Lumpy skin disease(LSD)is a transboundary disease affecting cattle and has a detrimental effect on the cattle industries in numerous countries in Africa,Europe and Asia.In 2021,LSD outbreaks have been reported in almost all of Thailand's provinces.Indeed,fitting LSD occurrences using mathematical models provide important knowledge in the realm of animal disease modeling.Thus,the objective of this study is to fit the pattern of daily new LSD cases and daily cumulative LSD cases in Thailand using mathematical models.The first-and second-order models in the forms of Lorentzian,Gaussian and Pearson-type VII models are used to fit daily new LSD cases whereas Richard's growth,Boltzmann sigmoidal and Power-law growth models are utilized to fit the curve of cumulative LSD cases.Based on the root-mean-squared error(RMSE)and Akaike information criterion(AIC),results showed that both first and second orders of Pearson-type VII models and Richard's growth model(RGM)were fit to the data better than other models used in the present study.The obtained models and their parameters can be utilized to describe the LSD outbreak in Thailand.For disease preparedness purposes,we can use the first order of the Pearson-type VII model to estimate the time of maximum infected cases occurring when the growth rate of infected cases starts to slow down.Furthermore,the period when the growth rate changes at a slower rate,known as the inflection time,obtained from RGM allows us to anticipate when the pandemic has peaked and the situation has stabilized.This is the first study that utilizes mathematical methods to fit the LSD epidemics in Thailand.This study offers decision-makers and authorities with valuable information for establishing an effective disease control strategy.

Background Hypercholesterolemia is a major risk factor for cardiovascular events in patients with established atherosclerotic disease (EAD) and in those with multiple risk factors (MRFs). This study aimed to investigate the rate of optimal low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol level in a multicenter registry of patients at high risk for cardiovascular events. Methods A multicenter registry of EAD and MRF patients was conducted. Demographic data,medical history,cardiovascular risk factors,anthropometric data,laboratory data,and medications were recorded and analyzed. We classified patients according to target LDL levels based on recommendation by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) 2011 into Group 1 which is EAD and diabetes or chronic kidney disease (CKD)–target LDL below 70 mg/dL,and Group 2 which is MRF without diabetes or CKD–target LDL below 100 mg/dL. The rate of optimal LDL level in patients with Group 1 and Group 2 was analyzed and stratified according to the treatment pattern of lipid-lowering medications. Results A total of 3100 patients were included. Of those,51.7% were male. Average age was 65.8 ± 9.7 years. Average LDL level was 96.3 ± 32.6 mg/dL. A vast majority (92.7%) received statin and 9.3% received ezetimibe. Optimal LDL level was achieved in 20.3% of patients in Group 1 (LDL < 70 mg/dL),and in 46.6% in Group 2 (LDL < 100 mg/dL). The overall rate of optimal LDL control was 23% since 89.6% of study population belongs to Group 1. The rate of optimal LDL was not different between high and low potency statin. Factors that were associated with optimal LDL control were older age,the presence of coronary artery disease or peripheral artery disease. Conclusions The rates of optimal LDL level were unacceptably low in this study population. As such,a strategy to improve LDL control in high-risk population should be implemented.

New Evidence of Sauropod Dinosaurs from the Early Jurassic Period of Thailand

The oldest dinosaur assemblages of Thailand deposit in continental sedimentary rocks of the Nam Phong Formation. Not only Isanosaurus attavipatchi was discovered but at least two more species of basal sauropods were found. A partial skeleton from Phu Hin Tan locality refers to sauropod taxon A. It is different from Isanosaurus and shares some characteristics with basal sauropods in the Early Jurassic. The sauropod taxon B was found in Non Sra Ard locality. Base on postcranial skeleton, sauropod taxon B shares some characteristics of the family Vnlcanodontidae. Moreover, several fragments of the sauropods specimen are also found in Pha Khok Wang Yang and Phu Noi localities. All of the evidences above indicate that there are a highly diversity of sauropods in the Nam Phong Formation. At least three sauropod species （including Isanosaurus） were found in the Nam Phong formation. The issue about the age of the Nam Phong has been debated for a long time between the Triassic and Jurassic age. All of sauropodomorphs, in this study, are more likely the Early Jurassic period dinosaurs than the Triassic period dinosaurs. And they have deposited in the upper part of Nam Phong Formation.

