Structural effects of sulfonamides on the proliferation dynamics of sulfonamide resistance genes in the sequencing batch reactors and the mechanism

Antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)can be easily promoted by antibiotics,however,the structural effects of antibiotics on the proliferation of ARGs dynamic and the associated mechanisms remain obscure in,especially,activated sludge sequencing batch reactors.In the present study,the effects of 9 sulfonamides(SAs)with different structures on the proliferation dynamic of sulfonamide resistance genes(Suls)in the activated sludge sequencing batch reactors and the corresponding mechanisms were determined(30 days),and the results showed that the largest proliferation value(ΔA^(R))of Suls dynamic for SAs(sulfachloropyridazine)was approximately 2.9 times than that of the smallest one(sulfadiazine).The proliferation of Suls was significantly related to the structural features(minHBint6,SssNH,SHBd and SpMax2_Bhm)that represent the biological activity of SAs.To interpret the phenomenon,a mechanistic model was developed and the results indicated that the biodegradation of SAs(T_(1/2))rather than conjugative transfer frequency or mutation frequency tends to be the key process for affecting Suls proliferation.T_(1/2)was proved to be dependent on the interactions between SAs and receptors(E_(binding)),the cleavage mode(bond dissociation energy),and the site of nucleophilic assault.Besides,the metagenomic analysis showed that SAs posed significant effect on antibiotic resistome and Tnp31 played a vital role in the proliferation of Suls.Overall,our findings provide important insight into a theoretical basis for understanding the structural effects of SAs on the proliferation of ARGs in SBR systems.

china faces a disproportionate cancer burden to the population size and is undergoing a transition in the cancer spectrum.We extracted data in five aspects of cancer incidence,mortality,survival,staging distributions,and attribution to risk factors in china,the USA and worldwide from open-source databases.We conducted a comprehensive secondary analysis of cancer profiles in china in the above aspects,and compared cancer statistics between china and the USA.A total of 4,546,400 new cancer cases and 2,992,600 deaths occurred in china in 2020,accounting for 25.1%and 30.2%of global cases,respectively.Lifestyle-related cancers including lung cancer,colorectal cancer,and breast cancer showed an upward trend and have been the leading cancer types in china.41.6%of new cancer cases and 49.3%of cancer deaths occurred in digestive-system cancers in china,and the cancers of esophagus,nasopharynx,liver,and stomach in china accounted for over 40%of global cases.Infection-related cancers showed the highest population-attributable fractions among Chinese adults,and most cancers could be attributed to behavioral and metabolic factors.The proportions of stage I for most cancer types were much higher in the USA than in china,except for esophageal cancer(78.2%vs.41.1%).The 5-year relative survival rates in china have improved substantially during 2000–2014,whereas survival for most cancer types in the USA was significantly higher than in china,except for upper gastrointestinal cancers.Our findings suggest that although substantial progress has been made in cancer control,especially in digestive system cancers in china,there was still a considerable disparity in cancer burden between china and the USA.More robust policies on risk factors and standardized screening practices are urgently warranted to curb the cancer growth and improve the prognosis for cancer patients.

Geckos can efficiently navigate complex terrains due to their multi-level adhesive system that is present on their toes.The setae are responsible for the gecko’s extraordinary adhesion and have garnered wide attention from the scientific community.The majority of the reported works in the literature that have dealt with the peeling models mainly focus on the gecko hierarchical adhesive system,with limited attention given to investigating the influence of gecko toe structure on the detachment.Along these lines,to gain a deeper understanding of the rapid and effortless detachment abilities of gecko toes,the peeling behavior of gecko toes on vertical surfaces was primarily investigated in this work.More specifically,the detachment time of a single toe on a smooth acrylic plate was measured to be 0.41±0.21 s.Moreover,it was observed that the toe assumed a"U"-shaped structure upon complete detachment.Additionally,Finite Element Analysis(FEA)models for three different types of gecko toes were developed to simulate both the displacement-peel and the moment-peel modes.Increasing the segmentation of the adhesive layer led to a gradual decrease in the resultant force,as well as the normal and tangential components.Lastly,a gecko-inspired toe model was constructed and powered by Shape Memory Alloy(SMA).A systematic comparison between the vertical drag separation and the outward flip separation was also conducted.From our analysis,it was clearly demonstrated that outward peel separation significantly necessitated the reduction of the peeling force,thus confirming the advantageous nature of the outward motion in gecko toe detachment.Our data not only contribute to a deeper understanding of the gecko detachment behavior but also offer valuable insights for the advancement of the wall-climbing robot feet.

