Conversion of solar energy into H2 by photoelectrochemical(PEC)water splitting is recognized as an ideal way to address the growing energy crisis and environmental issues.In a typical PEC cell,the construction of photoanodes is crucial to guarantee the high efficiency and stability of PEC reactions,which fundamentally rely on rationally designed semiconductors(as the active materials)and substrates(as the current collectors).In this review work,we start with a brief introduction of the roles of substrates in the PEC process.Then,we provide a systematic overview of representative strategies for the controlled fabrication of photoanodes on rationally designed substrates,including conductive glass,metal,sapphire,silicon,silicon carbide,and flexible substrates.Finally,some prospects concerning the challenges and research directions in this area are proposed.

The eco-friendly insulating gas perfluoroisobutyronitrile(C_(4)F_(7)N)is potentially used in gas-insulated transformers(GIT)to replace sulphur hexafluoride(SF_(6)).However,evaluation of the long-term insulation reliability and gas–solid interface discharge decomposition characteristics of the gas–solid film insulation structure in GIT is indispensable.The authors simulated the gas–solid film insulation structure in GIT and explored the interface partial discharge(PD)characteristics of C4F7N/CO_(2)gas mixture with polyethylene terephthalate(PET).The effect of gas pressure,mixing ratio on gas–solid interface gas decomposition,PET degradation was investigated,and the interaction mechanism was analysed.It is found that the interface PD generated three degradation regions on a PET film.The gas–solid interface reaction in the electrode contact region and the discharge development trace was significantly higher than that of halation region.The content of gas decomposition products decreases with the increase of gas pressure and the PD intensity of SF6-PET is inferior to that of C_(4)F_(7)N/CO_(2)under the same condition.Relevant results provide reference for the development and application of C_(4)F_(7)N/CO_(2)based GIT.

The specific energy of Li metal batteries(LMBs)can be improved by using high‐voltage cathode materials;however,achieving long‐term stable cycling performance in the corresponding system is particularly challenging for the liquid electrolyte.Herein,a novel pseudo‐oversaturated electrolyte(POSE)is prepared by introducing 1,1,2,2‐tetrafluoroethyl‐2,2,3,3‐tetrafluoropropyl ether(TTE)to adjust the coordination structure between diglyme(G2)and lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide(LiTFSI).Surprisingly,although TTE shows little solubility to LiTFSI,the molar ratio between LiTFSI and G2 in the POSE can be increased to 1:1,which is much higher than that of the saturation state,1:2.8.Simulation and experimental results prove that TTE promotes closer contact of the G2 molecular with Li^(+)in the POSE.Moreover,it also participates in the formation of electrolyte/electrode interphases.The electrolyte shows outstanding compatibility with both the Li metal anode and typical high‐voltage cathodes.Li||Li symmetric cells show a long life of more than 2000 h at 1 mA cm^(−2),1 mAh cm^(−2).In the meantime,Li||LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)O_(2)(NCM811)cell with the POSE shows a high reversible capacity of 134.8 mAh g^(−1 )after 900 cycles at 4.5 V,1 C rate.The concept of POSE can provide new insight into the Li^(+)solvation structure and in the design of advanced electrolytes for LMBs.

The photothermal conversion capacity of pristine organic phase change materials(PCMs)is inherently insufficient in solar energy utilization.To upgrade their photothermal conversion capacity,we developed bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate framework(ZIF)derived Co/N co-doped flower-like carbon(Co/N-FLC)-based composite PCMs toward solar energy harvesting.3D interconnected carbon framework with low interfacial thermal resistance,abundant carbon defects and high content of nitrogen doping,excellent localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR)effect of Co nanoparticles,and light absorber Co_(3)ZnC in Co/N-FLC synergistically upgrade the photothermal capacity of(polyethylene glycol)PEG@Co/N-FLC composite PCMs with an ultrahigh photothermal conversion efficiency of 94.8%under 0.16 W/cm^(2).Uniformly anchored Co and Co_(3)ZnC nanoparticles in carbon framework guarantee excellent photon capture ability.Bridging carbon nanotubes(CNTs)in 2D carbon nanosheets further accelerate the rapid transport of phonons by constructing cross-connected heat transfer paths.Additionally,PEG@Co/N-FLC exhibits a thermal energy storage density of 100.69 J/g and excellent thermal stability and durable reliability.Therefore,PEG@Co/N-FLC composite PCMs are promising candidates to accelerate the efficient utilization of solar energy.

