Catalyst design and structure control for photocatalytic refineries of cellulosic biomass to fuels and chemicals

Lignocellulosic biomass is the largest renewable hydrocarbon resource on *** cellulose,one of the major components of lignocellulose,powered by solar energy is a promising way of providing lowcarbon-footprint energy chemicals such as H_(2),HCOOH,CO,and transportation ***-of-the-art biorefineries target the full use of biomass feedstocks as they have a maximum collection radius of 75-100 km,requesting efficient and selective photocatalysts that significantly influence the outcome of photocatalytic ***-performed photocatalysts can harvest a broad solar spectrum and are active in breaking the chemical bonds of cellulose,decreasing the capital investments of ***,photocatalysts should control the selectivity of cellulose conversion,originating target products to level down separation *** separation in photocatalysts and interfacial charge transfer between photocatalysts and cellulose affect the activity and selectivity of cellulose refineries to H2 and carbonaceous *** account for the challenges above,this review summarizes photocatalysts for the refineries of cellulose and downstream platform molecules based on the types of products,with the structure features of different types of photocatalysts discussed in relation to the targets of either improving the activity or product *** addition,this review also sheds light on the methods for designing and regulating photocatalyst structures to facilitate photocatalytic refineries of cellulose and platform molecules,meanwhile summarizing proposed future research challenges and opportunities for designing efficient photocatalysts.

Clean production of lactic acid by selective carbon-carbon bond cleavage of biomass feedstock over a novel carbon-bismuth oxychloride photocatalyst

The use of functional materials such as carbon-bismuth oxyhalides in integrated photorefineries for the clean production of fine chemicals requires restructuring.A facile biomass-assisted solvothermal fabrication of carbon/bismuth oxychloride nanocomposites(C/BiOCl)was achieved at various *** with BiOCl and C/BiOCl-120,C/BiOCl-180 exhibited higher crystallinity,wider visible light absorption,and a faster migration/separation rate of photoinduced *** the selective C–C bond cleavage of biomass-based feedstocks photocatalyzed by C/BiOCl-180,the xylose conversion and lactic acid yield were 100%and 92.5%,respectively.C/BiOCl-180 efficiently converted different biomass-based monosaccharides to lactic acid,and the efficiency of pentoses was higher than that of ***,lactic acid synthesis was favored by all active radicals including superoxide ion(·O_(2)^(−)),holes(h^(+)),hydroxyl radical(·OH),and singlet oxygen(^(1)O_(2)),with·O_(2)^(−)playing a key *** fabricated photocatalyst was stable,economical,and *** use of biomass-derived monosaccharides for the clean production of lactic acid via the C/BiOCl-180 photocatalyst has opened new research horizons for the investigation and application of C–C bond cleavage in biomass-based feedstocks.

Protective Graphite Coating for Two-Dimensional Carbon/Carbon Composites

Two-dimensional carbon/carbon(2D C/C)composites are a special class of carbon/carbon composites,generally obtained by combining resin-impregnated carbon fiber clothes,which are then cured and *** study deals with the preparation of a protective coating for these *** coating,based on graphite,was prepared by the slurry *** effect of graphite and phenolic resin powders with different weight ratios was *** results have shown that the coating slurry can fill the pores and cracks of the composite surface,thereby densifying the surface layer of the *** the increase of the graphite powder/phenolic resin weight ratio,the coating density is enhanced while the coating surface flatness decreases;moreover,the protective ability of coating against erosion first increases(from 1:3 to 2:2)and then decreases(from 2:2 to 3:1).When the weight ratio is about 1:1,the coating for 2D C/C composites exhibits the best erosion resistance,which greatly aids these materials during gas *** this case,the erosion rate is decreased by approximately 41.5%at the impact angle of 30°and 52.3%at normal impact,*** can be attributed to the ability of the coating slurry to infiltrate into the substrate,thereby bonding the fibers together and increasing the compactness of the 2D C/C composites.

Laser ablation is an important process during Laser-Assisted Grinding(LAG)of hard and brittle *** realize controllable material removal during laser ablation of RB-SiC composites,ablation experiments under different Laser Energy Density(LAED)and LAG experiments are *** rules and mechanism of physical phase,ablation morphology and crack characteristics caused by laser irradiation are *** forces of LAG and Conventional Grinding(CG)are *** results show that ablation surface changes from slight oxidation to obvious material removal with LAED increasing,and ablation depth increases *** ablation products change from submicron SiO_(2)particles to nanoscale particles and *** LAED promotes SiC decomposition and sublimation,which leads to the increase of C *** SiC phase forms corrugated shape in recast layer and columnar shape in Heat Affected Zone(HAZ)at 56 J/mm^(2).The cold and heat cycle leads to formation of fishbone *** ablation specimen under 30 J/mm^(2),the grinding force can be reduced by a maximum of 39%and brittle damage region is *** material removal and microcrack generated will significantly reduce the hardness and improve machinability,which can promote grinding efficiency.