LiNi_(0.5)Mn_(1.5)O_(4)(LNMO)with a spinel crystal structure presents a compelling avenue towards the development of economic cobalt-free and high voltage(~5 V)lithium-ion batteries.Nevertheless,the elevated operational voltage of LNMO gives rise to pronounced interfacial interactions between the distorted surface lattices characterized by Jahn-Teller(J-T)distortions and the electrolyte constituents.Herein,a localized crystallized coherent LaNiO_(3) and surface passivated Li_(3)PO_(4) layer is deposited on LNMO via a one-step calcination process.As evidenced by transmission electron microscopy(TEM),time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry(ToF-SIMS)and density functional theory(DFT)calculation,the epitaxial growth of LaNiO_(3) along the LNMO lattice can effectively stabilize the structure and inhibit irreversible phase transitions,and the Li_(3)PO_(4) surface coating can prevent the chemical reaction between HF and transition metals without sacrificing the electrochemical activity.In addition,the ionic conductive Li_(3)PO_(4) and atomic wetting inter-layer enables fast charge transfer transport property.Consequently,the LNMO material enabled by the lattice bonding and surface passivating features,demonstrates high performance at high current densities and good capacity retention during long-term test.The rational design of interface coherent engineering and surface coating layers of the LNMO cathode material offers a new perspective for the practical application of high-voltage lithium-ion batteries.

By adjusting the coordination environment of single-atom catalysts,the enzyme-like activity can be finely tuned for highly sensitive biosensing.Herein,we demonstrated that coordinatively unsaturated cobalt-nitrogen sites doped within porous carbon(SA-CoN_(3))could serve as highly efficient oxidase mimic.Compared with the typical planar four-coordination structure(SA-CoN_(4)),the as-obtained single-atom Co nanozymes anchored by three nitrogen atoms are found to display much higher oxidase-like catalytic efficiency.Combined theoretical and experimental analysis revealed that the coordinatively unsaturated Co sites could facilitate adsorption and activation of O_(2) molecule and thus improve their oxidase-like activity.Based on the enhanced oxidase-like activity of SA-CoN_(3),a paper/smartphone sensor for organophosphorus pesticides(OPs)was successfully constructed and used to quantify glyphosate in environmental and food samples with a low detection limit of 0.66μM.This work not only highlights the important role of coordination unsaturation of SA nanozymes for promoting oxidase-like activity,but also provides an easy and cost-effective way to conduct effective quantification of OPs in the field.

The emergence of software-defined vehicles(SDVs),combined with autonomous driving technologies,has en-abled a new era of vehicle computing(VC),where vehicles serve as a mobile computing platform.However,the interdisci-plinary complexities of automotive systems and diverse technological requirements make developing applications for au-tonomous vehicles challenging.To simplify the development of applications running on SDVs,we propose a comprehen-sive suite of vehicle programming interfaces(VPIs).In this study,we rigorously explore the nuanced requirements for ap-plication development within the realm of VC,centering our analysis on the architectural intricacies of the Open Vehicu-lar Data Analytics Platform(OpenVDAP).We then detail our creation of a comprehensive suite of standardized VPIs,spanning five critical categories:Hardware,Data,Computation,Service,and Management,to address these evolving pro-gramming requirements.To validate the design of VPIs,we conduct experiments using the indoor autonomous vehicle,Ze-bra,and develop the OpenVDAP prototype system.By comparing it with the industry-influential AUTOSAR interface,our VPIs demonstrate significant enhancements in programming efficiency,marking an important advancement in the field of SDV application development.We also show a case study and evaluate its performance.Our work highlights that VPIs significantly enhance the efficiency of developing applications on VC.They meet both current and future technologi-cal demands and propel the software-defined automotive industry toward a more interconnected and intelligent future.

