Role of solar power in shifting the Turkish electricity sector towards sustainability

This work covers a three-stage evaluation:cradle-to-grave life-cycle assessment(LCA)of polycrystalline silicon(pc-Si)and monocrys-talline silicon(mc-Si)solar photovoltaics(PVs)as on-grid utility-scale energy options;environmental-impact distribution of pc-Si and mc-Si combinations under local conditions in Turkey;and assessment of the role of solar power in improving the environmental per-formance of the Turkish electricity *** LCA,mc-Si panels are found to have 4.47-9.16%higher environmental impacts than pc-Si panels in absolute ***,the higher efficiency and slower degradation rate of mc-Si panels make them have lower impacts on a kWh electricity *** the solar PV combination,the global-warming potential(GWP)and human-toxicity potential(HTP)re-sults are found to be significantly lower than that of home-scale pc-Si systems(27.1-34.4 g versus 33.7-59.9 g CO_(2) equivalent(eq)/kWh 30.6-38.9 g versus 65.9-117 g 1-4 dichlorobenzene(g 1-4 DB)eq/kWh)operating in Turkey due to the higher capacity and efficiency of the utility-scale *** result reveals the advantage of utilizing solar power as a centralized energy option for the *** of the eight impacts that we evaluated reduce increasingly with increasing solar percentage in the electricity *** general ten-dency is that each percentage increase in solar electricity in the mix reduces each impact by~1.0%.With a conservative assumption,if the solar power ratio in the mix increases to 15%by 2030,a GWP reduction of 31.3 million tons can be *** corresponds to 12.7%of the greenhouse-gas mitigation commitment(246 million tons CO_(2) eq)made by Turkey under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate *** the Turkish electricity sector being dominated by imported coal and natural gas,the obtained results reveal the potential of solar power in improving the environmental performance of the electricity mix in Turkey.

Asymmetric relationship between global and national factors and domestic food prices:evidence from Turkey with novel nonlinear approaches

This study investigates the asymmetric relationship between global and national fac-tors and domestic food prices in Turkey,considering the recent rapid and continuous increase in domestic food *** this context,six global and three national explana-tory variables were included,and monthly data for the period from January 2004 to June 2021 were *** addition,novel nonlinear time-series econometric approaches,such as wavelet coherence,Granger causality in quantiles,and quantile-on-quantile regression,were applied for examination at different times,frequencies,and ***,the Toda-Yamamoto(TY)causality test and quantile regression(QR)approach were used for robustness *** empirical results revealed that(i)there is a significant relationship between domestic food prices and explanatory variables at different times and frequencies;(ii)a causal relationship exists in most quantiles,excluding the lowest quantile,some middle quantiles,and the highest quantile for some variables;(iii)the power of the effect of the explanatory variables on domestic food prices varies according to the quantiles;and(iv)the results were validated by the TY causality test and QR,which show that the results were ***,the empiri-cal results reveal that global and national factors have an asymmetric relationship with domestic food prices,highlighting the effects of fluctuations in global and national variables on domestic food ***,the results imply that Turkish policymakers should consider the asymmetric effects of global and national factors on domestic food prices at different times,frequencies,and quantiles.

A non-uniform quadtree map building method including dead-end semantics extraction

To reduce the complexity of large-scene high-resolution maps while using the dead-end information distributed in the unmanned vehicle driving environment,we propose a novel non-uniform quadtree map-building method including dead-end semantic information *** utilizing quadtree data structures,submaps and a positive-order tree depth organization approach,our proposed map can adapt to the large-scale high-resolution requirement and expand more easily to larger *** verify the practicality of our proposed map,we have successfully implemented map matching and path planning in real ***,we effectively extract the dead-end semantic information that widely distributes in the environment,which can help unmanned vehicles avoid collisions and improve the search efficiency of the planning *** evaluate our method with KITTI datasets,CARLA Simulator,and our self-collected real-world *** experimental results show that our proposed method significantly reduces the complexity of large-scale high-resolution maps,effectively extracts dead-end semantic information,and has good practicality in real *** implementation of our method is released here:https://***/biter0088/Non-uniform-quadtree-map.

Rapidly increasing cryptocurrency prices have encouraged cryptocurrency miners to participate in cryptocurrency production,increasing network hashrates and electricity *** in network hashrates has further crowded out small cryptocurrency investors owing to the heightened costs of mining hardware and *** changes prompt cryptocurrency miners to become new investors,leading to cryptocurrency price *** potential bidirectional relationship between cryptocurrency price and electricity consumption remains ***,this research thus utilizes July 312015–July 122019 data from 13 cryptocurrencies to investigate the short-and long-run causal effects between cryptocurrency transaction and electricity ***,we consider structural breaks induced by external shocks through stationary analysis and comovement *** the examined time period,we found that the series of cryptocurrency transaction and electricity consumption gradually returns to mean convergence after undergoing daily shocks,with prices trending together with *** fluctuations exert both a temporary effect and permanent influence on electricity ***,owing to the computational power deployed to wherever high profit is found,transactions are vital determinants of electricity consumption.

