Status of Stratigraphy Research in China

Scientific research and productive practice for earth history are inseparable from the accurate stratigraphic framework and time framework. Establishing the globally unified, precise and reliable chronostratigraphic series and geological time series is the major goal of the International Commission on Stratigraphy （ICS）. Under the leadership of the ICS, the countries around the world have carried out research on the Global Standard Stratotype-section and Points （GSSPs） for the boundaries of chronostratigraphic systems. In the current International Chronostratigraphic Chart （ICC）, 65 GSSPs have been erected in the Phanerozoic Eonothem, and one has yet been erected in the Precambrian Eonothem. Based on the progress of research on stratigraphy especially that from its subcommissions, the ICS is constantly revising the ICC, and will publish a new International Stratigraphic Guide in 2020. After continual efforts and broad international cooperation of Chinese stratigraphers, 10 GSSPs within the Phanerozoic Eonothem have been approved and ratified to erect in China by the ICS and IUGS. To establish the standards for strafigraphic division and correlation of China, with the support from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the China Geological Survey, Chinese stratigraphers have carried out research on the establishment of Stages in China. A total of 102 stages have been defined in the ＂Regional Chronostratigraphic Chart of China （geologic time）＂, in which 59 stages were studied in depth. In 2014, the ＂Stratigraphic Chart of China＂ was compiled, with the essential contents as follows： the correlation between international chronostratigraphy and regional chronostratigraphy of China （geologic time）, the distributive status of lithostratigraphy, the characteristics of geological ages, the biostratigraphic sequence, the magnetostratigraphy, the geological events and eustatic sea-level change during every geological stage.

New Fossil Liverworts from the Lower Cretaceous of Western Liaoning, China

Sixteen liverwort specimens collected from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation of Huangbanjigou Village, Liaoning Province, China are studied in this work. The plants are thalloid and preserved in brown arenaceous mudstone as impressions. Based on examinations, the liverworts are assigned to two new genera and five new species： Riccardiothallus palmata sp. nov., Pallaviciniites stricta sp. nov., Pellites latithallus gen. et sp. nov., Conocephalumites hexagonites gen. et sp. nov. and Metzgerites multifidus sp. nov., belonging to five families and five genera. The fossil research indicates that the divergence of families, Aneuraceae and Metzgeriaceae, Pallaviciniaceae and Hymenophytaceae,Pelliaceae and Fossombroniaceae, was in the Lower Cretaceous（125 Ma）. The research provides significant additions to the fossil liverwort records in Western Liaoning and offers fossil evidence for studying the classification and evolution of extant liverworts.

Triassic Scleractinian Corals in China：A Review of Present Knowledge

Scleractinian corals appeared during the Anisian period of the Triassic after the end-Permian mass extinction, which in Triassic were distinct from the Jurassic-Cretaceous scleractinian corals. The study on Triassic scleractinian coral fauna as a separate field is significant for exploring the development and evolution of modern corals and investigating environmental changes since the Mesozoic. The first Triassic coral in China was reported in 1925, and since then, nearly 25 articles dealing with taxonomy and 17 papers about fossil reports on Triassic scleractinian corals in China have been published, which refer to 60 genera and 312 species, 49 localities and 25 strata. In this paper, the history, taxonomy, localities, stratigraphic distribution, current research, and existing knowledge gaps of the Triassic scleractinian corals in China are reviewed. More specifically, the research findings of the Triassic scleractinain coral in China since 1925 are discussed; the species of the Triassic scleractian coral fossil reported in China, has been examined and its synonyms have been sorted out; the geographical distributions of the Middle and Late Triassic scleractinian corals in China are systematically treated; the Triassic coral biostratigraphy in China has been improved; and the stratigraphic ranges of existing genera and species are provided. The above conclusions are presented in the form of complete figures. At the same time, we analyzed shortcomings in current research and identified productive future research directions of the Triassic scleractinian corals in China.

Conodonts and Carbon Isotopes during the Permian-Triassic Transition on the Napo Platform, South China

Two Permian-Triassic boundary(PTB) sections(Pojue and Dala) are well exposed in an isolated carbonate platform(Napo Platform) on the southwestern margin of the Nanpanjiang Basin, South China. These sections provide an insight into the transition across the PTB and a detailed investigation of the conodont biostratigraphy and inorganic carbon isotopes is presented. The PTB at the Pojue Section is placed at the base of Bed 10 B(a dolomitized mudstone found below a microbialite horizon), defined by the first occurrence of Hindeodus parvus. At the Dala Section, four conodont zones occur. They are, in ascending order, the Hindeodus parvus Zone, Isarcicella staeschei Zone, Isarcicella isarcica Zone and Clarkina planata Zone. Comparison with the Pojue Section suggests the PTB at Dala also occurs at the base of dolomitized mudstone below a microbialite horizon, although the first occurrence of Hindeodus parvus is near the top of a microbialite bed: an occurrence that is also seen in other platform sections. The succeeding microbialite beds developed during the ongoing PTB mass extinction phase. This time was characterized by low carbon isotope values, and a microbialite ecosystem that provided a refuge for selected groups(bivalves, ostracods and microgastropods) that were likely tolerant of extremely high temperatures.

