Deep Learning in Predicting Preterm Birth:A Comparative Study of Machine Learning Algorithms

Objective:To determine whether deep learning algorithms are suitable for predicting preterm ***:A retrospective study was conducted at peking university third hospital from January 2018 to June *** data were divided into two parts based on the date of delivery:the first part was used for model training and validation,while real world viability was evaluated using the second *** machine learning algorithms(logistic regression,random forest,support vector machine,and transformer)were employed to predict preterm *** operating characteristic curves were plotted,and the area under the curve(AUC),sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value(PPV),negative predictive value(NPV),and accuracy were ***:This research included data on 30,965 births,where 24,770 comprised the first part,and included 3164(12.77%)in the preterm birth group,with 6195 in the second part,including 795(12.83%)in the preterm birth *** differences in various factors were observed between the preterm and full-term birth *** transformer model(AUC=79.20%,sensitivity=73.67%,specificity=72.48%,PPV=28.21%,NPV=94.95%,and accuracy=72.61%in the test dataset)demonstrated superior performance relative to logistic regression(AUC=77.96%in the test dataset),support vectormachine(AUC=71.70%in the test dataset),and random forest(AUC=75.09%in the test dataset)***:This study highlights the promise of deep learning algorithms,specifically the transformer algorithm,for predicting pretermbirth.

To the Editor:Assessment of data appropriateness is a process to answer whether electronic health records(EHRs)from routine healthcare practices couldt intended study purposes,for example,available to be proceeded,with enough individual records,with relevant information able to be extracted from records,etc.[1-3]This has been increasingly underscored as a prerequisite when using EHRs(one important type of real-world data[RWD])for scientic purposes.[4-6]Although controversies remain on the denitions,types and assessment methods of the dimensions of RWD appropriateness,the latest ofcial guidelines(i.e.,from the *** and Drug Administration[FDA][4]and China National Medical Products Administration[NMPA][6])suggest that the assessment start from a preliminary stage on variable existence,and subsequently deepen into the issue of data value(such as missing value,outliers,etc.),as the preliminary assessment is the foundation of the overall RWD appropriateness.[7]Little is known about the appropriateness of EHRs in developing regions,which feature high visit volumes and a great number of ***,this study aimed to preliminarily investigate RWD appropriateness from hospitals in developing regions from the perspective of core variables’comparison.

Targeting LTA4H facilitates the reshaping of the immune microenvironment mediated by CCL5 and sensitizes ovarian cancer to Cisplatin

Ovarian cancer is the most lethal and aggressive gynecological cancer with a high recurrence rate and is often diagnosed *** ovarian cancer,multiple metabolic enzymes of lipid metabolism are abnormally expressed,resulting in metabolism *** a characteristic pathway in polyunsaturated fatty acid(PUFA)metabolism,arachidonic acid(AA)metabolism is disturbed in ovarian ***,we established a 10-gene signature model to evaluate the prognostic risk of PUFA-related *** 10-gene signature has strong robustness and can play a stable predictive role in datasets of various platforms(TCGA,ICGC,and GSE17260).The high association between the risk subgroups and clinical characteristics indicated a good performance of the *** data further indicated that the high expression of LTA4H was positively correlated with poor prognosis in ovarian *** of LTA4H enhanced sensitivity to Cisplatin and modified the characteristics of immune cell infiltration in ovarian ***,our results indicate that CCL5 was involved in the aberrant metabolism of the AA/LTA4H axis,which contributes to the reduction of tumor-infiltrating CD8+T cells and immune escape in ovarian *** findings provide new insights into the prognosis and potential target of LTA4H/CCL5 in treating ovarian cancer.

Prognostic ability of the neoadjuvant rectal(NAR)score in long-course concurrent chemoradiotherapy for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer:a retrospective cohort study

Background:The aims of this study were to evaluate the prognostic ability of the neoadjuvant rectal(NAR)score and to develop and validate a nomogram based on the NAR for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer(LARC)treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy(nCRT).Methods:In total,307 patients,including 230 patients from the primary cohort and 77 from the external cohort,were enrolled across the two *** associations of the NAR score with the tumor response,tumor control,and clinicopathological parameters were *** analysis was performed in the primary and external cohorts using Kaplan‒Meier *** and multivariate analyses were performed to evaluate the prognostic *** NAR-based nomogram was developed in the primary cohort and validated in the external cohort using the concordance index(C-index),calibration plots,and decision curve analyses(DCAs).Results:Kaplan‒Meier survival analysis revealed that the disease-free survival(DFS)and overall survival(OS)of the NAR>16 group were significantly lower than those of the NAR≤16 group(pclinical ***,the C-indexes of the NAR-based nomograms were better than those of the other variables in both the primary and external ***:Our study validates the prognostic role of the NAR score for DFS and *** NAR-based nomogram for OS could accurately predict the outcome of LARC patients by stratifying the risk score accordingly.

Revision rhinoplasty for contracted nose:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background:This study aimed to review treatments and evaluate the aesthetic outcomes,complications,and reoperation rates regarding surgical correction for a postoperative contracted ***:PubMed,MEDLINE,and Embase databases were searched for studies detailing aesthetic outcomes and complications of surgical correction of a contracted *** procedures,adjuvant treatment,outcomes,and complications were synthesized and ***:Nine articles encompassing 376 patients were included in the systematic review,and six articles(198 participants)were included in the *** most frequently used graft material was the autologous rib cartilage(61.1%).Surgical procedures were heterogeneous in these *** nasolabial angle reduced by 9.52°(95%confidence interval(CI):(-11.95,-7.09),P<0.0001),and the nasal length increased significantly(standardized mean difference(SMD)=2.25,95%CI:(1.26,2.23),P<0.00001).However,the evidence was insufficient to determine a significant change in the columellar-labial angle(SMD=-0.95,95%CI:(-2.19,0.29),P=0.13)and columellar-lobular angle(SMD=2.39,95%CI:(-1.20,5.97),P=0.19).Aesthetic dissatisfaction(12.5%)and infection(4.5%)were the most commonly reported *** was performed in 5.3%of ***:Surgical correction can increase the nasal length,reduce the nasolabial angle,and have a low reoperation *** significant improvement in the columellar-labial or columellar-lobular angle was observed.
