Bamboo is a typical biological material widely growing in nature with excellent physical and mechanical *** is lightweight with high strength and *** naturally optimized bamboo structure,which has inspired global material scientists and engineers for decades,is significantly important for the bionic design of novel structural materials with ultra-light,ultra-strong,or ultra-tough and comprehensive *** literature on innovative composite materials and structural members inspired by bamboo are reviewed in this paper,and the research progress and prospects in this field are expounded in three ***,the structural characteristics of the bamboo wall layer along the thickness and height directions are described in terms of chemical composition,gradient structure,pore structure,and hollow structure with variable ***,this paper summarizes the research progress on new composite materials and structural components by applying bamboo’s structural features from the perspective of sustainability,designability,and ***,given the limitations of current research,the biomimetic scientific research on bamboo’s structural characteristics is prospected from the interpretation of bamboo structure,new bamboo-like materials,and structural design optimization perspectives,providing a reference for future research on biomimetic aspects of biomass.

Fatigue and Corrosion Fatigue Properties of Mg-Zn-Zr-Nd Alloys in Glucose-Containing Simulated Body Fluids

Medical bone implant magnesium(Mg)alloys are subjected to both corrosive environments and complex loads in the human *** increasing number of hyperglycemic and diabetic patients in recent years has brought new challenges to the fatigue performance of Mg ***,it is significant to study the corrosion fatigue(CF)behavior of medical Mg alloys in glucose-containing simulated body fluids for their clinical ***,the corrosion and fatigue properties of extruded Mg-Zn-Zr-Nd alloy in Hank’s balanced salt solution(HBSS)containing different concentrations(1 g/L and 3 g/L)of glucose were *** average grain size of the alloy is about 5μm,which provides excellent overall mechanical *** conditional fatigue strength of the alloy was 127 MPa in air and 88 MPa and 70 MPa in HBSS containing 1 g/L glucose and 3 g/L glucose,*** crack initiation points for alloys in air are oxide inclusions and in solution are corrosion *** corrosion rate of the alloy is high at the beginning,and decreases as the surface corrosion product layer thickens with the increase of immersion *** corrosion products of the alloy are mainly Mg(OH)_(2),MgO and a small amount of Ca-P *** electrochemical results indicated that the corrosion rate of the alloys gradually decreased with increasing immersion time,but the corrosion tendency of the alloy was greater in HBSS containing 3 g/L *** the one hand,glucose accelerates the corrosion process by adsorbing large amounts of aggressive Cl^(-)*** the other hand,glucose will be oxidized to form gluconic acid,and then reacts with Mg(OH)_(2) and MgO to form Mg gluconate,which destroys the corrosion product film and leads to the aggravation of corrosion and the accumulation of fatigue damage.

Winter wheat yield improvement by genetic gain across different provinces in china

The replacement of winter wheat varieties has contributed significantly to yield improvement worldwide,with remarkable progress in *** on two sets of data,production yield from the national Bureau of Statistics of china and experimental yield from literature,this study aims to(1)illustrate the increasing patterns of production yield among different provinces from 1978 to 2018 in china,(2)explore the genetic gain in yield and yield relevant traits through the variety replacement based on experimental yield from 1937 to 2016 in china,and(3)compare the yield gap between experimental yield and production *** results show that both the production and experimental yields significantly increased along with the variety *** national annual yield increase ratio for the production yield was 1.67%from 1978 to 2018,varying from 0.96%in Sichuan Province to 2.78%in Hebei Province;such ratio for the experimental yield was 1.13%from 1937 to *** yield gap between experimental and production yields decreased from the 1970s to the *** study reveals significant increases in some yield components consequent to variety replacement,including thousand-grain weight,kernel number per spike,and grain number per square meter;however,no change is shown in spike number per square *** biomass and harvest index consistently and significantly increased,whereas the plant height decreased significantly.

