Metalloid pollution,including arsenic poisoning,is a serious environmental issue,plaguing plant productivity and quality of life ***,a carbon-rich material,has been known to alleviate the negative effects of environmental pollutants on ***,the specific role of biochar in mitigating arsenic stress in maize remains relatively ***,we elucidated the functions of biochar in improving maize growth under the elevated level of sodium arsenate(Na_(2)AsO_(4),AsV).Maize plants were grown in pot-soils amended with two doses of biochar(2.5%(B1)and 5.0%(B2)biochar Kg^(−1) of soil)for 5 days,followed by exposure to Na_(2)AsO_(4)(’B1+AsV’and’B2+AsV’)for 9 *** plants exposed to AsV only accumulated substantial amount of arsenic in both roots and leaves,triggering severe phytotoxic effects,including stunted growth,leaf-yellowing,chlorosis,reduced photosynthesis,and nutritional imbalance,when compared with control ***,biochar addition improved the phenotype and growth of AsV-stressed maize plants by reducing root-to-leaf AsV translocation(by 46.56 and 57.46%in‘B1+AsV’and‘B2+AsV’plants),improving gas-exchange attributes,and elevating chlorophylls and mineral levels beyond AsV-stressed *** pretreatment also substantially counteracted AsV-induced oxidative stress by lowering reactive oxygen species accumulation,lipoxygenase activity,malondialdehyde level,and electrolyte *** oxidative stress in‘B1+AsV’and‘B2+AsV’plants likely supported by a strong antioxidant system powered by biochar-mediated increased activities of superoxide dismutase(by 25.12 and 46.55%),catalase(51.78 and 82.82%),and glutathione S-transferase(61.48 and 153.83%),and improved flavonoid levels(41.48 and 75.37%,respectively).Furthermore,increased levels of soluble sugars and free amino acids also correlated with improved leaf relative water content,suggesting a better osmotic acclimatization mechanism in biochar-pretreated AsV-exposed plants.

This study was conducted to understand the cellular proliferative effect of Photobiomodulation Therapy(PBMT)on thawed dental pulp stem cells(DPSCs)stored for 2 *** this purpose,cells were exposed to PBMT for short period of time to evaluate the most appropriate PBMT parameter for stimulating cellular proliferation that can be used for future tissue engineering *** characterized DPSCs were seperated into three groups according to the laser energy densities(5 J/cm^(2) or 7 J/cm^(2))applied and a group was served as control in which cells did not receive any laser *** cells in laser-irradiated groups were further divided into two subgroups according to the period of application(24 h and 0 h)and exposed to Gallium-Aluminum-Arsenide diode laser *** viability and the proliferation rate of the cells were analyzed with the 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5 diphenyl tetrazolium bromide(MTT)assay,any PBMT related cellular cytotoxicity were determined by performing a lactate dehydrogenase assay(LDH)and statistical analysis of data were *** percentage of proliferation seemed to increase upon laser therapy in both different doses of irradiation(5 J/cm^(2) and 7 J/cm^(2)).DPSCs showed significantly higher proliferation rate upon 7 J/cm^(2) irradiation in both 0 h and 24 h when compared to control ***,DPSCs irradiated with 5 J/cm^(2) dose induced relatively lower proliferation rate when compared to 7 J/cm^(2) dose of *** to the LDH data,PBMT exposure did not show any significant cytotoxicity at both energy densities in all different time *** at 7 J/cm^(2) should be an effective parameter to stimulate proliferation of long-term cryopreserved DPSCs in a short term time *** therapy may be an upcoming tool for future tissue enngineering and regenerative dentistry applications.

Objective:Barriers to healthcare in Ghana are *** people,including patients and providers,face them at different *** address these barriers,there is a need to explore the role of an intercultural healthcare *** paper explores and provides the first evidence on ways through which an intercultural healthcare system can reduce the sociocultural and economic barriers to healthcare in ***:Focus group discussions with 35 participants comprising 17 healthcare users,11 formal healthcare providers and 7 alternative healthcare providers were conducted to gather *** analyses were performed on the transcribed data and presented based on a posteriori inductive reduction ***:Findings reveal that an intercultural healthcare system in Ghana can help reduce barriers to healthcare,especially cultural,social and economic barriers,by fostering an enhanced relationship between culture and healthcare,promoting affordable healthcare and promoting effective communication between healthcare providers and *** institutional support,lack of strong political will and commitment,lack of training to meet standards of practice,poor registration and regulatory measures,and lack of universal acceptance inhibit implementation of an intercultural healthcare system in ***:The support for intercultural healthcare system and the agreement on its perceived ability to reduce social,cultural and economic healthcare barriers for service users offer an opportunity for policymakers to demonstrate a stronger political will and improved commitment for effective education and training,enforcement of regulatory measures,inclusion of intercultural healthcare in medical school curricula across the country,and community engagement.

