Hand,foot,and mouth disease(HFMD)is a contagious disease mainly occurring in young children,and outbreaks commonly occur among young children in the Asia–Pacific region including Thailand.Moreover,the World Health Organization(WHO)monitors HFMD in the Western Pacific region to detect outbreaks and other significant events by the Regional Event Based Surveillance System.HFMD is mainly caused by a group of enteroviruses(EVs)transmitted through direct contact(person to person)and indirect contact with contaminated objects(surface-to-hand).However,few studies have examined the surface stability of EVs.In this study,we investigated the stability of enterovirus A71(EV-A71)and coxsackievirus A16(CVA16)on three different dry surfaces(wood,plastic,and stainless steel)using the endpoint titration using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide(MTT)staining of viable cells and real-time polymerase chain reaction(viral genome detection).The results revealed that virus infectivity dramatically decreased within a few hours on dry surfaces.However,viral RNA could be detected on dry surfaces for up to 28 days.Concerning heat inactivation,both EV-A71 and CVA16 were inactivated after exposure to 60°C for 15 min.Information on virus stability on different dry surfaces will provide useful information for HFMD transmission control.

Betalains are natural coloring pigments with betalamic acid as the core structure of all subclasses.Besides their coloring properties,betalains exhibit various biological activities,including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties,which are highly imperative.Further in-vivo studies reported that betalains protect various body organs,leading to health enhancement.Body organs,including the heart,liver,kidney,lung,etc.,are important for a healthy life.However,these organs can be affected or damaged by various stress factors,toxicants,and harmful substances.Recent studies have claimed that betalains could protect all vital organs of the body through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms.This review article described the in-vivo antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of betalains in various cell-line or animal models.A comprehensive discussion has been provided on the mechanism of action of betalains in protecting various body organs,including cardio-protective effect,hepato-protective ability,renal protection capacity,repro-protective ability,neuro-protective effect,lung protection,and gut protection ability.Finally,future research directions and conclusions have been outlined.

目的社区卫生护士在初级卫生保健服务中发挥着重要作用,特别是在新型冠状病毒疫情期间。本研究旨在描述新型冠状病毒疫情期间泰国东北部社区卫生护士在老年人护理中的工作和作用。方法采用质性研究方法,通过用观察、深入访谈、二次数据和焦点小组讨论等方法,从46名关键信息提供者处获取资料。2022年2-8月在泰国东北部收集资料,使用内容分析法对资料进行分析。结果本研究结果包括3个主题:1)社区卫生护士在新型冠状病毒疫情期间对老年人的照护作用,包括12个子主题;2)大流行期间社区卫生护士在照顾老年人方面的障碍,包括两个子主题;3)社区卫生护士在疫情期间成功进行老年人健康管理的影响因素,包括4个子主题。结论在新型冠状病毒疫情期间,社区卫生护士发挥了重要作用,如教育和倡导者、提供护理、促进和增强社区人群的健康意识,以及为老年人提供情感和营养支持。这项研究可为政策制定者和卫生相关机构制定卫生保健战略和优化社区卫生护士老年人健康管理提供参考。探讨社区卫生护士的作用有助于发展和改善初级卫生保健工作,加强社区卫生保健服务,并让社区中每个人都做好准备,迎接未来全球大流行可能带来的挑战。

目的探讨泰国南部基于社区的洪灾管理中老年人的救助方法,了解为老年人提供支持的社区文化,以便加强社区力量应对洪灾。方法采用内容分析法,对通过观察、深度访谈、二手资料和焦点小组讨论获取的资料进行分析。研究中共纳入127名研究对象,包括地方行政组织、社区领导者、公共部门官员、民间团体、老年人和家庭照顾者。结果本研究共呈现两个主题。①基于社区的洪灾管理中老年人的救助方法,包括:洪灾前预防和准备阶段的8项措施,洪灾发生时的8项应急反应措施,以及灾后恢复和重建阶段的6项措施。②洪灾管理中成功救助老年人的影响因素,包括人员、工作、数据和资源4个因素。结论研究结果对提高基于社区的洪灾管理中救助老年人的潜力具有重要意义,并为参与洪灾管理的社区护士和卫生工作者提供建议,以减轻洪灾对社区老年人的潜在影响。

Ferulic acid enhances insulin secretion by potentiating L-type Ca^(2+)channel activation

Objective To investigate the effect of ferulic acid,a natural compound,on pancreatic beta cell viability,Ca^(2+)channels,and insulin secretion.Methods We studied the effects of ferulic acid on rat insulinoma cell line viability using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide viability assay.The whole-cell patch-clamp technique and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay were also used to examine the action of ferulic acid on Ca^(2+)channels and insulin secretion,respectively.Results Ferulic acid did not affect cell viability during exposures up to 72 h.The electrophysiological study demonstrated that ferulic acid rapidly and concentration-dependently increased L-type Ca^(2+)channel current,shifting its activation curve in the hyperpolarizing direction with a decreased slope factor,while the voltage dependence of inactivation was not affected.On the other hand,ferulic acid have no effect on T-type Ca^(2+)channels.Furthermore,ferulic acid significantly increased insulin secretion,an effect inhibited by nifedipine and Ca^(2+)-free extracellular fluid,confirming that ferulic acid-induced insulin secretion in these cells was mediated by augmenting Ca^(2+)influx through L-type Ca^(2+)channel.Our data also suggest that this may be a direct,nongenomic action.Conclusion This is the first electrophysiological demonstration that acute ferulic acid treatment could increase L-type Ca^(2+)channel current in pancreaticβcells by enhancing its voltage dependence of activation,leading to insulin secretion.

