Improvements in rainfall estimation over Bangkok,thailand by merging satellite,radar,and gauge rainfall datasets with the geostatistical method

Bangkok is located in a low land area,and floods frequently occur from rainfall,river discharge,and tides.High-accuracy rainfall data are needed to achieve high-accuracy flood predictions from hydrological models.The main objective of this study is to establish a method that improves the accuracy of precipitation estimates by merging rainfall from three sources:an infrared channel from the Himawari-8 satellite,rain gauges,and ground-based radar observations.This study applied cloud classification and bias correction using rain gauges to discriminate these errors.The bias factors were interpolated using the ordinary kriging(OK)method to fill in the areas of estimated rainfall where no rain gauge was available.The results show that bias correction improved the accuracy of radar and Himawari-8 rainfall estimates before their combination.The merged algorithm was then adopted to produce hourly merged rainfall products(GSR).Compared to the initial estimated product,the GSR is significantly more accurate.The merging algorithm increases the spatial resolution and quality of rainfall estimates and is simple to use.Furthermore,these findings not only reveal the potential and limitations of the merged algorithm but also provide useful information for future retrieval algorithm enhancement.

Gastrointestinal(GI)cancer is a malignancy arising in the digestive system and accounts for approximately a third of increasing global cancer-related mortality,especially in the colorectum,esophagus,stomach,and liver.Interleukin-1β(IL-1β)is a leukocytic pyrogen recognized as a tumor progression-related cytokine.IL-1βsecretion and maturation in inflammatory responses could be regulated by nuclear factor-kappaB-dependent expression of NLR family pyrin domain containing 3,inflammasome formation,and activation of IL-1 converting enzyme.Several studies have documented the pro-tumorigenic effects of IL-1β in tumor microenvironments,promoting proliferation and metastatic potential of cancer cells in vitro and tumorigenesis in vivo.The application of IL-1β inhibitors is also promising for targeted therapy development in some cancer types.However,as a leukocytic pro-inflammatory cytokine,IL-1β may also possess anti-tumorigenic effects and be type-specific in different cancers.This editorial discusses the up-to-date roles of IL-1β in GI cancers,including underlying mechanisms and down-stream signaling pathways.Understanding and clarifying the roles of IL-1β would significantly benefit future therapeutic targeting and help improve therapeutic outcomes in patients suffering from GI cancer.

Molecular genetic diversity of winged bean gene pool in thailand assessed by SSR markers

Winged bean[Psophocarpus tetragonolobus(L.)DC.]is a vegetable legume crop.The center of origin,diversity and domestication of this crop are not known.In this study,we assessed the genetic diversity and population structure of 457 accessions of winged bean collected from six geographical regions(North,Northeast,East,West,and central,and South)in thailand using 14 simple sequence repeat(SSR)markers.In total,the SSR markers detected only 55 alleles with an average of 3.9 alleles per locus.Observed heterozygosity was relatively high(0.15)and overall gene diversity was moderate(0.487).Gene diversity,allelic richness and observed heterozygosity in the six regions were comparable,while the estimated out-crossing rate was relatively high(16.4%).STRUCTURE analysis grouped the 457 winged bean accessions into three subpopulations.Neighbor-joining(NJ)analysis grouped all the accessions into two major clusters.Genetic groups identified by both STRUCTURE analysis and NJ analysis were unrelated to geographical origins.Principal coordinate analysis revealed no clear clustering of the winged bean accessions.Although genetic groups were not unrelated to geographical origins,most of the winged bean accessions with long pods(30 cm or higher in length)or having purple seed coats or purple young pods were grouped together.This suggested that the winged beans with long pods or with purple seed or purple young pods may have a single origin.Altogether,these results demonstrated that the genetic diversity of winged bean in thailand was moderate with high genetic admixture.We argue that the high genetic admixture of the winged bean in thailand is due to seed migration and relatively high outcrossing rate.

New Evidence of Sauropod Dinosaurs from the Early Jurassic Period of thailand

The oldest dinosaur assemblages of thailand deposit in continental sedimentary rocks of the Nam Phong Formation. Not only Isanosaurus attavipatchi was discovered but at least two more species of basal sauropods were found. A partial skeleton from Phu Hin Tan locality refers to sauropod taxon A. It is different from Isanosaurus and shares some characteristics with basal sauropods in the Early Jurassic. The sauropod taxon B was found in Non Sra Ard locality. Base on postcranial skeleton, sauropod taxon B shares some characteristics of the family Vnlcanodontidae. Moreover, several fragments of the sauropods specimen are also found in Pha Khok Wang Yang and Phu Noi localities. All of the evidences above indicate that there are a highly diversity of sauropods in the Nam Phong Formation. At least three sauropod species （including Isanosaurus） were found in the Nam Phong formation. The issue about the age of the Nam Phong has been debated for a long time between the Triassic and Jurassic age. All of sauropodomorphs, in this study, are more likely the Early Jurassic period dinosaurs than the Triassic period dinosaurs. And they have deposited in the upper part of Nam Phong Formation.

