Ecotourist trail-use affects the taxonomic, functional and phylogenetic diversity of mammals in a protected area: lessons for conservation management

Ecotourism,by deﬁnition,aims to engage peoples’interest in wildlife and the *** use of tourist roads and trails to access sites within protected areas(PAs)can detrimentally affect the behavior and distribution of *** way mammals respond to anthropogenic pressures may differ across taxonomic,functional,and phy-logenetic groups;nevertheless,how ecotourist trail-use affects these different diversity remains ***,we assessed 6 metrics of taxonomic,phylogenetic,and functional diversity for a mammal community in a PA in central China,recording how Trail use(using Trail type as a proxy)and habitat variables affected sightings and signs of mammals across 60 replicate 0.5 km *** then examined how Trail use affected the taxonomic,functional,and phylogenetic diversity indices of species(>1 kg).Using generalized liner mixed modeling,we identiﬁed that more used trail types had a greater adverse effect on all diversity richness indices than did less used trail ***,tourist pressure was associated with a general tendency to homogenize the site’s mammal *** contrast,the effects of Trail Types on all diversity evenness indices were non-signiﬁ***-more,more developed and more heavily used trail types had a greater,signiﬁcant negative effect on taxonomic,functional,and phylogenetic richness,whereas these richness indices were unaffected by minor trail types,used less *** a general principle,lower biodiversity indices reduce ecosystem resilience,and so it is vital to better understand these responses to balance public access against biodiversity management in PAs.

Seasonal Distribution of Meiofaunal Assemblages in the Mangrove Tidal Flat of Futian,Shenzhen,China

Meiofauna are fundamental components in mangrove ecosystem which play important roles in the energy flow and mat-ter *** order to reveal the spatio-temporal distribution of meiofaunal assemblages in mangrove habitats,sediment samples were collected in July(summer)and October(autumn)of 2013,January(winter)and April(spring)of 2014 in the mangrove tidal flat of Futian,Shenzhen,China.A total of 14 meiofaunal taxa were identified,including free-living marine nematodes,benthic copepods,polychaetes,oligochaetes,ostracods,isopods,***,there were also undetermined *** showed that the abun-dance range of meiofauna was(488.35±71.29)-(5136.36±623.38)ind(10 cm)−*** nematodes were the most dominant group,with an average abundance of(1869.56±227.92)ind(10 cm)−2,accounting for 98.35%of the total abundance of *** sea-sonal distribution of meiofauna showed that the abundance was the highest in summer,followed by those in spring,winter,and *** distribution showed that meiofauna were mainly distributed in the upper sediment layer(0-5 cm),with a proportion of 89.56%.Correlation analysis between meiofauna and environmental factors showed that meiofaunal abundance and biomass had significantly negative correlation with *** analysis between meiofaunal assemblages and environmental factors show-ed that meiofaunal assemblages were affected by the combined effects of temperature,salinity,sediment median grain size,water content,and chlorophyll a content.

On 21 May 2021(UTC),an MW 7.4 earthquake jolted the east Bayan Har block in the Tibetan *** earthquake received widespread attention as it is the largest event in the Tibetan Plateau and its surroundings since the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake,and especially in proximity to the seismic gaps on the east Kunlun *** we use satellite interferometric synthetic aperture radar data and subpixel offset observations along the range directions to characterize the coseismic deformation of the *** offset displacements depict clear surface ruptures with a total length of~170 km involving two possible activated fault segments in the *** modeling results indicate that the earthquake was dominated by left-lateral strike-slip motions of up to 7 m within the top 12 km of the *** well-resolved slip variations are characterized by five major slip patches along strike and 64%of shallow slip deficit,suggesting a young seismogenic ***-temporal changes of the postseismic deformation are mapped from early 6-day and 24-day InSAR observations,and are well explained by time-dependent afterslip *** of Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)velocity profiles and strain rates suggests that the eastward extrusion of plateau is diffusely distributed across the east Bayan Har block,but exhibits significant lateral heterogeneities,as evidenced by magnetotelluric *** block-wide distributed deformation of the east Bayan Har block along with the significant co-and post-seismic stress loadings from the Madoi earthquake imply high seismic risks along regional faults,especially the Tuosuo Lake and Maqên-Maqu segments of the Kunlun fault that are known as seismic gaps.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation(SCO)is the most extensive and populous comprehensive regional cooperation organization in the world,covering about half of the world's population,with not only a huge consumer market,but also rich natural resources and strong *** one of the important platforms for the implementation of the Green Belt and Road Initiative,it is an important opportunity for the SCO to actively participate in global governance and contribute to building a community of global *** investigate the status of biodiversity conservation in the SCO countries,we used literature analysis *** surveyed the performance and international cooperation status of the SCO countries in the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity(CBD),listed facing problems and threats to biodiversity conservation,including not optimistic biodiversity conservation project implementation status,contradiction between ecological protection and economic development,impacts of human activities,lack of funds and talents,etc.,and analyzed the biodiversity protection needs of the SCO countries from the perspectives of project and policy implementation status and international *** to the cooperation between China and the other SCO countries on biodiversity conservation and the post-2020 global biodiversity framework goals,we gave some recommendations:(1)promoting access to genetic resources and benefit-sharing;(2)integrating multiple funds and innovating the implementation of funding mechanism;(3)developing talent training and exchange programs and deepening multilateral cooperation;(4)strengthening cross-border cooperation and improving cooperation network;and(5)establishing a coordination mechanism for biodiversity conservation within the framework of the SCO.

