This survey paper provides a review and perspective on intermediate and advanced reinforcement learning(RL)techniques in process industries. It offers a holistic approach by covering all levels of the process control hierarchy. The survey paper presents a comprehensive overview of RL algorithms,including fundamental concepts like Markov decision processes and different approaches to RL, such as value-based, policy-based, and actor-critic methods, while also discussing the relationship between classical control and RL. It further reviews the wide-ranging applications of RL in process industries, such as soft sensors, low-level control, high-level control, distributed process control, fault detection and fault tolerant control, optimization,planning, scheduling, and supply chain. The survey paper discusses the limitations and advantages, trends and new applications, and opportunities and future prospects for RL in process industries. Moreover, it highlights the need for a holistic approach in complex systems due to the growing importance of digitalization in the process industries.

Adopting high penetration levels of electric vehicles(EVs)necessitates the implementation of appropriate charging management systems to mitigate their negative impacts on pow-er distribution ***,most of the proposed Ev charging management techniques rely on the availability of high-bandwidth communication *** techniques are far from realization due to①the lack of utility-grade communica-tion systems in many cases such as secondary(low-voltage)pow-er distribution systems to which EVs are connected,rural ar-eas,remote communities,and islands,and②existing fears and concerns about the data privacy of EV users and cyber-physical *** these cases,appropriate local control schemes are needed to ensure the adequate management of EV charging without violating the grid operation ***,this paper introduces a new communication-less management strategy for EV charging in droop-controlled islanded *** proposed strategy is autonomous,as it is based on the measurement of system frequency and local bus *** proposed strategy implements a social charging fairness policy during periods when the microgrid distributed genera-tors(DGs)are in short supply by allocating more system capaci-ty to the EVs with less charging in the ***,a novel communication-less EV load shedding scheme is incorpo-rated into the management strategy to provide relief to the mi-crogrid during events of severe undervoltage or underfrequency occurrences due to factors such as high loading or DG *** simulations demonstrate the superiority of the pro-posed strategy over the state-of-the-art controllers in modulat-ing the EV charging demand to counteract microgrid instability.

We carry out a theoretical investigation of the low-temperature phase diagram of muonium hydride in two dimensions,using numerical *** is shown that the phase diagram of this substance is qualitatively different in two and three ***,while in three dimensions it is essentially identical to that of parahydrogen,i.e.,only displaying a single(crystalline)*** two dimensions it is very similar to that of^(4)He,with an equilibrium liquid phase that turns superfluid at a temperature as high as~2.2 K,and crystallizes under applied *** is a well-described case of a continuous-space condensed matter system whose ground state equilibrium phase is qualitatively altered by dimensional reduction.

HDPairFinder:A data processing platform for hydrogen/deuterium isotopic labeling-based nontargeted analysis of trace-level amino-containing chemicals in environmental water

The combination of hydrogen/deuterium(H/D)formaldehyde-based isotopic methyl labeling with solid-phase extraction and high-performance liquid chromatography–high resolution mass spectrometry(HPLC-HRMS)is a powerful analytical solution for nontargeted analysis of trace-level amino-containing chemicals in water *** the huge amount of chemical information generated in HPLC-HRMS analysis,identifying all possible H/Dlabeled amino chemicals presents a significant challenge in data *** address this,we designed a streamlined data processing pipeline that can automatically extract H/D-labeled amino chemicals from the raw HPLC-HRMS data with high accuracy and ***,we developed a cross-correlation algorithm to correct the retention time shift resulting from deuterium isotopic effects,which enables reliable pairing of H-and D-labeled ***,we implemented several bioinformatic solutions to remove false chemical features generated by in-source fragmentation,salt adduction,and natural13C ***,we used a data mining strategy to construct the AMINES library that consists of over 38,000 structure-disjointed primary and secondary amines to facilitate putative compound ***,we integrated these modules into a freely available R program,*** rationale of each module was justified and its performance tested using experimental H/D-labeled chemical standards and authentic water *** further demonstrated the application of HDPairFinder to effectively extract N-containing contaminants,thus enabling the monitoring of changes of primary and secondary N-compounds in authentic water *** is a reliable bioinformatic tool for rapid processing of H/D isotopic methyl labeling-based nontargeted analysis of water samples,and will facilitate a better understanding of N-containing chemical compounds in water.