BACKGROUND Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation(TAVI) has been shown to provide comparable survival benefit and improvement in quality of life to surgical aortic valve replacement(SAVR) for treating patients with severe aortic stenosis(AS) at intermediate surgical risk.This study aimed to evaluate the cost-utility of TAVI compared with SAVR for severe aortic stenosis with interme diate surgical risk in thailand.METHODS A two-part constructed model was used to analyze lifetime costs and quality-adjusted life-years(QALYs) from societal and healthcare perspectives.The study cohort comprised severe AS patients at intermediate surgical risk with an average age of 80 years.The landmark trials were used to populate the model in terms of mortality and adverse event rates.All cost-related data and quality of life were based on Thai population.Costs and QALYs were discounted at 3% armually and presented as2021 values.Incremental cost-effectiveness ratios(ICERs) were calculated.Deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were conducted.RESULTS In comparison to SAVR,TAVI resulted in higher total cost(THB 1,717,132 [USD 52;415.51] vs.THB 893,524 [USD27,274.84]) and higher QALYs(4.88 vs.3.98) in a societal perspective.The estimated ICER was THB 906,937/QALY(USD27,684.27/QALY).From a healthcare system perspective,TAVI also had higher total cost than SAVR(THB 1,573,751 [USD48,038.79] vs.THB 726,342 [USD 22,171.63]) with similar QALYs gained to the societal perspective.The estimated ICER was THB933,145/QALY(USD 933,145/QALY).TAVI was not cost-effective at the Thai willingness to pay(WTP) threshold of THB160,000/QALY(USD 4,884/QALY).The results were sensitive to utility of either SAVR or TAVI treatment and cost of TAVI valve.CONCLUSION In patients with severe AS at intermediate surgical risk,TAVI is not a cost-effective strategy compared with SAVR at the WTP of THB 160;000/QALY(USD 4,884/QALY) from the perspectives of society and healthcare system.

The lockdown and vaccination distribution in thailand's COVID-19 epidemic: A model study

Background:Several countries used varied degrees of social isolation measures in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.In 2021,the lockdown in thailand began on July 20 and lasted for the following six weeks.The lockdown has extremely detrimental effects on the economy and society,even though it may reduce the number of COVID-19 instances.Our goals are to assess the impact of the lockdown policy,the commencement time of lockdown,and the vaccination rate on the number of COVID-19 cases in thailand in 2021.Methods:We modeled the dynamics of COVID-19 in thailand throughout 2021 using the SEIR model.The Google Mobility Index,vaccine distribution rate,and lockdown were added to the model.The Google Mobility Index represents the movement of individuals during a pandemic and shows how people react to lockdown.The model also examines the effect of vaccination rate on the incidence of COVID-19.Results:The modeling approach demonstrates that a 6-week lockdown decreases the incidence number of COVID-19 by approximately 15.49e18.17%,depending on the timing of the lockdown compared to a non-lockdown scenario.An increasing vaccination rate potentially reduce the incidence number of COVID-19 by 5.12e18.35%without launching a lockdown.Conclusion:Lockdowns can be an effective method to slow down the spread of COVID-19 when the vaccination program is not fully functional.When the vaccines are easily accessible on a large scale,the lockdown may terminated.

Dry-season sources of riverine sediment from the tropical mixed urban-agricultural watershed of the Mun River Basin in northeastern thailand

Northeastern(NE) thailand is well recognized as the land for rice cropping and consequently, it is potentially contaminated with chemicals from soil fertilization, pest/weed control, and urban discharges.The Mun River basin in NE thailand principally is comprised of rice paddies and sedimentation in the river has been pronounced, but the studies on sediment source identification are limited. The current study aims to identify sediment sources in the Mun River basin and discuss possible impacts on ecosystems attributed to exposure to polluted sediment. The assessment relies upon physicochemical properties and heavy metal contents(iron(Fe), manganese(Mn), copper(Cu), chromium(Cr), nickel(Ni),and Zinc(Zn)) in the fine-grained sediment(<63 μm) taken from the Mun River basin and the Chi River in the dry season of 2020-2021. The findings revealed that the heavy metals in the sediment had not accumulated to levels of concern. Most sediment was from natural sources, including Fe-and Mn-rich sediment, Cr-dominant sediment, and Ni-and Cu-rich sediment. Fe-and Zn-rich sediment was, however, found in the urban watershed of Lam Ta Klong, and it could originate from mixed urban sources. Ferich sediment was predominant in the Mun River basin, which and could be a significant sink and source of toxic elements from agricultural and urban discharges. It is suggested that the toxic compounds in the sediment should be consistently monitored, whereas ecological and health risk assessment should be focused on the mobile forms.

