Sports video summarization and adaptation for application in mobile communication

Sports video appeals to large audiences due to its high commercial potentials. Automatically extracting useful semantic information and generating highlight summary from sports video to facilitate users' accessing requirements is an important problem, especially in the forthcoming broadband mobile communication and the need for users to access their multimedia information of interest from anywhere at anytime with their most convenient digital equipments. A system to generate highlight summaries oriented for mobile applications is introduced, which includes highlight extraction and video adaptation. In this system, several highlight extraction techniques are provided for field sports video and racket sports video by using multi-modal information. To enhance users' viewing experience and save bandwidth, 3D animation from highlight segment is also generated. As an important procedure to make video analysis results universally applicable, video transcoding techniques are applied to adapt the video for mobile communication environment and user preference. Experimental results are encouraging and show the advantage and feasibility of the system for multimedia content personalization, enhancement and adaptation to meet different user preference and network/device requirements.

Encoding Spatial Context for Large-Scale Partial-Duplicate Web Image Retrieval

Many recent state-of-the-art image retrieval approaches are based on Bag-of-Visual-Words model and represent an image with a set of visual words by quantizing local SIFT（scale invariant feature transform） features. Feature quantization reduces the discriminative power of local features and unavoidably causes many false local matches between images, which degrades the retrieval accuracy. To filter those false matches, geometric context among visual words has been popularly explored for the verification of geometric consistency. However, existing studies with global or local geometric verification are either computationally expensive or achieve limited accuracy. To address this issue, in this paper, we focus on partialduplicate Web image retrieval, and propose a scheme to encode the spatial context for visual matching verification. An efficient affine enhancement scheme is proposed to refine the verification results. Experiments on partial-duplicate Web image search, using a database of one million images, demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed *** on a 10-million image database further reveals the scalability of our approach.

Structure of the Crust and Upper Mantle Beneath the Zhangbei-Shangyi Earthquake Area and Its Surroundings

The study of deep-seated structure in the Zhangbei-Shangyi earthquake area and its surroundings indicates that in comparison with the Shanxi rift system, the North china rifted basin, the Yanshanian fold belt on both sides, and the Zhangjiakou-Penglai tectonic belt have lower resistivity, and a distinctly different velocity interface in the crust and depth distribution of Moho discontinuity. The Yanqing- Huai’lai basin bisects the Zhangjiakou-Penglai tectonic belt into two segments, the northwestern and the southeastern segments. The latest magnetotelluric sounding and investigation indicate that the electrical structure within the Zhangbei-Shangyi earthquake area is different to a certain degree from that in its surroundings. There exists a nearly NNW-trending structure in the crust. The main shock and most aftershocks occurred above the low-resistivity zone in the crust.