Background:Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United *** length of stay(LOS)is a well-established parameter used to evaluate health outcomes among critically ill patients with heart disease in cardiac intensive care units(CICUs).While evidence suggests that the presence of daylight and window views can positively influence patients’LOS,no studies to date have differentiated the impact of daylight from window views on heart disease ***,existing research studies on the impact of daylight and window views have failed to account for key clinical and demographic variables that can impact the benefit of such interventions in ***:This retrospective study investigated the impact of access to daylight *** views on CICU patients'*** study CICU is located in a hospital in the southeast United States and has rooms of the same size with different types of access to daylight and window views,including rooms with daylight and window views(with the patient bed located parallel to full-height,south-facing windows),rooms with daylight and no window views(with the patient bed located perpendicular to the windows),and windowless *** from electronic health records(EHRs)for the time-period September 2015 to September 2019(n=2936)were analyzed to investigate the impact of room type on patients’CICU *** regression models were developed for the outcome of interest,controlling for potential confounding ***:Ultimately,2319 patients were finally included in the study *** indicated that patients receiving mechanical ventilation in rooms with access to daylight and window views had shorter LOS durations(16.8 h)than those in windowless *** analysis for a subset of patients with LOS≤3 days revealed that parallel bed placement to the windows and providing access to both daylight and window views significantly reduced their LOS compared to windowless rooms in the unit(P=0.007).Also,parallel b

Unraveling quad fever:Severe hyperthermia after traumatic cervical spinal cord injury

Purpose:There are many infectious and inflammatory causes for elevated core-body temperatures,though they rarely pass 40℃(104℉).The term"quad fever"is used for extreme hyperpyrexia in the setting of acute cervical spinal cord injuries(SCIs).The traditional methods of treating hyperpyrexia are often ineffective and reported morbidity and mortality rates approach 100%.This study aims to identify the incidence of elevated temperatures in SCIs at our institution and assess the effectiveness of using a non-invasive dry water temperature management system as a treatment modality with ***:A retrospective analysis of acute SCI patients requiring surgical intensive care unit admission who experienced fevers≥40℃(104℉)were compared to patients with maximum temperatures<40℃.Patients≥18 years old who sustained an acute traumatic SCI were included in this *** who expired in the emergency department;had a SCI without radiologic abnormality;had neuropraxia;were admitted to any location other than the surgical intensive care unit;or had positive blood cultures were *** 9.4 was used to conduct statistical ***:Over the 9-year study period,35 patients were admitted to the surgical intensive care unit with a verified *** patients experienced maximum temperatures of≥40℃.Six of those patients were treated with the dry water temperature management system with an overall mortality of 57.1%in this *** mortality rate for the 28 patients who experienced a maximum temperature of≤40℃was 21.4%(p=0.16).Conclusion:The diagnosis of quad fever should be considered in patients with cervical SCI in the presence of *** this study,there was no significant difference in mortality between quad fever patients treated with a dry water temperature management system versus SCI patients without quad *** early use of a dry water temperature management system appears to decrease the mortality rate of quad fever.

Background Brain tumor surgery has been using operative microscope for ***,thanks to developments in surgical technology with procedures performed on head-up displays,exoscopes have been introduced as an alternative to microscopic *** presentation We present a case of a 46-year-old patient with a low-grade glioma recurrence of the right gyrus cinguli removed with a contralateral transfalcine approach using an exoscope(ORBEYE 4K-three-dimensional(3D)exoscope,Sony Olympus Medical Solutions Inc.,Tokyo,Japan).The operating room setup for this approach is *** the procedure,the surgeon was seated with head and back in an upright position,while the camera was aligned with the surgical *** exoscope provided detailed,high-quality 4K-3D images of the anatomical structures and optimal depth perception,making surgery accurate and *** the end of the resection,an intraoperative MRI scan showed complete removal of the *** patient was discharged on postoperative day 4 with an excellent performance on neuropsychological *** In this clinical case the contralateral approach was favorable because the glioma was located close to the midline and because it offered a straight path to the tumor,minimizing retraction on the *** exoscope provided the surgeon with important advantages in terms of anatomical visualization and ergonomics during the entire procedure.
