Conjugation expansion strategy enables highly stable all-polymer solar cells

The stability issue is one of the key factors hindering the commercial application of organic solar ***-polymer organic solar cell is one of the effective ways to solve the stability *** this work,we designed and synthesized two polymer donor materials PBDT and PDTBDT with different conjugation ranges,and demonstrated for the first time that extending the conjugation range of donor materials in all polymer solar cells can significantly improve device efficiency and *** experimental results of materials and devices show that PDTBDT with a larger conjugation range has stronger crystallinity and a more planar structure,which endows the active layer in its corresponding device with higher exciton dissociation probability,lower carrier recombination probability,more balanced charge transport properties and more favorable film *** a result,the PDTBDT:PYF-T-o devices display an outstanding PCE of 13.38%,which is much higher than PBDT with smaller conjugation range based ***,the PDTBDT:PYF-T-o device retains 0.86 of the initial PCE after over 500 h in the air atmosphere,exhibiting significantly improved *** improved stability is attributed to the enhanced moisture and air tolerance of active layer film thanks to the strong crystallinity of the donor *** results demonstrate that the conjugation expansion strategy is one of the effective ways to obtain efficient and stable all-polymer organic solar cells.

Research on radon detecting technique for locating inaccessible underground heatings

The identification of the exact location of the heatings that occur in often inaccessible locations several hundred meters deep in goaf areas is a key to allowing effective control measures to be taken. Radon technique provides the only solution for remotely locating underground sponcom from surface. The results of Chaili mine indicated that a total area of 66 000 m2 has been surveyed and exact locations of spontaneous combustion have been detected. This has enabled the sueeessful implementation of various control measures against spontaneous combustion.

A General Self-Sacrifice Template Strategy to 3D Heteroatom-Doped Macroporous Carbon for High-Performance Potassium-Ion Hybrid Capacitors

Potassium-ion hybrid capacitors(PIHCs)tactfully combining capacitor-type cathode with battery-type anode have recently attracted increasing attentions due to their advantages of decent energy density,high power density,and low cost;the mismatches of capacity and kinetics between capacitor-type cathode and battery-type anode in PIHCs yet hinder their overall performance ***,based on prediction of density functional theory calculations,we find Se/N co-doped porous carbon is a promising candidate for K+storage and thus develop a simple and universal self-sacrifice template method to fabricate Se and N co-doped three-dimensional(3D)macroporous carbon(Se/N-3DMpC),which features favorable properties of connective hier-archical pores,expanded interlayer structure,and rich activity site for boosting pseudocapacitive activity and kinetics toward K^(+)storage anode and enhancing capacitance performance for the reversible anion adsorption/desorption *** expected,the as-assembled PIHCs full cell with a working voltage as high as 4.0 V delivers a high energy density of 186 Wh kg^(−1) and a power output of 8100 W kg^(−1) as well as excellent long service *** proof-of-concept PIHCs with excellent performance open a new avenue for the development and application of high-performance hybrid capacitors.

Cropping Pattern Modifications Change Water Resource Demands in the Beijing Metropolitan Area

Adequate freshwater supply has become an issue of increasing local and international concern. Reducing water use in agriculture, which is the largest water using sector of the economy, is both important and urgent. The aim of this paper was to quantify how recent cropping pattern changes have influenced water resources in the great Beijing metropolitan area, an expanding megacity which also includes rural counties. Crop production affects blue water use through water consumption and water pollution, the latter assessed here using a critical dilution method. From 1990 to 2010, the total blue water used by crop production declined due to a decrease in overall cropped area, initially in response to local government policies favouring urban development. However, the average blue water use per hectare increased from 2 112 m3 ha-~ yr-~ in 1990 to 2 764 m3 ha-1 yr-1 in 2003, largely as the result of a transition from cereal to vegetable crops, and in particular an increase in intensively managed plastic and glass covered vegetable production systems. Current policies aim to conserve agricultural land, in the interests of food security, and to stimulate cereal production systems with higher ecosystem services provision. As such, in 2010 the average blue water use was 2 425 m3 ha-~ yr-l. These results demonstrate that cropping pattern changes in peri-urban regions and rural communities surrounding the Beijing metropolitan area can have a substantial impact on water resources. They also highlight the tradeoffs between food production and urban and industrial water supply and the need for integrated policy development.

