Effect of eccentric and inclined loading on the bearing capacity of strip footing placed on rock mass

This paper deals with the bearing capacity determination of strip footing on a rock mass in hilly area by considering the influence of inclined and eccentric loading. Applying the generalized HoekBrown failure criterion, the failure behavior of the rock mass is modeled with the help of the power cone programming in the lower bound finite element limit analysis framework. Using bearing capacity factor(Ns), the change in bearing capacity of the strip footing due to the occurrence of eccentrically inclined loading is presented. The variations of the magnitude of Ns are obtained by examining the effects of the Hoek-Brown rock mass strength parameters(uniaxial compressive strength(sci), disturbance factor(D), rock parameter(mi), and Geological Strength Index(GSI)) in the presence of different magnitudes of eccentricity(e) and inclination angle(λ) with respect to the vertical plane, and presented as design charts. Both the inclined loading modes, i.e., inclination towards the center of strip footing(+λ) and inclination away from the center of strip footing(-λ), are adopted to perform the investigation. In addition, the correlation between the input parameters and the corresponding output is developed by utilizing the artificial neural network(ANN). Additionally, from sensitivity analysis, it is observed that inclination angle(λ) is the most sensitive parameter. For practicing engineers, the obtained design equation and design charts can be beneficial to understand the bearing capacity variation in the existence of eccentrically inclined loading in mountain areas.

In the background of f(R,L_(m))gravity,this work investigates three distinct dark matter halo profiles to test the possibility of generalised wormhole geometry within the galactic halo *** current study aims to accomplish these goals by examining various dark matter profiles including universal rotation curves(URC),Navarro-Frenk-White(NFW)model-Ⅰ,and NFW model-Ⅱinside two distinct f(R,L_(m))gravity *** to the f(R,L_(m))=R/2+L^(a)_(m)model,the dark matter(DM)halo density profiles produce suitable shape functions that meet all the necessary requirements for exhibiting the wormhole geometries with appropriate choice of free *** addition,to examine DM profiles under the f(R,L_(m))=R/2+(1+λR)L_(m) model,we consider a specific shape ***,we observed that the derived solution from both two models violates the null energy constraints,confirming that the DM supports wormholes to maintain in the galactic halo.

The oxalate co-precipitation method was used to synthesize the La3+substituted Ni-Cu-Zn(La-NCZ)nanoferrites having chemical composition Ni_(0.7)Cu_(0.1)Zn_(0.2)LaxFe_(2-x)O_(4)(x=0.015,0.025 and 0.035).DC resistivity study of nanoferrites shows both the conducting and semiconducting *** room temperature DC electrical resistivity of Ni-Cu-Zn(NCZ)nanoferrites decreases,whereas Curie temperature increases with increasing La^(3+)*** the temperature range of 30-170℃nanoferrites show p-type semiconducting behavior except x=0.015;thereafter,they show n-type *** frequency dispersive initial permeability(μi)associated with its real and imaginary(μ’andμ")parts are attributed to the domain wall movement and magnetic spin ***μi,u’andμ"of La-NCZ nanoferrites are higher than those of pure NCZ *** constant(ε’),dielectric loss(ε")and AC resistivity(ρAC)of La-NCZ nanoferrites show normal dielectric *** is found thatε’of NCZ nanoferrites decreases with the increasing content of La3+*** bandgap energy of La-NCZ nanoferrites is achieved in the range 1.36-1.70 eV confirming the semiconducting nature of materials.

Effect of undercut on the lower bound stability of vertical rock escarpment using finite element and power cone programming

In the present study,the stability of a vertical rock escarpment is determined by considering the influence of *** bound finite element limit analysis in association with Power Cone Programming(PCP)is applied to incorporate the failure of rock mass with the help of the Generalized Hoek-Brown yield *** change in stability due to the presence of undercut is expressed in terms of a non-dimensional stability number(σci/γH).The variations of the magnitude ofσci/γH are presented as design charts by considering the different magnitudes of undercut offset(H/vu and wu/vu)from the vertical edge and different magnitudes of Hoek-Brown rock mass strength parameters(Geological Strength Index(GSI),rock parameter(mi),Disturbance factor(D)).The obtained results indicate that undercut can cause a severe stability problem in rock mass having poor *** the help of regression analysis of the computed results,a simplified design equation is proposed for obtainingσci/γ*** performing sensitivity analysis for an undisturbed vertical rock escarpment,we have found that the undercut height ratio(H/vu)is the most sensitive parameter followed by GSI,undercut shape ratio(wu/vu),and *** developed design equation as well as design charts can be useful for practicing engineers to determine the stability of the vertical rock escarpment in the presence of *** patterns are also presented to understand type of failure and extent of plastic state during collapse.

THRFuzzy:Tangential holoentropy-enabled rough fuzzy classifier to classification of evolving data streams

The rapid developments in the fields of telecommunication, sensor data, financial applications, analyzing of data streams, and so on, increase the rate of data arrival, among which the data mining technique is considered a vital process. The data analysis process consists of different tasks, among which the data stream classification approaches face more challenges than the other commonly used techniques. Even though the classification is a continuous process, it requires a design that can adapt the classification model so as to adjust the concept change or the boundary change between the classes. Hence, we design a novel fuzzy classifier known as THRFuzzy to classify new incoming data streams. Rough set theory along with tangential holoentropy function helps in the designing the dynamic classification model. The classification approach uses kernel fuzzy c-means(FCM) clustering for the generation of the rules and tangential holoentropy function to update the membership function. The performance of the proposed THRFuzzy method is verified using three datasets, namely skin segmentation, localization, and breast cancer datasets, and the evaluated metrics, accuracy and time, comparing its performance with HRFuzzy and adaptive k-NN classifiers. The experimental results conclude that THRFuzzy classifier shows better classification results providing a maximum accuracy consuming a minimal time than the existing classifiers.