Background:Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),comprising Crohn's disease(CD)and ulcerative colitis(UC),is a heterogeneous state of chronic intestinal inflammation.Intestinal innate immunity,including innate immune cells,defends against pathogens and excessive entry of gut microbiota,while preserving immune tolerance to resident intestinal microbiota,and may be characterized by its capacity to produce a rapid and nonspecific reaction.The association between microbiota dysbiosis and the pathogenesis of IBD is complex and dynamic.When the intestinal ecosystem is in dysbiosis,the reduced abundance and diversity of intestinal gut microbiota make the host more vulnerable to the attack of exogenous and endogenous pathogenic gut microbiota.The aim of our study was to comprehensively assess the relationship between microbial populations within UC,the signaling pathways of pathogenic gut microbe therein and the inflammatory response,as well as to understand the effects of using PE&AFWE(poppy extract[Papaver nudicaule L.]and Artemisia frigida Willd.extract)on UC modulation.Methods:A UC mouse model was established by inducing SPF-grade C57BL/6 mice using dextrose sodium sulfate(DSS).Based on metagenomic sequencing to characterize the gut microbiome,the relationship between gut microbiota dysbiosis and gut microbiota was further studied using random forest and Bayesian network analysis methods,as well as histopathological analysis.Results:(1)We found that the 5 gut microbiota with the highest relative abundance of inflammatory bowel disease UC model gut microbiota were consistent with the top 5 ranked natural bacteria.There were three types of abundance changes in the model groups:increases(Chlamydiae/Proteobacteria and Deferribacteres),decreases(Firmicutes),and no significant changes(Bacteroidetes).The UC model group was significantly different from the control group,with 1308 differentially expressed species with abundance changes greater than or equal to 2-fold.(2)The proportion of the fecal flora in the UC group decreased by

Background:Circular RNAs(circRNAs)have been recognized as significant regulators of pulmonary hypertension(PH);however,the differential expression and function of circRNAs in different vascular cells under hypoxia remain unknown.Here,we identified co-differentially expressed circRNAs and determined their putative roles in the proliferation of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells(PASMCs),pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells(PMECs),and pericytes(PCs)under hypoxia.Methods:Whole transcriptome sequencing was performed to analyze the differential expression of circRNAs in three different vascular cell types.Bioinformatic analysis was used to predict their putative biological function.Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction,Cell Counting Kit-8,and EdU Cell Proliferation assays were carried out to determine the role of circular postmeiotic segregation 1(circPMS1)as well as its potential sponge mechanism in PASMCs,PMECs,and PCs.Results:PASMCs,PMECs,and PCs exhibited 16,99,and 31 differentially expressed circRNAs under hypoxia,respectively.CircPMS1 was upregulated in PASMCs,PMECs,and PCs under hypoxia and enhanced the proliferation of vascular cells.CircPMS1may upregulate DEP domain containing 1(DEPDC1)and RNA polymerase II subunit D expression by targeting microRNA-432-5p(miR-432-5p)in PASMCs,upregulate MAX interactor 1(MXI1)expression by targeting miR-433-3p in PMECs,and upregulate zinc finger AN1-type containing 5(ZFAND5)expression by targeting miR-3613-5p in PCs.Conclusions:Our results suggest that circPMS1 promotes cell proliferation through the miR-432-5p/DEPDC1 or miR-432-5p/POL2D axis in PASMCs,through the miR-433-3p/MXI1 axis in PMECs,and through the miR-3613-5p/ZFAND5 axis in PCs,which provides putative targets for the early diagnosis and treatment of PH.

Background:Despite the success of tyrosine kinase inhibitors in chronic myeloid leukemia(CML)therapy,CML still faces the challenges of drug resistance and progression to blast crisis.Twenty-five percent of patients have imatinib resistance and treatment difficulties due to heterogeneity after progression,but little is known about the mechanism.A key transcription factor in hematopoiesis,MYB,has been reported to increase abnormally in several types of aggressive blood disorders including CML.Methods:This study used a zebrafish model to explore the relationship between BCR/ABL1 and c-myb in CML progression.A CML zebrafish model was crossed with a c-myb hyperactivity transgenic line.Results:It was found that both exogenous BCR/ABL1 and c-myb could up-regulate the expression of neutrophil-related genes.More seriously,neutrophil accumulation was observed when BCR/ABL1 was combined with c-myb overexpression.Further studies showed that c-myb may be one of the downstream targets of BCR/ABL1 and the effect of BCR/ABL1 on neutrophils was c-myb dependent.Taking advantage of this inheritable in vivo model,it was shown that a combination of imatinib and flavopiridol,a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor targeting MYB,could more effectively alleviate the aggressive phenotype of the double transgene line.Conclusion:In summary,this study suggests that c-myb acts downstream of BCR/ABL1 and is involved in CML progression and is therefore a risk factor and a valuable target for the treatment of CML progression.The model used in the study could be helpful in high-throughput drug screening in CML transformation.