BACKGROUND The prevalence of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)is a growing public health issue in people living with human immunodeficiency virus(PLWH).However,the pathophysiology of MAFLD is still unknown,and the role of genetic variables is only now becoming evident.AIM To evaluate the associations of gene-polymorphism-related MAFLD in PLWH.METHODS The study employed transient elastography with a controlled attenuation parameter≥248 dB/m to identify MAFLD in patients from a Super Tertiary Hospital in central Thailand.Candidate single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)were genotyped using TaqMan®MGB probe 5'nuclease assays for seven MAFLD-related genes.Statistical analyses included SNP frequency analysis,Fisher's Exact and Chi-square tests,odds ratio calculations,and multivariable logistic regression.RESULTS The G-allele carriers of PNPLA3(rs738409)exhibited a two-fold rise in MAFLD,increasing by 2.5 times in MAFLD with human immunodeficiency virus infection.The clinical features and genetic patterns imply that LEP rs7799039 A-allele carriers had a nine times(P=0.001)more significant chance of developing aberrant triglyceride among PLWH.CONCLUSION The current study shows an association between PNPLA3 rs738409 and LEP rs7799039 with MAFLD in PLWH.

In the present work,artificial neuron network(ANN)based models for predicting equilibrium solubility and mass transfer coefficient of CO_(2) absorption into aqueous solutions of high performance alternative 4-diethylamino-2-butanol(DEAB)solvent were successfully developed.The ANN models show an outstanding predictive performance over the predictive correlations proposed in the literature.In order to predict the equilibrium solubility,the ANN model were developed based on three input parameters of operating temperature,concentration of DEAB and partial pressure of CO_(2).An outstanding prediction performance of 2.4%average absolute deviation(AAD)can be obtained(comparing with 7.1–8.3%AAD from the literature).Additionally,a significant improvement on predicting mass transfer coefficient can also be achieved through the developed ANN model with 3.1%AAD(comparing with 14.5%AAD from the existing semi-empirical model).The mass transfer coefficient is considered to be a function of liquid flow rate,liquid inlet temperature,concentration of DEAB,inlet CO_(2) loading,outlet CO_(2) loading,concentration of CO_(2) along the height of the column.

目的研究针对脑卒中患者及其家属的家庭干预方案的有效性。方法采用整群随机对照试验设计。2021年10月至2022年6月在泰国中部猜纳省抽取6个地区,分为实验组(3个地区)和对照组(3个地区),各招募了31个家庭,即31例新发脑卒中患者及家属(家庭照顾者和家庭成员)。以纽曼系统模型为框架,构建包含压力评估和基于家庭干预措施的脑卒中患者家庭干预方案。实验组实施脑卒中患者家庭干预方案,对照组接受常规护理。在基线、4周和12周后,分别对脑卒中后患者的功能状态、抑郁和并发症,家庭照顾者的护理负担和压力,以及家庭照顾者和家庭成员的家庭功能进行了评估。统计方法采用描述性统计、χ^(2)检验和重复测量方差分析等。结果实施家庭干预方案12周后,与对照组相比,脑卒中患者的功能状态改善,抑郁症状减轻,照顾者负担和压力减轻,家庭功能改善,差异均有统计学意义(P<0.05)。实验组有3例患者出现并发症,对照组有7例出现并发症。结论基于纽曼系统模型构建的脑卒中患者家庭干预方案对于改善泰国社区脑卒中患者状况、减轻家庭照顾者负担及改善其家庭功能有重要作用。可考虑延长该干预方案的持续时间,并评估其持续效果。

Deletion of Mitochondrial Porin Alleviates Stress Sensitivity in the Yeast Model of Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome

Shwachman-Diamond syndrome （SDS） is a multi-system disorder characterized by bone marrow failure, pancreatic insufficiency, skeletal abnormalities, and increased risk of leukemic transformation. Most patients with SDS contain mutations in the Shwachman- Bodian-Diamond syndrome gene （SBDS）, encoding a highly conserved protein that has been implicated in ribosome biogenesis. Emerging evidence also suggests a distinct role of SBDS beyond protein translation. Using the yeast model of SDS, we examined the underlying mechanisms that cause cells lacking Sdolp, the yeast SBDS ortholog, to exhibit reduced tolerance to various stress conditions. Our analysis indicates that the environmental stress response （ESR）, heat shock response （HSR）, and endoplasmic reticulum unfolded protein response （UPR） of sdolA cells are functional and that defects in these pathways do not produce the phenotypes observed in sdolh yeast. Depletion of mitochondlial DNA （mtDNA） was observed in sdolh cells, and this is a probable cause of the mitochondrial insufficiency in SDS. Prior disruption of POR1, encoding the mitochondrial voltage dependent anion channel （VDAC）, abrogated the effects of SD01 deletion and substantially restored resistance to environmental stressors and protected against damage to mtDNA. Conversely, wild-type cells over-expressing POR1 exhibited growth impairment and increased stress sensitivity similar to that seen in sdolA cells. Overall, our results suggest that specific VDAC inhibitors may have therapeutic benefits for SDS patients.
