Contamination,Fractionation and Availability of Metals in Urban Soils in the Vicinity of Former Lead and Zinc Smelters,france

Soil contamination by metals from anthropogenic activities （e.g., mining and smelting） is a major concern for the environment and human health. Environmental availability of cadmium （Cd）, lead （Pb）, zinc （Zn）, copper （Cu）, and indium （In） in 27 urban soils located around two former Pb and Zn smelters in Northern france were studied by analysing the chemical forms of these metals and evaluating their phytoavailability. These metals were determined using flame or electrothermal absorption atomic spectrometry （FAAS or ETAAS）, depending on their concentration levels. After optimisation of the ETAAS method, characteristic mass of In in water and aqua regia were 9.9 and 18 pg, respectively, showing the high sensitivity of the analytical procedure. Metal partitioning was conducted using a four-step sequential extraction procedure. The results showed that Cd and Zn were mainly in the acid-extractable and reducible forms in the urban soils studied. In contrast, Pb and In were largely in the reducible fraction. However, in some samples, the amount of In extracted in the residual or exchangeable fraction was higher than that in the reducible fraction. Copper was mainly found in the reducible and residual fractions. A pot experiment was conducted in a glasshouse with seven soils （six contaminated and one uncontaminated） and two plant species, ryegrass and lettuce. The results showed transfer of metals from the contaminated soils to the shoots of ryegrass and the edible part of lettuce. The metal bioconcentration factor was in the order of Cd 〉〉 Cu 〉 In 〉 Zn 〉〉 Pb for lettuce leaves, whereas for ryegrass shoots, three orders were found, Cd 〉 Zn 〉 Cu 〉〉 In 〉 Pb, Cd 〉〉 In 〉 Zn 〉 Cu 〉〉Pb, and Zn 〉 Cd 〉 Cu 〉 In 〉〉 Pb, depending on the physico-chemical properties of the soils, such as pH, cation exchange capacity, carbonates, and organic matter. The French National Immunization Program was updated in 2013 for vaccination against diphtheria,tetanus,per-tussis,and *** previous findings on the evolution of age-specific booster vaccination coverage rates(VCRs)up to 2017 suggested suboptimal vaccination coverages due to the pre-2013 recommendation-residual vaccination *** the current analysis,we evaluated all age-specific booster VCR and distribution of age at vaccination visits in *** this retrospective observational cohort study,the cumulative booster VCRs were updated at all vaccination visits up to 2018 among the people who were eligible for a booster vaccination,using a 1/97th random sample of French national healthcare reimbursement *** cumulative booster VCR for individuals from all age groups increased from 2017 to 2018,except for 85-years-old vaccination *** of the individuals from all age groups were vaccinated(boosted)with a vaccine containing the pertussis *** 2018,sharp peaks corresponding to the recommended ages for booster vaccination visits were observed for individuals aged 6,11 to 13,25,45,and 65 *** study reiterates suboptimal coverages in france and implies the need for booster vaccination throughout life for the protection of the population.

Seasonal,diurnal and nocturnal variations of carbonyl compounds in the semi-urban environment of Orléans,france

Atmospheric carbonyls were measured at a semi-urban site in Orléans, france, from October 2010to July2011. Formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and acetone were found to be the most abundant carbonyls, with average concentrations of 3.1, 1.0, 2.0 ppb, respectively in summer, 2.3, 0.7, 2.2 ppb, respectively in autumn, 2.2, 1.0, 2.1 ppb, respectively in spring,and 1.5, 0.7, 1.1 ppb, respectively in winter. Photo-oxidation of volatile organic compounds（VOCs） was found to make a remarkable contribution to atmospheric carbonyls in the semi-urban site based on the distinct seasonal and diurnal variations of the carbonyls, as well as the significantly positive correlations between the carbonyls and ozone. The significantly negative correlations between NO x and O_3 as well as the carbonyls and the positive correlations between wind speed and O_3 as well as the carbonyls implied that the carbonyls and O_3 at the semi-urban site were probably formed during air mass transport from neighboring cities.

Influence of ship emissions on NOx, SO2, O3 and PM concentrations in a North-Sea harbor in france

The influence of in-port ship emissions on gases and PM10 concentrations has been estimated in the port city of Calais, northern france, one of the busiest harbor in Europe, with numerous rotations of ferries or roll-on/roll-off cargo in average per day. NOx, SO2, O3 and PM10 concentrations were continuously measured over a three-month period, as well as real-time particle size distribution. A rural site located at Cape Gris-Nez, 20 km from Calais, was considered to deduce intrinsic contribution of ship emissions at the harbor city. The average concentrations of the studied species as well as the pattern of the conditional bivariate probability function at the two sites evidenced that in-port shipping, especially during the maneuvering operations, has an important influence on the NOx and SO2 concentrations. The impact of shipping in the harbor of Calais on average concentrations was estimated to 5l% for SO2, 35% for NO, 15% for NO2 and 2% for PM10 in the studied period. Concentration peaks of SO2 and NOx associated with an 03 depletion appeared synchronized with departures and arrivals of ferries. For winds blowing from the harbor, when compared to the background level, the number of particles appeared 10 times higher, with the highest differences in the 30-67 nm and the 109-167 nm size ranges. The average impact of in-port ships on PM10 concentrations was estimated to ＋28.9 μg/m^3 and concerned mainly the PM1 size fraction （40%）. Punctually, PM10 can potentially reach a concentration value close to 100μg/m^3.