Acoustic characterization of hydrate formation and decomposition in clay-bearing sediments

Understanding the acoustic characteristics of hydrates in various sediments is crucial for hydrate resource detection and safe and efficient exploitation, as hydrate occurrence patterns vary greatly in different sediments. In this work, sediments with different bentonite contents, water saturations, and types were prepared to investigate the characteristics of P-wave velocity(reflecting the magnitude of hydrate saturation in the sediment) and amplitude(reflecting the degree of hydrate-sediment cementation) during hydrate formation and depressurization. During hydrate formation, the P-wave velocity and amplitude have similar trends. As clay content increases, the P-wave velocity increase rates quickened. On the other hand, the increased rate of P-wave velocity slows down with the increase of water saturation in the clay-bearing sediments. Comparing various types of sediment shows that the water absorption and swelling of bentonite reduce the pore space, speeding up the cementation of the hydrate with the sediment and increasing P-wave velocity at a faster rate. Correspondence between P-wave velocity and hydrate saturation is strongly related to sediment type, clay content, and water *** rapidly decreasing amplitude in the early stage of hydrate depressurization indicates that hydrate in clay-bearing sediments is weakly cemented to the sediments, which is prone to stratigraphic *** findings of this study offer guidance for hydrate resource assessments in clay-bearing sediments as well as geologic risk estimations during hydrate mining.

Harness High-Temperature Thermal Energy via Elastic Thermoelectric Aerogels

Despite notable progress in thermoelectric(TE)materials and devices,developing TE aerogels with high-temperature resistance,superior TE performance and excellent elasticity to enable self-powered high-temperature monitoring/warning in industrial and wearable applications remains a great ***,a highly elastic,flame-retardant and high-temperature-resistant TE aerogel,made of poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate)/single-walled carbon nanotube(PEDOT:PSS/SWCNT)composites,has been fabricated,displaying attractive compression-induced power factor *** as-fabricated sensors with the aerogel can achieve accurately pressure stimuli detection and wide temperature range ***,a flexible TE generator is assembled,consisting of 25 aerogels connected in series,capable of delivering a maximum output power of 400μW when subjected to a temperature difference of 300 *** demonstrates its outstanding high-temperature heat harvesting capability and promising application prospects for real-time temperature monitoring on industrial high-temperature ***,the designed self-powered wearable sensing glove can realize precise wide-range temperature detection,high-temperature warning and accurate recognition of human hand *** aerogel-based intelligent wearable sensing system developed for firefighters demonstrates the desired self-powered and highly sensitive high-temperature fire warning *** from these desirable properties,the elastic and high-temperature-resistant aerogels present various promising applications including self-powered high-temperature monitoring,industrial overheat warning,waste heat energy recycling and even wearable healthcare.

Lipase and photodecarboxylase coexpression: A potential strategy for alkane-based biodiesel production from natural triglycerides

Alkane-based biodiesel is considered the next generation of biodiesel owing to its potential environmental benefits and the fact that it exhibits much higher specific caloric values than traditional ***,the formidable obstacle impeding the commercialization of this cutting-edge fuel alternative lies in the cost associated with its *** this study,an engineered strain Escherichia coli(***)showcasing harmonized coexpression of a lipase(from Thermomyces lanuginosus lipase,TLL)and a fatty acid photodecarboxylase(from Chlorella variabilis,CvFAP)was first constructed to transform triglycerides into *** potential of *** BL21(DE3)/pRSFDuet-1-TLL-CvFAP for alkane synthesis was evaluated with tripalmitin as a model substrate under various process *** a comprehensive examination of the reaction parameters,the scope of the biotransformation was expanded to‘real’substrates(vegetable oils).The results showed that bioderived oils can be transformed into alkanes with high yields(0.80-10.20 mmol·L^(-1))under mild conditions(35℃,pH 8.0,and 36 h)and blue light *** selected processes were performed on an increased lab scale(up to 100 ml)with up to 24.77 mmol·L^(-1) tripalmitin,leading to a yield of 18.89 mmol·L^(-1) *** the employment of a method for efficiently producing alkanes under mild conditions and a simple procedure to isolate alkanes from the reaction system,the utilization of sustainable biomass as a fundamental feedstock emerges as the primary solution to lower the cost of alkane-based ***,this study proposes a readily implementable and highly effective approach for alkane-based biodiesel production.

