Methanol oxidation on smooth Pt electrode modified with different coverage of Ru was studied using cyclic voltammetry and potential step combined with differential electrochemical mass spectroscopy. The current efficiency of formed CO 2 was calculated from faraday current and ion current of m/z =44. The results show that Ru modified Pt electrode with the coverage of ca . 0 3 has the highest catalytic activity for methanol electrooxidation, i.e. faraday current and the current efficiency of CO 2 at the low potentials reach to the maximum. In addition, Ru loses its co catalytic properties at the high potentials.

Effect of ball milling and electrolyte on the properties of high-voltage LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 was investigated. Ball milling has significant effect on the synthesis and property of LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4. The X-ray diffraction（XRD） patterns indicate that LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cant be synthesized without ball milling even calcined at 900℃. When synthesized with ball milling, LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 almost exhibits only one plateau at around 4.7V. With the increase of ball milling time, the capacity of (LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4) increases, but the cycling performance is not highly affected. The （electrochemical） property of (LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4) highly depends on the electrolyte. The stable and high-voltage-resistant （electrolyte） is much beneficial to enhancement of electrochemical property of LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4, such as coulombic efficiency and cycling performance.

Effects of matrix properties on the actuation characteristics of embedded shape memory alloy wires were studied. The coefficient of thermal expansion and the modulus of matrix have significant effect on the maximum (recovery) stress. The thermal strain rate of the SMA wires upon heating is more sensitive to the matrix properties than the stress rate does. Additional fibers embedded in the matrix have significant effect on the stress distribution between the SMA wires and the matrix, and thus affect the interface quality significantly. Fibers with negative thermal expansion coefficient are beneficial to the interface between shape memory alloy wires and the epoxy matrix. All conclusions based on the numerical modeling can find experimental supports.

A mature appressorium cDNA library of rice blast fungus, Magnaporthegrisea, was constructed in a λ TriplEx2 vector by SMARTTM cDNA library containing 2.37×10^6 independent clones about 100% of which harbor foreign cDNA inserts with average size of 660 bp. Of 9 randomly selected clones, 2 expressed sequence tags (ESTs) sequences did not have homologous EST sequences of M. grisea in Gen Bank. The appressorium cDNA library is suitable for gene expression analysis and function analysis of the late stages of appressorium formation and the early stages of penetration of M. grisea.

Modeling mechanical properties of GTAW welds of commercial titanium alloys with artificial neural network

Artificial neural networks (ANN) were used to model the strength, ductility and hardness of multi-pass welds deposited by gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) in plates of commercial titanium alloys. The input parameters of the ANN are the alloy composition and heat treatment conditions and its output is one of the mechanical properties of the weld metal of titanium alloys, namely ultimate tensile strength (UTS), yield strength, elongation, reduction of the area (ROA) and hardness. The titanium alloys used in the work include commercially pure titanium, alpha or near-alpha titanium, alpha-beta titanium and beta or near-beta titanium.

Efficient volume preserving approach for skeleton-based implicit surfaces

This paper presents an efficient way to preserve the volume of implicit surfaces generated by skeletons. Recursive subdivision is used to efficiently calculate the volume. The criterion for subdivision is obtained by using the property of density functions and treating different types of skeletons respectively to get accurate minimum and maximum distances from a cube to a skeleton. Compared with the criterion generated by other ways such as using traditional Interval Analysis, Affine Arithmetic, or Lipschitz condition, our approach is much better both in speed and accuracy.
