Fluvial reservoir characterization through channel belt dimension and petrophysical analysis

The dimensions and connectivity of fluvial reservoirs vary greatly, making it challenging to characterize them using conventional approaches. In this study integrated channel belt dimension analysis from seismic geomorphology and empirical equations, well log facies, and petrophysical analysis were performed to characterize the fluvial reservoirs. The study interval consists of fluvial deposits and is divided into three reservoir zones, which are defined by four key regional markers (B, D, K, O). In these intervals, six (6) fluvial facies have been identified. Based on the log facies proportions and their stacking relationships, it is interpreted that the reservoirs in zone 1 (B to D) were deposited in a proximal reach of a meandering system, zone 2 (D to K) in a marginal marine setting, and zone 3 (K) in a distal reach of a meandering system. The dimensions of fluvial channels and channel belts were determined using empirical equations. The results were compared with the observed dimensions of fluvial channels and channel belts from the seismic horizon and stratal slices of the same intervals. Zones 1 and 3 are characterized by broad meander belts (1000–4000 m) compared to zone 2 (600–1300 m). Petrophysical analysis showed zones 1 and 3 have the better petrophysical properties compared to zone 2. Though zone 3 has the most well-developed sand bodies, the best reservoir interval is zone 1 because of its higher porosity. Although channel belt dimensions have a significant influence on reservoir connectivity, they do not seem to have control on reservoir properties. The channel belt dimensions obtained from the empirical equations and interpreted from the seismic geomorphology analysis were found to be strikingly similar. Since three-dimensional seismic data is not available everywhere and seismic imaging quality decreases with depth, empirical equations can be used to analyze fluvial reservoir parameters and their connectivity at greater depths.

Validation of the albumin-bilirubin score for identifying decompensation risk in patients with compensated cirrhosis

BACKGROUND The albumin-bilirubin(ALBI)score is an index of liver function recently developed to assess prognosis in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).It can detect small changes in liver dysfunction and has been successfully applied to the prediction of survival in patients with non-malignant liver diseases of various etiologies.AIM To investigate the ALBI score for identifying decompensation risk at the 3-year follow-up in patients with compensated cirrhosis.METHODS One-hundred and twenty-three patients with compensated cirrhosis without HCC in King chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital diagnosed by imaging were retrospectively enrolled from January 2016 to December 2020.A total of 113 patients(91.9%)had Child A cirrhosis with a median model for end-stage liver disease(MELD)score of less than 9.Baseline clinical and laboratory variables and decompensation events were collected.The ALBI score was calculated and validated to classify decompensation risk into low-,middle-,and high-risk groups using three ALBI grade ranges(ALBI grade 1:≤-2.60;grade 2:>-2.60 but≤-1.39;grade 3:>-1.39).Decompensation events were defined as ascites development,variceal bleeding,or grade 3 or 4 hepatic encephalopathy.RESULTS Among 123 cirrhotic patients enrolled,13.8%(n=17)developed decompensating events at a median time of 25[95%confidence interval(CI):17-31]mo.Median baseline ALBI score in compensated cirrhosis was significantly lower than that of patients who developed decompensation events[-2.768(-2.956 to-2.453)vs-2.007(-2.533 to-1.537);P=0.01].Analysis of decompensation risk at 3 years showed that ALBI score had a time-dependent area under the curve(tAUC)of 0.86(95%CI:0.78-0.92),which was significantly better than that of ALBI-Fibrosis-4(ALBI-FIB4)score(tAUC=0.77),MELD score(tAUC=0.66),Child-Pugh score(tAUC=0.65),and FIB-4 score(tAUC=0.48)(P cumulative incidence of decompensation was 3.1%,22.6%,and 50%in the low-,middle-,and high-risk groups,respectively(P<0.001).The odds ratio for decompensation in pat