Background: Intensive silvicultural practices and the planting of monospecific forests of coniferous, that are more productive compared to hardwoods may threaten over the mid to long-term the sustainability of soil chemical fertility of forest ecosystems, and are a major concern for forest managers and ***: We investigated the tree species effect(Quercus sessiliflora Smith, Fagus sylvatica L., Picea abies Karst.,Pseudotsuga menziesii Mirb. Franco., Abies nordmanniana Spach. and Pinus nigra Arn. ssp. laricio Poiret var. corsicana) on the change over time of soil chemical properties and nutrient pool sizes in the mineral and organic layers of the soil during the 45 years after the plantation of the Breuil-Chenue common garden experiment(Burgundy,france). The organic and mineral soil layers down to 70-cm depth were sampled in the different monospecific plots in 1974, 2001 and ***: Exchangeable Ca and Mg pools and soil pH increased on average over time in the 0–70 cm soil profile in most stands. However, in the topsoil layers(0–15 cm), the decrease of pH, the increase of exchangeable acidity over time under the coniferous stands and the decrease of exchangeable K pools in most stands highlighted that soil acidification is still on-going at Breuil-Chenue site but the intensity of this process depends on the tree ***, three groups of species could be distinguished: i) Nordmann fir(Abies nordmanniana Spach.)/Norway spruce(Picea abies Karst.) where acidolysis and chelation occurred, resulting in the most pronounced pH decrease in the topsoil, ii) Douglas fir(Pseudotsuga menziesii Mirb. Estimation of Soil Carbon Input in france: An Inverse Modelling Approach

Development of a quantitative understanding of soil organic carbon （SOC） dynamics is vital for management of soil to sequester carbon （C） and maintain fertility, thereby contributing to food security and climate change mitigation. There are well-established process-based models that can be used to simulate SOC stock evolution; however, there are few plant residue C input values and those that exist represent a limited range of environments. This limitation in a fundamental model component （i.e., C input） constrains the reliability of current SOC stock simulations. This study aimed to estimate crop-specific and environment-specific plant-derived soil C input values for agricultural sites in france based on data from 700 sites selected from a recently established French soil monitoring network （the RMQS database）. Measured SOC stock values from this large scale soil database were used to constrain an inverse RothC modelling approach to derive estimated C input values consistent with the stocks. This approach allowed us to estimate significant crop-specific C input values （P 〈 0.05） for 14 out of 17 crop types in the range from 1.84 =h 0.69 t C ha-1 year-1 （silage corn） to 5.15 =k 0.12 t C ha-1 year-1 （grassland/pasture）. Furthermore, the incorporation of climate variables improved the predictions. C input of 4 crop types could be predicted as a function of temperature and 8 as a function of precipitation. This study offered an approach to meet the urgent need for crop-specific and environment-specific C input values in order to improve the reliability of SOC stock prediction.

Sporadic venous malformations are genetic conditions primarily caused by somatic gain-of-function mutation of PIK3CA or TEK,an endothelial transmembrane receptor signaling through *** malformations are associated with pain,bleedings,thrombosis,pulmonary embolism,esthetic deformities and,in severe cases,life-threatening *** authorized medical treatment exists for patients with venous ***,we created a genetic mouse model of PIK3CA-related capillary venous malformations that replicates patient *** showed that these malformations only partially signal through AKT *** compared the efficacy of different drugs,including rapamycin,a mTORC1 inhibitor,miransertib,an AKT inhibitor and alpelisib,a PI3Kαinhibitor at improving the lesions seen in the mouse *** demonstrated the effectiveness of alpelisib in preventing vascular malformations’occurrence,improving the already established ones,and prolonging *** these findings,we were authorized to treat 25 patients with alpelisib,including 7 children displaying PIK3CA(n=16)or TEK(n=9)-related capillary venous malformations resistant to usual therapies including sirolimus,debulking surgical procedures or percutaneous *** assessed the volume of vascular malformations using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)for each *** demonstrated improvement in all 25 *** malformations previously considered intractable were reduced and clinical symptoms were *** showed a decrease of 33.4%and 27.8%in the median volume of PIK3CA and TEK malformations respectively,over 6 months on *** conclusion,this study supports PI3Kαinhibition as a promising therapeutic strategy in patients with PIK3CA or TEK-related capillary venous malformations.

Identification of Secondary Metabolites in Tunisian Tilia platyphyllos *** MALDI-TOF and GC-MS

This study is the first to evaluate the phytochemical content and biological properties of Tunisian *** Scop.A total of 23 compounds of essential oils were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)analysis of bracts and fruit *** results show that oxygenated monoterpenes were the dominant class of essential *** phenolic composition was investigated by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionizationtime of flight(MALDI-TOF).The analysis showed that the chemical profiles of the ethanolic extracts of bracts and fruits are substantially *** highest polyphenol content was found in the ethanolic extracts of the fruits(7.65 mg gallic acid equivalents(GAE).g−1 on dry weight(DW).As for the antioxidant capacity,it was recorded in the essential oils of the fruits(IC_(50)=0.91 ***^(−1)).The results obtained showed that the antioxidant activity of the fruit essential oil was higher than that of the ethanol *** fruit essential oil was also found to have the highest reducing power(IC_(50)=0.67 ***^(−1)).In terms of iron-chelating power,fruit essential oil has the highest chelating power(IC_(50)=2.03 ***^(−1)).Compared to the ethanolic extract,the essential oil had the maximum antioxidant *** enzymatic activity of acetylcholinesterase(AChE)inhibition of the essential oil from *** bracts had the most potent inhibitory effect(IC_(50)=0.77 ***^(−1)),followed by the essential oil from the fruits(IC_(50)=0.95 ***^(−1)).The results suggest that *** can be used as a potential source of naturally occurring bioactive compounds and antioxidants.
