Objective:To determine the prevalence of infection with intestinal parasites in 101 dogs in an animal shelter in ***,and investigate whether any general characteristics of the dogs were associated with ***:Parasitologiesl examination of fecal samples from the dogs was performed by means of centrifuge-flotation using Sheather's sucrose and zinc sulfate flotation *** addition,hematocrit was determined in each canine blood ***:Intestinal parasites were found in 99(98.0%) of the 101 dogs *** five different intestinal parasites were identified:Ancylostoma caninum in 89 dogs(88.1%).Giardia canis in 46(45.5%).Unciiuiria stenocephalia in 43(42.6%).Trichuris vulpis in 19(18.8%)and Strongyloides canis in 16(15.8%).Multivariate analysis showed:I) Giardia infection was associated with young age and mixed breed;2) Ancylostoma was associated with young age and no rabies vaccination:and 3) Strongyloides was associated with no rabies *** and Trichuris infections were not associated with the variables ***:A high prevalence of intestinal parasites was found in the dogs *** suggests that the environment is highly contaminated with intestinal *** and therapeutic measures should be taken against infection with intestinal parasites in dogs in this region.

In this work we propose a mathematical model to simulate Chikungunya spread;the spread model is implemented in a C++ cellular automata code defined on unstructured triangular grids and space visualizations are performed with *** order to simulate the time space spread of the Chikungunya diseases we include assumptions such as:heterogeneous human and vector densities,population mobility,geographically localized points of infection using geographical information systems,changes in the probabilities of infection,extrinsic incubation and mosquito death rate due to environmental *** experiments reproduce the qualitative behavior of diseases spread and provide an insight to develop strategies to prevent the diseases spread.

AIM: To investigate factors associated with gastric cancer (GC) in the Mexican population using a validated questionnaire. METHODS: We designed and validated in Spanish a Questionnaire to Find Factors Associated with Diseases of the Digestive Tract using GC as a model. A cross-sectional study using 49 subjects, with confirmed histopathological GC diagnosis, and 162 individuals without GC participated. Odds ratio and 95% CIs were estimated in univariate and multivariate analysis adjusted for possible confounding factors. In order to match age groups, a multivariate sub-analysis was performed in subjects ≥ 39 years of age and in females and males separately. RESULTS: In the univariate analysis, we found an association between GC and education to primary level or below, low socioeconomic status, the use of dental prostheses, omission of breakfast, consumption of very hot food and drink, addition of salt to prepared foods, consumption of salt-preserved foods and the pattern of alcohol consumption. We found protection against GC associated with the use of mouthwash, food refrigeration and regular consumption of fruit and vegetables. In the multivariate sub-analysis with subjects of ≥ 39 years, the omission of breakfast was identified as a risk factor for GC. CONCLUSION: Our study suggests an association between the omission of breakfast and the failure to refrigerate food with GC in the Mexican population.

The rapid weight gain and fast muscle growth due to intense genetic selection and improved nutrition for additional breast muscle in broiler commercial strains affect chickens *** order to compare the main locomotive problems in broilers of Cobb and Ross strains,two pens from a commercial farm in Veracruz,Mexico were *** first pen housed 16,500 males and 16,500 females of Cobb strain and the second one 16,500 males and 16,500 females of Ross *** were checked for locomotion problems from day one until their *** with problems were recorded and necropsies were performed to identify the *** of 1406 animals with locomotive problems(2.13%of the total),58.9%were Cobb and 41.1%Ross(P<0.05).The frequency of locomotive problems was 2.51%for Cobb and 1.75%for *** common individual lesions were osteochondrosis(38.61%),inflamed joints with purulent contents(37.13%),and valgus(19.65%).Locomotive problems appeared since the first week,but its number increased as birds gained weight,particularly from the fourth week *** occurred more in males than in females and in Cobb birds than in the Ross *** loss due to locomotion problems was higher for the Cobb strain.
