This paper investigates a control and protection strategy for a four-terminal modular multilevel converter(MMC)based high-voltage direct current(HVDC)system under a converter-side AC *** on the system operating condition,a control and protection strategy against the fault with normal blocking of the converter is *** practical,applications encountering such a fault,the MMC at the fault side may experience different conditions of blocking *** blocking failures may occur on:①the whole converter;②one converter arm;③one sub-module(SM)/several SMs of one converter arm;④other *** phenomenon of the multi-terminal HVDC(MTDC)system following the fault is analyzed under the first three conditions with real-time simulations using the real-time digital simulator(RTDS).Based on the impact of different conditions on the MTDC system,the necessity of utilizing special control and protection is discussed.A special control and protection strategy is proposed for emergency conditions,and its effectiveness is verified by real-time simulation results.

A new model for three-dimensional processes based on the trinion algebra is introduced for the first *** to the pure quaternion model, the trinion model is more compact and computationally more efficient,while having similar or comparable performance in terms of adaptive linear filtering. Moreover, the trinion model can effectively represent the general relationship of state evolution in Kalman filtering, where the pure quaternion model fails. Simulations on real-world wind recordings and synthetic data sets are provided to demonstrate the potential of this new modeling method.

Due to the complexity of modern industrial systems, a conventional automation system is not capable of providing sufficient information management and high-level intelligent approaches, as achieving these functionalities requires the support of comprehensive data management and coordination between system devices and heterogenous information. This paper proposes the concept of e-Automation, in which computer networking and distributed intelligence agent technologies are applied to industrial automation systems, and presents a hardware and software architecture that implements this concept. An open infrastructure based on multi-agent systems is employed in the proposed architecture of e-Automation, which aims to allow the implementation of diverse tasks and to permit greater configurability than can be obtained from a traditional system. To evaluate our proposed e-Automation concept, this paper presents a case study of substation information management which adopts the proposed e-Automation architecture in power system domain.

The influence of thermal treatment on the dielectric properties and energy storage performances of a classical dielectric nanocomposite system(barium titanate/polyvinylidene fluoride PVDF)was discussed *** results demonstrated that the permittivity of thermal treated nanocomposites increased and dielectric loss decreased compared with the untreated *** addition,the energy density was also greatly improved due to the inclined residual *** example,the energy density of the treated nanocomposite with 50 vol.%nanofillers was 3.14 times higher than the untreated nanocomposite at 50 MV/***,the charge–discharge efficiency was also promoted from 6.36%to 56.89%.According to the viewpoint of microstructure,the improvement of the dielectric and energy storage properties would be ascribed to the suppression on void defects in the interphase of dielectric nanocomposite by employing the thermal treatment ***,thermal treatment turns out to be a simple and an effective method to improve the dielectric performances and energy storage properties in the dielectric nanocomposites.

Hierarchical and distributed demand response control strategy for thermostatically controlled appliances in smart grid

Thermostatically controlled appliances(TCAs)have great thermal storage capability and are therefore excellent demand response(DR) resources to solve the problem of power fluctuation caused by renewable *** centralized management is affected by communication quality severely and thus usually has poor realtime control performance. To tackle this problem, a hierarchical and distributed control strategy for TCAs is established. In the proposed control strategy, target assignment has the feature of self-regulating, owing to the designed target assignment and compensating algorithm which can utilize DR resources maximally in the controlled regions and get better control effects. Besides, the model prediction strategy and customers’ responsive behavior model are integrated into the original optimal temperature regulation(OTR-O), and OTR-O will be evolved into improved optimal temperature regulation. A series of case studies have been given to demonstrate the control effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
