Deep-learning-empowered synthetic dimension dynamics: morphing of light into topological modes

Synthetic dimensions(SDs) opened the door for exploring previously inaccessible phenomena in high-dimensional space. However, construction of synthetic lattices with desired coupling properties is a challenging and unintuitive task. Here, we use deep learning artificial neural networks(ANNs) to construct lattices in real space with a predesigned spectrum of mode eigenvalues, and thus to validly design the dynamics in synthetic mode dimensions. By employing judiciously chosen perturbations(wiggling of waveguides at desired frequencies), we show resonant mode coupling and tailored dynamics in SDs. Two distinct examples are illustrated: one features uniform synthetic mode coupling, and the other showcases the edge defects that allow for tailored light transport and confinement. Furthermore, we demonstrate morphing of light into a topologically protected edge mode with modified Su–Schrieffer–Heeger photonic lattices. Such an ANN-assisted construction of SDs may advance toward “utopian networks,” opening new avenues for fundamental research beyond geometric limitations as well as for applications in mode lasing,optical switching, and communication technologies.

In this study,the substructure formation in a multi-pass rolled aluminium single crystal{001}was investigated by the crystal plasticity finite element model,and the predations were validated by experimental observations at both macro-and micro-scale.A finite element model for multi-pass rolling was developed to follow the real experimental rolling scheme,by which the through-thickness macroscopic subdivision was successfully predicted up to a 90%*** macro-subdivision was featured by forming matrix bands through the thickness,and the deformation behaviours,in terms of slip activity,shear strain and crystal rotation,alternated between matrix *** development of matrix bands,stability of crystal orientations,and correlation between slip activity,shear strain and crystal rotation have been *** modelling method,Submodel,was used to exceedingly increase the mesh resolution in smaller regions of interest,and the experimentally observed microstructure,i.e.,micro-subdivision was explicitly and spatially *** predictions were obtained in Submodels with different element sizes,which proves the feasibility of this method in predicting microstructure *** was found that the substructure formation by varying slip activity and crystal rotation between domains is energy *** procedure of substructure formation was explained based on the predictions,three types of substructure have been identified,and the substructure formation was discussed.

Two-dimensional（2D） metal oxide nanosheets have attracted much attention as potential electrode materials for rechargeable batteries in recent years. This is primarily due to their natural abundance, environmental compatibility, and low cost as well as good electrochemical properties. Despite the fact that most metal oxides possess low conductivity, the introduction of some conductive heterogeneous components, such as nano-carbon, carbon nanotubes（CNTs）, and graphene, to form metal oxide-based hybrids,can effectively overcome this drawback. In this mini review, we will summarize the recent advances of three typical 2D metal oxide nanomaterials, namely, binary metal oxides, ternary metal oxides, and hybrid metal oxides, which are used for the electrochemical applications of next-generation rechargeable batteries, mainly for lithium-ion batteries（LIBs） and sodium-ion batteries（SIBs）. Hence, this review intends to functionalize as a good reference for the further research on 2D nanomaterials and the further development of energy-storage devices.

A cost-effective Fe-enriched eutectic high-entropy alloy(EHEA),Fe35Ni25Cr25Mo15,was designed and prepared to avoid the use of expensive Co that is commonly used in ***,the as-cast Feenriched EHEA was associated with *** present work aims to evaluate the possibility and feasibility of spheroidization of the lamellar structure of the EH EA in order to improve the *** to the high cooling rate of arc-melting,the as-melted Fe35Ni25Cr25Mo15 EHEA was found to be a pseudo eutectic alloy comprised of alternantσphase(Cr(0.22)Mo0.18Fe0.6-type intermetallic)and face centred cubic(FCC)*** lamellar structure in the Fe-enriched EHEA remained stable up to 800Κ.The instability of the lamellar structure occurred at temperatures over 800℃,which was resulted from migration of high-density faults(*** termination and ledges in the lamellae).However,the Fe35Ni25Cr25Mo15EHEA still exhibited brittleness even after spheroidization at 1100℃for 168 h due to the formation of the hard and brittleσmatrix in the pseudo Fe35Ni25Cr25Mo15 EHEA as a result of decomposition of the lamellar ***,in contrast to the softening of traditional eutectic alloys,spheroidization treatment was considered as invalid to improve the ductility of pseudo-eutectic HEA with high fraction of intermetallic *** present work provides a valuable re ference for those who aim to improve the ductility of brittle EHEA through spheroidization.