Transformation of long-period stacking ordered structures in Mg-Gd-Y-Zn alloys upon synergistic characterization of first-principles calculation and experiment and its effects on mechanical properties

Based on experiments and first-principles calculations,the microstructures and mechanical properties of as-cast and solution treated Mg-10Gd-4Y-xZn-0.6Zr(x=0,1,2,wt.%)alloys are *** transformation process of long-period stacking ordered(LPSO)structure during solidification and heat treatment and its effect on the mechanical properties of experimental alloys are *** reveal that the stacking faults and 18R LPSO phases appear in the as-cast Mg-10Gd-4Y-1Zn-0.6Zr and Mg-10Gd-4Y-2Zn-0.6Zr alloys,*** solution treatment,the stacking faults and 18R LPSO phase transform into 14H LPSO *** Enthalpies of formation and reaction energy of 14H and 18R LPSO are calculated based on *** show that the alloying ability of 18R is stronger than that of *** reaction energies show that the 14H LPSO phase is more stable than the 18R *** elastic properties of the 14H and 18R LPSO phases are also evaluated by first-principles calculations,and the results are in good agreement with the experimental *** precipitation of LPSO phase improves the tensile strength,yield strength and elongation of the *** solution treatment,the Mg-10Gd-4Y-2Zn-0.6Zr alloy has the best mechanical properties,and its ultimate tensile strength and yield strength are 278.7 MPa and 196.4 MPa,*** elongation of Mg-10Gd-4Y-2Zn-0.6Zr reaches 15.1,which is higher than that of Mg-10Gd-4Y0.6Zr *** improving mechanism of elastic modulus by the LPSO phases and the influence on the alloy mechanical properties are also analyzed.

high-voltage and fast-charging LiCoO_(2)(LCO)is key to high-energy/power-density Li-ion ***,unstable surface structure and unfavorable electronic/ionic conductivity severely hinder its high-voltage fast-charging ***,we construct a Li/Na-B-Mg-Si-O-F-rich mixed ion/electron interface network on the 4.65 V LCO electrode to enhance its rate capability and long-term cycling ***,the resulting artificial hybrid conductive network enhances the reversible conversion of Co^(3+)/^(4+)/O_(2)/nredox by the interfacial ion–electron cooperation and suppresses interface side reactions,inducing an ultrathin yet compact cathode electrolyte ***,the derived near-surface Na+/Mg2+/Si^(4+)-pillared local intercalation structure greatly promotes the Li^(+)diffusion around the 4.55 V phase transition and stabilizes the cathode ***,excellent 3 C(1 C=274 mA g1)fast charging performance is demonstrated with 73.8%capacity retention over 1000 *** findings shed new insights to the fundamental mechanism of interfacial ion/electron synergy in stabilizing and enhancing fast-charging cathode materials.

We consider a class of non-homogeneous ultraparabolic differential equations with singular drift terms arising from some physical models,and prove that weak solutions are H?lder continuous,which are sharp in some sense and also generalize the well-known De Giorgi-Nash-Moser theory to degenerate parabolic equations satisfying the H?rmander hypoellipticity *** new ingredients are manifested in two aspects:on the one hand,for lower-order terms,we exploit a new Sobolev inequality suitable for the Moser iteration by improving the result of Pascucci and Polidoro(2004);on the other hand,we explore the G-function from an early idea of Kruzhkov(1964)and an approximate weak Poincaréinequality for non-negative weak sub-solutions to prove the H?lder regularity.

planar Na ion micro-supercapacitors(NIMSCs) that offer both high energy density and power density are deemed to a promising class of miniaturized power sources for wearable and portable microelectron-ics. Nevertheless, the development of NIMSCs are hugely impeded by the low capacity and sluggish Na ion kinetics in the negative ***, we demonstrate a novel carbon-coated Nb_(2)O_5 microflower with a hierarchical structure composed of vertically intercrossed and porous nanosheets, boosting Na ion storage performance. The unique structural merits, including uniform carbon coating, ultrathin nanosheets and abun-dant pores, endow the Nb_(2)O_5 microflower with highly reversible Na ion storage capacity of 245 mAh g^(-1) at 0.25 C and excellent rate *** from high capacity and fast charging of Nb_(2)O_5 microflower, the planar NIMSCs consisted of Nb_(2)O_5 negative electrode and activated car-bon positive electrode deliver high areal energy density of 60.7 μWh cm^(-2),considerable voltage window of 3.5 V and extraordinary cyclability. Therefore, this work exploits a structural design strategy towards electrode materials for application in NIMSCs, holding great promise for flexible microelectronics.

Ultra-low reflection electromagnetic interference shielding nanofiber film with effective solar harvesting and self-cleaning

It is urgent to develop low-reflection electromagnetic interference shielding material to shield electromagnetic waves(EMW)and reduce their secondary radiation ***,an electromagnetic interference shielding nanofiber film is composed of ZnO and carbon nanofiber(CNF)via electrospinning and carbonization approachs,and subsequently coating perfuorooctyltriethoxysilane as a protective *** the one hand,ZnO coated by porous carbon,which is derived from ZIF-8,endows the nanofiber film low reflection property through optimizing impedance matching between free space and the nanofiber *** the other hand,the nanofiber film possesses high electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency,which is beneficial by excellent electrical conductivity of CNF derived from waste leather ***,the nanofiber film involves abundant interface,which contributes to high interfacial polarization ***,the nanofiber film with a thickness of 250 pm has electrical conductivity of 53 S/m and shielding efficiency of 50 *** reflection coefficient of the nanofiber film is inferior to 0.4 indicates that most of EMW are absorbed inside the materials and the nanofiber film is effective in reducing secondary radiation contamination of electromagnetic ***,the nanofiber film exhibits outstanding solar harvesting performance(106℃at 1 sun density)and good self-cleaning performance,which ensure that the nanofiber film can work in harsh *** work supplies a credible reference for fabricating low-reflection electromagnetic shielding nanofiber film to reduce secondary radiation pollution and facilitates the upcycling of waste leather scraps.