BACKGROUND Modified albumin-bilirubin(mALBI)grade has been established as a survival determinant in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients who receive locoregional and targeted therapies.AIM To investigate whether mALBI could predict survival in unresectable HCC(uHCC)patients who were treated with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab(AB).METHODS A single-center,retrospective cohort study enrolled uHCC patients who received AB treatment between September 2020 and April 2023 and were followed up until June 2023.An association between mALBI and patient survival was determined using Cox proportional hazards analysis.RESULTS Of the 83 patients,67 patients(80.7%)were male with the mean age of 60.6 years.Among them,22 patients(26.5%)were classified as Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer B,and 61 patients(73.5%)were classified as Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer C.Cirrhosis was present in 76 patients(91.6%),with 58 patients classified as Child-Turcotte-Pugh(CTP)A and 18 as CTP B.The median overall survival(OS)and progression-free survival were 13.0 mo[95%confidence interval(CI):5.2-20.8]and 9.0 mo(95%CI:5.0-13.0),respectively.The patients were divided into two groups based on mALBI grades:42 patients(50.6%)in the mALBI 1+2a group;and 41 patients(49.4%)in the mALBI 2b+3 group.During the median follow-up period of 7.0 mo,the mALBI 1+2a group exhibited significantly better survival compared to the mALBI 2b+3 group,with a median OS that was not reached vs 3.0 mo(95%CI:0.1-6.0,Pcularly those who have mildly impaired liver function.This highlig

A Glimpse into the Natural History of Leiolepis rubritaeniata Mertens,1961(Squamata:Leiolepididae)

During the months of April through July 2020 we studied aspects of the natural history of Leiolepis rubritaeniata,a species of butterfly lizard that occurs on the Khorat Plateau in Thailand and adjacent regions of Laos and Cambodia as well as in south-central Vietnam.We present data on population size and structure,as well as location,size,compass orientation,and structure of the lizard’s burrows.Also,we present climatic data(ambient air temperature and precipitation)at the study site for the duration of our field work as well as temperature data for the complete year 2021.Furthermore,we provide data on egg laying,incubation conditions and characteristics of the hatchlings.Finally,we present an easy to use and reliable non-invasive method for the long-term recognition of individual butterfly lizards based on their unique dorsal patterning.Butterfly lizards are utilized as a food source for the local human population.So far,there are no farming projects in Thailand involving this species and all individuals are collected from the wild populations.No data are available on the population dynamics of L.rubritaeniata but it can be assumed that habitat destruction due to land use change as well as its utilization for human consumption have negative effects on the long-term survival of the local populations of this lizard species.The baseline data presented here are essential for any meaningful conservation strategy for these lizards.

Clinical outcome of Yttrium-90 selective internal radiation therapy (Y-90 SIRT) in unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma: Experience from a tertiary care center

Background and aim:Whereas Yttrium-90 selective internal radiation therapy(Y-90 SIRT)was shown to improve local tumor control in non-Asian population,the efficacy of this therapy for Asian population in real-world setting remains poorly detailed.We aimed to determine outcomes and identify predictors of response in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients treated by Y-90 SIRT.Methods:We retrospectively enrolled 52 HCC patients receiving Y-90 SIRT at our tertiary center between 2014 and 2019.Overall survival(OS),progression free survival(PFS),and predictive factors were determined by KaplaneMeier method and Cox-proportional hazard analysis.Results:Of the 52 patients(81% male,mean age 64.9 years),71%and 29% were classified as Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage C and B HCC,respectively;63% had portal vein thrombosis,and 35% had objective tumor response defined by the modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors(mRE-CIST)criteria.OS and PFS were 11.0 and 2.4 months,respectively.Two patients were successfully down-staged and further underwent surgical resection.Multifocal lesion,alpha-fetoprotein(AFP)≥200 ng/mL,and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group(ECOG)score≥1 were significantly associated with poor sur-vival,with adjusted hazard ratio(95% confidence interval)of 7.7(2.0e29.8),5.4(2.0e14.7),and 3.1(1.0 e9.6),respectively(all in P<0.05).Conclusions:Y-90 SIRT is an effective treatment for the local tumor control of HCC without serious adverse events.Single lesion,AFP level and ECOG status were predictors of response.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide;nevertheless, currenttherapeutic options are limited or ineffective for many patients. Therefore, elucidation of molecular mechanisms inHCC biology could yield important insights for the intervention of novel therapies. Recently, various studies havereported dysregulation of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the initiation and progression of HCC, including H19;however, the biological function of H19 in HCC remains unclear. Here, we show that knockdown of H19 disruptedHCC cell growth, impaired the G1-to-S phase transition, and promoted apoptosis, while overexpression of H19yielded the opposite results. Screening for expression of cell cycle-related genes revealed a significant downregulationof CDK6 at both RNA and protein levels upon H19 suppression. Bioinformatic analysis of the H19 sequence and the3′ untranslated region (3′ UTR) of CDK6 transcripts showed several binding sites for microRNA-107 (miR-107), andthe dual luciferase reporter assay confirmed their direct interaction with miR-107. Consistently, blockage of miR-107activity alleviated the growth suppression phenotypes induced by H19 downregulation, suggesting that H19 serves asa molecular sponge for miR-107 to promote CDK6 expression and cell cycle progression. Together, this studydemonstrates a mechanistic function of H19 in driving the proliferation of HCC cells and suggests H19 suppressionas a novel approach for HCC treatment.

