Microbiologically influenced corrosion of cable bolts in underground coal mines:The effect of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans

Reports on corrosion failure of cable bolts,used in mining and civil industries,have been increasing in the past two *** previous studies found that pitting corrosion on the surface of a cable bolt can initiate premature failure of the *** this study,the role of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans(***)bacterium in the occurrence of pitting corrosion in cable bolts was *** coupons,made from the wires of cable bolts,were immersed in testing bottles containing groundwater collected from an underground coal mine and a mixture of *** and *** was observed that *** caused pitting corrosion on the surface of cable bolts in the near-neutral *** presence of geomaterials slightly affected the p H of the environment;however,it did not have any significant influence on the corrosion activity of *** study suggests that the common bacterium *** found in many underground environments can be a threat to cable bolts'integrity by creating initiation points for other catastrophic failures such as stress corrosion cracking.

Acceleration of the oxygen reduction reaction at the cathode is paramount in the development of low-temperature solid oxide fuel *** low operating temperatures between 450 and 600℃,the interactions between the surface and the bulk of the cathode materials greatly impact the electrode kinetics and consequently determine the overall efficacy and long-term stability of the fuel *** review will provide an overview of the recent progress in the understanding of surface-bulk interactions in perovskite oxides as well as their impact on cathode reactivity and *** review will also summarize current strategies in the development of cathode materials through bulk doping and surface *** addition,this review will highlight the roles of surface segregation in the mediation of surface and bulk interactions,which have profound impacts on the properties of cathode surfaces and the bulk and therefore overall cathode *** trade-offs between reactivity and stability commonly exist in terms of catalyst design,opportunities also exist in attaining optimal cathode performance through the modulation of both cathode surfaces and bulk using combined *** review will conclude with future research directions involving investigations into the role of oxygen vacancy and mobility in catalysis,the rational modulation of surface-bulk interactions and the use of advanced fabrication techniques,all of which can lead to optimized cathode performance.

The rapid growth in railway infrastructure and the construction of high-speed heavy-haul rail network,especially on ground that is basically unsuitable,poses challenges for geotechnical engineers because a large part of the money invested in the development of railway lines is often spent on track *** fact around the world,the mud pumping of subgrade fines is one of the common reasons why track performance deteriorates and track stability is *** article presents a series of laboratory tests to examine following aspects of mud pumping:(1)the mechanisms of subgrade fluidisation under undrained condition,(2)the effects of mud pumping on the engineering characteristics of ballast,and(3)the use of vertical drains to stabilize subgrade under cyclic *** undrained cyclic triaxial testing on vulnerable soft subgrade was performed by varying the cyclic stress ratio(CSR)from 0.2 to 1.0 and the loading frequency f from 1.0 to 5.0 *** is seen from the test results that for a specimen compacted at an initial dry density of 1790 kg/m3,the top portion of the specimen fluidises at CSR=0.5,irrespective of the applied loading *** cyclic railway loading,the internal redistribution of water at the top of the subgrade layer softens the soil and also reduces its *** response to these problems,this paper explains how the inclusion of vertical drains in soft subgrade will help to prevent mud pumping by alleviating the build-up of excess pore pressures under moving train loads.

Excess available K and Fe in Fe ore tailings with organic matter amendment and water-deficiencies may restrain plant colonization and growth,which hinders the formation of eco-engineered soil from these tailings for sustainable and cost-effective mine site *** mycorrhizal(AM)fungi are widely demonstrated to assist plant growth under various unfavorable ***,it is still unclear whether AM symbiosis in tailings amended with different types of plant biomass and under different water conditions could overcome the surplus K and Fe stress for plants in Fe ore tailings,and if so,by what ***,host plants(Sorghum *** ***),either colonized or noncolonized by the AM fungi(Glomus spp.),were cultivated in lucerne hay(LH,C:N ratio of 18)-or sugarcane mulch(SM,C:N ratio of 78)-amended Fe ore tailings under well-watered(55%water-holding capacity(WHC)of tailings)or water-deficient(30%WHC of tailings)*** mycorrhizal colonization,plant growth,and mineral elemental uptake and partitioning were *** indicated that AM fungal colonization improved plant growth in tailings amended with plant biomass under water-deficient *** mycorrhizal fungal colonization enhanced plant mineral element uptake,especially P,both in the LH-and SM-amended tailings regardless of water ***,AM symbiosis development restrained the translocation of excess elements(i.e.,K and Fe)from plant roots to shoots,thereby relieving their *** AM fungal roles in P uptake and excess elemental partitioning were greater in LH-amended tailings than in SM-amended *** deficiency weakened AM fungal colonization and functions in terms of mineral element uptake and *** findings highlighted the vital role AM fungi played in regulating plant growth and nutrition status in Fe ore tailings technosol,providing an important basis for involvement of AM fungi in the eco-engineered pedo