Contrasting compositions of PM2.5 in Northern Thailand during La Ni?a(2017) and El Ni?o(2019)years

There have been a very limited number of systematic studies on PM2.5compositions and their source contribution in Southeast Asia.This study aims to explore the characteristics of PM2.5composition collected in Chiang Mai (Thailand) during La Ni?a and El Ni?o years and to apportion their sources during smoke haze and non-haze periods.The average PM2.5concentration of smoke haze episode in 2019 (El Ni?o) was much higher than in 2017 (La Ni?a).The ratios of organic carbon (OC) to elemental carbon (EC),as well as K (biomass burning (BB)tracer) to PM2.5,were higher during smoke haze episodes in 2019 than in 2017 indicating a significant influence from BB.The ratios of secondary organic carbon (SOC) levels to primary organic carbon (POC) levels during smoke haze episodes were higher than those in non-haze period,which indicated greater SOC contributions or more photo-oxidation of precursors in haze episodes with high ambient temperatures.However,the ratios of soil markers (Ca and Mg) during non-haze period were high implying that soil source contributed more to PM2.5concentrations when there less BB occurred.The positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) model revealed that the source of BB,characterized by high K fractions,was the largest contributor during smoke haze episodes accounting for 50%(2017) and 79%(2019).Climate conditions influence meteorological patterns,particularly during incidences of extreme weather such as droughts,which affect the scale and frequency of open burning and thus air pollution levels.

Improvements in rainfall estimation over Bangkok,Thailand by merging satellite,radar,and gauge rainfall datasets with the geostatistical method

Bangkok is located in a low land area,and floods frequently occur from rainfall,river discharge,and tides.High-accuracy rainfall data are needed to achieve high-accuracy flood predictions from hydrological models.The main objective of this study is to establish a method that improves the accuracy of precipitation estimates by merging rainfall from three sources:an infrared channel from the Himawari-8 satellite,rain gauges,and ground-based radar observations.This study applied cloud classification and bias correction using rain gauges to discriminate these errors.The bias factors were interpolated using the ordinary kriging(OK)method to fill in the areas of estimated rainfall where no rain gauge was available.The results show that bias correction improved the accuracy of radar and Himawari-8 rainfall estimates before their combination.The merged algorithm was then adopted to produce hourly merged rainfall products(GSR).Compared to the initial estimated product,the GSR is significantly more accurate.The merging algorithm increases the spatial resolution and quality of rainfall estimates and is simple to use.Furthermore,these findings not only reveal the potential and limitations of the merged algorithm but also provide useful information for future retrieval algorithm enhancement.

Field investigation of antibiotic removal efficacies in different hospital wastewater treatment processes in Thailand

The removal efficacies of 19 antibiotics in different hospital wastewater treatment processes(WWTP)were investigated at various sizes of 60 hospitals across Thailand.The results showed slight differences in the total antibiotic removals(79e84%)among WWTP sizes.High antibiotics loading to all WWTP were amoxicillin,ciprofloxacin,tetracycline ampicillin,and norfloxacin,respectively.Amoxicillin and ampicillin were eliminated highly(90e99%)in every size of WWTP,while various efficacies showed for other antibiotics(0e93%).According to process comparison,activated sludge(CAS),oxidation ditch(OD),and sequencing batch reactor(SBR)systems showed similar removals of overall antibiotics(P>0.05).The attached growth systems such as submerged aerated fixed-film(SAFF)demonstrated relatively lower antibiotic removals.The natural processes such as aerated lagoon(AL),facultative pond(FP),and constructed wetland(CW)presented substantial biodegradation of some recalcitrant antibiotics such as fluoroquinolones,sulfamethoxazole,and trimethoprim.Post-chlorination provided additional elimination of some antibiotics such as amoxicillin and ampicillin.Finally,the top-five of antibiotics released into the water environment via discharged effluent are amoxicillin,tetracycline,ampicillin,ciprofloxacin,and imipenem,respectively,which mainly from the suspended growth systems.

