High Performance Electrically Small Huygens Rectennas Enable Wirelessly Powered Internet of Things Sensing Applications:A Review

Far-field wireless power transfer(WPT)is a major breakthrough technology that will enable the many anticipated ubiquitous Internet of Things(IoT)applications associated with fifth generation(5G),sixth generation(6G),and beyond wireless ***,which are the combination of rectifying circuits and antennas,are the most critical components in far-field WPT ***,compact application devices require even smaller integrated rectennas that simultaneously have large electromagnetic wave capture capabilities,high alternating current(AC)-to-direct current(DC)(AC-to-DC)conversion efficiencies,and facilitate a multifunctional wireless *** paper reviews various rectenna miniaturization techniques such as meandered planar inverted-F antenna(PIFA)rectennas;miniaturized monopole-and dipole-based rectennas;fractal loop and patch rectennas;dielectric-loaded rectennas;and electrically small near-field resonant parasitic *** performance characteristics are summarized and then compared with our previously developed electrically small Huygens rectennas that are proven to be more suitable for IoT *** have been tailored,for example,to achieve batteryfree IoT sensors as is demonstrated in this ***-free,wirelessly powered devices are smaller and lighter in weight in comparison to battery-powered ***,they are environmentally friendly and,hence,have a significant societal benefit.A series of high-performance electrically small Huygens rectennas are presented including Huygens linearly-polarized(HLP)and circularly-polarized(HCP)rectennas;wirelessly powered IoT sensors based on these designs;and a dual-functional HLP rectenna and antenna ***,two linear uniform HLP rectenna array systems are considered for significantly larger wireless power *** arrays illustrate how they can be integrated advantageously with DC or radio frequency(RF)power-combining schemes for practical IoT applications.

Construction of hollow mesoporous silica nanoreactors for enhanced photo-oxidations over Au-Pt catalysts

It is highly desirable to design hollow structures with multi-scale functions by mimicking cells for the construction of micro/nanoreactors. Herein, we report the construction of hollow-structured submicrometer-photoreactors with bimetallic catalysts loaded within mesoporous silicas. The synthesis parameters are optimized to study the evolution of hollow structure through hydrothermal treatment and an ‘adhesive-contraction’ formation mechanism is proposed. Au Pt@HMZS catalysts exhibited a broader absorbance region under visible light and the adsorption edge displayed a red-shift, indicating the strong metal–metal interactions at the alloy interface. The reaction performance of the coupled Au-Pt catalysts can be tuned to achieve excellent catalytic activity in cinnamyl alcohol oxidation to cinnamic acid for 3.1 mmol g-1with 99%selectivity. The proposed strategy to build hollow structures as multifunctional micro/nanoreactors is promising for the design of high-performance and sustainable catalysts for chemical synthesis.

Surgical management of high-grade pancreatic injuries: Insights from a high-volume pancreaticobiliary specialty unit

BACKGROUND The management of high-grade pancreatic trauma is *** To review our single-institution experience on the surgical management of blunt and penetrating pancreatic *** A retrospective review of records was performed on all patients undergoing surgical intervention for high-grade pancreatic injuries [American Association for the Surgery of Trauma(AAST) Grade Ⅲor greater] at the Royal North Shore Hospital in sydney between January 2001 and December 2022. Morbidity and mortality outcomes were reviewed, and major diagnostic and operative challenges were *** Over a twenty-year period, 14 patients underwent pancreatic resection for highgrade injuries. Seven patients sustained AAST Grade Ⅲinjuries and 7 were classified as Grades Ⅳ or Ⅴ. Nine underwent distal pancreatectomy and 5 underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD). Overall, there was a predominance of blunt aetiologies(11/14). Concomitant intra-abdominal injuries were observed in 11 patients and traumatic haemorrhage in 6 patients. Three patients developed clinically relevant pancreatic fistulas and there was one in-hospital mortality secondary to multi-organ failure. Among stable presentations, pancreatic ductal injuries were missed in two-thirds of cases(7/12) on initial computed tomography imaging and subsequently diagnosed on repeat imaging or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. All patients who sustained complex pancreaticoduodenal trauma underwent PD without mortality. The management of pancreatic trauma is evolving. Our experience provides valuable and locally relevant insights into future management *** We advocate that high-grade pancreatic trauma should be managed in high-volume hepatopancreato-biliary specialty surgical units. Pancreatic resections including PD may be indicated and safely performed with appropriate specialist surgical, gastroenterology, and interventional radiology support in tertiary centres.

