Pervious concrete(PC)is at risk of clogging due to the continuous blockage of sand into it during its service *** study aims to evaluate and predict such clogging behavior of PC using hybrid machine learning *** on the 84 groups of the dataset developed in the earlier study,the clogging behavior of the PC was determined by the algorithm combing the SVM(support vector machines)and particle swarm optimization(PSO)*** PSO algorithm was employed to adjust the hyperparameters of the SVM and verify the performance using 10-fold *** predicting results of the developed model were assessed by the coefficient of determination(R)and root mean square error(RMSE).The importance of the influential variables on the clogging behavior of PC was evaluated as *** results showed that the PSO algorithm can effectively adjust the hyperparameters of the SVM model and can be used to construct the predictive model for the clogging behavior of the *** combined algorithm has the advantage of higher reliability and validity than the random hyperparameters *** the verification process,the developed model was able to obtain values of 0.9469 and 1.8148 for the R and RMSE,showing that the developed machine learning model can accurately be used to evaluate and predict the clogging behavior of the PC,guiding the mix-design of PC from the perspective of *** size of the clogging sand is the most important parameter and the thickness of the sample is the least significant factor affecting the clogging *** proportions of the smallest aggregate size and largest aggregate size are the two most important design parameters of concrete with the consideration of the relatively higher importance scores,showing these two aggregates should be given special attention in future PC design for anti-clogging purposes.

Passive radiation cooling（PRC）, as the most promising technology to meet future cooling needs, has attracted great interest. However, there are still huge challenges in manufacturing high-efficiency and low-cost radiant coolers suitable for all-day use. Here, we report a secondary micro-nano shell-hollow structure based on blending method, inspired by the African white beetle Goliathus goliatus. Due to the difference in reflectance between the shell and the internal air, compared with the homogeneous particles, the scattered light has a changed optical path at the interface of the core（air） and the shell（SiO2）, and most of the light escapes from the particles, showing strong total internal reflection. The design ingeniously deposits the nano-sized shell-hollow structure on the surface of the micron-sized shell-hollow structure, achieving high solar reflectance（95 %）and excellent long-wave infrared emissivity（94 %）. Sub-ambient cooling of 7.8 and 4.7°C can be achieved at night and daytime,respectively. Silica microspheres with shell and hollow structure can be prepared by soft template method, which is mature, reliable, simple and *** work provides new ideas for the design and manufacture of highperformance Passive all-day radiative cooling（PARC）.

The straight chain n-Mkanes and their mixture, which can be used as phase change materials （PCM） for ther- mal energy storage, have attracted much attention in recent years. We employ the molecular dynamics （MD） simulation to investigate their thermophysical properties, including self diffusion and melting of n-octadecane with crystal and amorphous structures. Our results show that, although the initial and melted structures of n-octadecane with crystal and amorphous are different, the melting behaviors of n-octadeeane judged by the self diffusion behavior are consistent. The MD simulation indicates that both the crystal and amorphous structures are effective for the property investigation of n-octadecane and the simulated conclusion can be used as reference for modeling the alkanes-based PCM system.

Cemented tailings backfill(CTB) is made by mixing cement, tailings and water together, thus cement hydration and water seepage flow are the two crucial factors affecting the quality of CTB. Cement hydration process can release significant amount of heat to raise the temperature of CTB and in turn increase the rate of cement hydration. Meanwhile, the progress of cement hydration consumes water and produces hydration products to change the pore structures within CTB, which further influences the hydraulic behavior of CTB. In order to understand the hydraulic behavior of CTB, a numerical model was developed by coupling the hydraulic,thermal and hydration equations. This model was then implemented into COMSOL Multiphysics to simulate the evolutions of temperature and water seepage flow within CTB versus curing time. The predicted outcomes were compared with correspondent experimental results, proving the validity and availability of this model. By taking advantage of the validated model, effects of various initial CTB and curing temperatures, cement content, and CTB's geometric shapes on the hydraulic behavior of CTB were demonstrated numerically. The presented conclusions can contribute to preparing more environmentally friendly CTB structures.

We project a compact T-branch beam splitter with a micron scale using a two-dimensional （2D） photonic crystal （PC）. For TE polarization, one light beam can be split into two sub-beams along opposite directions. The propagating directions of the two splitting beams remain unchanged when the incident angle varies in a certain range. Coupled-mode theory is used to analyze the truncating interface structure in order to investigate the energy loss of the splitter. Simulation results and theoretical analysis show that choosing an appropriate location of the truncating interface （PC-air interface） is very important for obtaining high efficiency due to the effect of defect modes. The most advantage of this kind of beam splitter is being fabricated and integrated easily.

The exchange interaction between the electrons in the different magnetic ions and the spin-fluctuation of the magnetic ions exist in the paramagnetic media NdF3. The exchange interaction between the electrons in the different magnetic ions may be equivalent to an effective field Hin that is in direct proportion to the magnetization M. The spin-fluctuation of the magnetic ions leads the coefficient of the effective field to vary with temperature. The effective field is given as Hin = -（0.75 ＋ 0.22T） × 10^-5M in NdF3. When the secondary crystal field effect is taken into account, the magnetic susceptibility and Verdet constant are calculated for NdF3 by means of the effective field Hin and the applied field He. The calculated results are in agreement with the measured ones.

Cemented paste backfill(CPB),a mixture of tailings,binder,and water,is widely and extensively used for the recovery of mineral resources,the prevention of ground subsidence,and the management of mine *** installed,the CPB is subjected to complex environmental conditions such as water content,temperature,and power,which have a significant impact on its ***,this study conducts a series of laboratory programs,including investigation of moisture,temperature,stress–strain relation,and microstructure to show the effect of curing humidity on the CPB *** results obtained indicate that ambient humidity can have a dramatic effect on CPB in terms of its macro performance of internal relative humidity,temperature and strength,as well as the micro *** examples of these effects on CPB include an increase in curing humidity,which favors binder hydration,and then an increase in hydration materials,temperature and peak stress in the *** results obtained will lead to a better understanding of CPB’s responses to various environmental conditions.
