactive quantitative surgical planning approach （IQSP）, and to evaluate the impact of IQSP on traditional surgical plans based on 2D images. METHODS： A total of 305 consecutive patients undergoing hepatectomy were included in this study. Surgical plans were created by traditional 2D approach using picture archiving and communication system （PACS） and 3D approach using IQSP respectively by two groups of physicians who did not know the surgical plans of the other group. The two surgical plans were submitted to the chief surgeon for selection before operation. The specimens were weighed. The two surgical plans were compared and analyzed retrospectively based on the operation results. RESULTS： The two surgical plans were successfully developed in all 305 patients and all the 3D IQSP surgical plans were selected as the final decision. Total 278 patients successfully underwent surgery, including 147 uncomplex hepatectomy and 131 complex hepatectomy. Twenty-seven patients were withdrawn from hepatectomy. In the uncomplex group, the two surgical plans were the same in all 147 patients and no statistically significant difference was found among 2D calcu- lated resection volume （2D-RV）, 3D IQSP calculated resection volume （IQSP-RV） and the specimen volume. In the complex group, the two surgical plans were different in 49 patients （49/131, 37.4%）. According to the significance of differences, the 49 different patients were classified into three grades. Even with an effective vaccine, an estimated 240 million people are chronically infected with hepatitis b virus （HbV） worldwide. Current antiviral therapies, including interferon and nucleot（s）ide analogues, rarely cure chronic hepatitis b. Animal models are very crucial for understanding the pathogenesis of chronic hepatitis b and developing new therapeutic drugs or strategies. HbV can only infect humans and chimpanzees, with the use of chimpanzees in HbV research strongly restricted. Thus, most advances in HbV research have been gained using mouse models with HbV replication or infection or models with HbV-related hepadnaviral infection. This review summarizes the animal models currently available for the study of HbV infection.

AIM: To evaluate a different decision tree for safe liver resection and verify its ***: A total of 2457 patients underwent hepatic resection between January 2004 and December 2010 at the Chinese PLA General Hospital,and 634 hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) patients were eligible for the final analyses. Post-hepatectomy liver failure(PHLF) was identified by the association of prothrombin time bilirubin > 50 μmol/L(the "50-50" criteria),which were assessed at day 5 postoperatively or later. The Swiss-Clavien decision tree,Tokyo University-Makuuchi decision tree,and Chinese consensus decision tree were adopted to divide patients into two groups based on those decision trees in sequence,and the PHLF rates were ***: The overall mortality and PHLF rate were 0.16% and 3.0%. A total of 19 patients experienced PHLF. The numbers of patients to whom the SwissClavien,Tokyo University-Makuuchi,and Chinese consensus decision trees were applied were 581,573,and 622,and the PHLF rates were 2.75%,2.62%,and 2.73%,respectively. Significantly more cases satisfied the Chinese consensus decision tree than the Swiss-Clavien decision tree and Tokyo University-Makuuchi decision tree(P 01,P 01); nevertheless,the latter two shared no difference(P = 0.147). The PHLF rate exhibited no significant difference with respect to the three decision ***: The Chinese consensus decision tree expands the indications for hepatic resection for HCC patients and does not increase the PHLF rate compared to the Swiss-Clavien and Tokyo UniversityMakuuchi decision trees. It would be a safe and effective algorithm for hepatectomy in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.

AIM: To investigate whether 7-d triple therapies are still valid in populations with low levels of ***: A total of 1106 Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori)-positive patients were divided into three groups,each of which received one type of 7-d triple therapy. Therapeutic outcomes of the patients were assessed by the 13C-urea breath test at 8 wk after treatment. The susceptibility of H. pylori to antibiotics was determined by an agar-dilution method. Data analysis was performed by χ2 ***: The eradication rates in groups A,b and C were 90.71%(332/366),90.46%(313/346) and 90.87%(189/208),respectively(P = 0.986). The resistance rates were 8.91% for clarithromycin,14.78% for levofloxacin and 0% for amoxicillin. The eradication rate was significantly different between clarithromycin-and levofloxacin-resistant patients(P bvious influence on the eradication rate. Furthermore,three main antibiotics(clarithromycin,levofloxacin and amoxicillin) had lower DID(defined daily dose per 1000 inhabitants per day) in this ***: Clarithromycin resistance is the main reason for the failure of 7-d triple therapy. In populations with low levels of resistance,a 7-d triple therapy is a viable choice. The choice of therapy should not be influenced by conditions in high antibiotic resistance regions.

