Factors Influencing Cities’ Publishing Efficiency

Purpose： Recently, a vast number of scientific publications have been produced in cities in emerging countries. It has long been observed that the publication output of Beijing has exceeded that of any other city in the world, including such leading centres of science as Boston, New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo. Researchers have suggested that, instead of focusing on cities＇ total publication output, the quality of the output in terms of the number of highly cited papers should be examined. However, in the period from 2014 to 2016, Beijing produced as many highly cited papers as Boston, London, or New York. In this paper, another method is proposed to measure cities＇ publishing performance by focusing on cities＇ publishing efficiency （i.e., the ratio of highly cited articles to all articles produced in that city）.Design/methodology/approach： First, 554 cities are ranked based on their publishing efficiency, then some general factors influencing cities＇ publishing efficiency are revealed. The general factors examined in this paper are as follows： the linguistic environment of cities, cities＇ economic development level, the location of excellent organisations, cities＇ international collaboration patterns, and their scientific field profile. Furthermore, the paper examines the fundamental differences between the general factors influencing the publishing efficiency of the top 100 most efficient cities and the bottom 100 least efficient ***： Based on the research results, the conclusion can be drawn that a city＇s publishing efficiency will be high if meets the following general conditions： it is in a country in the Anglosphere-Core; it is in a high-income country; it is home to top-ranked universities and/ or world-renowned research institutions; researchers affiliated with that city most intensely collaborate with researchers affiliated with cities in the United States, Germany, England, France, Canada, Australia, and Italy; and the most productive scient

Loco-regional recurrences and distant metastases represent the main cause of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HNSCC) mortality. The overexpression of chemokine receptor 4(CXCR4) in HNSCC primary tumors associates with higher risk of developing loco-regional recurrences and distant metastases, thus making CXCR4 an ideal entry pathway for targeted drug delivery. In this context, our group has generated the self-assembling protein nanocarrier T22-GFP-H6, displaying multiple T22 peptidic ligands that specifically target CXCR4. This study aimed to validate T22-GFP-H6 as a suitable nanocarrier to selectively deliver cytotoxic agents to CXCR4^(+)tumors in a HNSCC model. Here we demonstrate that T22-GFP-H6 selectively internalizes in CXCR4^(+)HNSCC cells, achieving a high accumulation in CXCR4^(+)tumors in vivo, while showing negligible nanocarrier distribution in non-tumor bearing organs. Moreover, this T22-empowered nanocarrier can incorporate bacterial toxin domains to generate therapeutic nanotoxins that induce cell death in CXCR4-overexpressing tumors in the absence of histological alterations in normal organs. Altogether, these results show the potential use of this T22-empowered nanocarrier platform to incorporate polypeptidic domains of choice to selectively eliminate CXCR4^(+)cells in HNSCC. Remarkably, to our knowledge, this is the first study testing targeted proteinonly nanoparticles in this cancer type, which may represent a novel treatment approach for HNSCC patients.

The aim of the present study was to find the relation between mineral composition of human hair and illnesses such as infections of the respiratory system,asthma,vertigo,migraine,nervousness,hair loss,dandruff,brittle fingernails and white spots on *** mineral content of human hair was determined by multielemental analysis using ICP-OES and *** about the health condition of the examined subjects was obtained by *** was found that the hair of individuals who currently suffered from infections of the respiratory system or who had asthma had higher Zr content,the hair of sufferers of vertigo had a lower Ca,La and Sr content and in the hair of migraine sufferers the W content was higher than in the hair of healthy *** level of K in the hair of nervous people was three times higher than in hair of people who never suffered from *** who complained of hair loss had an increased level of Cu in the *** individuals with dandruff,brittle fingernails and white spots on fingernails,the content of Ca and La in the hair was higher than in the hair of individuals who did not suffer from any of these *** results of this study indicate that the metal content in hair could be used in the diagnosis of some common illnesses.