Molecular genetic diversity of winged bean gene pool in Thailand assessed by SSR markers

Winged bean[Psophocarpus tetragonolobus(L.)DC.]is a vegetable legume crop.The center of origin,diversity and domestication of this crop are not known.In this study,we assessed the genetic diversity and population structure of 457 accessions of winged bean collected from six geographical regions(North,Northeast,East,West,and central,and South)in Thailand using 14 simple sequence repeat(SSR)markers.In total,the SSR markers detected only 55 alleles with an average of 3.9 alleles per locus.Observed heterozygosity was relatively high(0.15)and overall gene diversity was moderate(0.487).Gene diversity,allelic richness and observed heterozygosity in the six regions were comparable,while the estimated out-crossing rate was relatively high(16.4%).STRUCTURE analysis grouped the 457 winged bean accessions into three subpopulations.Neighbor-joining(NJ)analysis grouped all the accessions into two major clusters.Genetic groups identified by both STRUCTURE analysis and NJ analysis were unrelated to geographical origins.Principal coordinate analysis revealed no clear clustering of the winged bean accessions.Although genetic groups were not unrelated to geographical origins,most of the winged bean accessions with long pods(30 cm or higher in length)or having purple seed coats or purple young pods were grouped together.This suggested that the winged beans with long pods or with purple seed or purple young pods may have a single origin.Altogether,these results demonstrated that the genetic diversity of winged bean in Thailand was moderate with high genetic admixture.We argue that the high genetic admixture of the winged bean in Thailand is due to seed migration and relatively high outcrossing rate.

目的探讨泰国南部基于社区的洪灾管理中老年人的救助方法,了解为老年人提供支持的社区文化,以便加强社区力量应对洪灾。方法采用内容分析法,对通过观察、深度访谈、二手资料和焦点小组讨论获取的资料进行分析。研究中共纳入127名研究对象,包括地方行政组织、社区领导者、公共部门官员、民间团体、老年人和家庭照顾者。结果本研究共呈现两个主题。①基于社区的洪灾管理中老年人的救助方法,包括:洪灾前预防和准备阶段的8项措施,洪灾发生时的8项应急反应措施,以及灾后恢复和重建阶段的6项措施。②洪灾管理中成功救助老年人的影响因素,包括人员、工作、数据和资源4个因素。结论研究结果对提高基于社区的洪灾管理中救助老年人的潜力具有重要意义,并为参与洪灾管理的社区护士和卫生工作者提供建议,以减轻洪灾对社区老年人的潜在影响。

Intestinal parasitic infections and risk factors among Myanmar migrant workers in northeast Thailand

Objective:To determine the prevalence and associated factors of intestinal parasitic infections in migrant workers in Nakhon Ratchasima Province,Northeast Thailand.Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted from August 2017 to July 2018 in 600 Myanmar migrant workers.Questionnaires were employed for collecting the demographic data of participants.Stool samples were collected and examined using the formalinether concentration technique.Risk factors for intestinal parasitic infections were determined using multiple logistic regressions analyses.Results:The overall infection rate of intestinal parasitic infections was 27.67%(166/600).Among the intestinal helminthes observed,hookworm was most abundant(8.67%)followed by Trichuris trichiura(8.50%),Opisthorchis viverrini(4.17%),Ascaris lumbricoides(1.50%),Strogyloides stercoralis(1.17%)and Hymenolepis nana(0.5%).Meanwhile,Entamoeba coli was the most prevalent intestinal protozoa(4.33%,26/600)followed by Endolimax nana(1.33%),Entamoeba histolytica complex(1.17%),Blastocystis sp.(1.0%)and Giardia duodenalis(0.17%).The study found significant associations between gender and Strogyloides stercoralis infection(ORadj=5.61,95%CI=1.18–26.70,P=0.03),workers aged 30 years old were likely to have a lower risk of the T.trichiura infection(ORadj=0.45,95%CI=0.23–0.89).Moreover,the history of consuming raw or undercooked cyprinoid fish was a risk factor of Opisthorchis viverrini infection(ORadj=2.82,95%CI=1.22–6.49,P=0.015).Conclusions:There remains a high prevalence of intestinal parasitic infections among Myanmar migrant workers in the study area and therefore health screenings for all migrant workers in Thailand are required.
