Lately, there has been an increasing interest in intraspecific variation in behaviour, and numerous studies on personality have been performed in a variety of animals, including several fish species. Individuals have been divided into coping style categories or arranged along a behaviour gradient, such as the bold/shy continuum. However, many fish species live in groups, and the social environment can influence the behaviour of an animal in different ways. There may be conflicts within groups due to competition for resources, and dominance hierarchies are commonly found. On the other hand, there are many benefits of consensus decision-making within the group. Conformity of behaviour is probably adaptive, due to the benefit of public information on, for example, food resources and predation risk. Accordingly, studies of fish shoals have found evidence of consensus decision-making. Furthermore, factors in the environment, such as predation risk would also influence the behaviour expressed. To be able to understand behaviour patterns in a group of fish, it is necessary to consider the variation of individual characteristics, and how the group, as well as other environmental factors, affects the behaviour of individuals. Here, I will review studies on different aspects of personality within a social context in fish, with a special emphasis on the Eurasian perchPerca fluviatilis.

This paper investigates the dynamics of cooperative emissions in a cascade three-level system driven by an ultra, short laser pulse by solving numerically the full-wave Maxwell-Bloch equations. The 4, 4＇-bis（dimethylamino） stilbene molecule is used as the model molecule because of its strong two-photon absorption property. The two-colour cooperative emissions are studied as functions of molecular number density and dephasing rate of the dipole coherence. The propagation effects on the evolution of the cooperative radiations are also taken into account. The cooperative radiations are enhanced for large number density of the molecule, while the fast dephasing of the dipole coherence reduces the intensity of the cooperative radiations and delays the emission times or even inhibits the formation of the emissions. The delay time of the radiation decreases with the increase of the molecular number density and the propagation distance.

The heat capacity of ionic liquids is an important physical property,and experimental measuring is usually used as a common method to obtain *** to the huge number of ionic liquids that can be potentially synthesized,it is desirable to acquire theoretical *** this work,the Conductor-like Screening Model for Real Solvents(COSMO-RS)was used to predict the heat capacity of pure ionic liquids,and an intensive literature survey was conducted for providing a database to verify the prediction of *** survey shows that the heat capacity is available for 117 ionic liquids at temperatures ranging 77.66-520 K since 2004,and the 4025 data points in total with the values from 76.37 to 1484 J·mol^(-1)·K^(-1) have been *** prediction of heat capacity with COSMO-RS can only be conducted at two temperatures(298 and 323 K).The comparison with the experimental data proves the prediction reliability of COSMO-RS,and the average relative deviation(ARD)is 8.54%.Based on the predictions at two temperatures,a linear equation was obtained for each ionic liquid,and the heat capacities at other temperatures were then estimated via interpolation and *** acquired heat capacities at other temperatures were then compared with the experimental data,and the ARD is only 9.50%.This evidences that the heat capacity of a pure ionic liquid follows a linear equation within the temperature range of study,and COSMO-RS can be used to predict the heat capacity of ionic liquids reliably.

Sequential carbohydrate synthesis is important for plant survival because it guarantees energy supplies for growth and development during plant ontogeny and reproduction. Starch and fructan are two important carbohydrates in many flowering plants and in human diets. Understanding this coordinated starch and fructan synthesis and unraveling how plants allocate photosynthates and prioritize different carbohydrate synthesis for survival could lead to improvements to cereals in agriculture for the purposes of greater food security and production quality. Here, we report a system from a single gene in barley employing two alternative promoters, one intronic/exonic, to generate two sequence-overlapping but functionally opposing transcription factors, in sensing sucrose, potentially via sucrose/gluco lose 6-phosphate signaling. The system employs an autoregulatory mechanism in perceiving a sucrose- controlled trans activity on one promoter and orchestrating the coordinated starch and fructan synthesis by competitive transcription factor binding on the other promoter. As a case in point for the physiological roles of the system, we have demonstrated that this multitasking system can be exploited in breeding barley with tailored amounts of fructan to produce healthy food ingredients. The identification of an intron/exon-spanning promoter in a hosting gene, resulting in proteins with distinct functions, adds to the complexity of plant genomes.