Cerium oxide inclusion nucleation mechanism based on classical nucleation theory and two-step nucleation

It is challenging to assess the mechanism responsible for the nucleation of inclusions in metals at high temperatures.The present work therefore systematically investigates the nucleation of cerium oxide inclusions according to classical nucleation theory and a two-step nucleation mechanism.The nucleation rates and nucleation radii of these inclusions are obtained,and the results demonstrate a considerable difference between theoretical and experimental values.On the basis of a two-step nucleation mechanism,(CeO_(2))_(n) and(Ce_(2)O_(3))_(n)(n=1-6)clusters were constructed and the thermodynamic properties of both these clusters and of cerium oxide nanoparticles were analyzed.In addition,the entropies and heat capacity changes of cerium oxides were determined using first principles calculations and are found to be consistent with literature data.The present data indicate that the cerium oxide inclusion nucleation pathway can be summarized as[Ce]+[O]→(CeO_(2))n/(Ce_(2)O_(3))_(n)→(Ce_(2)O_(3))_(n)→(Ce_(2)O_(3))_(2)→core(Ce_(2)O_(3)crystal)-shell((Ce_(2)O_(3))_(2) cluster)nanoparticles→(Ce_(2)O_(3))bulk.

This work investigated the gradient microstructure evolution and tensile property of LPBF fabricated 15-5 precipitation hardening stainless steel in post-process direct ageing(DA)and solution treating&ageing(STA).The varied microstructures for austenite and small-sized oxide inclusions at different sample heights in the as-built(AB)condition was generally preserved after DA treatment.However,austenite was almost disappeared,and oxide particle grew significantly after the STA treatment.As a result,the tensile property differences in sample top and bottom for AB and DA conditions did not occur in the STA samples.For the influence of post-process heat treatment,the STA condition had the highest yield strength due to the highest volume fraction of nano-sized Cu precipitates.However,the DA specimen had the highest ultimate tensile strength and elongation owing to the considerable amount of austenite phase and associated transformation induced plasticity effect.

Highly robust zinc metal anode directed by organic–inorganic synergistic interfaces for wearable aqueous zinc battery

Flexible aqueous zinc batteries(FAZBs)with high safety and environmental friendliness are promising smart power sources for smart wearable electronics.However,the bare zinc anode usually suffers from damnable dendrite growth and rampant side reaction on the surface,greatly impeding practical applications in FAZBs.Herein,a composite polymer interface layer is artificially self‐assembled on the surface of the zinc anode by graft‐modified fluorinated monomer(polyacrylic acid‐2‐(Trifluoromethyl)propenoic acid,PAA‐TFPA),on which an organic–inorganic hybrid(PAA‐Zn/ZnF2)solid electrolyte interface(SEI)with excellent ionic conductivity is formed by interacting with Zn2+.Both the pouch cell and fiber zinc anode exhibit excellent plating/stripping reversibility after protecting by this organic–inorganic SEI,which can be stably cycled more than 3000 h in symmetric Zn||Zn cells or 550 h in fiber Zn||Zn cells.Additionally,this interface layer preserves zinc anode with excellent mechanical durability under various mechanical deformation(stably working for another 1200 h after bending 100 h).The corresponding PAA‐Zn/ZnF2@Zn||MnO2 full cell displays an ultra‐long life span(79%capacity retention after 3000 cycles)and mechanical robustness(85%of the initial capacity for another 3000 cycles after bending 100 times).More importantly,the as‐assembled cells can easily power smart wearable devices to monitor the user's health condition.
