Real-time detection network for tiny traffic sign using multi-scale attention module

As one of the key technologies of intelligent vehicles, traffic sign detection is still a challenging task because of the tiny size of its target object. To address the challenge, we present a novel detection network improved from yolo-v3 for the tiny traffic sign with high precision in real-time. First, a visual multi-scale attention module(MSAM), a light-weight yet effective module, is devised to fuse the multi-scale feature maps with channel weights and spatial masks. It increases the representation power of the network by emphasizing useful features and suppressing unnecessary ones. Second, we exploit effectively fine-grained features about tiny objects from the shallower layers through modifying backbone Darknet-53 and adding one prediction head to yolo-v3. Finally, a receptive field block is added into the neck of the network to broaden the receptive field. Experiments prove the effectiveness of our network in both quantitative and qualitative aspects. The m AP@0.5 of our network reaches 0.965 and its detection speed is55.56 FPS for 512 × 512 images on the challenging Tsinghua-Tencent 100 k(TT100 k) dataset.

Effect of Zn addition on microstructure and mechanical properties of as-cast Mg-2Er alloy

The effect of Zn addition on microstructure and mechanical properties of the Mg-2Er alloy was investigated by X-ray diffraction （XRD） and scanning electron microscope （SEM）. The results show that the alloys with 1%and 2%Zn （mass fraction） are composed of the W-phase and theα-Mg matrix. Meanwhile, the addition of 4%-10%Zn results in the formation of the I-phase, the W-phase and theα-Mg matrix. When the addition of Zn reaches 12%, the W-phase disappears and the phase constituents of the alloys mainly include the I-phase and the Mg4Zn7 phase besides theα-Mg solid solution. The alloy containing 6%Zn has better mechanical properties, of which the ultimate tensile strength （UTS） and the yield tensile strength （YTS） are about 224 MPa and 134 MPa, respectively, companying an elongation of 10.4%.

Load Rate of Facet Joints at the Adjacent Segment Increased After Fusion

Background： The cause of the adjacent segment degeneration （ASD） after fusion remains unknown. It is reported that adjacent facet joint stresses increase alter anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. This increase of stress rate may lead to tissue injury. Thus far, the load rate of the adjacent segment facet joint after fusion remains unclear. Methods： Six C2-C7 cadaveric spine specimens were loaded under tour motion modes： Flexion, extension, rotation, and lateral bending, with a pure moment using a 6° robot arm combined with an optical motion analysis system. The Tecscan pressure test system was used for testing facet joint pressure. Results： The contact mode of the facet joints and distributions of the force center during different motions were recorded. The adjacent segment facet joint forces increased faster after fusion, compared with intact conditions. While the magnitude of pressures increased, there was no difference in distribution modes before and after fusion. No pressures were detected during flexion. The average growth velocity during extension was the fastest and was significantly faster than lateral bending. Conclusions： One of the reasons for cartilage injury was the increasing stress rate of loading. This implies that ASD after fusion may be related to habitual movement before and after fusion. More and faster extension is disadvantageous for the facet joints and should be reduced as much as possible.

Night-time diastolic blood pressure variability relates to stroke recurrence in patients who had ischaemic stroke with small artery occlusion

Objective To evaluate the associations between the serum anion gap （AG） with the severity and prognosis of coronary artery disease （CAD）. Methods We measured serum electrolytes in 18,115 CAD patients indicated by coronary angiography. The serum AG was calculated according to the equation： AG = Na^＋ [（mmol/L）＋ K^＋（mmol/L）] - [Cl^- （mmol/L）＋ HCO3^- （mmol/L）]. Results A total of 4510 （24.9%） participants had their AG levels greater than 16 mmol/L. The serum AG was independently associated with measures of CAD severity, including more severe clinical types of CAD （P 〈 0.001） and worse cardiac function （P = 0.004）. Patients in the 4th quartile of serum AG （≥ 15.92 mmol/L） had a 5.171-fold increased risk of 30 days all-cause death （P 〈 0.001）. This association was robust, even after adjustment for age, sex, evaluated glomerular filtration rate [hazard ratio （HR）： 4.861, 95% confidence interval （CI）： 2.150–10.993, P 〈 0.001], clinical diagnosis, severity of coronary artery stenosis, cardiac function grades, and other confounders （HR： 3.318, 95% CI： 1.76–2.27, P = 0.009）. Conclusion In this large population-based study, our findings reveal a high percentage of increased serum AG in CAD. Higher AG is associated with more severe clinical types of CAD and worse cardiac function. Furthermore, the increased serum AG is an independent, significant, and strong predictor of all-cause mortality. These findings support a role for the serum AG in the risk-stratification of CAD.

BACKGROUND The role of uric acid(UA) in survival of patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy(HOCM) has not been fully evaluated. This study aimed to determine whether UA could be an independent risk factor of cardiac death in patients with *** A total of 317 patients with HOCM, who were receiving conservative treatment in Fuwai Hospital from October2009 to December 2014, all of them completed UA evaluations, were analyzed. Patients were divided into three groups according to the UA levels: Tertile 1(≤ 318 μmol/L, n = 106), Tertile 2(319 to 397 μmol/L, n = 105), and Tertile 3(≥ 398 μmol/L, n = 106).RESULTS During a median follow-up of 45 months, 29 cardiac deaths(9.1%) occurred, including 6 sudden cardiac deaths and23 heart failure-related deaths. Cardiac death in Tertile 3(n = 16, 55.2%) was significantly higher than in Tertile 1(n = 6, 20.7%)and Tertile 2(n = 7, 24.1%). In univariate model, UA level(continuous value) showed predictive value of cardiac death [hazard ratio(HR) = 1.006, 95% CI: 1.003-1.009, P = 0.009]. Univariate Cox survival analysis had shown a significant higher property of cardiac death in patients of Tertile 3 when compared with those of Tertile 1, but cardiac death in patients of Tertile 2 did not show significant prognositic value compared with those of Tertile 1(HR = 3.927, 95% CI: 0.666-23.162, P = 0.131). UA was found to be an independent risk factor(HR = 1.005, 95% CI: 1.001-1.009, P = 0.009) of cardiac death in the multivariate regression analysis after the adjustment for age, body mass index, atrial fibrillation, hemoglobin, creatinine, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, interventricular septum/left ventricular posterior wall ratio, left ventricular outflow tract and left ventricular ejection *** UA concentration was found to be independently associated with cardiac death in HOCM patients receiving conservative treatment. Randomized trials of UA-lowering agents for HOCM patients are warranted.

The implantable artificial hair was prepared by grafting collagen on the surface of poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET)to improve its *** acid(AAc)was used to modify the surface properties of PET firstly,and then collagen was grafted on the PET-AAc *** concentration of collagen solution was discussed to graft more collagen on PET *** were well characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).SEM indicated that collagen with about 3.07μm thickness was coated on PET surface when the concentration of collagen solution was 1.0 mg/m *** and XPS showed AAc and collagen were both on the surface of PET *** optimized concentration of collagen solution was 1.0 mg/m L,resulting in the most grafting density of 3.46μg/cm^(2).It can be concluded that a large amount of collagen is coated on PET surface.
