Molecular characterization of three Hsp90 from Pieris and expression patterns in response to cold and thermal stress in summer and winter diapause of Pieris melete

Heat shock proteins （Hsps） have been linked to stresses and winter diapause in insects, but whether they are components of summer diapause is still unknown. In this study, complementary DNAs of lisp90 from Pieris melete, Pieris rapae and Pieris canidia named PmHsp90, PrHsp90 and PcHsp90, respectively, were cloned and sequenced. The deduced amino acid sequence consisted of 718 amino acid residues with a putative molecular mass of 82.6, 82.6 and 82.7 kDa, respectively. The amino acid sequences contained all of the five conserved signature motifs in the Hsp90 family and a bHLH protein folding activity region. The differential expression pattern of PmHsp90 in response to summer diapause and winter diapause, which are related to heat/cold stress, was investigated. Cold stress induced Hsp90 up-regulation in summer and winter diapause pupae, but not in non-diapause individuals. Heat shock up-regulated PmHsp90 gradually with an increase in temperature in summer diapause, and PmHsp90 was rapidly up-regulated in winter diapause. After 30 min heat shock at 39℃, substantial up-regulation of PmHsp90 transcript levels were observed both in summer and winter diapause. However, in non-diapause a relatively stable expression was found under different durations of 39℃ heat shock. Compared to the optimal treatment of 18℃ for diapause development, a high temperature acclimation of 31 ℃ induced PmHsp90 up-regulation in summer diapause, whereas a low temperature acclimation of 4℃ induced up-regulation in winter diapause. The current results indicate that Hsp90 may play an important role in response to heat/cold stress both in summer and winter diapause.

Electron Transport Coefficients and Effective Ionization Coefficients in SF_6-O_2 and SF_6-Air Mixtures Using Boltzmann Analysis

The electron drift velocity, electron energy distribution function （EEDF）, densitynormalized effective ionization coefficient and density-normalized longitudinal diffusion velocity are calculated in SF6-O2 and SFs-Air mixtures. The experimental results from a pulsed Townsend discharge are plotted for comparison with the numerical results. The reduced field strength varies from 40 Td to 500 Td （1 Townsend=10-17 ***2） and the SF6 concentration ranges from 10% to 100%. A Boltzmann equation associated with the two-term spherical harmonic expansion approximation is utilized to gain the swarm parameters in steady-state Townsend. Results show that the accuracy of the Boltzlnann solution with a two-term expansion in calculating the electron drift velocity, electron energy distribution function, and density-normalized effective ionization coefficient is acceptable. The effective ionization coefficient presents a distinct relationship with the SF6 content in the mixtures. Moreover, the E/Ncr values in SF6-Air mixtures are higher than those in SF6-O2 mixtures and the calculated value E/Ncr in SF6-O2 and SF6-Air mixtures is lower than the measured value in SFB-N2. Parametric studies conducted on these parameters using the Boltzmann analysis offer substantial insight into the plasma physics, as well as a basis to explore the ozone generation process.

Dynamic Characteristics of Positive Pulsed Dielectric Barrier Discharge for Ozone Generation in Air

A comprehensive dynamic model consisting of 66 reactions and 24 species is developed to investigate the dynamic characteristics of ozone generation by positive pulsed dielectric barrier discharge（DBD） using parallel-plate reactor in *** electron energy conservation equation is coupled to the electron continuity equation,the heavy species continuity equation,and Poisson＇s equation for a better *** reliability of the model is experimentally *** model can be used to predict the temporal and spatial evolution of species,as well as streamer *** simulation results show that electron density increases nearly exponentially in the direction to the anode at the electron *** propagation velocity is about 5.26×104m/s from anode to cathode in the simulated *** primary positive ion,negative ion,and excited species are O_2~＋,O_3^-and O_2（1？g） in pulsed DBD in air,respectively.N_2 O has the largest density among nitrogen oxides.e and N_2~＋densities in the streamer head increase gradually to maximum values with the development of the ***,the O_2~＋,O,O_3,N_2（A^3Σ） and N_2 O densities reach maximum values in the vicinity of the anode.

BACKGROUND In rare instances,primary liver cancer can be associated with intraocular metastasis(IOM).AIM To investigate the correlation between a diverse range of clinical characteristics and IOM in diabetic patients with primary liver cancer,and to determine potential risk factors in predicting *** We recruited a total of 722 diabetic patients with primary liver *** differences between the IOM and non-intraocular metastasis(NIOM)groups in these patients were assessed using the chi-squared test and Student’s *** logistic regression analysis was subsequently used to determine risk ***,the diagnostic value of IOM in this cohort with primary liver cancer was analyzed by receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve *** In all,13 patients had *** were no remarkable intergroup differences with respect to age,sex,histopathological sub-types,or blood biochemical ***,the IOM group had significantly higher alpha-fetoprotein(AFP)and cancer antigen 125(CA125)values than the NIOM *** logistic regression identified AFP and CA125 to be significant risk factors for IOM in diabetic patients with primary liver *** curve analysis showed that the area under the curve values for AFP and CA125 were 0.727 and 0.796,with the cut-off values of 994.20 ng/mL and 120.23 U/mL,*** sensitivity and specicity for AFP were 92.3%and 59.9%,while those for CA125 were 84.6%and 70.1%,*** Elevated AFP and CA125 represent significant risk factors for IOM in diabetic patients with primary liver cancer.

