More Cycles of Intravenous Chemotherapy are Associated with Reduced Growth in Children with Retinoblastoma

Background Chemotherapy can have a negative impact on the growth of children with different ***,few studies have examined whether intravenous chemotherapy(IVC)affects the growth of children with retinoblastoma(RB).The present study evaluated the height differences(actual height compared to the age standardized value)and survival of pediatric RB patients treated with *** This was an observational cohort study.A total of 87 pediatric RB patients were *** study population was stratified into two groups based on the number of chemotherapy cycles administered(≤4 versus>4).The height at baseline(before IVC),height after IVC and overall survival were compared between the two *** Before IVC,no height differences were observed between the two groups(P=0.585).After IVC,all of the patients had a reduced height compared to the age standardized height(P=0.035).Patients who underwent more cycles of chemotherapy had a greater height difference compared to those who received fewer cycles(P=0.008).For those who had reduced height,the difference was positively associated with the number of chemotherapy cycles(r=0.279,P=0.043).Among the patients who exhibited a greater height difference,those who underwent more than four cycles of chemotherapy had a decreased overall survival(P=0.042).Conclusions Pediatric RB patients who underwent more cycles of chemotherapy were more likely to have a reduced *** studies are needed to determine the optimal treatment strategy to prevent the reduced growth while maintaining the benefits of chemotherapy.

Analysis of early treatment of multiple injuries combined with severe pelvic fracture

Purpose: To summarize and analyze the early treatment of multiple injuries combined with severe pelvic fractures, especially focus on the hemostasis methods for severe pelvic fractures, so as to improve the successful rate of rescue for the fatal hemorrhagic shock caused by pelvic fractures. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted in 68 cases of multiple trauma combined with severe pelvic fractures in recent 10 years (from Jan. 2006 to Dec. 2015). There were 57 males and 11 females. Their age ranged from 19 to 75 years, averaging 42 years. Causes of injury included traffic accidents in 34 cases (2 cases of truck rolling), high falling injuries in 17 cases, crashing injuries in 15 cases, steel cable wound in 1 case, and seat belt traction injury in 1 case. There were 31 cases of head injury, 11 cases of chest injury, 56 cases of abdominal and pelvic injuries, and 37 cases of spinal and limb injuries. Therapeutic methods included early anti-shock measures, surgical hemostasis based on internal iliac artery devasculization for pelvic hemorrhage, and early treatment for combined organ damage and complications included embolization and repair of the liver, spleen and kidney, splenectomy, nephrectomy, intestinal resection, colostomy, bladder ostomy, and urethral repair, etc. Patients in this series received blood transfusion volume of 1200e10,000 mL, with an average volume of 2850 mL. Postoperative followup ranged from 6 months to 1.5 years. Results: The average score of ISS in this series was 38.6 points. 49 cases were successfully treated and the total survival rate was 72.1%. Totally 19 patients died (average ISS score 42.4), including 6 cases of hemorrhagic shock, 8 cases of brain injury, 1 case of cardiac injury, 2 cases of pulmonary infection, 1 case of pulmonary embolism, and 1 case of multiple organ failure. Study of the numerical simulation of tight sandstone gas molecular diffusion based on digital core technology

Diffusion is an important mass transfer mode of tight sandstone gas. Since nano-pores are extensively developed in the interior of tight sandstone, a considerable body of research indicates that the type of diffusion is mainly molecular diffusion based on Fick＇s law. However, accurate modeling and understanding the physics of gas transport phenomena in nanoporous media is still a challenge for researchers and traditional investigation（analytical and experimental methods） have many limitations in studying the generic behavior. In this paper, we used Nano-CT to observe the pore structures of samples of the tight sandstone of western of Sichuan. Combined with advanced image processing technology, threedimensional distributions of the nanometer-sized pores were reconstructed and a tight sandstone digital core model was built, as well the pore structure parameters were analyzed quantitatively. Based on the digital core model, the diffusion process of methane molecules from a higher concentration area to a lower concentration area was simulated by a finite volume method. Finally, the reservoir＇s concentration evolution was visualized and the intrinsic molecular diffusivity tensor which reflects the diffusion capabilities of this rock was calculated. Through comparisons, we found that our calculated result was in good agreement with other empirical results. This study provides a new research method for tight sandstone digital rock physics. It is a foundation for future tight sandstone gas percolation theory and numerical simulation research.

