Deliberation between PM1 and PM2.5 as air quality indicators based on comprehensive characterization of urban aerosols in Bangkok, Thailand

Urban ambient aerosols in the size range below 10 μm were measured and sampled for further evalua- tion （by Raman and Thermal-Optical analysis） of the collected material. The presented data shows that monitoring number and/or surface area concentrations besides the mass concentration provides valu- able information for a meaningful assessment of the actual ambient air quality. The aim of the study was to characterize the urban aerosols using various instruments, methods, and sampling conditions, and to determine whether a split of the PMzs size fraction at PM1 may deliver a more sensible indication of the actual air quality than the current standard of monitoring PMzs. We found substantial differences relating to this split. PM2.5 data frequently include particles from both mechanical and combustion processes, PM1 measurements can be used to better distinguish particles derived from these two sources. We measured number concentrations of PM1 with PM2.5-1 concurrently with particle mass concentration and found that the typical average particle diameter by mass in the urban aerosols investigated was in the range of 120 nm; this corresponded well with the particle number size distributions measured in real time. Raman spectral analysis and thermal-optical evaluation of the sampled material also suggested that it would be sensible to split the measurement of the PM2.5 fraction into PM1 and PM2.s-1 size fractions, especially for analysis of carbonaceous aerosol components using the DRI thermal/optical reflectance carbon analysis system

Hybrid nanofluids are remarkable functioning liquids that are intended to reduce the energy loss while maximizing the heat transmission.In the involvement of suction and nonlinear thermal radiation effects,this study attempted to explore the energy transmission features of the inclined magnetohydrodynamic(MHD)stagnation flow of CNTs-hybrid nanofluid across the nonlinear permeable stretching or shrinking sheet.This work also included some noteworthy features like chemical reactions,variable molecular diffusivity,quadratic convection,viscous dissipation,velocity slip and heat omission assessment.Employing appropriate similarity components,the model equations were modified to ODEs and computed by using the HAM technique.The impact of various relevant flow characteristics on movement,heat and concentration profiles was investigated and plotted on a graph.Considering various model factors,the significance of drag friction,heat and mass transfer rate were also computed in tabular and graphical form.This leads to the conclusion that such factors have a considerable impact on the dynamics of fluid as well as other engineering measurements of interest.Furthermore,viscous forces are dominated by increasing the values ofλ_(p),δ_(m)andδ_(q),and as a result,F(ξ)accelerates while the opposite trend is observed for M andφ.The drag friction is boosted by the augmentation M,λ_(p)andφ,but the rate of heat transfer declined.According to our findings,hybrid nanoliquid effects dominate that of ordinary nanofluid in terms of F(ξ),Θ(ξ)andφ(ξ)profiles.The HAM and the numerical technique(shooting method)were found to be in good agreement.

Rice Bacterial Infection Detection Using Ensemble Technique on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Images

Establishing a system for measuring plant health and bacterial infection is critical in agriculture.Previously,the farmers themselves,who observed them with their eyes and relied on their experience in analysis,which could have been incorrect.Plant inspection can determine which plants reﬂect the quantity of green light and near-infrared using infrared light,both visible and eye using a drone.The goal of this study was to create algorithms for assessing bacterial infections in rice using images from unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)with an ensemble classiﬁcation technique.Convolution neural networks in unmanned aerial vehi-cles image were used.To convey this interest,the rice’s health and bacterial infec-tion inside the photo were detected.The project entailed using pictures to identify bacterial illnesses in rice.The shape and distinct characteristics of each infection were observed.Rice symptoms were deﬁned using machine learning and image processing techniques.Two steps of a convolution neural network based on an image from a UAV were used in this study to determine whether this area will be affected by bacteria.The proposed algorithms can be utilized to classify the types of rice deceases with an accuracy rate of 89.84 percent.

We aimed to explore the prevalence of Fabry disease in Thai patients who were diagnosed with end-stage renal disease（ESRD） of an unknown origin.Venous blood samples were collected from ESRD patients for biochemical and molecular studies.Alpha-galactosidase A（a-GAL A） screening was performed from dried-blood spots using fluorometry.Molecular confirmation was performed using DNA sequencing of the GLA gene.A total of 142 male and female patients were included in this study.Ten patients（7.04%） exhibited a significant decrease in a-GAL A activity.There were no definitive pathogenic mutations observed in the molecular study.However,four patients revealed a novel nucleotide variant at c.l-10 C〉T,which was identified as a benign variant following screening in the normal population.In conclusion,the a-GAL A assay utilizing dried-blood spots revealed a significant false positive rate.There was no definitive Fabry disease confirmed in Thai patients diagnosed with ESRD of unknown etiology.