The hydrogenation of nitrobenzene into aniline is one of industrially important reactions, but still remains great challenge due to the lack of highly active, chemo-selective and eco-friendly catalyst. By using extensive density functional theory (DFT) calculations, herein we predict that single Pt atom decorated g-C3N4 (Pt@g-C3N4) exhibits excellent catalytic activity and selectivity for the conversion of nitrobenzene into aniline under visible light. The overall activation energy barrier for the hydrogenation of nitrobenzene on single atom Pt@g-C3N4 catalyst is even lower than that of the bare Pt(111) surface. The dissociation of N-0 bonds on single Pt atom is triggered by single hydrogen atom rather than double hydrogen atoms on the Pt(111) surface. Moreover, the Pt@g-C3N4 catalyst exhibits outstanding chemoselectivity towards the common reducible substituents, such as phenyl,-C=C,-C = C and -CHO groups during the hydrogenation. In addition, the doped single Pt atom can significantly enhance the photoconversion efficiency by broadening the light absorption of the pristine g-C3N4 to visible light region. Our results highlight an interesting and experimentally synthesized single-atom photocatalyst (Pt@g-C3N4) for efficient hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to aniline under a sustainable and green approach.

Electrochemical reduction of CO_(2) is a promising strategy to manage the global carbon balance by transforming CO_(2) into chemicals. The efficiency of CO_(2) electroreduction is largely dependent on the design of hybrid electrode where both support and catalyst govern the performance of the electrolyzer. In this work,TiO_(2) calcined at different temperatures, was used as a support for immobilization of cobalt tetraphenyl porphyrin(CoTPP) and its effect on CO_(2) reduction was studied. It is demonstrated that the crystalline phase of TiO_(2) and doping of TiO_(2) apparently affecting CO_(2) electroreduction. It is found that anatase phase exhibits higher activity and selectivity compared to rutile due to the enhanced conductivity which in turn enables faster electron transfer between the support and CoTPP. As for dopants, the carbon doping in anatase TiO_(2) is proven to further enhance its conductivity, consequently resulting in the enhanced performance. This study implies that the rational design of supports is important for the performance of the hybrid electrode towards electrochemical CO_(2) reduction.

The remarkable evolution of metal halide perovskites in the past decade makes them promise for next-generation optoelectronic *** particular,nanocrystals(NCs)of inorganic perovskites have demonstrated excellent performance for light-emitting and display ***,the presence of surface defects on the NCs negatively impacts their performance in ***,we report a compatible facial post-treatment of CsPbI_(3) nanocrystals using guanidinium iodide(GuI).It is found that the GuI treatment effectively passivated the halide vacancy defects on the surface of the NCs while offering effective surface protection and exciton confinement thanks to the beneficial contribution of iodide and guanidinium *** a consequence,the film of treated CsPbI_(3) nanocrystals exhibited significantly enhanced luminescence and charge transport properties,leading to high-performance light-emitting diode with maximum external quantum efficiency of 13.8%with high brightness(peak luminance of 7039 cd m^(−2) and a peak current density of 10.8 cd A^(−1)).The EQE is over threefold higher than performance of untreated device(EQE:3.8%).The operational half-lifetime of the treated devices also was significantly improved with T50 of 20 min(at current density of 25 mA cm^(−2)),outperforming the untreated devices(T50~6 min).
