Study on the flow structure in curved open channels with suspended vegetation using multi relaxation time lattice Boltzmann method

Suspended vegetation in rivers,lakes,reservoirs and canals can change flow structure,which will in turn affect the sediment transport and cause the variation of water ecological *** order to study the characteristics of bend flow through suspended vegetation,three-dimensional numerical simulations are carried out by using the multi-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann method(MRT-LBM).The drag force induced by vegetation is added in the velocity correction in the equilibrium distribution and a hybrid format combined bounce and specular reflection scheme is applied in the solid-fluid *** the validation of this model,six cases are designed to conduct the numerical simulations according to the root depth and the arrangement of *** simulated results show that the suspended vegetation can redistribute the flow structure in curved open *** the arrangement of suspended vegetation,the main flow moves to the side without vegetation,and the distribution of velocity tends to be balanced when vegetation is arranged on the entire cross section,the range of circulating current is reduced from the whole cross section to the local position without vegetation,however,the circulating current can still exist in the curve where the suspended vegetation enters less than half of the water *** addition,it can also be concluded that the suspended vegetation can affect the lateral gradient of flow velocity,and the bed shear stress in the curved channel.

Ranking environmental projects model based on multicriteria decision-making and the weight sensitivity analysis

With the fast growth of Chinese economic, more and more capital will be invested in environmental projects. How to select the environmental investment projects （alternatives） for obtaining the best environmental quality and economic benefits is an important problem for the decision makers. The purpose of this paper is to develop a decision-making model to rank a finite number of alternatives with several and sometimes conflicting criteria. A model for ranking the projects of municipal sewage treatment plants is proposed by using exports＇ information and the data of the real projects. And, the ranking result is given based on the PROMETHEE method. Furthermore, by means of the concept of the weight stability intervals （WSI）, the sensitivity of the ranking results to the size of criteria values and the change of weights value of criteria are discussed. The result shows that some criteria, such as “proportion of benefit to project cost”, will influence the ranking result of alternatives very strong while others not. The influence are not only from the value of criterion but also from the changing the weight of criterion. So, some criteria such as “proportion of benefit to project cost” are key critera for ranking the projects. Decision makers must be cautious to them.

An Explicit Solution for Thermal Calculation and Synthesis of Super-structure Heat Exchanger Networks

For the optimal design of a heat exchanger network,the inlet and outlet stream temperatures of each heat exchanger in the network should be *** explicit analytical solution of stream temperatures of an arbi-trary connected heat exchanger network was introduced,which is suitable for the thermal calculation of heat ex-changer *** the heat exchanger network synthesis,this solution was further developed and coupled with the stage-wise superstructure heat exchanger *** new calculation procedure reduced the computer mem-ory requirement *** the basis of this solution,a mathematical model for synthesis of heat exchanger networks with genetic algorithm was formulated,which is always feasible and no iteration is *** examples were calculated with the proposed approach and better results were obtained.

Stochastic resonance is a phenomenon in which adding random noise to a system enhances the detection or transmission of a weak signal. It occurs when the noise interacts with the system's nonlinearity, thus improving signal-to-noise ratio and increasing sensitivity. Although parametric resonances in an atomic spinor Bose-Einstein condensate have been investigated, the question of whether one can observe stochastic resonance in such a system persists. In this study we propose a scheme for generating stochastic resonance in a cavity-spinor Bose-Einstein condensate coupling system. We demonstrate stochastic resonance through numerical calculations using the mean-field theory and truncated Wigner approximation methods. Furthermore, the characteristics of the system's response to noise and periodic signals are studied in detail. This study unravels a new scheme for observing stochastic resonance via linking atomic many-body physics with cavity quantum electrodynamics.

FABRICATION OF TRANSPARENT PU/ZrO_2 NANOCOMPOSITE COATINGS WITH HIGH REFRACTIVE INDEX

Transparent ZrO2-polyurethane nanocomposites with high refractive index were prepared by dispersing ZrO2 nanoparticles in a polyurethane matrix via ligand molecule engineering. TEM showed that the inorganic particles were well dispersed within the polymeric network with no significant macroscopic agglomeration. By controlling the phase separation it was possible to obtain transparent zirconia nanostructured coatings, characterized by improved mechanical and thermal properties. UV-Vis spectra indicated that the coatings still maintained transparency in the visible light. The refractive index of the UV-cured films depends linearly on the ZrO2 content and varies from 1.475 to 1.625 （20 wt%） at 633 nm. These coatings could find advanced applications in coatings of optical and electronic devices.

