Dear Editor, Phenotypic drug discovery, which observes compound effects on physiology,has given way to targeting specific molecules, but has revived by using modern methods to find drugs based on therapeutic outcomes in disease models(Vincent et al., 2022). Osteoarthritis(OA) is a prevalent chronic joint disorder, primarily affecting knee joints, with osteoclast activation due to low-grade inflammation resulting in increased bone resorption and structural changes in the joint(Katz et al.,2021).

Due to the complex hydrogeological conditions in karst regions,it is difficult to measure sediment source contributions at a catchment scale *** objective of this study was to quantify the relative contributions of sediment sources and their temporal variability in a karst catchment in southwest *** depressions can trap eroded sediment similar to a dam or reservoir and,thus,are representative and typical test beds for identifying sediment sources in karst *** sediment cores were taken from a karst depression,58 soil samples from three potential sediment sources were collected,and 18 soil properties were *** relative contributions of cropland,forestland,and fissure or crack soils were calculated using a multivariate mixing *** fingerprinting results demonstrated that the cropland was the main sediment source in karst ***,according to the mean sediment contributions of the three deposited sediment cores,the sediment contribution from cropland topsoil was 69.3%,varying from 46.9%to 92.3%,and forestland soil and crack soil accounted for 8.6%and 22.1%of the sediment yield,and varying from 2.8%to 16.5%and 4.8%-36.6%,*** result indicated that great attention should be paid when using only a single core to quantify sediment *** to the deposited sediment was generally disturbed as cropland in the karst depression,the area that has not been disturbed in recent decades in depression was more appropriate to trace sediment sources in karst *** the best of our knowledge,this study was the first to quantify the contributions of sediment sources in the karst catchment of southwest *** study provides valuable information and a preliminary reference for applying a composite fingerprinting technique to quantify sediment sources in karst catchments.

Supernumerary robotic limbs(SRLs) are a new type of wearable human auxiliary equipment, which is currently a hot research topic in the world. SRLs have broad applications in many fields, and will provide a reference and technical support for the realization of human-robot collaboration and integration,while playing an important role in improving social security and public services. In this paper, representative SRLs are summarized from the aspects of related literature analysis,research status, ontology structure design, control and driving,sensing and perception, and application fields. This paper also analyzes and summarizes the current technical challenges faced by SRLs, and reviews development progress and key technologies,thus giving a prospect of future technical development trends.

NSVS 14256825 is the second discovered sdOB+dM eclipsing-binary system with an orbital period of 2.65 h. This special binary was reported to contain circumbinary planets or brown dwarfs by using the timing method. However, different results were derived by different authors because of the insufficient coverage of eclipse timings. Since 2008, we have monitored this binary for about 10 yr using several telescopes and 84 new times of light minimum were obtained with high precision. It is found that the O-C curve has been increasing recently and it shows a cyclic variation with a period of 8.83 yr and an amplitude of 46.31 seconds. The cyclic change cannot be explained by magnetic activity cycles of the red dwarf component because the required energy is much larger than that radiated by this component in one whole period. This cyclic change detected in NSVS 14256825 could be explained by the light-travel time effect via the presence of a third body. The lowest mass of the third body is determined to be 14.15 Mjupwhich is in the transition range between planets and brown dwarfs. The substellar object is orbiting around this evolved binary at an orbital separation of around 3 AU with an eccentricity of 0.12. These results indicate that NSVS 14256825 is the first sdOB-type eclipsing binary consisting of a hierarchical substellar *** detection of a close-in substellar companion to NSVS 14256825 will provide some insights on the formation and evolution of sdOB-type binaries and their companions.

In this paper, the variation of contact angles of a droplet on grooved surfaces was studied from microscale to macroscale experimentally and theoretically. The experimental results indicated that the contact angle changes nonlinearly with anisotropic factor. To get clear of the changing process of contact angle on grooved surfaces from microscale to macroscale, we carried out theoretical analysis with moment equilibrium method being adopted. In addition, the variation of contact angles in different directions was investigated and a mathematic model to calculate arbitrary contact angles around the elliptic contact line was suggested. For the convenience of potential applications, a symbolic contact angle was proposed to characterize the ellipsoidal cap droplet on grooved surfaces. Our results will offer help to the future design of patterned surfaces in practical applications,and deepen the understanding of wetting behavior on grooved surfaces.

Identifying the active catalytic centers on catalyst surface is significant for exploring the catalytic reaction mechanism and further guiding the synthesis of high-performance ***,it remains a challange in developing the site-specific technology for the identification of the active catalytic ***,in-situ infrared spectroscopy of adsorbed CO,photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)test and theoretical simulation were used to distinguish and quantify the different surface sites and their H2-production catalytic activity on TiO2-supported Pt nanoparticles(Pt NPs).Two different types of surface Pt sites,tip Pt(Pttip)and edge/terrace Ptedge/terrace,on TiO2-supported Pt nanoparticles(Pt NPs)were *** photocatalytic H2-production activity of TiO2-supported Pt NPs shows a linear functional relationship with the number of Pttip ***,the number of Ptedge/terracesites produced little effect on the activity of TiO2-supported Pt ***-principle simulations confirmed that H2-evolution at the Pttipsites owns a lower energy barrier than that at Ptedge/*** findings would be helpful for the fabrication of high-performance Pt catalysts.

Estimating the thickness of diffusive solid electrolyte interface

electrolyte. The properties of lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery, such as cycle life, irreversible capacity loss, self-discharge rate, electrode corrosion and safety are usually ascribed to the quality of the SEI, which are highly dependent on the thickness. Thus, understanding the formation mechanism and the SEI thickness is of prime interest. First, we apply dimensional analysis to obtain an explicit relation between the thickness and the number density in this study. Then the SEI thickness in the initial charge-discharge cycle is analyzed and estimated for the first time using the Cahn-Hilliard phase-field model. In addition, the SEI thickness by molecular dynamics simulation validates the theoretical results. It has been shown that the established model and the simulation in this paper estimate the SEI thickness concisely within order-of-magnitude of nanometers. Our results may help in evaluating the performance of SEI and assist the future design of Li-ion battery.
