Profiles of carbon stocks in forest,reforestation and agricultural land,Northern thailand

A study was conducted to assess carbon stocks in various forms and land-use types and reliably estimate the impact of land use on C stocks in the Nam Yao sub-watershed （19°05′10″N, 100°37′02″E）, thailand. The carbon stocks of aboveground, soil organic and fine root within primary forest, reforestation and agricultural land were estimated through field data collection. Results re- vealed that the amount of total carbon stock of forests （357.62 ± 28.51 Mg·ha^-1, simplified expression of Mg （carbon）·ha^-1） was significantly greater （P〈 0.05） than the reforestation （195.25 ± 14.38 Mg·ha^-1） and the agricultural land （103.10 ± 18.24 Mg·ha^-1）. Soil organic carbon in the forests （196.24 ± 22.81 Mg·ha^-1） was also significantly greater （P〈 0.05） than the reforestation （146.83 ± 7.22 Mg·ha^-1） and the agricultural land （95.09± 14.18 Mg·ha^-1）. The differences in carbon stocks across land-use types are the primary consequence of variations in the vegetation biomass and the soil organic matter. Fine root carbon was a small fraction of carbon stocks in all land-use types. Most of the soil organic carbon and fine root carbon content was found in the upper 40-cm layer and decreased with soil depth. The aboveground carbon：soil organic carbon： fine root carbon ratios （ABGC： SOC： FRC）, was 5：8：1, 2：8：1, and 3：50：1 for the forest, reforestation and agricultural land, respectively. These results indicate that a relatively large proportion of the C loss is due to forest conversion to agricultural land. However, the C can be effectively recaptured through reforestation where high levels of C are stored in biomass as carbon sinks, facilitating carbon dioxide mitigation.

Objective: To determine the occurrence of Chlamydia *** wild birds in ***: Cloacal and tracheal swabs of 313 wild birds from 11 orders, 27 families, and 51 species were tested to determine the occurrence of Chlamydia *** outer membrane protein A(ompA) gene was amplified from positive samples to construct a phylogenetic ***: At the time of sample collection, none of the birds showed clinical signs of any *** 313 wild birds, two Asian openbill stork(Anastomus oscitans) were positive for Chlamydia spp., representing 0.64%(2/313) and 4.9%(2/41) occurrence for birds overall and for the Asian openbill stork, *** analysis based on deduced amino acid of the ompA gene showed that Chlamydia *** Asian openbill storks was closely related to that in wildfowl(Pica pica and Cygnus olor) from Poland in a different branch with a 95% bootstrap value and had a shorter evolutionary distance to Chlamydia ***: Asymptomatic Asian openbill storks could be a potential source of Chlamydia infection in domestic animals, poultry, and humans who share their habitat.

Preliminary investigation on the prevalence of malaria and HIV co-infection in Mae Sot District, Tak Province of thailand

Objective: To preliminarily investigate the prevalence of HIV co-infection in patients with malaria in Mae Sot District, Tak Province of ***: The study was a retrospective study on blood samples collected from a total of 256 patients with malaria(all species and severity) who attended Mae Tao clinic for migrant workers, Tak Province during 2005-2007(148 samples) and 2010-2012(108 samples). Malaria diagnosis was performed based on microscopic examination of patients' blood smears. Chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay and gel particle passive agglutination were employed for the detection of HIV antigen in patients' plasma. Results: Plasmodium falciparum(P. falciparum) and Plasmodium vivax(P. vivax) are the two predominant malaria species with the ratio of about 1: 1 to 1.5:1. Most of the P. falciparum cases were presented with acute uncomplicated signs and symptoms with highest parasitemia of 1 045 000 asexual parasites/μL bloods. The prevalence of malaria and HIV co-infection during 2005-2007 was 1.35%(2/148 cases, 1 each for P. falciparum and P. vivax co-infection), but was increased to 2.78%(3/108 cases, 2 and 1 for P. falciparum and P. vivax co-infection, respectively) during ***: The increasing trend of prevalence of malaria and HIV co-infection in Mae Sot, Tak province was of a great concern on either pharmacodynamics or pharmacokinetics aspect. The study in a larger numbers of malaria patients in different endemic areas throughout the country with different time periods is underway.

Coconut(Cocos nucifera L.)is an important economic crop in tropical ***,the lack of a complete reference genome and the limitations of usable DNA markers hinder genomic studies and the molecular breeding of ***,we present the results of simple sequence repeat(SSR)mining from a high-throughput genotyping-bysequencing(GBS)study of a collection of 38 coconut accessions.A total of 22,748 SSRs with di-,tri-,tetra-,penta-and hexanucleotide repeats of five or more were identified,2451 of which were defined as polymorphic loci based on locus clustering in 38 coconut accessions,and 315 loci were suitable for the development of SSR *** hundred loci were selected,and primer pairs for each SSR locus were designed and validated in 40 coconut *** analysis of 74 polymorphic markers identified between 2 and 9 alleles per locus,with an average of 3.01 *** assessment of the genetic diversity and genetic relationships among the 40 coconut varieties based on the analysis of population structure,principal coordinate analysis(PCoA),and phylogenetic tree analysis using the 74 polymorphic SSR markers revealed three main groups of coconuts in *** identified SSR loci and SSR markers developed in this study will be useful for the study of coconut diversity and molecular *** SSR mining approach used in this study could be applied to other plant species with a complex genome regardless of the availability of reference genome.