Development of a new cerebral ischemia reperfusion model of Mongolian gerbils and standardized evaluation system

Background:The Mongolian gerbil is an excellent laboratory animal for preparing the cerebral ischemia model due to its inherent deficiency in the circle of Willis.However,the low incidence and unpredictability of symptoms are caused by numerous complex variant types of the circle.Additionally,the lack of an evaluation system for the cer-ebral ischemia/reperfusion(I/R)model of gerbils has shackled the application of this model.Methods:We created a symptom-oriented principle and detailed neurobehavioral scoring criteria.At different time points of reperfusion,we analyzed the alteration in locomotion by rotarod test and grip force score,infarct volume by triphenyltetrazo-lium chloride(TTC)staining,neuron loss using Nissl staining,and histological charac-teristics using hematoxylin-eosin(H&E)straining.Results:With a successful model rate of 56%,32 of the 57 gerbils operated by our method harbored typical features of cerebral I/R injury,and the mortality rate in the male gerbils was significantly higher than that in the female gerbils.The suc-cessfully prepared I/R gerbils demonstrated a significant reduction in motility and grip strength at 1 day after reperfusion;formed obvious infarction;exhibited typi-cal pathological features,such as tissue edema,neuronal atrophy and death,and vacuolated structures;and were partially recovered with the extension of reperfu-sion time.Conclusion:This study developed a new method for the unilateral common carotid artery ligation I/R model of gerbil and established a standardized evaluation system for this model,which could provide a new cerebral I/R model of gerbils with more practical applications.

Background:Gut microbiota exert an immense effect on host health and host environmental adaptation.Furthermore,the composition and structure of gut microbiota are determined by the environment and host genetic factors.However,the relative contribution of the environment and host genetic factors toward shaping the structure of gut microbiota has been poorly understood.Methods:In this study,we characterized the fecal microbial communities of the closely related voles Neodon fuscus,Lasiopodomys brandtii,and L.mandarinus after caged feeding in the laboratory for 6 months,through high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics analysis.Results:The results of pairwise comparisons of N.fuscus vs.L.brandtii and L.mandarinus vs.L.brandtii revealed significant differences in bacterial diversity and composition after domestication.While 991 same operational taxonomic units(OTUs)were shared in three voles,there were 362,291,and 303 species-specific OTUs in N.fuscus,L.brandtii,and L.mandarinus,respectively.The relative abundances of Proteobacteria and Prevotella,which are reported to be enriched in high-altitude populations,were significantly higher in high-altitude N.fuscus than in low-altitude L.brandtii after domestication.Firmicutes,which produce various digestive enzymes for energy metabolism,and Spirochaetes,which can degrade cellulose,were found in higher abundance in subterranean L.mandarinus than that in L.brandtii which dwells on the earth surface.Conclusion:Our findings showed that some components of gut microbiota still maintained dominance even when different host species are reared under the same environmental conditions,suggesting that these bacteria are substantially influenced by host factors.

Engineered nanoparticles have emerged as new types of materials for a wide range of applications from therapeutics to energy.Still,fabricating nanomaterials presenting complex inner morphologies and shapes in a simple manner remains a great challenge.Herein,we report the template-free one-pot continuous gradient nanoprecipitation of different types of non-compatible polymers to spontaneously form nanostructured particles.The continuous addition of antisolvent induces precipitation and(re)organization of polymer chains at the forming particle interface,ultimately and naturally developing complex inner morphologies and shapes while particle grows.This low-energy-cost bottom-up assembly approach applies to various functional polymers,possibly embedded with metal nanoparticles,for continuous growth into well-organized nanoparticles.UV crosslinking of the particles and core removal allows both confirming the building process and leading to hollow or multivoid nanomaterials.
