ON SPECTRAL METHODS FOR VOLTERRA INTEGRAL EQUATIONS AND THE CONVERGENCE ANALYSIS

The main purpose of this work is to provide a novel numerical approach for the Volterra integral equations based on a spectral approach. A Legendre-collocation method is proposed to solve the Volterra integral equations of the second kind. We provide a rigorous error analysis for the proposed method, which indicates that the numerical errors decay exponentially provided that the kernel function and the source function are sufficiently smooth. Numerical results confirm the theoretical prediction of the exponential rate of convergence. The result in this work seems to be the first successful spectral approach （with theoretical justification） for the Volterra type equations.

Urocortin and other hypothalamus corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) polypeptides play biologically diverse roles in the stress, cardiovascular and inflammatory responses by acting on central and peripheral CRF receptors. Urocortin shows a significantly high sequence homology to CRF, and the concurrent expression of type-2 CRF (CRF2) receptors with urocortin in the heart suggests that urocortin may play a physiological role in the cardiac function. Urocortin is thought to be the endogenous agonist producing the cardiovascular actions previously attributed to CRF. This review highlights the current novel findings on the molecular and cellular mechanisms by which urocortin may exert its cardiovascular protective action.

Human embryonic kidney 293 cells were transfected with plasmid pcDNA-H520C9scFv-rhIL- 2 containing a chimeric cDNA encoding the humanized 520C9 scFv/recombinant human IL-2 fusion protein (H520C9scFv-rhIL-2). The transfected cells in plateau growing phase were cultured in serum-free medium for three days. The supernatant was collected, concentrated and purified using an affinity column packed with CNBr-activated Sepharose 4B coupled with anti-rhIL-2 mouse monoclonal antibody. The purified fusion protein was analyzed by ELISA, SDS-PAGE and Western blot. The fusion protein showed only one band in both silver stained electrophoresis gel and Western blot developed by ECL chemiluminescence system. Its molecular weight was confirmed to be about 45 kD. This fusion protein possessed binding specificity against p185 positive SKOV3 and B16/neu cells, and it might stimulate IL-2-dependent CTLL-2 cell prolifera- tion as well.

The formation of disinfection by-products（DBPs） from the degradation of N,N-diethyl-3-methyl benzoyl amide（DEET） and ibuprofen（IBP） by the ultraviolet irradiation（UV）/chlorine process and subsequent post-chlorination was investigated and compared with the UV/H_2O_2 *** pseudo first-order rate constants of the degradation of DEET and IBP by the UV/chlorine process were 2 and 3.1 times higher than those by the UV/H_2O_2 process, respectively, under the tested conditions. This was due to the significant contributions of both reactive chlorine species U（RCS） and hydroxyl radicals（HO） in the UV/chlorine process. Trichloromethane, 1,1,1-trichloro-2-propanone and dichloroacetic acid were the major known DBPs formed after 90% of both DEET and IBP that were degraded by the UV/chlorine process. Their yields increased by over 50%after subsequent 1-day post-chlorination. The detected DBPs after the degradation of DEET and IBP comprised 13.5% and 19.8% of total organic chlorine（TOCl）, respectively, and the proportions increased to 19.8% and 33.9% after subsequent chlorination, respectively. In comparison to the UV/H_2O_2 process accompanied with post-chlorination, the formation of DBPs and TOCl in the UV/chlorine process together with post-chlorination was 5%–63% higher,Ulikely due to the generation of more DBP precursors from the attack of RCS, in addition to HO.

Wearable strain sensing textile based on one-dimensional stretchable and weavable yarn sensors

Flexible, wearable, and even stretchable sensors are the key components of smart electronic textiles. However, most reported flexible and wearable sensors for wearable electronics are usually fabricated in two-dimensional (2D) planar strip configurations, which cannot be properly integrated into textile structures and thus greatly degrade intrinsic properties such as the softness, flexibility, and air permeability of textiles and the aesthetic feeling of clothing. In this work, a new one-dimensional weavable strain sensing yarn consisting of an elastic polyurethane (PU) core, a conductive Ag-nanoparticles/graphene-microsheets composite sheath, and a silicone encapsulation layer was designed and fabricated through an easily manipulated protocol. Arising from the reasonable structural design and appropriate material selection, the as-fabricated strain sensor not only exhibited excellent flexibility, stretchability, and highly repeatable electromechanical stability (a repeatability error of 1.56%) but also possessed both high sensitivity (a gauge factor of nearly 500) and a relatively wide working range (0–50% applied strain) with good linearity (a correlation coefficient of 0.98). In addition, the facile, nearly all-solution-based fabrication protocol enabled the scalable production of long conductive yarns. Thus, the proper yarn length and superb mechanical properties endowed the stretchable conductive yarn with good weavability. The excellent wearability of the stretchable conductive yarn was derived from the outermost isolating, hydrophobic, and biocompatible silicone encapsulation layer. A wearable high-sensitivity strain sensing textile, fabricated by directly weaving the as-prepared yarn-based sensor, showed great potential for application to wearable textile sensors for real-time monitoring of human motions from vigorous walking to subtle and complex pronunciations.