Parametric study of single confined fragment launch explosive device

In this article, parametric study of single confined fragment launch device was carried out. The configuration proposed was further studied to derive the empirical relationship for effect of fragment size,charge size, confinement thickness on fragment velocity. The simulations were carried out using ANSYSAUTODYNE explicit solver. Fragment velocities were estimated as a function of different parametric combinations of explosive quantities, charge length to diameter ratio, fragment height to diameter ratio,confinement thickness, fragment material and fragment mass. The data was further converted to charge to metal ratio under fragment and confinement. It was observed that, increase in confinement thickness,charge quantity and decrease in fragment height increases the fragment velocity. It is also noted that,charge to metal mass ratio under fragment significantly affects the fragment velocity. At the end, an empirical relationship for fragment velocity interms of all these parameters was established. Using these relations, two velocities 1831.92 m/s and 2523.9 m/s required for NATO STANAG 4496 IM test were estimated. The design parameters for these velocities are presented. Also, the results estimated using the empirical relationship has been compared with published experimental data. Error in the predicted velocities is within the acceptable range. The empirical relationship proposed will be useful for finalization of design of the fragment launch device.

Disturbance Observer Based Speed Control of PMSM Using Fractional Order PI Controller

In this paper, fractional order PI(FOPI) control is developed for speed control of permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). Designing the parameters for FOPI controller is a challenging task, especially for nonlinear systems like *** three PI controllers in the conventional vector controlled speed drive are replaced by FOPI controllers. Design of these FOPI controllers is based on the locally linearized model of PMSM around an operating point. This operating point changes with the load torque. The novelty of the work reported here is in use of Non Linear Disturbance Observer(NLDO) to estimate load torque to obtain this new operating point. All three FOPI controllers are then designed adaptively using this new operating point. The scheme is tested on simulation using MATLAB/SIMULINK and results are presented.

Prophylactic effects of asiaticoside-based standardized extract of Centella asiatica(L.) Urban leaves on experimental migraine: Involvement of 5HT1A/1B receptors

The present study aimed at evaluation of prophylactic efficacy and possible mechanisms of asiaticoside(AS) based standardized extract of Centella asiatica(L.) Urban leaves(INDCA) in animal models of migraine. The effects of oral and intranasal(i.n.) pretreatment of INDCA(acute and 7-days subacute) were evaluated against nitroglycerine(NTG, 10 mg·kg-1, i.p.) and bradykinin(BK, 10 μg, intra-arterial) induced hyperalgesia in rats. Tail flick latencies(from 0 to 240 min) post-NTG treatment and the number of vocalizations post-BK treatment were recorded as a measure of hyperalgesia. Separate groups of rats for negative(Normal) and positive(sumatriptan, 42 mg·kg-1, s.c.) controls were included. The interaction of INDCA with selective 5-HT1 A, 5-HT1 B, and 5-HT1 D receptor antagonists(NAN-190, Isamoltane hemifumarate, and BRL-15572 respectively) against NTG-induced hyperalgesia was also evaluated. Acute and sub-acute pre-treatment of INDCA [10 and 30 mg·kg-1(oral) and 100 μg/rat(i.n.) showed significant anti-nociception activity, and reversal of the NTG-induced hyperalgesia and brain 5-HT concentration decline. Oral pre-treatment with INDCA(30 mg·kg-1, 7 d) showed significant reduction in the number of vocalization. The anti-nociceptive effects of INDCA were blocked by 5-HT1 A and 5-HT1 B but not 5-HT1 D receptor antagonists. In conclusion, INDCA demonstrated promising anti-nociceptive effects in animal models of migraine, probably through 5-HT1A/1B medicated action.

Variability of the Southwest Monsoon since the Last 25 000 Years and Their Possible Causes: Role of Northern Hemisphere versus Tibetan Plateau

High-precision, clay sediment oxygen and hydrogen isotopes analyses of Pleistocene-Holocene deep-sea sediments from the Bay of Bengal （BOB） are presented for the first time. Our study shows that the major source of sediments in the study area, since the last-25 000 years, is likely to be the Higher Himalayan crystalline rocks. Further, the study of these stable isotope data displays the variation of southwest monsoon （SWM） in the BOB region since the last-25 000 years and the cause behind the variation has been interpreted. The δ 18 O values of the clay sediments are compared with δ 18 O values of the BOB seawater. This comparison shows that the clay sediment δ 18 O values of the studied sediment cores temporally vary along with the changes in strength of the SWM. Based on the changes in the clay sediment δ 18 O values of the studied sediment, we evaluate the variance in the SWM since the last 25 000 years in the BOB. Our results are consistent with previous work in the region based on other proxies. To evaluate the factors influencing the intensity of the SWM since the last glacial maxima, we conducted comparative analyses of the studied clay sediment δ 18 O values with δ 18 O values in the Greenland ice cores （GISP2） and Tibetan ice cores （Guliya）. The results from this comparative study show that large-scale changes in the intensity of the SWM since 25 000 years are affected by the climate oscillations of the Northern Hemisphere, but rapid and abrupt fluctuations in the SWM seem to be controlled by the amount of snow cover in the Tibetan Plateau.