The CO_(2)solubilities(including CO_(2)Henry’s constant)in physical-and chemical-based ILs/DESs and the COSMO-RS models describing these properties were comprehensively collected and *** summarized results indicate that chemical-based ILs/DESs are superior to physical-based ILs/DESs for CO_(2)capture,especially those ILs have functionalized cation and anion,and superbase DESs;some of the superbase DESs have higher CO_(2)solubilities than those of ILs;the best physical-and chemical-based ILs,as well as physical-and chemicalbased DESs are[BMIM][BF4](4.20 mol kg^(-1)),[DETAH][Im](11.91 mol kg^(-1)),[L-Arg]-Gly 1:6(4.92 mol kg^(-1))and TBD-EG 1:4(12.90 mol kg^(-1)),*** the original COSMO-RS mainly providing qualitative predictions,six corrected COSMO-RS models have been proposed to improve the prediction performance based on the experimental data,but only one model is with universal *** newly determined experimental results were further used to verify the perditions of original and corrected COSMO-RS *** comparison indicates that the original COSMO-RS qualitatively predicts CO_(2)solubility for some but not all ILs/DESs,while the quantitative prediction is incapable at *** original COSMO-RS is capable to predict CO_(2)Henry’s constant qualitatively for both physical-based ILs and DESs,and quantitative prediction is only available for *** the corrected COSMO-RS models,only the model with universal parameters provides quantitative predictions for CO_(2)solubility in physical-based DESs,while other corrected models always show large deviations(>83%)compared with the experimental CO_(2)Henry’s constants.

Problems associated with carbon support corrosion under operating fuel cell conditions require the identification of alternative supports for platinum-based nanosized *** supported on manganese vanadate(Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6))was prepared by microwave irradiation method and characterized using X-ray diffraction,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy,and transmission electron *** borohydride oxidation reaction(BOR)on Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) was studied in highly alkaline media using voltammetry,chronoamperometry,and electrochemical impedance *** electrocatalytic activity of Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) was also compared with that of commercial Pt/C(46 wt%Pt)*** apparent activation energy of BOR at Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) was estimated to be 32 k J mol^(-1) and the order of reaction to be 0.51,indicating that borohydride hydrolysis proceeds in parallel with its ***-term stability of Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) under BOR typical conditions was observed.A laboratory-scale direct borohydride fuel cell assembled with a Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) anode reached a specific power of 274 W g^(-1).Experimental results on Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) were complemented by DFT calculations,which indicated good adherence of Pt to MnV_(2)O_(6),beneficial for electrocatalyst stability.

Since selective detection of multiple narrow spectral bands in the near-infrared(NIR)region still poses a fundamental challenge,we have,in this work,developed NIR photodetectors(PDs)using photon upconversion nanocrystals(UCNCs)combined with perovskite *** conquer the relatively high pumping threshold of UCNCs,we designed a novel cascade optical field modulation strategy to boost upconversion luminescence(UCL)by cascading the superlensing effect of dielectric microlens arrays and the plasmonic effect of gold nanorods,which readily leads to a UCL enhancement by more than four orders of magnitude under weak light *** accommodating multiple optically active lanthanide ions in a core-shell-shell hierarchical architecture,developed PDs on top of this structure can detect three well-separated narrow bands in the NIR region,i.e.,those centered at 808,980,and 1540 *** to the large UCL enhancement,the obtained PDs demonstrate extremely high responsivities of 30.73,23.15,and 12.20 AW^(−1) and detectivities of 5.36,3.45,and 1.91×10^(11) Jones for 808,980,and 1540 nm light detection,respectively,together with short response times in the range of 80-120 ***,we demonstrate for the first time that the response to the excitation modulation frequency of a PD can be employed to discriminate the incident light *** believe that our work provides novel insight for developing NIR PDs and that it can spur the development of other applications using upconversion nanotechnology.
