Volatile sex pheromones are vital for sexual communication between males and *** of the American cockroach,Periplaneta americana,produce and emit two sex pheromone components,periplanone-A(PA)and periplanone-B(PB).Although PB is the major sex attractant and can attract males,how it interacts with PA in regulating sexual behaviors is still *** this study,we found that in male cockroaches,PA counteracted PB *** identified two odorant receptors(ORs),OR53 and OR100,as PB/PA and PA receptors,***53 and OR100 were predominantly expressed in the antennae of sexually mature males,and their expression levels were regulated by the sex differentiation pathway and nutrition-responsive *** localization of OR53 and OR100 in male antennae further revealed that two types of sensilla coordinate a complex two-pheromone-two-receptor pathway in regulating cockroach sexual *** findings indicate distinct functions of the two sex pheromone components,identify their receptors and possible regulatory mechanisms underlying the male-specific and age-dependent sexual behaviors,and can guide novel strategies for pest management.

Optical pulling provides a new degree of freedom in optical *** is generally believed that long-range optical pulling forces cannot be generated by the gradient of the incident ***,we theoretically propose and numerically demonstrate the realization of a long-range optical pulling force stemming from a self-induced gradient field in the manipulated *** analogy to potential barriers in quantum tunnelling,we use a photonic band gap design in order to obtain the intensity gradients inside a manipulated object placed in a photonic crystal waveguide,thereby achieving a pulling *** the usual scattering-type optical pulling forces,the proposed gradient-field approach does not require precise elimination of the reflection from the manipulated *** particular,the Einstein-Laub formalism is applied to design this unconventional gradient *** magnitude of the force can be enhanced by a factor of up to 50 at the optical resonance of the manipulated object in the waveguide,making it insensitive to *** developed approach helps to break the limitation of scattering forces to obtain longrange optical pulling for manipulation and sorting of nanoparticles and other *** developed principle of using the band gap to obtain a pulling force may also be applied to other types of waves,such as acoustic or water waves,which are important for numerous applications.

While the use of low-melting-point metals as sintering aids for high-entropy carbide(HEC)ceramics has been well established,their existence can compromise hardness due to residual metallic *** study demonstrates an innovative strategy to meet this challenge,where(Ti,Zr,Nb,Ta,Mo)C high-entropy carbide ceramics with ultrafine grains and enhanced hardness are obtained through chromium(Cr)-metal-assisted spark plasma sintering(SPS)at a temperature as low as 1600℃.The results show that the addition of 5 vol%Cr promotes the formation of highly densified single HEC phase ceramics with a high relative density(98.4%)and an ultrafine-grained microstructure(0.17μm).This low-temperature densification mechanism can be attributed to Cr’s solid-solution effect within the matrix and the increased carbon vacancies generated during *** grain size of the(Ti,Zr,Nb,Ta,Mo)C ceramics with 5 vol%Cr metal addition is significantly smaller than that of Cr-free(Ti,Zr,Nb,Ta,Mo)C ceramics sintered at 2000℃(3.03μm)or via traditional low-temperature liquid-phase sintering(1.3–1.5μm).Importantly,the addition of 5 vol%Cr substantially increased the hardness of the ceramics,with a remarkable increase from 23.57 to 28.16 GPa compared to that of the pure(Ti,Zr,Nb,Ta,Mo)C ceramics,owing to the fine-grain strengthening and solid-solution strengthening *** work highlights the uniqueness of Cr metal as a sintering aid in achieving densification and hardness improvements in(Ti,Zr,Nb,Ta,Mo)C ceramics,offering a promising strategy for improving the properties of HEC materials for further development in the near future.

Copper possesses very strong chacophile properties,but under the conditions found in meteorites,its behavior is like that of siderophile *** Suizhou meteorite is a highly shocked L6 *** and taenite are considered the main primary carrier of copper in this meteorite,and the post-shock thermal episode is considered the main reason that elemental Cu migrates from its original host phase and forms metallic *** Suizhou meteorite contains a few very thin shock melt *** occurrence and behavior of metallic copper in this meteorite were studied by optical microscopic examination,electron microprobe analyses,and high-resolution X-ray elemental intensity *** results show that metallic copper is abundant in the Suizhou chondritic *** copper grains adjacent to small troilite grains inside FeNi metal are the most common occurrence,and those at the FeNi metal–troilite interface are the second most common *** metallic copper grains occurring at the interface of FeNi metal/troililte and silicate are rather *** copper grains are not observed within the Suizhou shock veins,Instead,Cu in elemental form is transferred through shock metamorphism into FeNi metal+troilite *** diff erent occurrence types of Cu in the FeNi metal+troilite intergrowths have been identifi ed:the concentrations of Cu in the FeNi+FeS intergrowths for four occurrence types are rather close,we estimate it might be lower than 1 wt%.

