From waste to wealth:Coal tar residue derived carbon materials as low-cost anodes for potassium-ion batteries

Carbon materials are widely recognized as highly promising electrode materials for various energy storage system *** tar residues(CTR),as a type of carbon-rich solid waste with high value-added utilization,are crucially important for the development of a more sustainable *** this study,we employed a straightforward direct carbonization method within the temperature range of 700-1000℃to convert the worthless solid waste CTR into economically valuable carbon materials as anodes for potassium-ion batteries(PIBs).The effect of carbonization temperature on the microstructure and the potassium ions storage properties of CTR-derived carbons(CTRCs)were systematically explored by structural and morphological characterization,alongside electrochemical performances *** on the co-regulation between the turbine layers,crystal structure,pore structure,functional groups,and electrical conductivity of CTR-derived carbon carbonized at 900℃(CTRC-900H),the electrode material with high reversible capacity of 265.6m Ah·g^(-1)at 50 m A·g^(-1),a desirable cycling stability with 93.8%capacity retention even after 100 cycles,and the remarkable rate performance for PIBs were ***,cyclic voltammetry(CV)at different scan rates and galvanostatic intermittent titration technique(GITT)have been employed to explore the potassium ions storage mechanism and electrochemical kinetics of *** indicate that the electrode behavior is predominantly governed by surface-induced capacitive processes,particularly under high current densities,with the potassium storage mechanism characterized by an“adsorption-weak intercalation”*** work highlights the potential of CTR-based carbon as a promising electrode material category suitable for high-performance PIBs electrodes,while also provides valuable insights into the new avenues for the high value-added utilization of CTR.

Graphene Quantum Wells and Superlattices Driven by Periodic Linear Potential

The transfer matrices for both nonsingular and singular cases are constructed to ensure efficient and accurate numerical computation on the electronic and transport properties of graphene quantum wells and superlattices driven by periodic linear *** intuitive interpretation is given for the evolution behavior of the current flowing through the multiple graphene quantum wells/barriers by analyzing the interrelationship among the transmission,bias voltage,incident velocity,and linear potential *** energy minibands and density of states of the graphene superlattices with different periods are also examined by using analytical and numerical methods,showing that the period of superlattices plays a crucial role in energy bands and density of states.

Microwave absorption and thermal properties of coral-like SiC aerogel composites prepared by water glass as a silicon source

As a heat-resistant wave-absorbing material,silicon carbide(SiC)aerogel has become a research hotspot at ***,the most common silicon sources are organosilanes,which are costly and *** this work,SiC aerogels were successfully prepared by using water glass as the silicon ***,the microstructure and chemical composition of SiC aerogels were controlled by adjusting the Si to C molar ratio during the sol–gel process,and the effect on SiC aerogel microwave absorption properties was *** SiC aerogels prepared with Si:C molar ratio of 1:1 have an effective electromagnetic wave absorption capacity,with a minimum reflection loss value of-46.30 dB at 12.88 GHz and an effective frequency bandwidth of 4.02 *** also have good physical properties,such as the density of0.0444 g/cm^(3),the thermal conductivity of 0.0621 W/(m·K),and the specific surface area of 1099 m^(2)/*** lightweight composites with microwave-absorbing properties and low thermal conductivity can be used as thermal protection materials for space shuttles and reusable carriers.

A new selective fluorescent probe for lead ions

A new fluorescent probe （BPbl） for Pb^2＋ has been synthesized, where diethanolamine （receptor） is linked with 4,4-difluoro-4- bora-3a, 4a-diaza-s-indacene （BODIPY）（fluorophore） via a methylene group （spacer）. The absorption （496 nm） and emission （505 nm） wavelengths are in visible range. The fluorescence quantum yields of the lead-free and lead-bound states of BPb1 in acetonitrile are 0.013 and 0.693, respectively. The large chelation enhanced fluorescence effect （CHEF） with Pb^2＋ can be explained by the blocking of the photoinduced electron transfer （PET） process.

Effects of lanthanum on abscisic acid regulation of root growth in Arabidopsis

Rare earth elements （REEs） were reported to have adverse biology effects on plant growth and production. However, whether REEs are involved in plant hormone abscisic acid signal is not clear. Here we reported that REE lanthanum （La） interacted with abscisic acid （ABA） in the regulation of seed germination and root growth in model plant Arabidopsis. La3＋at a concentration of 10 μmol/L alleviated ABA depression of seed germination and reversed ABA inhibition of root elongation growth in Arabidopsis. Previous studies showed that ABA could promote root hair development. In the present study, La3＋inhibited root hair development promoted by ABA. Moreover, La3＋inhibited H2O2 generation induced by ABA in root cells. Therefore we inferred that La3＋might interact with ABA upstream of H2O2 generation.

Effect of surface self-nanocrystallization and Si infiltration on Si diffusion behavior, hardness and magnetic properties of pure Fe

Surface nanocrystallization of pure Fe was performed using an improved surface treatment process. The phase transformation and Si infiltration depth of the pure Fe before and after surface mechanical attrition treatment （SMAT） were compared by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The results indicated that nanocrystallization of Fe surface was achieved using SMAT, which resulted in deeper penetration of Si. Prolonging time of SMAT and Si infiltration also resulted in increasing microhardness, with the hardness first increasing with increasing distance from the surface and then decreasing. Furthermore, longer Si infiltration time, nanocrystallization of Si and longer SMAT time resulted in higher saturation magnetization （MS）. The greatest Si penetration depth （150 μm）, maximum hardness （280 HV）, and maximum MS （1.849 × 10^6 A/m） were achieved after SMAT for 45 min and Si infiltration for 9 h. The interaction between adjacent grains after surface nanocrystallization leads to a region of the magnetic domain wall structure located at the grain boundary, which causes the remanence enhancement effect.