Error Analysis of Adsorption Isotherm Models for Acid Dyes onto Bamboo Derived Activated Carbon

High surface area activated carbons were produced by thermal activation of waste bamboo scaffolding with phosphoric *** component equilibrium dye adsorption was conducted on the carbons produced and compared with a commercially available *** acid dyes with different molecular sizes,namely Acid Yellow 117(AY117) and Acid Blue 25(AB25),were used to evaluate the adsorption capacity of the produced *** was found that the dye with smaller molecular size,AB 25,was readily adsorbed onto the produced carbon,nearly three times higher than a commercially available carbon,while the larger size dye,AY117,showed little *** experimental data were analyzed using isotherm equations including Langmuir,Freundlich,Tempkin,Toth,Redlich-Peterson and Sips *** equilibrium data were then analyzed using five different non-linear error analysis methods.

Quantification of non-coding RNA target localization diversity and its application in cancers

SubceUular localization is pivotal for RNAs and proteins to implement biological functions. The localization diversity of protein interactions has been studied as a crucial feature of proteins, considering that the protein-protein interactions take place in vari- ous subceltutar locations. Nevertheless, the localization diversity of non-coding RNA （ncRNA） target proteins has not been sys- tematically studied, especially its characteristics in cancers. In this study, we provide a new algorithm, non-coding RNA target localization coefficient （ncTALENT）, to quantify the target localization diversity of ncRNAs based on the ncRNA-protein interaction and protein subcellular localization data. ncTALENT can be used to calculate the target localization coefficient of ncRNAs and measure how diversely their targets are distributed among the subcellular locations in various scenarios. We focus our study on long non-coding RNAs （IncRNAs）, and our observations reveal that the target localization diversity is a primary characteristic of IncRNAs in different biotypes. Moreover, we found that IncRNAs in multiple cancers, differentially expressed cancer IncRNAs, and IncRNAs with multiple cancer target proteins are prone to have high target localization diversity. Furthermore, the analysis of gastric cancer helps us to obtain a better understanding that the target localization diversity of IncRNAs is an important feature closely related to clinical prognosis. Overall, we systematically studied the target localization diversity of the IncRNAs and uncovered its association with cancer.

Efficient photocatalytic degradation of NO by ceramic foam air filters coated with mesoporous TiO_2 thin films

Ceramic foam air filters with three-dimensional（3D） porous structures and high surface areas were coated with mesoporous TiO 2 thin films by the reverse micellar method. The mesoporous TiO 2 thin films efficiently photocatalytically degraded nitrogen oxide（NO）. More than 92.5% of NO was degraded in a single pass for air filter samples containing different pore densities. The 3D porous structure of the ceramic air filters enhanced flow turbulence and mixing. This provided the catalytic system with excellent gas-dynamic properties,and sufficient contact between the reactant gas and catalyst surface. The higher pore density of the ceramic foam filters resulted in a higher photocatalytic rate. More adsorption sites for water vapor and the reactant and product gases improved the photocatalytic activity. The porous ceramic air filters coated with mesoporous TiO 2 had large surface areas,and thus high photocatalytic activity. This overcame the common disadvantages associated with using powdered TiO 2 photocatalysts on substrates. The 3D porous ceramic foam filters coated with mesoporous TiO 2 thin films exhibited a higher photocatalytic degradation rate of NO in air than the same thin film deposited on flat ceramic tiles. No deactivation was observed. A consistently high NO degradation rate was obtained between reaction cycles for the TiO 2-coated 3D porous ceramic filters.

Since the complication of monitoring and evaluating the problems about the transgenic expression and its impacts on the receptor in the transgenic crop breeding and other relevant evaluated works,the authors in the present work tried to assess the differences of spectral parameters of the transgenic rice in contrast with its parent group quantitatively and qualitatively,fulfilling the growth monitoring of the transgenic *** spectral parameters(spectral morphological characteristics and indices) chosen are highly related to internal or external stresses to the receipts,and thus could be applied as indicators of biophysical or biochemical processes changes of *** ASD portable field spectroradiometer with high-density probe,fine foliar spectra of 8 groups were *** analyzing spectral angle and continuum removal,the spectral morphological differences and their locations of sample spectra were found which could be as auxiliary priori knowledge for quantitative *** investigating spectral indices of the samples,the quantitative differences of spectra were revealed about foliar chlorophyll a+b and carotenoid *** this study both the spectral differences between transgenic and parent groups and among transgenic groups were *** results show that hyperspectral technique is promising and a helpful auxiliary tool in the study of monitoring the transgenic crop and other relevant *** this technique,quantitative and qualitative results of sample spectra could be provided as prior knowledge,as certain orientation,for laboratory professional advanced transgenic breeding study.