Forest structure changes continuously by natural and anthropogenic effects. Because the level of goods and services provided by forest ecosystems are related to this structure, some attributes have to be controlled while they are being managed. In this paper we describe the long-term temporal changes in land area and landscape metrics related to different land uses of a managed forest in Turkey. The study was carried out for the Daday Forest Planning Unit located in the west Black Sea region of northern Turkey. The total area is 16,813 ha and besides wood production, it is managed for erosion control, public health, aesthetics, and recreation. Stand type maps that were constructed in 1970,1989, 1999, and 2010 were used in this analysis. Transition matrixes that illustrate area changes among cover types and temporal changes on some landscape metrics were obtained using Geographic Information Systems. Stands were separated into small patches, and thus the number of patches increased nearly two-fold between 1970 and 2010. The total forest edge increased and through the associated fragmentation, the amount of core forest area decreased at the landscape scale. Landscape metrics were applied to digitized versions of historical maps to assess how forest area changed. Human use of the land has changed, forest management practices have evolved, and these along with natural forest growth have contributed to interesting changes in landscape character.

A Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS)computational fluid dynamics(CFD)model is built to investigate the hydrodynamic response of a circular ice floe under the influence of a passing ship in calm *** ship,mirroring the KRISO Container Ship’s hull design,progresses near an ice floe whose diameter is 30%of the ship’s length and its thickness is 3 *** ship advances at a constant speed,which is handled by using the overset mesh *** study focuses on the ice floe’s motions and the hydrodynamic forces induced by three speeds and three transverse distances of the passing *** reveal that ship-generated wakes notably influence the ice floe’s motions,with a greater influence on sway than ***,the ship’s speed and proximity distinctly affect the ice floe’s motions.

This study presents results from a vegetation-induced flow experimental study which investigates 3-D turbulence structure profiles,including Reynolds stress,turbulence intensity and bursting analysis of open channel *** vegetation densities have been built between the adjacent vegetations,and the flow measurements are taken using acoustic Doppler velocimeter(ADV)at the locations within and downstream of the vegetation *** different tests are conducted,where the first test has compact vegetations,while the second and the third tests have open spaces created by one and two empty vegetation slots within the vegetated *** reveals that over 10%of eddies size is generated within the vegetated zone of compact vegetations as compared with the fewer *** turbulence structures variation is also observed at the points in the non-vegetated *** findings from burst-cycle analysis show that the sweep and outward interaction events are dominant,where they further increase away from the *** effect of vegetation on the turbulent burst cycle is mostly obvious up to approximately two-third of vegetation height where this phenomenon is also observed for most other turbulent structure.

Metabolic syndrome(MS)is associated with a sedentary and stressful lifestyle and affects underactive people *** is considered to be a low-impact mind-body stress-relieving exercise,and researchers are increasing their focus on the benefits of yoga for managing metabolic *** is also important for physicians and health care professionals to understand the therapeutic efficacy of yoga intervention,in terms of its type,duration and frequency on various MS risk *** present review summarizes the current scientific understanding of the effects of yoga on MS risk factors such as glucose homeostasis markers,lipid profile,adipocytokines and cardiovascular risk factors,and discusses the possible mechanisms of ***,Pub Med,Scopus and Cochrane Library were searched from their inception up to December 2019,using the keywords“metabolic syndrome,”“diabetes,”“cardiovascular diseases,”“obesity”and“yoga.”The literature summarized in this review have shown mixed effects of yoga on MS risk factors and do not provide robust evidence for its *** rigorous research and well-designed trials that have a higher standard of methodology and evaluate yoga's long-term impacts on MS are *** yoga's biochemical and molecular mechanisms of action on various metabolic pathways is also needed.

Analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties of hydroalcoholic extracts of Malva sylvestris, Carum carvi or Medicago sativa, and their combination in a rat model

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of the hydroalcoholic extracts of Malva sylvestris flowers or Carum carvi and Medicago sativa seeds, alone and in combination, which have been used in traditional Iranian ***: Male Wistar rats were divided into 6 treatment groups: distilled water, sodium salicylate(SS),M. sylvestris extract(600 mg/kg), C. carvi extract(600 mg/kg), M. sativa extract(300 mg/kg) and combined extract(including 300 mg/kg M. sylvestris and C. carvi extracts, and 150 mg/kg M. sativa extract). The formalin pain model was used to evaluate the antinociceptive effects of the treatments. For anti-inflammatory effect, acute(one hour after injection) and chronic(during a week after injection)paw inflammation was measured after subcutaneous injection of 2.5% formalin in the ***, tissue samples from all groups were prepared for histopathological ***: The combined extract significantly inhibited the nociception in the acute phase of the formalin test(P < 0.001). In the chronic phase, all the extracts and SS had significant analgesic effect(P < 0.001).Analgesic activity of the combined extract was significantly stronger than SS(P < 0.01). In the acute inflammation model, M. sylvestris, C. carvi and the combined drug had significant inhibitory effects against paw edema(P < 0.05). All extracts, individually and in combination, significantly alleviated chronic paw inflammation(P < 0.01). The combined extract had much more anti-inflammatory activity than SS(P < 0.05). Histopathological results indicated improvement and reduction of inflammatory factors in the treatment ***: M. sylvestris, C. carvi and M. sativa have analgesic and anti-inflammatory ***, each of these extracts or a mixture of them might be a valuable alternative drug to control pain and inflammation.