Experimental study of power consumption, local characteristics distributions and homogenization energy in gas–liquid stirred tank reactors

In this paper, the power consumption, the vertical local void fraction and the local gas–liquid interfacial area are investigated in the aerated stirred tank reactors(STRs) equipped with a rigid-flexible impeller. Meanwhile, the regressive correlation based on power consumption and interfacial area is proposed. Then a novel homogenization energy(HE = RSDPtm) expression based on power consumption and local interfacial area is redefined and used to indicate the mixing efficiency. The optimal operating mode is selected based on the change of the HE value. This paper can provide research ideas for structural optimization of stirred reactors.

Preparation and Characterization of Multiester Derivative from Plant Oil as Base Stock for Biolubricants

As an alternative to petroleum-based lubricants, which are harmful to the environment in excessive amounts, a biodegradable multiester derivative(OFANE) was obtained from plant oil through a chemical modification process with four steps as follows: hydrolysis, esterification, epoxidation, and ring-opening reaction. The physical and chemical properties of OFANE, such as viscosity, acid value, pour point, evaporation loss, and oxidation induction time were measured. Results showed that OFANE had good low-temperature fluidity, thermal-oxidative stability, and tribological properties. The tribological properties of OFANE with dimeric acid additive were evaluated. The final biodegradation experiment indicated that OFANE had excellent biodegradability. The prepared OFANE showed great potential as substitute for petroleum-based lubricating base oils.

Epicardial Adipose Tissue in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea:A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Objective:Epicardial adipose tissue(EAT)is a potential risk factor for obstructive sleep apnea(OSA).We performed a meta-analysis to assess the association of EAT with ***:The PubMed,EMBASE,Web of science,Cochrane Library,and Wanfang databases were searched by two independent investigators for all observational studies assessing the association of EAT with *** we assessed the association of EAT thickness(EAT-t)and EAT volume(EAT-v)with OSA by a ***:Ten studies were included in the fi nal *** with that in controls,EAT-t in OSA patients was signifi cantly increased(standardized mean difference 0.88,95%confi dence interval 0.72-1.05,P=0.000).Furthermore,EAT-t was greater in OSA patients than in controls with similar ***,we did not fi nd signifi cant differences in EAT-v between OSA patients and controls(standardized mean difference 2.46,95%confi dence interval−0.36 to 5.29,P=0.088).EAT-t in the mild,moderate,and severe OSA subgroups was greater than in the *** addition,there were signifi cant differences in EAT-t among the mild,moderate,and severe OSA ***:EAT-t was greater in patients with OSA than in controls,and EAT-t was also associated with the severity of *** fi ndings may provide a new clue for the pathogenesis and treatment of OSA.

Study on pharmacodynamics of QiHu preparation for diabetes

OBJECTIVE To examine effects of the Qi Hu preparation for diabetes（Qi Hu） on reduction of blood glucose levels and protection of organ injures caused by diabetes. METHODS Fifty 6-week-old female KK-Ay mice and db/db mice were randomly equally divided into 5 groups: model control（MC） group（given with adjuvant 0.3% CMCNa）, Qi Hu low-, middle-and highdose groups(0.75, 1.5 and 3.0 g crude drug·kg;, respectively), and positive control group(0.13 g Metformin·kg;),respectively. RESULTS Food intake was significantly decreased in low-, middle-and high dose Qi Hu groups and Metformin group compared with MC group in both KK-Ay mice and db/db mice. Body weight were significantly lower in high dose Qi Hu group and Metformin group than in MC group in both KK-Ay mice and db/db mice. In KK-Ay mice, random blood glucose levels of low-[（18.47±8.41）mmol·L;], middle-[（17.93±5.90） mmol·L;], high dose Qi Hu groups[（15.10 ± 2.60） mmol · L;]and Metformin group[（17.58±7.72） mmol·L;]were significantly lower than that[（26.95±4.62） mmol·L;]of MC group at day29. In KK-Ay mice, levels of TG and CHOL were moderately decreased in low-, middle-and high dose groups and Metformin group compared with the MC group. Less liver damage and pancreatic atrophy were observed in all the Qi Hu groups and Metformin group compared with MC group. There was no difference in above indexes between high dose Qi Hu groups and Metformin group. In db/db mice, random blood glucose levels ofhigh dose Qi Hu groupswere significant lower in all Qi Hu groups than that of MC group since week *** Qi Hu can significantly reduce blood glucose levels in KK-Ay mice and db/db mice, and attenuate injures of liver and pancreas in the KK-Ay mice.