Wind power prediction interval(WPPI)models in the literature have predominantly been developed for and tested on specific case ***,wind behavior and characteristics can vary significantly across ***,a prediction model that performs well in one case might underperform in *** address this shortcoming,this paper proposes an ensemble WPPI framework that integrates multiple WPPI models with distinct characteristics to improve *** important and often overlooked factor is the role of probabilistic wind power prediction(WPP)in quantifying wind power uncertainty,which should be handled by operating *** reserve in WPPI frameworks enhances the efficacy of *** this regard,the proposed framework employs a novel bi-layer optimization approach that takes both WPPI quality and reserve requirements into *** analysis with different real-world datasets and various benchmark models validates the quality of the obtained WPPIs while resulting in more optimal reserve requirements.

Climate refugia can serve as a remnant habitat or stepping stones for species dispersal under climate *** largest freshwater lake by surface area,Lake Superior,USA and canada,serves as a model system for understanding cooling-mediated local refugia,as its cool water temperatures and wave action have maintained shoreline habitats suitable for southern disjunct populations of arctic-alpine plants since ***,we seek to explain spatial patterns and environmental drivers of arctic-alpine plant refugia along Lake Superior’s shores,and assess future risk to refugia under moderate(+3.5℃)and warmest(+5.7℃)climate warming ***,we examined how the interactive effects of summer surface water temperatures and wind affected onshore temperatures,resulting in areas of cooler ***,we developed an ecological niche model for the presence of disjunct arctic-alpine refugia(pooling 1253 occurrences from 58 species)along the lake’s ***,we fit species distribution models for 20 of the most common arctic-alpine disjunct species and predicted presence to identify refugia ***,we used the two climate warming scenarios to predict changes in the presence of refugia and disjunct *** type,elevation above water,inland distance,July land surface temperature from MODIS/Terra satellite and near-shore depth of water were the best predictors of disjunct ***,we predicted 2236 km of the shoreline(51%)as disjunct refugia habitat for at least one species under current conditions,but this was reduced to 20% and 7% with moderate(894 km)and warmest(313 km)climate change projections.

Power converters and their interfacing networks are often treated as modular state-space blocks for small-signal stability studies in microgrids;they are interconnected by matching the input and output states of the network and *** resistors have been widely used in existing models to generate a voltage for state-space models of the network that require voltage *** paper accurately quantifies the adverse impacts of adding the virtual resistance and proposes an alternative method for network modelling that eliminates the requirement of the virtual resistor when interfacing converters with *** proposed nonlinear method allows initialization,time-domain simulations of the nonlinear model,and linearization and eigenvalue generation.A numerically linearized small-signal model is used to generate eigenvalues and is compared with the eigenvalues generated using the existing modelling method with virtual *** of the existing method and improvements offered by the proposed modelling method are clearly *** transient(EMT)simulations using detailed switching models are used for validation of the proposed modelling method.

During the multistep process of metastasis,cancer cells encounter various mechanical forces which make them deform *** accurate in-silico models,capable of simulating the interactions between the mechanical forces and highly deformable cancer cells,can pave the way for the development of novel diagnostic and predictive methods for metastatic ***-network models of cancer cell,empowered by our recently proposed identification approach,promises a versatile numerical tool for developing experimentally validated models that can simulate complex interactions at cellular *** this numerical tool,we presented spring-network models of breast cancer cells that can accurately replicate the experimental data of deformation behavior of the cells flowing in a fluidic domain and passing narrow constrictions comparable to ***,using high-speed imaging,we experimentally studied the deformability of breast cancer cell lines with varying metastatic potential(MCF-7(less invasive),SKBR-3(medium-high invasive),and MDA-MB-231(highly invasive)in terms of their entry time to a constricted microfluidic *** observed that MDA-MB-231,that has the highest metastatic potential,is the most deformable cell among the ***,by focusing on this cell line,experimental measurements were expanded to two more constricted microchannel *** experimental deformability data in three constricted microchannel sizes for various cell sizes,enabled accurate identification of the unknown parameters of the spring-network model of the breast cancer cell line(MDA-MB-231).Our results show that the identifed parameters depend on the cell size,suggesting the need for a systematic procedure for identifying the size-dependent parameters of spring-network models of *** the numerical results show,the presented cell models can simulate the entry process of the cell into constricted channels with very good agreements with the measured experimen