Influence of October Eurasian Snow on Winter Temperature over Northeast China

This paper addresses the interannual variation of winter air temperature over Northeast China and its connection to preceding Eurasian snow cover. The results show that there is a significant negative correlation between October Eurasian snow cover and following-winter air temperature over Northeast China. The snow cover located in eastern Siberia and to the northeast of Lake Baikal plays an important role in the winter air temperature anomaly. More （less） eastern Siberia snow in October can cause an atmospheric circulation anomaly pattern in which the atmospheric pressure is higher （lower） than normal in the polar region and lower （higher） in the northern mid-high latitudes. Due to the persistence of the eastern Siberia snow from October to the following winter, the winter atmospheric anomaly is favorable （unfavorable） to the widespread movement of cold air masses from the polar region toward the northern mid-high latitudes and, hence, lower （higher） temperature over Northeast China. Simultaneously, when the October snow cover is more （less）, the SST in the northwestern Pacific is continuously lower （higher） as a whole; then, the Aleutian low and the East Asia trough are reinforced （weakened）, favoring the lower （higher） temperature over Northeast China.

The role of Al_(2)Y in grain refinement in Mg-Al-Y alloy system

A series of Mge10(AlþY)alloys with various weight ratios of Al to Y were cast to investigate the role of Al_(2)Y in grain refinement in MgeAleY ternary *** analysis combined with microstructural and EDX analysis was used to determine the phase transformation temperatures during solidification *** results show that when the Al content is below 4 wt%,a peritectic reaction,LþAl_(2)Y/a-Mg,occurs after the intermetallic Al_(2)Y forms directly from the melt as a pro-peritectic *** the Al content is above 4 wt%,an eutectic reaction occurs at a lower *** presence of the pro-peritectic phase can lead to nucleation of a-Mg directly through a peritectic reaction although grain refining efficiency is also closely related to the active particle *** the case where solidification does not involve a peritectic reaction,the growth restriction factor,quantitatively the Q-value,governs the grain refining *** Q-value corresponds to finer grains.

Energy efficient and delay aware ternary-state transceivers for aerial base stations

In recent times, Aerial Base Stations(AeBSs) are being investigated to provide wireless coverage to terrestrial radio terminals. There are many advantages of using aerial platforms to provide wireless coverage, including larger coverage in remote areas and better line-of-sight conditions, etc. Energy is a scarce resource for the AeBSs, hence the wise management of energy is quite beneficial for the aerial network. In this context, we study the means of reducing the total energy consumption by designing and implementing an energy efficient AeBSs as presented in this paper. Implementing the sleep mode in the Base Stations (BSs) has been proven to be a very good approach for improving the energy efficiency and we propose a novel strategy for further improving energy efficiency by considering ternary state transceivers for AeBSs. Using the three state model, we propose a Markov Decision Process (MDP) based algorithm, which intelligently switches among three states of the transceivers based on the offered traffic meanwhile maintaining a prescribed minimum channel rate per user. We define a reward function for the MDP, which helps us to get an optimal policy for selecting a particular mode for the transceivers of the AeBS. Considering an AeBS with transceivers whose states are changeable, we perform simulations to analyse the performance of the algorithm. Our results show that, compared with the always active model, around 40% gain in the energy efficiency is achieved by using our proposed MDP algorithm together with the three-state transceivers model. We also show the energy-delay tradeoff in order to design an efficient AeBS.

Recent Advances in the Modelling and Analysis of Opinion Dynamics on Influence Networks

A fundamental aspect of society is the exchange and discussion of opinions between individuals, occurring in situations as varied as company boardrooms, elementary school classrooms and online social media. After a very brief introduction to the established results of the most fundamental opinion dynamics models, which seek to mathematically capture observed social phenomena, a brief discussion follows on several recent themes pursued by the authors building on the fundamental ideas. In the first theme, we study the way an individual′s self-confidence can develop through contributing to discussions on a sequence of topics, reaching a consensus in each case,where the consensus value to some degree reflects the contribution of that individual to the conclusion. During this process, the individuals in the network and the way they interact can change. The second theme introduces a novel discrete-time model of opinion dynamics to study how discrepancies between an individual′s expressed and private opinions can arise due to stubbornness and a pressure to conform to a social norm. It is also shown that a few extremists can create "pluralistic ignorance", where people believe there is majority support for a position but in fact the position is privately rejected by the majority. Last, we consider a group of individuals discussing a collection of logically related topics. In particular, we identify that for topics whose logical interdependencies take on a cascade structure,disagreement in opinions can occur if individuals have competing and/or heterogeneous views on how the topics are related, i.e., the logical interdependence structure varies between individuals.