From concept to commercialization:A review of tubular solid oxide fuel cell technology

The reduced sealing difficulty of tubular solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs) makes the stacking of tubular cell groups relatively easy,and the thermal stress constraints during stack operation are smaller,which helps the stack to operate stably for a long *** special design of tubular SOFC structures can completely solve the problem of high-temperature sealing,especially in the design of multiple single-cell series integrated into one tube,where each cell tube is equivalent to a small electric stack,with unique characteristics of high voltage and low current output,which can significantly reduce the ohmic polarization loss of tubular *** paper provides an overview of typical tubular SOFC structural designs both domestically and *** on the geometric structure of tubular SOFCs,they can be divided into bamboo tubes,bamboo flat tubes,single-section tubes,and single-section flat tube ***,this article provides an overview of commonly used materials and preparation methods for tubular SOFCs,including commonly used materials and preparation methods for support and functional layers,as well as a comparison of commonly used preparation methods for microtubule SOFCs,It introduced the three most important parts of building a fuel cell stack:manifold,current collector,and ceramic adhesive,and also provided a detailed introduction to the power generation systems of different tubular SOFCs,Finally,the development prospects of tubular SOFCs were discussed.

Shear-thinning Catechol-modified Chitosan Hydrogel Loaded with Silver Nanoparticles for Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection

Shear-thinning hydrogels have emerged for endoscopic submucosal dissection,while wound intervention after surgery has rarely been ***,a catechol-modified chitosa n hydrogel with shear-thinning property was developed for simultaneously facilitating endoscopic submucosal dissection and postoperative wound *** from the shear-thinning and self-healing characteristics,the asprepared hydrogel showed easily endoscopic *** also performed very well as submucosal cushion,which could remain above 70%after injection for 120 min in ex vivo porcine large intestine *** fact,the cushion height of normal saline dramatically decreased to 46%of the initial height at 30 *** nanoparticles encapsulated into the network endowed the hydrogel with almost reached 100%antibacterial effect against *** and *** hemolysis ratio of the hydrogel was calculated to be as low as 0.8%.Combined with good hemocompatibility and cytocompatibility,the as-prepared hydrogel displayed much higher in vivo wound closu re and healing efficacy than normal *** results demonstrated the superiority of the shear-thinning chitosan hydrogel in facilitating clinical endoscopic submucosal dissection surgery.

Coordination of distinctive pesticide adjuvants and atomization nozzles on droplet spectrum evolution for spatial drift reduction

Pesticide adjuvants,as crop protection products,have been widely used to reduce drift loss and improve utilization efficiency by regulating droplet ***,the coordinated regulation mechanisms of adjuvants and nozzles on droplet spectrum remain ***,we established the relationship between droplet spectrum evolution and liquid atomization by investigating the typical characteristics of droplet diameter distribution near the *** on this,the regulation mechanisms of distinctive pesticide adjuvants on droplet spectrum were clarified,and the corresponding drift reduction performances were quantitively evaluated by wind tunnel *** shows that the droplet diameter firstly shifts to the smaller due to the liquid sheet breakup and then prefers to increase caused by droplet *** the surface tension of sprayed liquid facilitates the uniform liquid breakup and increasing the viscosity inhibits the liquid deformation,which prolong the atomization process and effectively improve the droplet *** a result,the drift losses of flat-fan and hollow cone nozzles are reduced by about 50%after adding organosilicon and vegetable oil *** contrast,the air induction nozzle shows a superior anti-drift ability,regardless of distinctive *** findings provide insights into rational adjuvant design and nozzle selection in the field application.
