This project studies marine terraces in western Messenia, southwestern Peloponnese, greece, to propose a model of neotectonic configuration and paleogeographic evolution of western Messenia during the Quaternary. GIS analysis of topographic data and geological mapping revealed flanks of raised terraces created on Quaternary marine deposits. Luminescence ages of sediments from the three westernmost marine terraces tend to be consistent OIS-5, OIS-7 and OIS-9, respectively, thus agreeing with the three latest warm stages of the Pleistocene. Moreover, the type and the extent of deformation of the dated marine terraces allowed us to reflect on the neotectonic configuration of western Messenia as well as to conclude that progressive differential uplift over the last 300 ka has induced a dome-like structure to the upper crust of western Messenia.

AIM：To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of the fixed combination of bimatoprost 0.03%and timolol 0.5%（BTFC）in patients in greece with primary open angle glaucoma（POAG）or ocular hypertension（OHT）whose previous therapy provided insufficient lowering of intraocular pressure（IOP）.·METHODS：A multicenter,prospective,open-label,non-interventional,observational study of the use of BTFC in clinical practice was conducted at 41 sites in *** primary endpoint was the reduction in IOP from baseline at study end,approximately 12wk after initiation of BTFC therapy.·RESULTS：A total of 785 eligible patients were enrolled in the study and 97.6%completed the *** mean±SD IOP reduction from baseline at 12wk after initiation of BTFC was 6.3±2.8 mm Hg（=764;〈0.001）.In patients（=680）who replaced their previous IOP-lowering monotherapy（a single drug,or a fixed combination of 2drugs in a single ophthalmic drop）with once-daily BTFC,the mean±SD IOP reduction from baseline at 12wk was 6.2±2.8 mm Hg（〈0.001）.IOP was reduced from baseline in 99.2%of patients,and 58.0%of patients reached or exceeded their target *** mean IOP reductions were observed regardless of the previous *** was well tolerated,with 96.0%of patients who completed the study rating the tolerability of BTFC as＂good＂or＂very good.＂Adverse events were reported in 8.3%of patients;only 0.6%of patients discontinued the study due to adverse events.·C ONCLUSION：In clinical practice in greece,BTFC is well tolerated and effectively lower the IOP in patients with POAG or OHT who requires additional IOP lowering on their previous therapy.

AIM: To assess the trends in the incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) over 23 years in the same area and to identify genetic factors related to incidence evolution. METHODS: Patients with IBD arising from North- western greece were systematically recorded through the 1983-2005 period. Trends in disease incidence and genetic patterns related to CARD15 variants were documented and correlated. RESULTS: A total of 447 patients with IBD were recorded (23.5% Crohn’s disease, 72.7% Ulcerative colitis and 3.8% indeterminate colitis). Mean annual incidence rates of CD and UC were 0.9/100 000 (95% CI 0.1-1.7) and 2.7/100 000 (95% CI 1.7-4.1) inhabitants, respectively. There was a statistically significant increase of CD incidence (P greece has risen disproportionately to that of UC in the 21st century. This is not related to alterations of genetic background though.

In this paper,we describe and analyze two datasets entitled“Homogenised monthly and daily temperature and precipitation time series in China during 1960–2021”and“Homogenised monthly and daily temperature and precipitation time series in greece during 1960–2010”.These datasets provide the homogenised monthly and daily mean(TG),minimum(TN),and maximum(TX)temperature and precipitation(RR)records since 1960 at 366 stations in China and 56stations in *** datasets are available at the Science Data Bank repository and can be downloaded from https://***/10.57760/sciencedb.01731 and https://***/10.57760/*** China,the regional mean annual TG,TX,TN,and RR series during 1960–2021 showed significant warming or increasing trends of 0.27℃(10 yr)^(-1),0.22℃(10 yr)^(-1),0.35℃(10 yr)^(-1),and 6.81 mm(10 yr)-1,*** of the seasonal series revealed trends significant at the 0.05level,except for the spring,summer,and autumn RR *** greece,there were increasing trends of 0.09℃(10 yr)-1,0.08℃(10 yr)^(-1),and 0.11℃(10 yr)^(-1)for the annual TG,TX,and TN series,respectively,while a decreasing trend of–23.35 mm(10 yr)^(-1)was present for *** seasonal trends showed a significant warming rate for summer,but no significant changes were noted for spring(except for TN),autumn,and *** RR,only the winter time series displayed a statistically significant and robust trend[–15.82 mm(10 yr)^(-1)].The final homogenised temperature and precipitation time series for both China and greece provide a better representation of the large-scale pattern of climate change over the past decades and provide a quality information source for climatological analyses.

The average values of the seasonal flesh biochemical composition(%)of the pearl oyster Pinctada imbricata radiata originated form 2 sampling sites,the gulfs of Evoikos(E)and Saronikos(S)in the Western Aegean Sea,showed that is rich in proteins(64.00±1.86-(E),64.67±2.95-(S))with low fat content(10.96±1.04-(E),11.86±1.13-(S))and carbohydrates(13.29±2.48-(E),9.94±4.32(S)).The condition index ranged from 26.16%±5.04 in the autumn in(E),to 44.73%±7.50 in the summer in(S).The meat yield varied from 20.49%±3.20%in the summer in(E)to 30.73%±3.47%in the summer in(S).Both results demonstrate the high nutritional profile of the pearl oyster,supporting its suitability as a potential new Mediterranean seafood source for human consumption.

We examined the whole strong earthquake recurrence behaviors of two fault zones along the Kefallinia Transform, Ionian Sea, greece, using seismological data and statistical methods. Our data include 29 events with M 〉 5.5 for the period 1636 - 2003. We found different recurrence behaviors for the Kefallinia Fault Zone （clustering and time-predictable recurrence behaviors） and the Letkada Fault Zone （near random and non-slip-predictable or non-time-predictable recurrence nature）. The different modes may be attributed to：（a） segment interaction along-strike （Kefallinia） by static triggering and （b） the influence of fault systems to the north and east on the recurrence on Lefkada. Within the active periods, earthquake recurrence intervals are distributed in a more dispersed fashion, and can be fitted well by a Weibull distribution. In contrast, the distribution of the quiet periods is relatively less dispersed and difficult to describe by suitable probability functions.

AIM: To investigate the role of octreotide on cellular proliferation and apoptosis of human hepatoma (HepG2) cells. METHODS: We studied cellular proliferation, apoptosis and the possible internal caspase-mediated apoptosis pathway involved, after treatment of HepG2 carcinoma cells with octreotide in comparison with the apoptosis caused by tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Activities of caspase-3, caspase-9, caspase-8 and caspase-2 were studied, while apoptosis was investigated through detection of DNA fragmentation and through identification of apoptotic cells with the annexin-V/propidium iodide flow cytometric method. RESULTS: After an initial increase in HepG2 cellular proliferation, a significant inhibition was observed with 10-8 mol/L octreotide, while TNF-α dose-dependently decreased proliferation. Early and late apoptosis was significantly increased with both substances. Octreotide significantly increased caspase-3, caspase-8 and caspase-2 activity. TNF-α signifi cantly increased only caspase-2. Cellular proliferation was decreased after treatment with octreotide or TNF-α alone but, in contrast to TNF-α, octreotide decreased proliferation only at concentrations of 10-8 mol/L, while lower concentrations increased proliferation. CONCLUSION: Our findings are suggestive of caspasemediated signaling pathways of octreotide antitumor activity in HepG2 cells, and indicate that measurements of serum octreotide levels may be important, at least in clinical trials, to verify optimal therapeutic drug concentrations.
