Nitric oxide （NO） is a diatomic gas that performs crucial functions in a wide array of physiological processes in animals. The past several years have revealed much about its roles in plants. It is well established that NO is synthesized from nitrite by nitrate reductase （NR） and via chemical pathways. There is increasing evidence for the occurrence of an alternative pathway in which NO production is catalysed from L-arginine by a so far non-identified enzyme. Contradictory results have been reported regarding the respective involvement of these enzymes in specific physiological conditions. Although much remains to be proved, we assume that these inconsistencies can be accounted for by the limited specificity of the pharmacological agents used to suppress NO synthesis but also by the reduced content of L-arginine as well as the inactivity of nitrate-permeable anion channels in nitrate reductase- and/or nitrate/nitrite-deficient plants. Another unre- solved issue concerns the molecular mechanisms underlying NO effects in plants. Here, we provide evidence that the second messenger Ca^2＋, as well as protein kinases including MAPK and SnRK2, are very plausible mediators of the NO signals. These findings open new perspectives about NO-based signaling in plants.

Objective A calcium-activated chloride current （ICl（Ca）） has been observed in medium-sized sensory neurons of the dorsal root ganglion （DRG）. Axotomy of the sciatic nerve induces a similar current in the majority of medium and large diameter neurons. Our aim is to identify the molecule（s） underlying this current. Methods Using conventional and quantitative RT-PCR, we examined the expression in DRG of members of three families of genes, which have been shown to have latch） current inducing properties. results We showed the detection of transcripts representing several members of these families, i.e. chloride channel calciumactivated （CLCA）, Bestrophin and Tweety gene families in adult DRG, in the normal state and 3 d after sciatic nerve section, a model for peripheral nerve injury. Conclusion Our analysis revealed that that mBestl and Tweety2 appear as the best candidates to play a role in the injury-induced Icl（Ca） in DRG neurons.

This study evaluated the methods of grafting commercial catechin with fatty acids,namely capric acid(C10),lauric acid(C12),and myristic acid(C14)through *** of beech wood(Fagus sylvatica L.)were impregnated with catechin and modified catechin-fatty acids,separately,at a 5%concentration diluted in ethanol using vacuum pressure treatment and subjected to *** weight percentage gain before leaching(WPG),after leaching(WPGAL),and weight loss due to leaching(PL)were *** leached and unleached samples were tested against white-rot fungi(Trametes versicolor)in Petri-dishes for twelve *** show that samples treated with modified catechin-fatty acids provide improved resistance towards ***-C14 was found to be more promising,possibly due to its chain *** decay weight loss for samples treated with modified catechin-fatty acids does not differ significantly between the samples that leached and *** the antifungal properties of catechin,the treatment with catechin alone was insufficient to protect wood samples from ***,it is recommended to increase the concentration level of modified catechin to obtain a significant effect on the decay resistance.

We report on the fabrication and characterization of color-encoded chitosan hydrogels for the rapid,sensitive and specific detection of bacterial enzymes as well as the selective detection of a set of tested bacteria through characteristic enzyme *** patterned sensor hydrogels are functionalized with three different colorimetric enzyme substrates affording the multiplexed detection and differentiation ofα-glucosidase,β-galactosidase andβ-*** limits of detection of the hydrogels for an observation time of 60 min using a conventional microplate reader correspond to concentrations of 0.2,3.4 and 4.5 nM of these enzymes,*** on their different enzyme expression patterns,Staphylococcus aureus strain RN4220,methicillin-resistant ***(MRSA)strain N315,both producingα-glucosidase,but notβ-glucuronidase andβ-galactosidase,Escherichia coli strain DH5α,producingβ-glucuronidase andα-glucosidase,but notβ-galactosidase,and the enterohemorrhagic ***(EHEC)strain E32511,producingβ-galactosidase,but none of the other two enzymes,can be reliably and rapidly distinguished from each *** results confirm the applicability of enzyme sensing hydrogels for the detection and discrimination of specific enzymes to facilitate differentiation of bacterial *** hydrogels thus possess the potential to be further refined as detection units of a multiplexed format to identify certain bacteria for future application in point-of-care microbiological diagnostics in food safety and medical settings.