目的旨在编制柬埔寨注册护士护理程序应用能力问卷.方法以护理程序理论为理论基础,结合焦点小组讨论、文献回顾法和专家咨询编制初始问卷.于2022年1-2月采用便利抽样法,对柬埔寨5个区域的不同级别医院260名护士进行网络调查,验证问卷的信度和效度.结果问卷内容效度指数为1.00,Cron-bach's α系数为0.963,5个维度的Cronbach's α系数范围0.963~0.964,重测信度为0.769.探索性因子分析提取出5个公因子,为护理评估、诊断、计划、实施及评价,共24个条目,累计方差贡献率为70.08%.结论问卷的信度和效度较好,有助于护士评估自己的护理程序应用能力,并为护理管理者制订相关政策提供依据.

Background:Tiletamine/zolazepam is a dissociative anesthetic combination commonly used in small animals but information is limited in rats.The alpha-2 agonist,dexmedetomidine,has gained popularity in laboratory animal anesthesia.Tramadol is a weak opioid mu agonist.The aim of this study was to assess whether the tiletamine/zolazepam/dexmedetomidine(ZD)combination effectively provides a surgical anesthesia plane comparable to tiletamine/zolazepam/dexmedetomidine with tramadol(ZDT)in a minor procedure in rats.Methods:Rats were induced with ZD or ZDT.After the loss of paw withdrawal,a small incision was made on the rats’left thighs as a surgical stimulus.Rats were maintained under a surgical anesthesia plane by assessing the loss of the paw withdrawal reflex for 45 minutes,then atipamezole was administered.Monitored anesthesia parameters included:(a)physiological parameters-pulse rate(PR),respiratory rate(RR),tissue oxygen saturation(%SpO 2),and body temperature;(b)duration parameters-induction time,onset and duration of surgical anesthesia plane,onset of recovery,and recovery time.Results:PR was significantly lower at 10 minutes in ZD and 5 minutes in ZDT groups.No difference was observed for RR,%SpO 2,and body temperature.Likewise,there were no differences for duration parameters:induction time was less than 3 minutes;onset and duration of surgical anesthesia plane were approximately 5 and 45 minutes,respectively;onset of recovery(time to move)was 51 minutes;and recovery time was 52 minutes,respectively.Conclusion:These data suggest the ZD combination provides a surgical anesthesia plane comparable to ZDT in a rat incisional pain model.

Numerical investigation of circle defining curve for two-dimensional problem with general boundaries using the scaled boundary finite element method

The scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM)is applied to the static analysis of two dimensional elasticity problem,boundary value problems domain with the domain completely described by a circular defining curve. The scaled boundary finite element equations is formulated within a general framework integrating the influence of the distributed body force,general boundary conditions,and bounded and unbounded domain.This paper investigates the possibility of using exact geometry to form the exact description of the circular defining curve and the standard finite element shape function to approximate the defining curve.Three linear elasticity problems are presented to verify the proposed method with the analytical solution.Numerical examples show the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method,and the performance is found to be better than using standard linear element for the approximation defining curve on the scaled boundary method.