The fabrication of suitable MFI zeolites to effectively produce para-xylene through the alkylation between toluene and methanol is highly ***,the two-dimensional pillared MFI zeolite was modified by silicalite-1,and its morphology and structure were systematically investigated by tuning the concentration of Si species during the secondary crystallization *** MFI zeolites were characterized by X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy,pyridine-infrared and N_(2) adsorption-desorption *** characterization results showed that the external Brønsted acid sites of surface passivated P-MFI-x samples have been successfully ***,the P-MFI-23 showed long lifetime and high selectivity of para-xylene(about 35%)based on the cooperation between opened interlamellar structure and passivated silicalite-1 *** was found that the accumulated hard coke in the interior of MFI zeolites not only blocked the channels of zeolites but also covered the acidic sites,resulting in the deactivation of ***,the highest selectivity of para-xylene(about 48%)can be achieved for P-MFI-30 under harsh reaction condition,which also exhibited excellent regeneration property in the alkylation reaction between toluene and *** strategy described in present research may open a window for the design of other advanced materials.

Tri(2-chloropropyl)phosphate(TCPP)was an emerging contaminant of global concern because of its frequent occurrence,potential toxic effects,and persistence in the *** degradation might be an efficient and safe removal method,but limited information was *** this study,Providencia rettgeri was isolated from contaminated sediment and showed it could use TCPP as unique phosphorus source to promote growth,and decompose 34.7%of TCPP(1 mg/L)within 5 *** microbial inoculation and the initial concentration of TCPP could affect the biodegradation *** study results indicated that TCPP decomposition by Providencia rettgeri was mainly via phosphoester bond hydrolysis,evidenced by the production of bis(2-chloropropyl)phosphate(C6H13Cl2PO4)and mono-chloropropyl phosphate(C3H8ClPO4).Both intracellular and extracellular enzymes could degrade TCPP,but intracellular degradation was dominant in the later reaction stage,and the presence of Cu2+ions had a promoting *** findings developed novel insights into the potential mechanism of TCPP microbial degradation.

Switching the reaction routes in peroxymonosulfate(PMS)-based advanced oxidation processes have attracted much attention but remain ***,a series of Co-N/C catalysts with different compositions and structures were prepared by using bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate frameworks based on ZIF-8 and ZIF-67(x Zn/Co-ZIFs).Results show that Co doping amount could mediate the transformation of the activation pathway of PMS over CoN/*** Co doping amount was less than 10%,the constructed x Co-N/C/PMS system(x≤10%)was singlet oxygen-dominated reaction;however further increasing Co doping amount would lead to the generation and coexistence of sulfate radicals and high-valent cobalt,besides singlet ***,the nitrogen-coordinated Co(Co-NX)sites could serve as main catalytically active sites to generate singlet *** excess Co doping amount caused the formation of Co nanoparticles from which leached Co ions were responsible for the generation of sulfate radicals and high-valent *** to undoped N/C,Co doping could significantly enhance the catalytic *** 0.5%Co-N/C could achieve the optimum degradation(0.488 min^(-1))and mineralization abilities(78.4%)of sulfamethoxazole among the investigated Co-N/C catalysts,which was superior to most of previously reported *** addition,the application prospects of the two systems in different environmental scenarios(pH,inorganic anions and natural organic matter)were assessed and showed different degradation *** study provides a strategy to regulate the reactive species in PMS-based advanced oxidation process.

In recent years,there has been a shift towards using non-fullerene electron acceptors in organic solar cells(osCs)as a replacement for fullerene *** change requires polymer donors that possess compatible physical properties,such as absorption range,HoMo energy level,miscibility,and ***,the high cost and poor batch-to-batch reproducibility of polymer donors also hinder future large-scale *** emphasize the need to explore alternative types of polymer *** imide-functionalized building units possess several key attributes that make their polymers highly promising for non-fullerene *** attributes include ease of synthesis,strong electron-withdrawing ability,rigid and co-planar structure,and the ability to easily tune solubility through imide side *** this review,we summarized the synthetic routes of imide building units,and the structural evolution of imide-functionalized polymer donors by focusing on the effects of polymer structure on their physical,optoelectronic,and photovoltaic *** hope that this mini-review will serve as a catalyst for future research on imide-functionalized polymers toward high-performance,cost-effective,and durable organic solar cells(oscs).