AIM: To investigate whether transarterial chemoembolization(TACE) before liver transplantation(LT) improves long-term survival in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) ***: A retrospective study was conducted among 204 patients with HCC who received LT from January 2002 to December 2010 in PLA General Hospital. Among them, 88 patients received TACE before LT. Prognostic factors of serum α-fetoprotein(AFP), intraoperative blood loss, intraoperative blood transfusion, disease-free survival time, survival time with tumor, number of tumor nodules, tumor size, tumor number, presence of blood vessels and bile duct invasion, lymph node metastasis, degree of tumor differentiation, and preoperative liver function were determined in accordance with the Child-TurcottePugh(Child) classification and model for end-stage liver disease. We also determined time of TACE before transplant surgery and tumor recurrence and metastasis according to different organs. Cumulative survival rate and disease-free survival rate curves were prepared using the Kaplan-Meier method, and the logrank and χ2 tests were used for ***: In patients with and without TACE before LT, the 1, 3 and 5-year cumulative survival rate was 70.5% ± 4.9% vs 91.4% ± 2.6%, 53.3% ± 6.0% vs 83.1% ± 3.9%, and 46.2% ± 7.0% vs 80.8% ± 4.5%, respectively. The median survival time of patients with and without TACE was 51.857 ± 5.042 mo vs 80.930 ± 3.308 mo(χ2 = 22.547, P 01, P before LT were 62.3% ± 5.2% vs98.9% ± 3.0%, 48.7% ± 6.7% vs 82.1% ± 4.1%, and 48.7% ± 6.7% vs 82.1% ± 4.1%, respectively. The median survival time of patients with and without TACE before LT was 50.386 ± 4.901 mo vs 80.281 ± 3.216 mo(χ2 = 22.063, P 01, P before LT can easily lead to pulmonary or distant metastasis of the primary tumor. The H5N1 avian influenza virus (AIV) has widely spread in Asia, Europe and Africa, making a large amount of economic loss. Recently, our research group has screened a common neutralizing mono- clonal antibody named 8H5, which can neutralize almost all H5 subtype AIV ever isolated so far. Obvi- ously, this monoclonal antibody would benefit for research and development of the universal AIV vac- cine and design of the drug against H5N1 AIV in high mutation rate. In this study, the homology mod- eling was applied to generate the 3D structure of 8H5 Fab fragment, and "canonical structure" method was used to define the specified loop conformation of CDR regions. The model was subjected to en- ergy minimization in cvff force field with Discovery module in Insight II program. The resulting model has correct stereochemistry as gauged from the Ramachandran plot calculation and good 3D-structure compatibility as assessed by interaction energy analysis, solvent accessible surface (SAS) analysis, and Profiles-3D approach. Furthermore, the 8H5 Fab model was subjected to docking with three H5 subtype hemagglutinin (HA) structures deposited in PDb (ID No: 1jsm, 2ibx and 2fk0) respectively. The result indicates that the three docked complexes share a common binding interface, but differ in bind- ing angle related with HA structure similarity between viral subtypes. In the light of the three HA inter- faces with structural homology analysis, the common neutralizing epitope on HA recognized by 8H5 consists of 9 incontinuous amino acid residues: Asp68, Asn72, Glu112, Lys113, Ile114, Pro118, Ser120, Tyr137, Tyr252 (numbered as for 1jsm sequence). The primary purpose of the present work is to provide some insight into structure and binding details of a common neutralizing epitope of H5N1 AIV, thereby aiding in the structure-based design of universal AIV vaccines and anti-virus therapeutic drugs.

The effect of Ce/La misch metal addition on the microstructural evolution of as-cast and as-soluted Mg-5.3Zn-0.5Ca（wt.%） alloys was systematically investigated. It was found that Ce/La could effectively refine the as-cast alloy and restrain grain growth during solution treatment, which was derived from the constitutional supercooling during solidification process and the formation of stable intermetallic compounds Ce Mg12 and Mg17La2. Furthermore, Ce/La microalloying and solution treatment resulted in an evolution from the original lamellar Ca2Mg6Zn3/α-Mg to the divorced eutectic structure. The thermal stability of Mg-Zn-Ca alloy could be effectively improved by Ce/La addition, because the low-melting-point binary Mg-Zn phase was transformed to Mg x Zn y-Ca-（Ce/La） phase with higher thermal stability and the amount of Ca2Mg6Zn3/α-Mg eutectic structure was reduced.

The equilibrium, kinetics and thermodynamics of the adsorption of methylene blue( Mb) from aqueous solution onto copper coordination polymer with dithiooxamide( H2dtoaCu),one of the metal-organic frameworks( MOFs),were investigated in a batch adsorption system as a function of initial pH, adsorbent concentration, contact time, initial dye concentration, and temperature. The Langmuir, Freundlich, and DubininRadushkevich( D-R) isotherm models were used for modeling the adsorption equilibrium. It was found that Langmuir model yielded a much better fit than the Freundlich model under different temperatures. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacities of Mb were 192. 98,229. 86,and 297. 38 mg /g at 298,308,and 318 K,respectively. The calculated mean adsorption energy( 8. 26-11. 04 kJ /mol) using D-R model indicated that the adsorption process might take place by chemical adsorption ***,the kinetic studies revealed that the adsorption process could be well explained by pseudo-second-order rate kinetics and intraparticle diffusion was not the rate-limiting *** studies indicated that this system was feasible,spontaneous,and endothermic process. based on these studies,H2dtoaCu can be considered as a potential adsorbent for the removal of Mb from aqueous solution.
