Nonylphenol（NP） and bisphenol A（BPA） are endocrine disruptors causing harmful effects including feminization and carcinogenesis to various organisms,and consequently,their contamination in natural environment has received wide *** study reports the distribution characteristics of NP and BPA in surface sediments and their deposition history based on a dated sediment core in the Changjiang River（Yangtze River） Estuary and its adjacent East china *** contents of NP and BPA in surface sediments ranged from 1.56-35.8 and 0.72-13.2 ng/g（dry mass）,respectively,with high values recorded in the two mud zones,the Changjiang River Estuarine Mud Zone and the Zhejiang Coastal Mud *** values in the Zhejiang Coastal Mud Zone suggest the possibility of long distance transport of both contaminants through the Changjiang riverine *** contents were not correlated with the distance from the pollution source,indicating other factors including particle deposition rate and sediment grain size obviously affecting the distribution *** was also detected in a sediment core at layers deposited from the year of 1971 to 2001 with contents of up to 20.9 ng/g（dry mass）.The deposition fluxes of NP varied from 0.68 to 17.9 ng/（cm^2 · a） with peaks and valleys reflecting the traces of economic development history in china during the previous three *** was detected at sediment layers deposited from 1973 to 2001 with contents of up to 3.66 ng/*** fluxes of BPA varied from 0.62 to 3.13 ng/（cm^2 · a） showing a similar pattern as *** contents of NP and BPA also indicated potential risks on benthic organisms in the study area.

Water temperature,turbidity,chlorophyll-a and suspended sediment concentration （SSC） were investigated at 61 stations of eight sections in the southern Huanghai Sea （HS） and the East china Sea （ECS） during the summer （28 June to 15 July） of *** horizontal distribution of suspended parti culate matter （SPM） displayed a high concentration inshore and a low value *** maximum value can reach 10.4 mg/dm 3,which can be found at the Changjiang River *** the same site,the SSC was generally higher at the bottom than on the *** the vertical direction,distribution characteristics of turbidity can be divided into two types：in the southern HS high values at the bottom while low values on the surface,and in the ECS high values inshore with low values *** thermocline in the HS and the Taiwan Warm Current in the ECS could be important factors preventing the SPM from diffusing upward and *** the typhoon Ewiniar was not able to work on the major sediment transport under the thermocline during the observation.

Analysis of tidal current and sea level has been made based on the observations from the summer of 2006 to the winter of 2007,*** result indicates that a two-layer structure of residual current exists in summer,with its upper layer going northwestward and the lower layer *** addition,some strong residuals exist in the neighboring depth of the pycnocline during the current period of astronomical *** winter,except some individual layersthe residual currents mostly direct to the northwest,from which we can see the fluctuation of abnormal sea-level and the appearance of associated current because of the changes of the wind *** analysis of tidal ellipse indicates that the direction of the maximum semidiurnal component is clockwise from summer to winter,with an angle of ***,in summer the semidiurnal component rotates with depth clockwise while the diurnal component ***,the vertical structure is almost homogeneous in winter.

A bloom caused by a diatom, Thalassiosira curviseriata Takano （Bacillariophyta） , is recorded in the East china Sea for the first time in china during a red tide investigation cruise （MC2005 -2） from 27 March to 12 April 2005. This bloom was developed with the competition of Chaetoceros debilis and Skeletonema spp. The highest cell density of T. curviseriata, which has reached 1.27 × 10^6 cells/dm3, was found in the surface and middle water layers of Stas ZD, ZB in the East china Sea （27. 22°-29.48°N, 121.53° - 122. 98°E）in early spring in 2005. During the blooming period of T. curviseriata, the population with high cell density was found in the water area with temperature of 10 -15 ℃ and salinity of 29.0 - 33.5. The percentage of the predominant species, T. curviseriata, has reached 95.8% of total diatom cells at one time in the middle water layer. The morphological characteristics of T. curviseriata, were observed with light microscope （LM） and transmission electronic microscope （TEM）. The cells are 5.0 - 12. 6 μm in diameter, connecting each other by mucilaginous thread to form spiral and curved chains. Description and LM and TEM images of T. curviseriata are presented. T. curviseriata is ecologically characterized by eurythermy and euryhalinity, and its population variation is affected mainly by silicate, the ratios of phosphorus to silicon and nitrogen to silicon.

Long-term changes of phytoplankton community by water sampling method in Xiagu Sea waters of Xiamen,china,were investigated in this *** composition of the phytoplankton community in these waters changed greatly since the *** numbers of Dinophyta species increased significantly,although Bacillariophyta species are generally *** succession of dominant species in phytoplankton community is obvious： large-size dominant species such as Biddulphia sinensis of the 1950s were gradually replaced by small-size ones such as Cyclotella striata and Nitzschia closterium,and species that still maintain dominant such as Skeletonema costatum are also small ones,leading the whole phytoplankton community of smaller *** density of phytoplankton community increased greatly,among which cell density of the most dominant species Skeletonema costatum have been increasing in exponent *** index of phytoplankton community decreased,indicating decline of biodiversity of the community,and dominant character of Skeletonema costatum ***,the structure of the entire phytoplankton community is becoming more and more singular and unstable,which makes the occurrence of red tides more *** succession in the phytoplankton community is related to the long-term changes in marine environment,influenced by human activities and global climate changes,especially the increases of nutrient content.