Chebyshev-Lagrange Multipliers Technique for Vibration Analysis of Functionally Graded Material Beams using Various Beam Theories

In this paper,a new technique for analysing functionally graded material(FGM)beams using the Chebyshev polynomials and Lagrange multipliers with various beam theories is presented.By utilizing the inner products and the Chebyshev polynomials’orthogonality properties incorporated with Lagrange multipliers,we can combine the governing equation and boundary conditions to yield the matrix equations with explicit weighting coefficients.Numerical examples are provided for vibration analysis of various beam theories and assumptions.Based on numerical evaluations,it is revealed that the proposed technique can efficiently achieve good agreement with those of the references.

Rate of anticoagulant use, and factors associated with not prescribing anticoagulant in older Thai adults with non-valvular atrial fibrillation: A multicenter registry

Objectives To investigate the rate of anticoagulant use,the reasons for not prescribing anticoagulant,and the factors associated with non-prescription of anticoagulant in older Thai adults with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.Methods A multicenter registry of patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation was conducted during 2014 to 2017 in Thailand.Demographic,medical history,antithrombotic medication,non-antithrombotic medication,and laboratory data were collected and analyzed.Data were compared between the older adult (≥ 65 years) and younger adult (< 65 years) groups.The reasons why anticoagulant was not prescribed were collected,and predictive factors were identified.Results A total of 3218 patients (1873 males) with an average age of 67.3 ± 11.3 years were included.Almost two-thirds (61.0%) of patients were in the older adult group.Anticoagulant was prescribed in 2422 patients (75.3%): 81.4% in the older adult group and 65.7% in the younger adult group.The three main reasons for not prescribing anticoagulant were already taking antiplatelets,patient refusal,and bleeding risk.These reasons were more common in older adults as compared to younger adults.Multivariate analysis revealed current use of antiplatelets to be the most important factor that predict the non-prescription of anticoagulant in older population.Conclusions The prevalence of anticoagulant prescription among older Thai adults with atrial fibrillation is 81.4%.Taking antiplatelet drugs was found to be the strongest reason that predicts the non-prescription of anticoagulant in this patient population.A guideline should be developed to optimize the use of anticoagulant and antiplatelet in older adults.

Health and immunisation services for the urban poor in selected countries of Asia

Background:Asia is a region that is rapidly urbanising.While overall urban health is above rural health standards,there are also pockets of deep health and social disadvantage within urban slum and peri-urban areas that represent increased public health risk.With a focus on vaccine preventable disease and immunisation coverage,this commentary describes and analyses strengths and weaknesses of existing urban health and immunisation strategy,with a view to recommending strategic directions for improving access to immunisation and related maternal and child health services in urban areas across the region.The themes discussed in this commentary are based on the findings of country case studies published by the United Nations Childrens Fund(UNICEF)on the topic of immunisation and related health services for the urban poor in Cambodia,Indonesia,Mongolia,Myanmar,the Philippines,and Vietnam.Main body:Although overall urban coverage is higher than rural coverage in selected countries of Asia,there are also wide disparities in coverage between socio economic groups within urban areas.Consistent with these coverage gaps,there is emerging evidence of outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases in urban areas.In response to this elevated public health risk,there have been some promising innovations in operational strategy in urban settings,although most of these initiatives are project related and externally funded.Critical issues for attention for urban health services access include reaching consensus on accountability for management and resourcing of the strategy,and inclusion of an urban poor approach within the planning and budgeting procedures of Ministries of Health and local governments.Advancement of local partnership and community engagement strategies to inform operational approaches for socially marginalised populations are also urgently required.Such developments will be reliant on development of municipal models of primary health care that have clear delegations of authority,adequate resources and institutional c

Enhanced recovery after surgery vs conventional care in emergency colorectal surgery