冀东地区新太古代晚期的岩浆事件与地壳增生:来自岩石地球化学和锆石年龄及Hf同位素的制约

在华北克拉通东部冀东的遵化-迁西-迁安地区广泛分布有新太古代晚期的斜长角闪岩(基性火山岩)、TTG片麻岩和紫苏闪长岩/紫苏花岗岩。锆石U-Pb同位素测定表明,该区的斜长角闪岩、TTG片麻岩和紫苏闪长岩/紫苏花岗岩几乎同时形成于2529±30Ma到2555±14Ma期间。这是华北克拉通新太古代晚期一次重要的岩浆事件,并紧随有2.5Ga左右的麻粒岩相变质作用。阴极发光图像显示,TTG片麻岩和紫苏闪长岩/紫苏花岗岩中一些锆石的核部为灰黑色,具杉树叶结构或无内部结构,意味着这些锆石核部的U-Th-Pb同位素体系在变质作用期间受到了干扰或重置,因此岩浆锆石核部的207Pb/206Pb加权平均年龄通常被解释为代表岩浆事件最年轻的年龄。新太古代晚期TTG片麻岩和紫苏闪长岩/紫苏花岗岩的岩浆锆石具有正的εHf(t)值(-0.08~9.49),计算的tDM1(Hf)模式年龄介于2572~2896Ma之间,峰值年龄为2.72Ga。这表明,TTG片麻岩和紫苏闪长岩/紫苏花岗岩的母岩浆是从亏损地幔源分异出来的,且2.7Ga是研究区和华北克拉通最重要的一次地壳增生事件。地球化学和岩石成因研究表明,本区的TTG片麻岩和紫苏闪长岩/紫苏花岗岩是由来自新生地壳基性岩石部分熔融形成的岩浆通过结晶分离形成的,其中角闪石是主要的分离相矿物。地幔柱模式更有利于解释本区TTG片麻岩和紫苏闪长岩/紫苏花岗岩的成因以及冀东地区的许多其他地质特征。

基于吉林白山大阳岔小阳桥剖面高精度多学科交叉研究,综合高分辨率生物、层序、化学和磁性地层学的再研究成果,国际奥陶系分会于2019年5月表决通过了中国北方小阳桥剖面为奥陶系底界的全球辅助层型剖面和点(ASSP),即新修的标准辅助界线层型(SABS)(Martinetal.,2022a,2022b),从而为国内外其他区块寒武系-奥陶系界线的精确划分和对比提供了新依据。据此,本文讨论了以下剖面的寒武系-奥陶系界线精确划分与对比问题:位于华夏地块大陆边缘岛弧或弧后盆地相的广东台山新厂阶命名剖面,分别位于扬子地块台地、陆棚-斜坡和斜坡-盆地相的湖北宜昌黄花场两河口剖面、江西修水武宁剖面和湖南常德瓦尔岗剖面,分别位于中朝地块台地和台缘的河北唐山赵阁庄剖面和山东青州饶王山剖面,位于新疆塔里木地块巴楚—西边大板塔格一带寒武系-奥陶系界线所在剖面,位于加拿大纽芬兰绿岬GSSP剖面,以及位于美国犹他州劳森湾的ASSP剖面。值得注意的是,新建立的小阳桥ASSP剖面位于陆棚-斜坡过渡地带,在古地理位置上正好处于浅水碳酸盐台地(如美国劳森湾ASSP)与深水下斜坡(如加拿大绿岬GSSP)和深水下斜坡-盆地(如中国湖南瓦尔岗(Wargang或Wa’ergan))剖面之间的关键位置,从而成为连接他们之间的纽带和对比标志,并据此提高国内外相关界线划分与对比的准确性。此外,小阳桥ASSP详细的生物、沉积、化学和磁性地层分析揭示了绿岬GSSP剖面所指定的GSSP生物和地球化学标志,说明绿岬GSSP剖面的寒武系-奥陶系界线应对比于小阳桥ASSP剖面的标志性块状叠层石石灰岩(0m)之上的第24层(BD24)底部(19.9±0.2m);生物地层学上,该界线位于牙形石Cordylodusintermedius带上部(Cordyloduslindstromi带底界之下1.5m),在最早的浮游笔石(Rhabdinoporaproparabola)首现(FAD)层位(BD26)之下1 m处。层序地层、海平面变化、事件地层和化学地层研究表明,奥陶系底界位于全球弓头虫(Acerocare)低水位事件之下、稀土元素地球化学异常(REE)之上,继之出现最大碳同位素(δ^(13)Ccarb)正偏移(no.3)。这些物理和化学变化为破解全球寒武系-奥陶系界线的精确划分与对比问题,特别是为解决不同大陆和相区间的寒武系-奥陶系界线的精确划分和对比问题,增添了额外的依据。

