Measuring disturbance at swift breeding colonies due to the visual aspects of a drone:a quasi-experiment study

There is a growing body of research indicating that drones can disturb ***,it is usu-ally unclear whether the disturbance is due to visual or auditory ***,we examined the effect of drone flights on the behavior of great dusky swifts Cypseloides senex and white collared swifts Streptoprocne zonaris in 2 breeding sites where drone noise was obscured by environmental noise from waterfalls and any disturbance must be largely *** performed 12 experimental flights with a multirotor drone at different vertical,horizontal,and diagonal distances from the *** all flights,17%causedof birds to temporarily a bandon the breeding site,50%caused half to abandon,and 33%caused more than half to *** found that the diagonal distance explained 98.9%of the variability of the disturbance percentage and while at distances>50 m the disturbance percentage does not exceed 20%,ato>60%.We recommend that flights with a multirotor drone during the breeding period should be con-ducted at a distance of>50 m and that recreational flights should be discouraged or conducted at larger distances(e.g.100 m)in nesting birds areas such as waterfalls,canyons,and caves.

The Brazilian state of Acre has an extensive natural reserve of bamboo,making it one of the largest in loco gene *** aim of this study was to characterize the structure and genetic diversity of Guadua weberbaueri *** two populations,one native(FAPB)and the other anthropized(FAPBA),using ISSR *** results show that the FAPB population exhibited higher values for all estimates of population ***,the FAPBA population also showed high heterozygosity,corroborated by estimated gene flow(Nm=3.9)between the *** study of the association between Nei’s genetic distances and the geographic distances between the populations were significantly correlated(r=0.45,p=0.01),corroborated by the dendrogram revealing two distinct groups corresponding to the collection sites,without mixing classes between populations in the same *** for the coancestry coefficient,pairs of individuals in the first distance class were positive and significant,indicating that plants that are geographically closer share common alleles with a frequency greater than by chance,which means that there is a tendency that geographically closer individuals are *** presented similar genetic structure when the geographical distance between them was up to 56 m for FAPB and up to 156 m for *** was concluded that anthropized environments exhibit less genetic diversity than native environments,inferring risks for species conservation if appropriate and planned management techniques are not adopted.

关于热带雨林(对火敏感)和开放地层(耐火)之间边界所涉及过程的认识对于保护生物多样性和生态系统服务至关重要,尤其是在气候变化和人为压力增加的情况下。本文调查了位于巴西东南部的Espinhaco生物圈保护区内的森林岛屿和湿润草原同时出现的主要环境因素。我们使用Costa(2018)布置的永久样地来收集森林岛屿的土壤变量(水分和化学性质)。对于湿润草原的采样,我们从岛屿边缘沿不同方向设置了4条30m的线。随后,我们在每条线上划了3个点,每个点相距10m,每个区域共12个点。我们还调查了处理火烧前后的植被覆盖情况,并对环境变量进行均值检验和主成分分析。研究结果显示,森林岛屿土壤中钾、盐基总量、阳离子交换容量和有机质的值均高于湿润草地。因此,两种植被类型之间的边界定义似乎主要与土壤肥力和水分梯度有关。在对这些地区进行火烧处理后,在岛屿边缘附近没有发现树木个体的再生。因此,这些研究结果表明,由于明确的土壤气候条件,森林岛屿无法扩张。因此,这些环境应该成为设计公共保护政策的目标焦点,因为它们增加了山地岩石草原植被景观的复杂性。

Hybridization despite elaborate courtship behavior and female choice in Neotropical tree frogs

The mechanisms of hybridization can be elucidated by analyzing genotypes as well as phenotypes that could act as premating barriers,as the reproductive interactions among heterospeciﬁcs can alter the evolutionary history of *** frogs,hybrids typically occur among species that reproduce explosively(in dense aggregations)with few opportunities for mate selection but are rare in species with elaborate courtship behaviors that may prevent erroneous *** 21 microsatellite markers,we examined hybridization in the prolonged-breeding tree frogs Bokermannohyla ibitiguara and *** sampled within a contact zone in the Brazilian savanna(72 tadpoles;74 adults).We also compared acoustic and morphological *** conﬁrmed both parental species genetically;STRUCTURE results conﬁrmed 14 hybrids,11 of which were second-generation according to NEWHYBRIDS,all with intermediate values of genetic dissimilarities compared to the *** and acoustic analyses revealed that hybrids showed variable but not necessarily intermediate ***,2 hybrids exhibited call types different from *** reproduction of *** involves territorial and aggressive males,elaborate courtships with acoustic and tactile stimuli,choosy females,and opportunistic *** study uncovers a rare case of viable hybridization among closely related frogs with such a combination of complex courtship behaviors and mate *** discuss the likely directionality and mechanisms behind this phenomenon,and highlight the importance of investigating hybridization even in species that show elaborate reproduction and female choice to advance our understanding of animal diversiﬁcation.