AIM:To investigate the feasibility and beneficial effects of enhanced recovery after surgery(ERAS) programme in the setting of emergency colorectal surgery.METHODS:Between January 2011 and October 2013,patients undergoing emergency resection for obstructing colorectal cancer at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital,Bangkok,Thailand using ERAS programme were compared with those using conventional care(1:2 ratio). They were matched for their age,gender,ColoRectal Physiological and Operative Severity Score for the enUmeration of Mortality and Morbidity score,and type of surgery. Primary outcomes were length of hospital stay and postoperative morbidity. Secondary outcomes included gastrointestinal recovery,30-d readmission,and time interval from surgery to chemotherapy.RESULTS:Twenty patients treated with ERAS programme were compared with 40 patients receiving conventional postoperative care.Median of hospital stay was shorter in the ERAS group:5.5 d(range:3-16)vs 7.5 d(range:5-25),P=0.009.The ERAS group had a non-significant reduction in the incidence of postoperative complication(25%vs 48%,P=0.094).No 30-d mortality and readmission occurred.Patients with ERAS programme had a shorter time to first flatus(1.6 d vs 2.8 d,P<0.001)and time to resumption of normal diet(3.5 d vs 5.5 d,P=0.002).Time interval between operation and initiation of adjuvant chemotherapy was significantly shorter in the ERAS group(37 d vs 49 d,P=0.009).CONCLUSION:The ERAS programme in the setting of emergency colorectal surgery was safe and feasible.It achieved significantly shorter hospitalisation and faster recovery of bowel function.

目的:探讨CD44v6与环氧合酶2(cyclooxygenase-2,COX-2)的表达与腮腺多形性腺瘤复发和恶化的相关性。方法:采用免疫组织化学法检测19例正常腮腺组织、25例初发多形性腺瘤、15例第一次复发多形性腺瘤、15例第二次复发多形性腺瘤和13例癌在多形性腺瘤组织中CD44v6与COX-2的表达,采用SPSS 15.0软件包分析CD44v6与COX-2与腮腺多形性腺瘤复发和恶化的相关性。结果:正常腮腺组织、初发多形性腺瘤、第一次复发多形性腺瘤、第二次复发多形性腺瘤与癌在多形性腺瘤中CD44v6阳性表达率分别为5.26%、44.00%、60.00%、93.37%和100.00%,COX-2阳性表达率分别为10.53%、40.00%、63.33%、93.37%和100.00%,各组CD44v6和COX-2阳性表达强度比较,差异有统计学意义(P0.05),2组COX-2表达强度比较无统计学差异(P>0.05),但COX-2阳性表达率差异显著(P0.05);第二次复发多形性腺瘤组织与癌在多形性腺瘤组织中,CD44v6和COX-2阳性表达率和表达强度无统计学差异(P>0.05)。结论:CD44v6和COX-2能够通过协同作用,共同促进多形性腺瘤发生、侵袭、复发和恶化。

Field investigation of antibiotic removal efficacies in different hospital wastewater treatment processes in Thailand

The removal efficacies of 19 antibiotics in different hospital wastewater treatment processes(WWTP)were investigated at various sizes of 60 hospitals across Thailand.The results showed slight differences in the total antibiotic removals(79e84%)among WWTP sizes.High antibiotics loading to all WWTP were amoxicillin,ciprofloxacin,tetracycline ampicillin,and norfloxacin,respectively.Amoxicillin and ampicillin were eliminated highly(90e99%)in every size of WWTP,while various efficacies showed for other antibiotics(0e93%).According to process comparison,activated sludge(CAS),oxidation ditch(OD),and sequencing batch reactor(SBR)systems showed similar removals of overall antibiotics(P>0.05).The attached growth systems such as submerged aerated fixed-film(SAFF)demonstrated relatively lower antibiotic removals.The natural processes such as aerated lagoon(AL),facultative pond(FP),and constructed wetland(CW)presented substantial biodegradation of some recalcitrant antibiotics such as fluoroquinolones,sulfamethoxazole,and trimethoprim.Post-chlorination provided additional elimination of some antibiotics such as amoxicillin and ampicillin.Finally,the top-five of antibiotics released into the water environment via discharged effluent are amoxicillin,tetracycline,ampicillin,ciprofloxacin,and imipenem,respectively,which mainly from the suspended growth systems.
