ROLE OF SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURE IN MODULATING LIFE CYCLE OF TROPICAL CYCLONES OVER BAY OF BENGAL

Sea surface temperature(SST) varies significantly in the presence of tropical cyclones(TCs). Using fixed SST throughout the integration of high resolution TC models is general practice in research and operational endeavor over the North Indian Ocean. The present study is to assess the impact of updating realistic SST in TC lifetime on track, intensity and rainfall of TCs. The Hurricane Weather Research Forecast(HWRF) model of single domain with 9 km resolution is used. A total of 31 forecast cases are considered from 6 TCs during 2007-16 with unique track and intensity characteristics. A set of two numerical experiments are done without(CNTL) and with 6-hourly SST update(SST) in TC *** track and intensity errors show that there is an improvement of 3–41% in track during 12–120 h forecast length for SST run. The SST runs improve landfall position and time prediction by 20% and 33% respectively. The cross track error of SST run is comparable(44 km) with average errors available for this basin(34 km);and along track errors are improved by 60% as compared to CNTL as well as average errors of the basin. The model is biased to overestimate a weaker TC and underestimate a stronger TC, however, the bias is reduced in SST run by 5–51%. The analyses of wind, enthalpy flux and warm core structures provide insight for realistic intensity prediction of SST run unlike CNTL. Rainfall intensity and radial distribution is also improved in SST run. Thus, this study highlights the significance of ocean coupling with TC models to advance forecast guidance.

Antibacterial and antifungal activity of Terminalia arjuna Wight&*** against multi-drug resistant clinical isolates

Objective:To evaluate antimicrobial activity of Terminalia arjuna(***)bark against clinical strains of multi-drug resistant bacteria,and Candida *** from patients,as well as the corresponding reference ***:The antimicrobial activity of water,methanol and chloroform extracts of *** bark were evaluated by agar-well diffusion method,followed by determination of minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)by broth micro-dilution *** clinical isolates were studied for antibacterial susceptibility by Kirby and Bauer disk diffusion ***:The water and methanolic extracts of *** bark produced significant zones of inhibition against twenty-two tested bacteria including eight *** values against the bacteria were found in the range of 0.16 to 2.56 mg/*** chloroform extract did not exhibit antibacterial *** polar extracts of *** also demonstrated strong antifungal effect against eight species of Candida,with MIC between 0.16 and 0.64 mg/*** antimicrobial efficacy of the polar extracts was found to be commensurate with high polyphenol content in contrast to the non-polar(chloroform fraction).Conclusions:This study has revealed the therapeutic prospect of *** bark for the treatment of microbial *** polar fraction of the bark could be used for development of novel antimicrobial agents,particularly against urinary tract infections,and candidiasis/candidaemia.

通过破坏性抽样、相片网格法和落叶采受器法,获得了印度Shoolpaneshwar野生动物禁猎区内生长的柚木和印度实竹叶面积指数。建立了一个异速生长方程来决定两个树种的叶面积指数。结果表明,异速生长方程获得的叶面积指数与破坏性抽样、相片网格法和落叶采受器法评估得到的指数值相近;2种测定方式下,柚木的均方根误差分别是0.90和1.15,印度实竹的均方根误差分别为0.38和0.46。估计的和计算获得的叶面积指数值匹配性较好,说明用建立的方程计算得到的2个树种叶面积指数的准确性较好。总之,冠幅伸展是一个估计树木叶面积较好的且敏感的参数。本文所提出的方程可以用作估计热带柚木和印度实竹叶面积指数。图4表1参22。

AIM: To investigate -765G > C COX-2 polymorphism and H pylori infection in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma, peptic ulcer disease (PUD) and non- ulcer dyspepsia (NUD). METHODS: We enrolled 348 adult patients (62 gastric adenocarcinoma, 45 PUD and 241 NUD) undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy at two referral centers between September, 2002 and May, 2007. H pylori infection was diagnosed when any of the four tests (RUT, culture, histopathology and PCR) were positive. Genotyping for -765G > C polymorphism of COX-2 was performed by PCR-RFLP analysis. RESULTS: Frequency of C carrier had significantassociation with gastric adenocarcinoma as compared to NUD [77.4% vs 29%, P C COX-2 polymorphism with or without H pylori could be a marker for genetic susceptibility to gastric adenocarcinoma. COX-2 polymorphism in presence of H pylori infection might be useful in predicting the risk of PUD.

It is a well known fact that development of fully generalized automatic machine translation systems is still a dream that seems too far from reality to be fulfilled. A Machine Translation （MT） system with human intervention is the most appropriate way to get translation which has greater human acceptability. The main aim of this paper is to show how semi-automatic method for translation reduces the human effort, and increases efficiency of the MT system. Most of the translation work these days relates to technical material like contracts, user manual, field reports, etc. Technical translation calls for consistency （terminological, structural, phrasal, etc.） among documents and translation accuracy. Also it is time consuming and expensive to train technical translators. So there is a need for human-machine unification and this paper focuses on an approach which can help to achieve this. This paper also focuses on the need for integration of existing MT systems with tools like （Wordfast, Trados etc.） which are widely used for translation by the translation industry. Currently the approach has been applied on AnglaMT system for English to Hindi and English to Punjabi machine translation systems. This approach can however be applied to other available MT systems as well.

This article aims to examine the behavior of Unplasticized Poly-Vinyl-Chloride(UPVC)bounded reinforced columns with polypropylene fibers under axial *** develop this model,samples of concrete filled UPVC pipe(CFUT)with different geometric properties were *** obtain the specimens different class pipes with three different diameters were used to investigate the sensitivity of these columns to various *** effect of each variable on the ultimate strength,ductility and confinement efficiency of the samples was *** specimens were compressed by applying load only to the concrete core to obtain the load-displacement variations and the corresponding deformation mode.A finite element model was developed using the proposed stress-strain variation of confined concrete with UPVC tubes to simulate axial compression of CFUT *** to the results obtained,the effect of the change in diameter-thickness ratio failure stress of concrete limited by(D/t)is obtained and discussed with empirical *** fibers were found to slightly increase column strength up to a certain volume fraction,after which the strength generally experienced a decrease.

Improved Rough Set Algorithms for Optimal Attribute Reduct

Feature selection（FS） aims to determine a minimal feature（attribute） subset from a problem domain while retaining a suitably high accuracy in representing the original features. Rough set theory（RST） has been used as such a tool with much success. RST enables the discovery of data dependencies and the reduction of the number of attributes contained in a dataset using the data alone,requiring no additional information. This paper describes the fundamental ideas behind RST-based approaches,reviews related FS methods built on these ideas,and analyses more frequently used RST-based traditional FS algorithms such as Quickreduct algorithm,entropy based reduct algorithm,and relative reduct algorithm. It is found that some of the drawbacks in the existing algorithms and our proposed improved algorithms can overcome these drawbacks. The experimental analyses have been carried out in order to achieve the efficiency of the proposed algorithms.