Density effect and intraspecific competition in a leaf-mining moth on bamboo leaves

When confined to a single leaf, the larvae of most leafminers should suffer intense intraspecific competition. The survival and performance of individuals are expected to decline with increasing larval density within a leaf, showing a negative density-dependent effect. The maximum density of an Elachista Treitschke(Lepidoptera:Elachistidae) miner on Indocalamus tessellatus(Munro)Keng f.(Poaceae: Bambusoideae) under natural conditions can be greater than 40 per leaf, making this a good system for studying intraspecific competition and density *** counted the number of leaves with different mine densities in the field and found a clumped distribution of leafminer larvae among host leaves. The emergence rates of pupae(and last-instar larvae), adults and parasitoids were inversely correlated with larval density. Pupal weight and adult weight also showed negative relationships with larval density. However, pairwise tests showed that there might be no differences in pupal or adult weight at larval densities of 1–10 mines per leaf, indicating that densitydependent effects are more obvious at densities greater than 10 mines per leaf. Intraspecific competition could lead to stable density and consistent body size in surviving individual insects, which would help maintain a sustainable population size. The density threshold could be an indicator of the balance between intraspecific competitive detriments and conspecific aggregation benefits; however, the validity of the threshold density hypothesis requires further testing and confirmation.

Effect of SF6 on Ozone Generation Using Dielectric Barrier Discharge

The influence mechanism of a small amount of SF6 on ozone generation in oxygen or air discharge is *** results are obtained by probing into the number of the high-energy electrons,which have the sufficiency energy for generating *** a small amount of SF6 into oxygen sharply decreases the number of high-energy electrons,because the electron density decreases sharply while the mean electron energy remains constant due to higher breakdown voltage and lower discharge power,and some high-energy electrons are consumed by the excitation and attachment of *** contrast,when a small amount of SF6 is added into dry air discharge,despite the consumption of the excitation and attachment of SF6,the number of high energy electrons increases sharply,which is attributed to the higher mean electron energy and electron density resulted from higher breakdown voltage and discharge *** the volume fraction of SF6 increases from 0 to 2.22%,the ozone mass concentration and the ozone yield increase by 45.7% and 29.7%,***,though the oxygen source should avoid the presence of SF6,adding a small amount of SF6 can improve the ozone mass concentration and the efficiency of ozone generation.

Process and kinetics of the selective extraction of cobalt from high-silicon low-grade cobalt ores using ammonia leaching

An ammonia-based system was used to selectively leach cobalt(Co)from an African high-silicon low-grade Co ore,and the other elemental impurities were inhibited from leaching in this *** process was simple and environmentally *** results revealed that the leaching ratio of Co can reach up to 95.61%using(NH_(4))_(2)SO_(4)as a leaching agent under the following materials and conditions:(NH_(4))_(2)SO_(4)concentration 300 g/L,reductant dosage 0.7 g,leaching temperature 353 K,reaction time 4 h,and liquid-solid ratio 6 mL/*** leaching kinetics of Co showed that the apparent activation energy of Co leaching was 76.07 kJ/mol(i.e.,in the range of 40-300 kJ/mol).This indicated that the leaching of Co from the Co ore was controlled by an interfacial chemical reaction,and then the developed leaching kinetics model of the Co can be expressed as 1-(1-α)^(1/3)=28.01×10~3×r_0^(-1)×C_((NH_(4))_(2)SO_(4))^(1.5)×exp(-76073/8.314 T)×t,whereαis the leaching ratio(%)of Co,r_0 is the average radius(m)of the Co ore particles,T is the temperature(K),and C_((NH_(4))_(2)SO_(4))is the initial reactant concentration(kg/m^(3)).

The as-cast Ti_(48)Zr_(27)Cu_(6)Nb_(5)Be_(14)bulk metallic glass matrix composites(BMGMCs)were fabricated using a copper mold suction casting ***,the semi-solid BMGMC samples were obtained following an isothermal treatment(heating at 900°C for 10 min,then cooling with water).The microstructure and compression property were investigated by scanning electronic microscopy(SEM)and universal mechanical *** a result of the isothermal treatment,the crystal shapes change from fine,granular,and dendritic to spherical or vermicular,and the average crystal size of the as-cast and semi-solid samples is 2.2μm and 18.1μm,*** plasticity increases from 5.31%in the as-cast to 10.23%in the semi-solid samples,with an increase of 92.66%.The shear bands from different areas of the side surfaces of as-cast and semisolid compression fracture samples were *** characteristic changes of multiplicity,bend,branch and intersection of shear bands in different areas indicate that the deformation of as-cast and semi-solid samples is non-uniform during *** is found that poor plasticity of the as-cast samples or good plasticity of the semi-solid samples are reflected by characteristics of the shear *** semi-solid isothermal treatment improves the plasticity by forming large crystals which can block the expansion of shear bands and promote the multiplicity of shear bands.