Neogene integrative stratigraphy and timescale of China

The widely exposed Chinese Neogene terrestrial deposits provide the best circumstance for the establishment of an accurate chronostratigraphic system of Eurasia, and the rapidly evolved mammalian fossils contribute efficiently to the division and correlation of Asian Neogene strata. A uniform Neogene biostratigraphic framework for China has already been established,with seven mammalian ages named. With a developed stratigraphic basis for the geochronologic "ages", seven chronostratigraphic "stage" have been established for the Chinese Neogene terrestrial strata, namely the Miocene Xiejian, Shanwangian,Tunggurian, Bahean, and Baodean stages, and the Pliocene Gaozhuangian and Mazegouan stages. Based on a series of research achievements, refined biostratigraphic, paleomagnetic and isotopic methods were combined and applied to continuous sections,and a Chinese Neogene chronostratigraphic sequence with accurate geological ages was established and improved in recent years. The lower boundaries of most of the stages could be correlated with those of the marine stages in the International Chronostratigraphic Chart, except the Tunggurian Stage, which is correlated with the European land mammal age. The biostratigraphic markers of the Chinese Neogene stages are usually first appearance of a single taxon, some representing regional species replacement, others indicating intercontinental migration of certain taxa. Candidate stratotype sections have been proposed for all the Chinese Neogene stages according to the principle and rule of modern stratigraphy, and other Chinese Neogene strata in different regions are comprehensively correlated.

华北克拉通是划分我国中元古代地层序列的标准地区,查明华北地区各中元古代盆地的发育与演化机制、寻找长城系下部1. 80~1. 65Ga的沉积盖层、完善1. 4~1. 0Ga待建系标准剖面,是我国中元古代综合地层学研究亟待解答的三个主要问题。现有资料显示,华北北部的燕辽盆地缺失长城系底部地层,南部熊耳盆地各地层小区的蓟县纪-待建纪盆地演化过程差异较大。与之相比,北缘盆地的中元古界相对完整且较连续出露,是系统开展中元古代年代地层学和盆地动力学研究的理想对象。鉴于狼山地区的"中、新元古界"已被重新厘定为新元古界狼山群,中元古代的华北北缘盆地应以渣尔泰群、白云鄂博群、腮林忽洞群和化德群为代表。由于缺乏火山岩夹层年龄的有效约束,与这些地层单元的时代划分、区域对比和盆地类型有关的认识分歧,普遍发端于对碎屑锆石年代学数据的不同理解。因此,本文对渣尔泰群和白云鄂博群的部分层位进行了碎屑锆石年代学研究,并全面收集了北缘盆地碎屑锆石年代学研究的相关数据,参考新近提出的两种统计学分析方法,对渣尔泰群、白云鄂博群(含腮林忽洞群)和化德群的碎屑锆石年龄数据进行了真实沉积时代和盆地构造属性的统计分析。通过设置单点精度高、但样本库计算总量降低的对照组进行方法可信性的对照分析,结果显示样本库总量对统计结果的影响更大,因此利用相关方法解析前寒武纪哑地层的沉积时代和盆地属性,应当遵从"合理降低单点精度限制以谋求更大样本库"的原则。结合前人建立的中元古代沉积-岩浆事件序列,本文分析结果显示中元古代的北缘盆地是在长城纪造山后伸展盆地之上、叠加了蓟县-待建纪裂谷事件而成的多旋回复合盆地。通过北缘和燕辽地区沉积、岩浆事件的综合对比,提出华北克拉通北部的中元古代盆山耦合过程,可分为:由造山后向陆内伸展转换的构造反转期阶段(1. 82~1. 60Ga)、被动裂谷早期的陆内伸展阶段(1. 6~1. 4Ga)、裂谷作用阶段(1. 4~1. 3Ga)和成因机制不明的长期沉积间断阶段(1. 3~1. 0Ga)。

The non-marine Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary(KPgB)in Jiayin of Heilongjiang was first defined and reported in China by the authors research team in *** the continuous research on the KPgB and its related Late Cretaceous biota in Jiayin has been made by the authors in *** achievements of the research are mainly reflected as follows:(1)a new drilling borehole with 60 m in depth carried out in the Xiaoheyan of Jiayin in 2016,supplemented new palynological evidence for the KPgB definition in 2011;(2)some radiometric dating newly made on the strata related to the KPgB in Jiayin and its neighboring Russian area,provided the supplemental evidence for the KPgB definition in Jiayin;(3)many new fossils found by the authors,represented by the angiosperms Dalembia and Nelumbo,refresh understanding the Late Cretaceous environment of Jiayin;and(4)the TEM method is applied in the study of pollen exine ultrastructure of Pseudointegricorpus,Wodehouseia,and Aquilapollenites,promoting the late Maastrichtian ecological study in Jiayin,related to the KPgB.

Land submerged to carbonate platform by conodonts: paleoenvironment reconstruction of the western Gangdese in Tibet during Triassic

The western Gangdese in Tibet during Triassic was previously considered to be a part of the Gangdese Oldland (Zhao ZZ et al.,2001;Fig.1).If the Gangdese Oldland did exist,it means no prospect of petroleum exploration of the Triassic strata in western Gangdese ***,the recent biostratigraphic progresses don’t support the existence of the Gangdese *** paper aims to briefly introduce the new paleogeographic interpretation and the reason that the western Gangdese in the Triassic was marine instead of terrigenous on the basis of the recent conodont data.