Fungal diversity on fallen leaves of Ficus in northern thailand

Fallen leaves of Ficus altissima, F. virens, F. benjamina, F. fistulosa and F. semicordata, were collected in Chiang Mai Province in northern thailand and examined for fungi. Eighty taxa were identified, comprising 56 anamorphic taxa, 23 ascomycetes and l basidiomycete. Common fungal species occurring on five host species with high frequency of occurrence were Beltraniella nilgirica, Lasiodiplodia theobromae, Ophioceras leptosporum, Periconia byssoides and Septonema harknessi. Colletotrichum and Stachybotrys were also common genera. The leaves of different Ficus species supported diverse fungal taxa, and the fungal assemblages on the different hosts showed varying overlap. The fungal diversity of saprobes at the host species level is discussed.

Endogamous marriage and the prevalence of hemoglobin E in ethnic groups of northern thailand

Objective:To investigate the impact of the endogamous marriage culture on the prevalence of the hemoglobin E(HbE) recessive ***:The prevalence of the hemoglobin E(HbE)recessive variant was determined by dot-blot hybridization in 4 endogamous villages(1 Mlabri and 3 Htin ethnic groups) in comparison with 9 other nearby non-endogamous ***:Although the overall HbE prevalence in the population studied(8.44%,33/391)was not significantly different from that of the general southeast Asian population,a high prevalence and individuals with homozygous HbE were observed in two villages,the Mlabri from Wiang Sa district and the Htin from Thung Chang district of Nan province(26.3%and26.9%,respectively).The low HbE allelic frequency noticed in some endogamous populations suggests that not only endogamy but also other evolutionary forces,such as founder effect and HbE/β-thalassemia negative selection may have an effect on the distribution of the HbE ***:Our study strongly documents that cultural impact has to be considered in the extensive prevalence studies for genetic disorders in the ethnic groups of northern thailand.

Immunological evidence of Zika virus transmission in thailand

Objective: To identify immunological evidence of Zika virus transmission in thailand. Methods: To undertake a preliminary serosurvey of possible exposure to Zika virus, 21 serum samples from cohort of acute undifferentiated fever patients were examined for immunoreactivity to Zika, Dengue, Japanese encephalitis and Chikungunya envelope antigens by Western blot analysis. Results: Twenty of the 21 serum samples showed immunoreactivity to at least one of the antigens, with seven samples showing immunoreactivity to all antigens. Of particular note, two serum samples showed immunoreactivity only to Zika envelope antigen, with no immunoreactivity to other envelope antigens. Conclusions: This study presents the first evidence of Zika virus transmission in thailand, although as yet the relationship between transmission and possible cases of Zika fever in thailand requires further investigation.

Sexual Morph of Furcasterigmium furcatum (Plectosphaerellaceae) from Magnolia liliifera Collected in Northern thailand

We isolated an interesting fungus from dead leaves of Magnolia liliifera collected from Chiang Mai,*** novel strain is related to Plectosphaer-ellaceae based on the morphology of its asexual morph and the analysis of sequence *** analyses using a combined gene analysis of LSU and ITS sequence data showed that this strain is clustered in the same clade with Furcasterigmium furcatum with high statistical *** new strains produced the asexual morph in culture which is morphologically similar to ***,we identified this strain as the sexual morph of *** is the first record of sexual morph for the monotypic genus Furcasterigmium and the first record of this genus on Magnolia.

High resurgence of dengue vector populations after space spraying in an endemic urban area of thailand:A cluster randomized controlled trial

Objective: To examine the resurgence rate, house density index(HDI) and parous rate of the Aedes aegypti vector after space spraying carried out by the routine spraying team,and compare with the rates after standard indoor ultra low volume(SID-ULV) spraying carried out by the trained research spraying ***: Between March and September 2014, a cluster randomized controlled trial including 12 clusters(6 regular ULV, 6 SID-ULV) with totally 4 341 households was conducted, and around 20–31 houses in each cluster were selected for assessment. The parous rate and HDI of collected mosquitoes 2 days before and 1, 2 and 6 days after spraying were obtained and ***: The HDI dropped significantly from the baseline 1 and 2 days after spraying to a non-zero value in the SID-ULV treated locations but not in the regular ULV group locations. However, by 6 days after spraying, the HDI of both groups had returned to the base value measured 2 days before spraying. There were no statistically significant differences in the parous rate between ***: SID-ULV is more effective in reducing Aedes aegypti ***, rapid resurgence of dengue vector after spraying in urban areas was observed in both groups.

Assessing the implementation of the family care team in the district health system of health region 2,thailand

Background:The family care team(FCT)was established to improve the quality of *** study aimed to explore the perceptions of FCT implementation and describe the challenges inherent in implementing the ***:Forty in-depth interviews were *** interviewees consisted of five pri-mary care managers in the provincial medical health office,five directors of community hospitals,five administrators in district health offices,ten subdistrict health-promoting hospital directors,rep-resentatives from ten local organizations,and five heads of village health *** were col-lected in accordance with semistructured interview guidelines and analyzed by thematic ***:Participants’expressed their opinions through five themes:(1)the role and scope of practice,(2)the communication in collaboration of the FCT,(3)the management of the FCT,(4)the impact of the FCT on the team members’feelings and primary care performance,and(5)the main challenges,including the insufficiency of a teamwork culture and a biomedical ***:The information suggests the importance of issues such as the clarification of the team members’roles and managers’roles,communication within and across FCTs,and the prepara-tion for training of interprofessionals to enhance collaborative management to achieve the optimal care for people in the district health system.