Use of FBG Sensors for SHM in Aerospace Structures

This paper details some significant findings on the use of the fiber Bragg grating （FBG） sensors for structural health monitoring （SHM） in aerospace fiber reinforced polymer （FRP） structures. A diminutive sensor provides a capability of imbedding inside FRP structures to monitor vital locations of damage. Some practical problems associated with the implementation of FBG based SHM systems in the aerospace FRP structures such as the difficulty of embedding FBG sensors during the manufacturing process and interrelation of distortion to FBG spectra due to internal damage, and other independent effects will be thoroughly studied. An innovative method to interpret FBG signals for identifying damage inside the structures will also be discussed.

Earthquake prediction is currently the most crucial task required for the probability,hazard,risk mapping,and mitigation *** prediction attracts the researchers'attention from both academia and ***,the risk assessment approaches have used various traditional and machine learning ***,deep learning techniques have been rarely tested for earthquake probability ***,this study develops a convolutional neural network(CNN)model for earthquake probability assessment in NE *** conducts vulnerability using analytical hierarchy process(AHP),Venn's intersection theory for hazard,and integrated model for risk mapping.A prediction of classification task was performed in which the model predicts magnitudes more than 4 Mw that considers nine *** classification results and intensity variation were then used for probability and hazard mapping,***,earthquake risk map was produced by multiplying hazard,vulnerability,and coping *** vulnerability was prepared by using six vulnerable factors,and the coping capacity was estimated by using the number of hospitals and associated variables,including budget available for disaster *** CNN model for a probability distribution is a robust technique that provides good *** show that CNN is superior to the other algorithms,which completed the classification prediction task with an accuracy of 0.94,precision of 0.98,recall of 0.85,and F1 score of *** indicators were used for probability mapping,and the total area of hazard(21,412.94 km^(2)),vulnerability(480.98 km^(2)),and risk(34,586.10 km^(2))was estimated.

Changes in particulate and mineral-associated organic carbon with land use in contrasting soils

Soil organic carbon(SOC)is the largest terrestrial carbon(C)stock,and the capacity of soils to preserve organic C(OC)varies with many factors,including land use,soil type,and soil *** investigated the effect of land use change on soil particulate organic matter(POM)and mineral-associated organic matter(MOM).Surface(0–10 cm)and subsurface(60–70 cm)samples were collected from paired sites(native and cropped)of four contrasting *** soils were separated into POM and MOM fractions,which were analyzed for mineralogy,OC,nitrogen,isotopic signatures,*** POM fractions of surface soils were relatively unaffected by land use change,possibly because of the continuous input of crop residues,whereas the POM fractions in corresponding subsurface soils lost more *** surface soils,MOM fractions dominated by the oxides of iron and aluminum(oxide-OM)lost more OC than those dominated by phyllosilicates and quartz,which was attributed to diverse organic matter(OM)input and the extent of OC saturation limit of *** contrast,oxide-OM fractions were less affected than the other two MOM fractions in the subsurface soils,possibly due to OC protection via organo-mineral *** deviations in isotopic signature(linked with vegetation)across the fractions suggested that fresh crop residues constituted the bulk of OM in surface soils(supported by greater14C).Increased isotopic signatures and lower14C in subsurface MOM fractions suggested the association of more microbially processed,aged OC with oxide-OM fractions than with the other MOM *** results reveal that the quantity and quality of OC after land use change is influenced by the nature of C input in surface soils and by mineral-organic association in subsurface soils.

Pentacoordinated Al(Al~Ⅴ)species in silica-alumina are promising to promote the formation of acid sites or act as surface defects for tailoring single-atom ***,pentahedral coordination(Al~Ⅴ)is rarely observed in conventionally prepared ***,we show that high population and dispersion of Al~Ⅴ species on the surface of amorphous silica-alumina(ASA)can be achieved by means of flame spray *** resolution TEM/EDX,high magnetic-field NMR and DFT calculations are employed to characterize the structure of as-prepared ***-state ^(27)Al multi-quantum MAS NMR experiments show that most of the Al~Ⅴspecies are formed independently from the alumina phase and are accessible for guest molecules on the *** water adsorption,these Al~Ⅴ species are transformed to Al~Ⅵ species,structurally similar to surface Al~Ⅳ species,as confirmed by DFT *** outstanding catalytic activity of as-synthesized ASA is demonstrated using the in situ H/D exchange reaction with deuterated benzene as an *** Al~Ⅴ-rich ASA provides a much lower activation energy(～30 kJ/mol)than that reported for zeolite H-ZSM-5(～60 kJ/mol).The superior catalytic performance is attributed to the high Al~Ⅴcontent promoting the surface active sites in *** knowledge gained on the synthesis of Al~Ⅴ-rich ASAs and the nature of aluminum coordination in these materials could pave the way to more efficient silica-alumina based catalysts.