A series of experiments and simulations were performed to ascertain the rate at which phosphorus is released using a water quality model in Saemangeum Lake, an artificially constructed lake located in an estuary. The general inflow of seawater once a day contributed to the formation of a halocline in the lake water, which caused variation in the vertical concentration of dissolved oxygen. The halocline was mainly observed in the deep downstream regions of Saemangeum Lake that are close to the open sea. In contrast, the shallower regions upstream, which are under the influence of pollutant-loading from upstream rivers, exhibited high concentrations of chemical oxygen demand, total phosphorus, and Chl-a,resulting in lower water quality than the downstream regions. Laboratory experiments investigating the release of phosphorus at five representative locations showed that the upstream release flux, where the halocline was weaker, was higher than that downstream, where the initial level of phosphorus sedimentation was high. In particular, a need for an accurate evaluation method for the release of phosphorus at each site was suggested as slight differences were obtained depending on the estimation method used at each representative location. The results of the phosphorus release experiments led to the use of time-weighted integration(TWI), terminated time evaluation, and statistical mean value; the environmental Fluid Dynamics Code-National Institute of environment Research model, a widely used water quality model for studying retention watersheds, was applied to the simulation of hydraulic and water quality characteristics for the Saemangeum Lake and its surrounding waters. The result of the water quality simulation indicated the highest reproducibility for release-time TWI so that TWI values were more useful in predicting phosphorus concentrations and the subsequent management of water quality.

Growing public awareness of the importance of protecting biodiversity requires the development of forest practices that increase the complexity of stand *** the ecological processes of different forest vegetation provide insights into community coexistence *** this paper,the spatial patterns of three different communities,evergreen broadleaf forest,deciduous broadleaf forest,and mixed needleleaf and broadleaf forest at ***,China,were quantified with four structural parameters,the mingling index,the uniform angle index,the diameter dominance index and the crowdedness *** trees with a diameter at breast height of more than 5 cm were *** analyses highlighted that most trees in the three communities were extremely dense and slightly clumped,with a moderate size differentiation and high mixed *** mixed needleleaf and broadleaf forest,the distribution pattern of tree species was better than the other two ***,spatial patterns in mixed needleleaf and broadleaf forest exhibited a strong stability-effect,that is,the stand had a suitable environment for the stable survival of the *** the increasing of elevation,the degree of the mingling index and the crowdedness index increased,however,there was no influence on the uniform angle index and the diameter dominance ***,at the same elevation,four structural parameters of shady slope were larger than that of sunny *** we found the relationship between stand spatial structure and environment factors had important influence on forest *** work contributes to the knowledge of population structure,and further provide theoretical basis for the sustainable development of forest resources and protecting biodiversity of Huangshan *** future studies,it is necessary to explore the limiting factors of community spatial distribution by combining species diversity and functional traits.

In this,communication world, the Network Function Virtualization concept is utilized for many businesses, small services to virtualize the network nodefunction and to build a block that may connect the chain, communication ***, Virtualized Network Function Forwarding Graph (VNF-FG) has beenused to define the connection between the VNF and to give the best end-to-endservices. In the existing method, VNF mapping and backup VNF were proposedbut there was no profit and reliability improvement of the backup and mapping ofthe primary VNF. As a consequence, this paper offers a Hybrid Hexagon-CostEfficient algorithm for determining the best VNF among multiple VNF and backing up the best VNF, lowering backup costs while increasing dependability. TheVNF is chosen based on the highest cost-aware important measure (CIM) rate,which is used to assess the relevance of the VNF forwarding *** achieveoptimal cost-efficiency, VNF with the maximum CIM is selected. After the selection process, updating is processed by three steps which include one backup VNFfrom one SFC, two backup VNF from one Service Function Chain (SFC),and twobackup VNF from different SFC. Finally, this proposed method is compared withCERA, MinCost, MaxRbyInr based on backup cost, number of used PN nodes,SFC request utility, and latency. The simulation result shows that the proposedmethod cuts down the backup cost and computation time by 57% and 45% compared with the CER scheme and improves the cost-efficiency. As a result, this proposed system achieves less backup cost, high reliability, and low timeconsumption which can improve the Virtualized Network Function operation.