Functional β-Cyclodextrin Coating by Electrodeposition on Stainless Steel for Drug Loading and Release

β-Cyclodextrin（β-CD） can be used for drug loading and release in biomedical application, β-Cyclodextrin- salicylate（β-CD-S） was synthesized by transesterification and then was electrodeposited on the surface of stainless steel（SS） by the anodic electrooxidation polymerization of the salicylate. 1H NMR spectrometry was used to determine the structure offl-CD-S. FTIR spectroscopy and XPS were applied to verifying the synthesized β-CD-S and the existence of the electrodeposited layer on the SS surface, respectively. Tafel plots and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy（EIS） technologies were used to estimate the corrosion resistance of β-CD-covered stainless steel. Electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance was applied to determining the drug loading of the stainless steel before and after its modification. E. coli was selected as a harmful microbe to evaluate the antibacterial properties of the stainless steel with the comparison of optical density values.

Effect of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation on weaning success in patients receiving invasive mechanical ventilation： a meta-analysis

Background Noninvasive positive pressure ventilation （NIPPV） has been proposed to shorten the duration of mechanical ventilation in intubated patients, especially those who fail initial weaning from invasive mechanical ventilation （IMV）. However, there are also some discrepancies in terms of weaning success or failure, incidence of re-intubation, complications observed during study and patient outcomes. The primary objective of this update was to specifically investigate the role of NIPPV on facilitating weaning and avoiding re-intubation in patients intubated for different etiologies of acute respiratory failure, by comparing with conventional invasive weaning approach. Methods We searched randomized controlled trials （RCTs） comparing noninvasive weaning of early extubation and immediate application of NIPPV with invasive weaning in intubated patients from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Knowledge and Springerlink databases. Records from conference proceedings and reference lists of relevant studies were also identified. Results A total of 11 RCTs with 623 patients were available for the present analysis. Compared with IMV, NIPPV significantly increased weaning success rates （odds ratio （OR）： 2.50, 95% confidence interval （C/）： 1.46-4.30, P=0.0009）, decreased mortality （OR： 0.39, 95% CI： 0.20-0.75, P=0.005）, and reduced the incidence of ventilator associated pneumonia （VAP）（OR： 0.17, 95% CI： 0.08-0.37, P 〈0.00001） and complications （OR： 0.22, 95% CI： 0.07-0.72, P=0.01）. However, effect of NIPPV on re-intubation did not reach statistical difference （OR： 0.61, 95% CI： 0.33-1.11, P=0.11）. Conclusions Early extubation and immediate application of NIPPV is superior to conventional invasive weaning approach in increasing weaning success rates, decreasing the risk of mortality and reducing the incidence of VAP and complications, in patients who need weaning from IMV. Fitting function representation for strain fields and its application to the optimizing process

A fitted function method to describe the strain fields during forging was discussed to optimize the homogeneous distribution of strain in the axial forging zones during successive stretching. The results are verified by experiment and numerical simulation, and the devia-tions between experiment and simulation are less than 24%. Therefore, the fitted function method can be applied to optimize the stretching process for large forgings. The optimal value of feed determined by the analytic method ensures that the degree of inhomogeneity in strain in the axial ingot zone is less than 6%. This work provides a mathematic model to optimize technological parameters in stretch forging of large ingots.

NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF 3-D TURBULENT FLOW IN THE MULTI-INTAKES SUMP OF THE PUMP STATION

In this article, a numerical model forthree-dimensional turbulent flow in the sump of the pumpstation was presented. A reasonable boundary condition for the flow in the sump with several water intakes at different flowrates was proposed. The finite volume method was employed tosolve the governing equations with the body fitted gridgenerated by the multi-block grid technique. By using theFluent software, the fluid flow in a model sump of the pumpstation was calculated. Compared with the experimental result,the numerical result of the example is fairly good.