PM_(1)0 samples were collected from an urban/industrial site nearby Athens,where uncontrolled burning activities ***,monocarboxylic,dicarboxylic,hydroxycarboxylic and aromatic acids,tracers from BVOC oxidation,biomass burning tracers and bisphenol A were ***,monocarboxylic acids,biomass burning tracers and bisphenol A were increased during autumn/winter,while BSOA tracers,dicarboxylic-and hydroxycarboxylic acids during *** aromatic acids,different sources and formation mechanisms were indicated as benzoic,phthalic and trimellitic acids were peaked during summer whereas p-toluic,isophthalic and terephthalic were more abundant during autumn/*** Benzo[a]pyrene-equivalent carcinogenic power,carcinogenic and mutagenic activities were calculated showing significant(p<0.05)increases during the colder ***,succinic and malic acids were the most abundant monocarboxylic,dicarboxylic and hydrocarboxylic acids during the entire sampling *** oxidation was the most significant contributor to BSOA as the isoprene-SOA compounds were two times more abundant than the pinene-SOA(13.4±12.3 and 6.1±2.9 ng/m^3,respectively).Ozone has significant impact on the formation of many studied compounds showing significant correlations with:isoprene-SOA(r=0.77),hydrocarboxylic acids(r=0.69),pinene-SOA(r=0.63),dicarboxylic acids(r=0.58),and the sum of phthalic,benzoic and trimellitic acids(r=0.44).PCA demonstrated five factors that could explain sources including plastic enriched waste burning(30.8%),oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids(23.0%),vehicle missions and cooking(9.2%),biomass burning(7.7%)and oxidation of VOCs(5.8%).The results highlight the significant contribution of plastic waste uncontrolled burning to the overall air quality degradation.

A novel computational methodology for large-scale screening of MOFs is applied to gas storage with the use of machine learning *** approach is a promising trade-off between the accuracy of ab initio methods and the speed of classical approaches,strategically combined with chemical *** results demonstrate that the chemical properties of MOFs are indeed predictable(stochastically,not deterministically)using machine learning methods and automated analysis protocols,with the accuracy of predictions increasing with sample *** initial results indicate that this methodology is promising to apply not only to gas storage in MOFs but in many other material science projects.

The female internal sex organs develop from the paramesonephric （Mullerian） duct. In male embryos, the regression of the Mullerian duct is caused by the anti-Mullerian hormone （AMH）, which plays an important role in the process of testicular descent. The physiological remnant of the Mullerian duct in males is the appendix testis （AT）. In our previous study, we presented evidence for the decreased incidence of AT in cryptorchidism with intraoperative surgery. In this report, the expression of the anti-Mullerian hormone receptor type 2 （AMHR2）, the specific receptor of AMH, on the AT was investigated in connection with different urological disorders, such as hernia inguinalis, torsion of AT, cysta epididymis, varicocele, hydrocele testis and various forms of undescended testis. The correlation between the age of the patients and the expression of the AMHR2 was also examined. Reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR） and immunohistochemistry were used to detect the receptor＇s mRNA and protein levels, respectively. We demonstrate that AMHR2 is expressed in the ATs. Additionally, the presence of this receptor was proven at the mRNA and protein levels. The expression pattern of the receptor correlated with neither the examined urological disorders nor the age of the patients; therefore, the function of the AT remains obscure.

China's Global Shipping Connectivity:Internal and External Dynamics in the Contemporary Era(1890–2016)

China's global shipping connectivity had been somewhat overlooked as the bulk of related studies predominantly focused on the throughput volume of its own port cities. This article tackles such lacunae by providing a relational perspective based on the extraction of vessel movement archives from the Lloyd's List corpus. Two complementary analyses are proposed: long-term dynamics with all ships included(1890–2008) and medium-term dynamics focusing on container flows(1978–2016). Each analysis examines China's maritime connectivity in various ways and on different spatial scales, from the global to the local, in terms of concentration, vulnerability, and expansion. The main results underline the influence of technological, economic, and political factors on the changing distribution of connectivity internally and externally. In particular, China has managed to reduce its dependence upon external transit hubs, to increase the internal connectivity of its own port system, and to strengthen its dominance towards an increasing number of foreign nodes and trade partners through the maritime network.