Increasing demand for weight reduction and greater fuel efficiency continues to spur the use of composite materials in commercial aircraft structures. Subsequently, as composite aerostructures become larger and more complex, traditional autoclave manufacturing methods are becoming prohibitively expensive. This has prompted renewed interest in out-of-autoclave processing techniques in which resins are introduced into a reinforcing preform. However, the success of these resin infusion methods is highly dependent upon operator skill and experience, particularly in the development of new manufacturing strategies for complex parts. Process modeling, as a predictive computational tool, aims to address the issues of reliability and waste that result from traditional trial-and-error approaches. Basic modeling attempts, many of which are still used in industry, generally focus on simulating fluid flow through an isotropic porous reinforcement material. How- ever, recent efforts are beginning to account for the multiscale and multidisciplinary complexity of woven materials, in simulations that can provide greater fidelity. In particular, new multi-physics process models are able to better predict the infusion behavior through textiles by considering the effect of fabric deformation on permeability and porosity properties within the reinforcing material. In addition to reviewing pre- vious research related to process modeling and the current state of the art, this paper highlights the recent validation of a multi-physics process model against the experimental infusion of a complex double dome component. By accounting for deformation-dependent flow behavior, the multi-physics process model was able to predict realistic flow behavior, demonstrating considerable improvement over basic isotropic permeability models.

Solid-state electrolytes(SSEs)are a solution to safety issues related to flammable organic electrolytes for Li *** contact between the anode and SSE results in high interface resistance,thus causing the batteries to exhibit high charging and discharging ***,we reduced the overpotential of Li stripping and plating by introducing a high proportion of dual-conductive phases into a composite *** current study investigates the interface resistance and stability of a composite electrode modified with Zn and a lower proportion of dual-conductive ***-cation-adsorbed Prussian blue is synthesized as an intermediate component for a Zn-modified composite electrode(Li-FeZnNC).The Li-FeZnNC symmetric cell presents a lower interface resistance and overpotential compared with Li-FeNC(without Zn modification)and Li-symmetric *** Li-FeZnNC symmetric cell shows high electrochemical stability during Li stripping and plating at different current densities and high stability for 200 *** batteries with a Li-FeZnNC composite anode,garnet-type SSE,and LiFePO4 cathode show low charging and discharging overpotentials,a capacity of 152 mAh g^(−1),and high stability for 200 cycles.

The effect of oil shale semi-coke(SC)on the mineralogy and morphology of the ash deposited on probes situated in the flue path of a circulating fluidized bed(CFB)which burns Zhundong lignite(ZD)was investigated.10 wt%or 20 wt%SC was added to ZD,which were then combusted in the CFB furnace at 950℃.Two probes with vertical and horizontal orientations were installed in the flue duct to simulate ash *** windward and leeward ash deposits on probes(P_(1)W,P_(1)L,P_(2)W and P_(2)L)were analyzed by using a scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray(SEM-EDX),X-ray diffraction(XRD),an inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry ICP-OES,and a particle size *** ZD was burned alone,the P1W deposit was comprised of agglomerates(<30µm)enriched in CaSO_(4)and Na_(2)SiO_(3),incurring significant *** P1L and P2W deposits,however,were of both discrete and agglomerated particles in similar mineral phases but with coarser *** P_(2)L deposit was mainly fine ash particles where Na_(2)SiO_(3)and Na_(2)SO_(4)were *** SC was added,the agglomerates in both P1W and P1L ***,SiO_(2)and Ca/Na aluminosilicates dominated the mineral phases whereas Na_(2)SiO_(3)and Na_(2)SO_(4)disappeared,showing a decrease in deposit ***,the P2W deposit was found less spread on the probe,decreasing its deposition ***-bearing minerals turned into(Na,K)(Si_(3)Al)O_(8)and(Ca,Na)(Si,Al)4O8 in the P_(2)W ***,Na in the deposits decreased from 32 mg/g to less than 15 mg/g as SC *** addition of SC would therefore help alleviate the propensity of ash deposition in the flue path in the CFB combustion of ZD.

目的:压力管道是海洋石油化工等领域的常用构件,但经常受到泄漏、爆炸和冲击等事件的威胁。本文旨在探讨压力管道在高速冲击作用下的力学响应及失效机理。创新点:1.开发考虑金属大变形和高应变率的非线性模型,通过基于表面的流体腔模型来模拟管道气体和管道的耦合作用,简化计算模型,提高计算效率;2.通过非线性有限元模型,对管道高速冲击响应的影响因素进行研究分析。方法:1.采用Johnson-Cook模型模拟金属的大应变及大应变率;2.采用基于表面的流体腔模拟管道与内部气体的耦合作用;3.与实验结果对比验证模型的准确性;4.分析影响管道抗冲击性能的参数。结论:1.管道壁厚显著影响管道的抗冲击性能;2.在相同冲量下,冲击头与管道的接触面积越小,管道越容易被穿透;3.在管道受到冲击时,管道内压越大,管道抗穿透能力越小;4.在管道未被破坏时,管道内压能够增加管道的弹性,减小管道受冲击后的凹陷深度。