Field investigation of antibiotic removal efficacies in different hospital wastewater treatment processes in thailand

The removal efficacies of 19 antibiotics in different hospital wastewater treatment processes(WWTP)were investigated at various sizes of 60 hospitals across thailand.The results showed slight differences in the total antibiotic removals(79e84%)among WWTP sizes.High antibiotics loading to all WWTP were amoxicillin,ciprofloxacin,tetracycline ampicillin,and norfloxacin,respectively.Amoxicillin and ampicillin were eliminated highly(90e99%)in every size of WWTP,while various efficacies showed for other antibiotics(0e93%).According to process comparison,activated sludge(CAS),oxidation ditch(OD),and sequencing batch reactor(SBR)systems showed similar removals of overall antibiotics(P>0.05).The attached growth systems such as submerged aerated fixed-film(SAFF)demonstrated relatively lower antibiotic removals.The natural processes such as aerated lagoon(AL),facultative pond(FP),and constructed wetland(CW)presented substantial biodegradation of some recalcitrant antibiotics such as fluoroquinolones,sulfamethoxazole,and trimethoprim.Post-chlorination provided additional elimination of some antibiotics such as amoxicillin and ampicillin.Finally,the top-five of antibiotics released into the water environment via discharged effluent are amoxicillin,tetracycline,ampicillin,ciprofloxacin,and imipenem,respectively,which mainly from the suspended growth systems.

目的综合现有知识,识别肝细胞癌(hepatocellular carcinoma,HCC)患者的症状和症状群,以及相关评估工具,以最大限度地改善症状管理。方法采用Whittemore和Knafl提出的整合性综述方法框架,在PubMed..ScienceDirect、Scopus、CINAHL和ThaiJO等数据库中对文献进行系统检索。检索文献发表时间限定为2005年一2022年,仅纳人经过同行评审及有英文摘要的文献。由2名研究员独立进行文献的筛选、提取和分析。结果共纳入14篇文献。分为3个主题:HCC患者的症状.症状评估和症状群。疲劳、乏力、胃痛或腹痛/腹胀、食欲不振、味觉改变、睡眠障碍、苦恼和悲伤是HCC患者最常见的症状。患者症状与肿瘤分期和治疗方法有关。常用的症状评估工具包括5种类型:HCC特异性症状评估癌症一般症状评估、非症状构念测量、特定症状(如疲劳、睡眠障碍、焦虑和抑郁)测量及结合临床检查的症状评估等5种。HCC患者的症状群分为5类:疼痛相关症状、胃肠道症状、神经心理症状和感觉症状.肝功能异常相关症状及其他。结论该综述对HCC患者症状、症状评估和症状群相关知识进行了综合。尽管目前有多种评估工具,但没有一种能涵盖HCC患者的所有症状。建议今后的研究纳入更大的同质化的样本,以便更准确地评估测量工具的效能,避免在将症状分类为症状群时出现歧义,提高症状管理的有效性。

Distribution of PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) particle-and gas-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)during the 2019 normal,partial and strong haze periods at a background location in southern thailand were investigated to understand the behaviors and carcinogenic risks.PM1 was the predominant component,during partial and strong haze periods,accounting for 45.1% and 52.9% of total suspended particulate matter,respectively,while during normal period the contribution was only 34.0%.PM_(0.1) concentrations,during the strong haze period,were approximately 2 times higher than those during the normal period.Substantially increased levels of particle-PAHs for PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) were observed during strong haze period,about 3,5 and 6 times higher than those during normal period.Gas-PAH concentrations were 10 to 36 times higher than those of particle-PAHs for PM_(2.5).Average total Benzo[a]Pyrene Toxic Equivalency Quotients(BaP-TEQ)in PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) during haze periodswere about 2–6 times higher than in the normal period.The total accumulated Incremental Lifetime Cancer Risks(ILCRs)in PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) for all the age-specific groups during the haze effected scenario were approximately 1.5 times higher than those in nonhaze scenario,indicating a higher potential carcinogenic risk.These observations suggest PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) were the significant sources of carcinogenic aerosols and were significantly affected by transboundary haze from peatland fires.This leads to an increase in the volume of smoke aerosol,exerting a significant impact on air quality in southern thailand,as well as many other countries in lower southeast Asia.
